Paisley’S Jumbo-Twist Braids (2 Methods) | Cute Girls Hairstyles

Today, Paisley (age 9) and I will show you how to create adorable jumbo #ropetwist #braids! To help add color and volume/length, I’ll teach you how to add in synthetic hair to each twist. What hair color should we try on Pais next?

Hairitage product used in this video:

*Hairitage “Strength Training” Leave-in Conditioner Pudding: https://shopstyle.it/l/bcoaD

We pretty much have doing Paisley’s hair down to a science! These braiding sessions can take awhile, so I have all of my Hairitage products and tools ready and Pais stays entertained either on her iPad, or by watching TV! These types of protective styles will last in her hair for several weeks, so even though it takes us 3 hours in one sitting, once it’s done… it’s good to go for a long time!

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1: The night before, wash, condition, and prep the hair by stretching in bands overnight.

Step 2: Removing the bands, begin to section the hair off into sections with a rat tail comb.

Step 3: Gently brush the hair, and run Hairitage Leave in Conditioner Pudding through it.

Step 4: Run Blue Magic down the hair to condition and coat the hair - holds moisture in the hair.

Step 5: Apply gel to the root line to keep the baby fuzzy hairs from popping out on the scalp.

Step 6: Separate the section you’re working on into 2 sections, and lay the synthetic hair in between those 2 sections.

Step 7: Pull the 2 sections of natural hair up and around the synthetic hair, and secure with an elastic.

Step 8: Begin to twist the natural hair in with the synthetic hair, rolling each section to the right, and then twisting together. Use blue magic on the hair as your work your way down to keep everything nice and secure.

Step 9: Remember to stagger the rows so that the boxes aren’t right on top of each other.

Step 10: Heat set! Dip the ends of the hair in super hot water to set.

Step 11: Apply foaming setting lotion.

Step 12: Accessorize! We added cute little ribbons and jewels to accent the look, and take it to the next level!

