How to cut your own hair straight for more precision, you can cut your hair dry if you want, but I always recommend making it a little bit damp for better control. You want to comb your hair really well before you start and for option number one. You want to tie your hair in a low ponytail, take another elastic and tie it a few inches from the first one repeat the same step with a third elastic and now take your scissors and using your fingers as a guide you're going to cut a straight Line release your hair and, as you can see, this haircut looks a little rounder from the back, but if you bring your hair to the front, it looks straight now. Let'S move on to the second option: you want to part your hair down the middle and bring the two sections together at the front, tie them with a small elastic and using your fingers as a guide. You want to cut a straight line with this haircut. If we bring the hair to the front, it looks straight and if we bring it to the back, it doesn't look as round as in the first option. If you want your hair to look completely straight, when you bring it to the back, you need to take into account that the sections which are further away from your face need to be shorter. So you want to take your hair, bring it to one side like so and cut your hair in a diagonal line instead of a straight line, if you're not 100 %, sure whether you're doing this correctly or not. This is how your hair should look like once you comb it. Let'S do this one more time you want to comb your hair, bring it to one side and using your fingers as a guide you're going to cut your hair in a diagonal line. What this cut is going to do is ensure that the sections at the back are little shorter than the sections at the front. That way, when you bring your hair to the back, both the front and the back sections are going to look the same next up. I'M going to give you some advice on how to cut somebody else's here. First of all, you're going to divide the hair in three sections and you're, going to start working at the back. Layer-By-Layer take your first thin layer and using your fingers as a guide cut. A straight line down the middle now you're going to take another section. Next to that one and cut another straight line, there are two important things you should bear in mind. First of all, your fingers are being used as a guideline. So, to avoid messing up, you need to keep those as close to the person's back as possible. Another thing you have to bear in mind is that your layers should be thin enough, so you can see where the previous layer was cut. This way you can use the first guideline you created to make your cut as sharp as possible. You can do some touch-ups this way and now we are going to move on to the front sections, bring them to the sides right on top of the person's shoulders, and you just need to work on that straight line little by little and remember, to avoid messing Up all you need to do is keep your fingers next to the person's body. Once your haircut is completed, you want to blow-dry your hair and straighten it, and if you see any imperfections, you can touch them up. As you can see, when you bring your hair to the back, it looks straight and when you bring it to the front, it looks a little bit longer on the front. I really hope you enjoyed this video. Angi Webster: I have old kitchen scissors, a spray bottle and a hair tie. Everything tells me this is a great idea.

Charlotte C: Wearing a striped shirt for a guide is lowkey genius though.

christiana: that fact that she was able to keep smiling while chopping off her hair i cut off a centimetre and freaked out lmao

leah: need a haircut. every salon is closed due to ms coronavirus so here i am!

Ξινολάχανο Face: I'm not having a mental breakdown, I'm just poor.

Ali Khan: Hey guys I tried to cut my hair using the second method and it looks gorgeous! I suggest if you want to cut your own hair, try the second method.

Reija N: A tip to get the angles right: wear a v-neck shirt. Angle the fingers to the same direction the shirt neck goes.

Helen Cheadle: Most terrifying thing I’ve done in a long time...trying to grown my hair long, but the ends needed dealing with...thanks to you I’ve managed to neaten my hair, and I feel very proud of myself...thank you for giving us the courage and ideas for cutting our own hair...really appreciated during this lock down! X‍♀️x

inazuma15: I used the second option and it looks pretty good! The scissors I have are pretty dull and cheap, so it was pretty difficult for me to cut a straight line, but overall I'm satisfied. With great shears, my haircuts will be perfect! Below are some things I wanted to point out in case anyone has a bunch of questions, like I did, before taking the risk of doing it. I have very fine, thin, super-straight hair. Before this cut, my hair was a straight cut across in the back. I cut my hair when it was damp and it did not look good. I cut my hair again when it was dry and it looked WAY better. I always part my hair on top to the side. I did that side part like I normally would, but parted the back in the middle. Each cut I cut a tiny bit off, maybe 1/2 an inch each cut, just to get the dead ends off. I have really long hair, so I was able to take about an inch off total without it looking like much of a change.

Alaina: NOT FOR THICK HAIR I REPEAT NOT FOR THICK HAIR

Ata Man: I have zero experience cutting my own hair. I tried the second option. I tied my hair, took a deep breath and made the cut. It didn't look as perfect. It wasn't as easy or fast. However, it gave me a great starting point. I spent around 2 hours making it even and less rounded. Just finished and I am very happy with the results! Thank you very much for this video ☺️

Vanessa Navarro: Wow finally someone who go straight to the point without so much explanation thank you !

KathyL: Thank you! I just did the second option on myself and it came out so nice! It was a little tough for me to use my fingers as a guide though, so I used a styling clip to hold my hair in place and used that as my guide. I was nervous so i only took about an inch off, but be hair is already on the shorter side, so it did make a big difference. Thank you so much for the tips!!!

Ishika -: I survived the 1st wave without ruining my hair but this 2nd wave got me.

Anjali Bhatt: I just had haircut with second method on my own and it went very well Thanks for the tip. It was very useful especially in this Covid19 crisis time when you can't go out to get your hair cut. Kudos to the team❤

imutuber911: I actually did this today and it really worked. I did the second option and it's straight when in front and I still have the same curved shape I had before in the back. Thanks so much!

Janne: This is the DIY hair cutting video I've found. The one I used to follow was well done and was a good method, but it was labor intensive which discouraged me from trimming my hair as often as would have been advisable. I use the second method demonstrated -- pulling both sides of the hair forward and banding it together. For me it's easier than reaching behind my head. Although I only wear my hair in a braid or in a messy bun, I checked out the back with my hair down and am amazed at how crisp and professional it looks. I'm an older gal and not much interested in beauty videos, but I subscribed to this one to support the darling young woman who made it. Also, while I prefer no background music, hers isn't as obnoxious or distracting as some.

Michele MicheleMade: I just cut off the frayed ends of my hair using the second method, and it worked out really well for me. :D My ends are thin so that was helpful. My hair was also mostly wet after washing it, which I find completely necessary to help control it while getting it ready to cut. I should've checked out youtube videos ages ago!

Nehad Nasreldin: I did it it looks perfect thank you so much it was the first time to cut my hair short without ruining it ❤️

Janell Kling: I followed your instructions and they worked perfectly! I'm so happy. I used my conditioner to sleek my hair.. I was so tired of walking out of hair salons that cut too much off. Thank you!

Kajal Saglani: Tried the last method on my mom and it worked perfectly! As For my hair, I did a mixture of 2nd and 3rd method and it looks pretty great!

Hanami63: Did option 2 and it turned out looking great. I had to cut a couple of inches off because it was just way too unmanageable and even if hair dressers were open, I can't afford one anyways. Thankfully I took a cosmetology class in highschool, so I've cut hair before and actually own hair cutting shears, so I knew a bit of what I was doing. I've been cutting my own fringe since elementary school (it was a learning process and I screwed up many times until high school) but never cut my actual hair by myself, so I had to look up a tutorial. This one was very helpful. Thank you.

ChrisXVX L: Did she really just cut her hair 10 times for this video? Damn.

Dzila Marashlian: I tried method 2 and it looks great. I was so scared when i started cutting it but it turned out great considering its my first time doing it.

Rebecca Enn: I went with option 2 and I love it ! Make sure your hair is damp and you part it down the middle even in the back . So happy !:)

clara: Thanks!! It’s really helpful. For those who have thick hair (like me), when you cut it, it won’t be even straight so you might need another person to make it look more straight. My hair turned out great. Thank you!!

Sheng: Thank you so much ! I really needed to cut my ends and the option 2 works perfect ! ❤️

Ceeraye: Shows us how to cut our own hair, gets someone to fix her mess.

Julie Hamilton: Thank you! I watched this video once and cut my own hair. While it’s not as great as a hairdresser, it is presentable. I cut off three inches by sectioning off my hair and doing the the back using the part and pull to the front with the pony. I did the sides using the diagonal close to the length I cut the back. Thank you! I don’t look like cousin it no more!

Nosheen Mirza: Thank you for this. I used the first method but it wasn't straight so then I used the second method to cut it straight. It worked great thank you!

TheDreamland2006: Perfect, thank you soooo much!! Tried the 2. option and it looks like my hair kept its shape. It was rounded before and remained rounded after, just shorter. Very very pleased.

C. Fletcher: I can cut my hair fine but wondered how to cut the back as it is always looked round. You solved my issue and I really appreciate your knowledge. I use to be a hairdresser back in the dark ages so cutting my own hair does not scare me. I just did not know how to deal with that dilemma. Your technique makes so much sense. I am saying, “Duh” to myself with not figuring that out!

MrImagayguy: This is one reason why I'm glad my hair is so curly. It always curls up so there's no need to worry about it being straight across. As long as it's not drastically crooked, no one will notice :D

Lamia G: I have a wevy hair and first method worked perfectly ! Tried it already twice last month and today and the result is great thank you very much

Becca Slick: This video helped me a lot thank you! I was able to trim up my long bob and I thankfully didn’t mess it up.

Xoxo Lexiss: I did the second one where you tie your hair up in the front and it came out so good FYI found this video at 2:00 am and decided I was chopping of my hair lol

Teresa McDonnell: This is the best video. It goes a bit quick for the first two options so had to stop and restart but it totally worked and was incredibly easy. I have waist length hair so I’m nervous of salons as they always cut off too much. Giving me the control through this video got me exactly what I wanted and my hair looks great.

Limehack: I used the second method on my medium thick long bleached hair and it worked great! :) I also used my kitchen scissors lol

lmao ok: watched abt 30 seconds of the video then chopped my hair do recommend rate: 10/10

HR GURL: This is great and in detail but still simple to understanding. Coming from a cosmetologist this is awesome. Great advice and showing of the angles and what it does. Angles are everything in hair cutting

Brendani14: Great tutorial. I did option 3 and it worked great! Thanks !

A M: Video: “Cut your own hair” Also video: Has someone come in to fix what you’ve done.

E M: I just ordered a horizontally striped blouse. I think it will help me to cut straight with the shears. Good trick by the way! ‍♀️ ✂️

Terrica Kleinknecht: I wish I’d found this before I haphazardly cut 4” of my own hair off. Thankfully I had just enough length to straighten out the mess I’d created. Thank you for the video! I will be using this to cut my own hair as it grows out again.

Zoe: Thank you for this video, I refer to it everytime I cut my hair now, and it is really useful and has and will continue to save me alot of time and money. x

SilverBeaver: Just used the 2nd method and I'm really happy with how it looks! Super straight and round at the back.

TheEnergyMagic: My brother cut the back of my hair for me once, so it would be straight. I had on a striped shirt like hers and he followed the stripe - the stripe wasn't perfectly straight across my back - hair was about an inch longer on one side

Megan M: Excellent video and instructions. I also tried the second method and it came out perfect. I don't think I will ever go to a saloon again. Thank you.

M L: Thank you I just tried this and it worked great super easy to do on my long hair :)

Rosie Jean: I stopped going to salons a long time ago and have cut my hair using the second method for years. Works like a charm. If you do have super thick hair it does make it more difficult but just take your time and cut in smaller sections.

Люба Тодорова: I use method 2 to trim my hair and it works perfectly

Melissa Narayani Donelan: After reading some of the comments, I tried #2 and it really, truly worked. Outside of doing a terrible job at trimming my bangs, I've never, ever, cut my own hair. I followed the steps as they were explained and I couldn't be happier with the result. For those of you reading this and for comparison purposes, my hair is down to my shoulder blades, fine, and thick. The only amendment I made was that I used an additional hair tie right under my chin, and then a second one further down, like in the tutorial. I don't know if this will be helpful for anyone else but, for me, the hair tie under the chin just helped in keeping a straight line to trim. Also, I didn't use any fancy scissors, just some little ones I had bought years ago at a craft store. Hope this helps!

Golden Rain: I cut my hair like the second option since years and it always turns out nice. U saved me a lot of money and time as a busy mom so thank u!!

E M: I like the 2nd method a lot, I think I’m going to try it. ;). I already divided my hair on the top of my head in a rectangle shape with the longer sides of the rectangle from back to front of head. Then I wet the hair, combed it flat against my face. Then I cut a straight line with shears, and followed it with toothed shears to smooth the ends. It came out layered in the front only, which is what I wanted. Now I’m going to try the 2nd method here to trim the back ends. Thank you for this video. It not only shows you how to cut your own hair, it also shows you how to cut someone else’s as well. Thanks for sharing!

Elaina Previty: quarantine got me down and my hair was in desperate need of a trim. tried option 2 and it worked way better than expected, actually really happy with the results. never thought I would ever cut my hair but now I can't wait to do it again

Ankita Saxena: You know my favourite part of the video was ? Her brilliance to wear stipped top ❤️

Lourdes baby: Striped T-shirt was a good guide Nice clear tutorial But my hair is twice as thick so found it difficult, only managed the teen tiny ends, think I’ll go for the Rapunzel look from now until end of Lockdown!

Christine de la pena: Thank you! Got to trim my hair properly ❤️

Craft Fusion: I tried option 3 but i didn't cut diagonally i cut straight.. and I actually loved it my hair looks more healthy

hira: just cut my hair using the second method, it worked perfectly, thank you!!

Valerie Fletcher Bako: I followed her instructions and successfully took off around 8 inches of Covid-Shutdown length from my hair. Woohoo! I used my Tim Holtz Non-Stick Titanium Craft Scissors, and yes, they can be used to cut hair. I never tried cutting my own hair before or anyone else's. The cut looks great! Thank you for this fantastic and easy-to-follow video!

Izzie J: I used the second method of making a kind of ponytail in front of your face and it worked perfectly, thank you so much! I couldn't stand how long it had gotten in that whole lockdown situation..

Nina82: Very helpful. I did the second one and turned out great. Thanks!

María C.: i never thought i would need this video due to a global pandemic 4 years after it was posted

TheRogueRaven: GIRL THANK YOU! Helped me out so much, can't go to the salon since we're all stuck in the house!

tendollarwine: The quarantine haircut itch got me! I googled and found this, tried it, and successfully cut 12” off! And it looks AMAZING!!!

Sarah Perry: I 100% couldn't wait any longer to get a trim because my split ends were so bad. That's what not going to a salon for a year does to you, I guess... Thank you so much for this video! I can actually brush my hair now without tearing it out.

T Adams: Wow! BEST YouTube video I've ever seen. Starts right away, clear, easy to understand directions. I'm so impressed. Thank you.

Jessy: I just wanted to cut split ends of my hair and make it look even . I followed step2 and got good results. There was little bit uneven at the back which I was able to even out. It took less than a minute. I did not want to pay 16$ to just have my split ends removed and get even look. It saved money and time . Thanks

Adriana Ramirez: Really worked out for me. Love it, my hair feels way better.

Jennifer Otto: Thank you!!! I did a wolf cut but it didn't take enough off the back. This worked for my curly hair. I just cut it while soaking wet.

Sheri Brown: I’m suffering from the quarantine look!! Thank you so much for this.

Snigdha Garg: Excellent video. Helped me during the currently ongoing covid-19 lockdown. Thanks for posting

Elaine He: bruh I chopped my hair diagonally on the wrong SIDE

Varsha Vasave: Wow, this methods are actually useful. Thanks ❤️

Zenelly: I did the second method and my hair turned out great! And I barely even wet my hair too

Mckaila: Just trimmed my hair and it looks pretty good thanks

LietSayri: Straight to the point and clear instructions. Thank you! (I needed this because of COVID)

Casper Hansen: Okay I'd say the first one didn't end up great, in fact quite horrible. Then I did the second and it looked better, then I did the second again and tried to cut as straight as I could and remembered to keep my head straight (which I forgot the first two times). Keep in mind I only cut little off each time, which I'd recommend as well because in case in goes wrong the first time you're screwed. I can't stress enough to remind you to keep your head straight/keeping your face straight to the mirror as much as you can. This was first time doing it myself and I learned quite a lot from it, so I think next time will be much better. Either way I'm pleased with my result considering it was first time.

Ren :]: my mom refuses to take me to get my hair cut so i've taken it upon myself to watch 20+ tutorials LOL

elizabethoceansky: This works great! I used the second method. Thank you!

Stacy Dobbins: I just cut my hair with the second method. Looks great thanks!

Nicola W: I used the second method, but found there was still too much length (I ilke my hair just on/below the shoulder, I also have a big head), so I then put my head upside down, brushed the hair out and cut more, I then put my hair in a ponytail (how I wear my hair 95% of the time) and tidied it up again at the ends. Note: I have very thin hair. This is life changing, I will never again pay $200 to get my hair cut! Thank you for the vid!

tbearpa73: Method 2 worked great for me. I cut 2 inches off my hair. My hair is really thick so I had to wet it and cut in small sections with very sharp scissors.

M Sade: OMG! Absolutely to the point! Amazing! Thank you tons! I am going to try this at home! Covid has already done too much damage to my hair ...uuurgh!

Jessi RaRaRa: Thank you for this and thank you for including how to cut someone else's hair at the end. Like everyone I'm dealing with the pandemic. I have depression though and my hair is getting bad. So I'm gonna try to cut it myself, but it's nice knowing that if I royally fuck it up I can use the same video to show my husband how to assist me in fixing it.

aswathi: Fyi: the second method works. I have 2a wavy hair of medium thickness. Got rid of my split ends

lostmarbles0520: Omg! I just cut my own hair! I've never done it before, even as a kid. But option 2 worked great for me to trim off the dead ends before I recolor at home. WOW!

Priya Das: I tried this & it turned out to be good. Thank you♥️

malla mounisha: Best video .I done haircut by myself and it was perfect ❤️

Clairity Francis: Thank you so very much! This video was Extremely helpful!

Gabbie Kapaun: I literally just did this because I was bored with quarantine and it turned out so uneven and I was literally balling my eyes out but thank god my mom fixed it

Ivy Gray: I did the second option and it worked well for me. I'm trying to grow my hair so I only wanted to give it a trim. Covid update : I wanted to give some tips to help. 1. I have fine hair. Dont use this tutorial if you have thick hair. 2. The end tutorial is ideal, if you've got someone, anyone, who can cut your hair and see the back, get them to do it, and find a stripy top to help them get it even. 3. If you have a straight fringe/bangs that need cutting - get sellotape, put it on your skin a couple times to remove some of the stickiness. Then line it up with where you want to trim your dry fringe. Make sure it's straight and that you're lining up the sellotape line with where you want to cut. Then cut along, cutting off the sellotape, and the hair. My mum used to do this for me when I had a fringe as a kid cause I was anxious at the hairdressers and it always worked.

Ambreen Mahmood Khan: I followed the third style. Thanks for making a video on it. I have saved thousands of money on my hair.

Jennifer S: Thank you for this. Tried the second method and luv it. Life saver. ;)

MKat: The 2nd method isn't bad for a trim. I have long hair, so I've used this method to cut off split ends. Please make sure that you use the right scissors! Yes, it makes a difference.

Yadami_ Everywhere: I cut my hair and looks amazing now...thank you so much

Tànit: The second one turned out beautiful!!! Thank you

Doshira: Omg my mom used this tutorial to cut my hair and it worked!!!

JEAN: Love this video. Good introductions On doing it yourself or cutting someone else’s hair.