( cheerful music, ), Hey everyone, I'm Mindy from Cute Girls Hairstyles., And I'm Paisley And she's Paisley she's helping me out today.. We are going to show you how we do a Paisley, protective style. With long beautiful, black and red hair.. She picked out an ombre type of hair to add in., You did. Yeah. Well, she asked for an ombre color and the one that was there was red.. So that's what we're going with. Last time we did blue. So now we're gon na do red twists. We're going to attempt Senegalese medium-sized twists and we're using Kanekalon hair.. So I'm hoping I'm saying all of those words correctly, but that's what we're going with., It's gon na, be a process. Isn'T it Pais Yup a three hour one., But I'm gon na show you all the tricks that I've learned. All of my tips., If you guys haven't already subscribed to the channel, be sure to click the button right here and let's get to it. Ready, Pais Yep.. So, as you guys can see, I've already totally deep washed deep conditioned her hair ( giggling ) last night, and I'm gon na take the bands out and then we're gon na start the parting process. For product I am using today I am using this. Hairitage Kanekalon Hair, you can see. [ Paisley ]. I was right about Hairitage., Yes, we're using Hairitage ( talking over each other ) as the leave-in conditioner pudding.. I am using this hair.. You can see it goes ombre from dark to red. And it is very important pre-stretched.. It'S gon na make your life a million times easier at the ends. If it's pre-stretched like this., It's also anti itch: tangle, free, quick, dry, ultra light and hot water set. Two things I always look for hot water set and pre-stretched literally life. Changing.. Don'T make the mistake, I did when I first started doing hair and use the wrong hair ,'cause. Then it's just way harder.. I bought six packs of this. They're like a dollar 99 each or something, but I don't think I'll use all six. So I'll keep you posted., I'm hoping to get like five twists out of each hair. Band., So we'll see I'll keep you posted as we get going.. Okay. So here's what it looks like. I have the hair laid out on the couch.. I have my little workstation here on my towel that prevents the grease from getting on my couch.. I have Hairitage leave in conditioner pudding., I'm gon na use Blue Magic for the hair, dress kind of., It's just a little adds a little more grease to it. Moisturizes, the hair kind of locks, the moisture in more than anything, acts a little more like an oil., So that's great for when I'm doing protective styles.. I have my rat tail comb to help me part. A little bit of water. In case I need it.. She'S got her little bench to sit on and her Leapster to play with and we're sitting in front of the TV. iPad., So it keeps her distracted or her iPad sorry. And we're ready to go.. I feel like you guys, are getting like the come into my home and actually experience this with me version of this hair tutorial., It's not quite as buttoned up as we normally film, but definitely real life where you can see all the hair and all of the Garbage I just threw on the floor that I'll clean up when I'm done.'Cause - it's like just get it out of the way for now get it out., Okay, guys after I take Paisley's hair out of the bands. This is what it looks like.. So you can see how much straighter it dried just because I had it banded and it's gon na be a lot easier to work with in the twists.. I just pull these out of the way right now. ,'Cause, I'm gon na be parting. This lower level. To begin with., Okay, so I literally just took my rat tail comb and divided the hair like this., And I pretty much went from top of the ear to top of ear for my first row. And then this is ready to start subdividing into sections. The sectioning. I feel like is the hardest part for me., Just making sure these rows are nice and beautiful, and straight takes the most time for sure. Okay, so I have the first three done. You can see., And I'm gon na, show you how to do these on the next row, but I'm gon na just subdivide this row again. I parted on this second part. I went up to her. Crown. Just got a little fuzz from one of the elastics in her hair., But I went from ear all the way across the top to ear, and then I'm gon na divide this section in half.. So she'll end up having like three rows in the back is what it's looking like right, now. And then the front I'll go side to side.. Okay, can you see how I can just really gently brush through her hair without pulling snarls or it making too much of a fuss? That is because we stretched her hair. So you can see how much length I have on that to work with.. Okay, now I'm using Hairitage Leave In Pudding.. I just take a dab of it and I run this through her hair.. Now this leave in conditioner pudding has a little bit of moisture to it.. So as soon as I do, this you'll see her hair kind of start, it'll start curling back up., You watch just cause. It has a little tiny bit of moisture in it, but that's why I do it section by section., Because if I did this one before I needed it, it would probably shrink back up.. Then I'm gon na take some of the Blue Magic and I'm just running it down her hair too., And I told you that this is kind of a conditioning like hair dress, it just kind of coats, the hair.. It has a little more oil in it. So it coats her hair and holds all that moisture in that I just put into it., And especially I do those ends. Now for people with my hair type. You would be thinking like ``, oh my gosh ,''. This would make my hair really greasy.'', But for her hair it just loves it soaks it right up.. It will keep her hair, nice and moisturized and conditioned for the next four weeks. ( clapping ). Okay. Now she has really curly hair right here in the roots. And if I do her hair like this, just like this, I'm gon na get these little fuzzies coming up and popping up out of her hair sooner than I'd like.. So I'm taking just a little bit of gel and right here in the root line. And the gel I use doesn't leave any white flake-age. It just kind of moisturizes her hair again and lays all those little baby edges down nicely.. So this is a little heavier gel than I normally use like on her front pieces.. This is more of a heavy duty gel for longterm hold., So you can see now I have her pieces all ready to go.. So there are two ways to do: this., I'm gon na show you both ways. I'm doing a jumbo twist. So again I told you I'm using a pretty big chunk of hair right here.. I'M gon na divide it into two pieces like this.. Now you can take this piece and roll it roll it roll it., I always roll to the right for some reason. And you can see how that's laying flat against her scalp. Her hair is nice not so tight. It'S bubbling her scalp at all, but nice and taut against her forehead or against her head. I mean., Then I'm gon na take this piece and roll it the same direction. Like this. And then what you do is cross this one over and I kind of roll it again as I cross. And you can see that it basically forms a little rope. Twist.. Okay, so if I kept twisting like this, I'm creating that rope twist., So you can do it like that and it's gon na stay in. But can you see how it's a little bit loose against her head right here and right here? This is my problem with her hair is. This is gon na create more poppage on her little loose ends faster? If I do it this way., So my preference - this is totally just dependent on your hair type and what you prefer., My preference, is to do the rubber band method.. So in that case, I just kind of lay it like this. Lay it down the middle and I pull those two pieces up and around it like this. And then I take an elastic and I secure the elastic around her natural hair. So not the synthetic hair. And again you want it tight, but not so tight that it's bubbling her scalp or anything weird.. So there we go., I give it just a nice gentle little tug to tighten it down., And then you have your two pieces.. You just have to make sure these ends match.. You can slide it as needed, make sure that they match. And you're, always as you're working with synthetic hair. You'Re always gon na have some that falls out.. I just let it fall and we deal with it later when I'm done.. So in this case same thing here I have my two pieces: roll to the right roll to the right like this and cross over.. I stick some of the Blue Magic right here. Just to kind of help every hold everything down. As I roll it keeps the hair, nice and secure., And I try really hard to roll her natural hair. You can see in as far as possible., So it's the synthetic hair, that's on the outside edge and not her natural hair. Right here. I can see that her hair is getting thick, so that's gon na kind of make a little lump.. So I'm just gon na gently brush it a little bit and try to smooth that down so that we have a more natural transition.. You will learn very quickly that, when working with hair types like Paisley when you're styling like we are you're gon na, have a lot of moisture on your hands. And that's just because that's the best thing for their hair and when you're, adding all that in it's Gon na hold their hair, nice and moisturized the whole month.. So we take it all the way down as far as we can. And then we have that twist, all nice and complete with nice, tight, roots., (, clapping ), And then we start over on the next piece.. The last thing I wan na show is just that on the bottom row we had three twists and on the next row up, we have four., So you want ideally the boxes to be off center from each other, so that you don't end up with one whole Section where there's just a part line., So it just gives it a little bit cooler pattern and it's easier on their scalp.. So I'm gon na move up to the next row and keep finishing.. So it's been a couple hours and we finished all of the hair check it. Out. Pais show'em your hair., So it's all good to go and looking beautiful. I'll show you how to heat set it.. Okay. So when I got to the top I told you, I had parted this top row and we did end up having three under here.. Then I did from this side to her ear and you can see there were three there as well.. I did one then two, then three. And then same thing on this side.. So one two and three. - And this is the finished look and now I have already dunked it once but we're gon na dunk it again. So I can show you guys: the heat set.. Okay, so we're taking this.. This is a pitcher full of very hot water. And you just take the ends in and dunk'em. Bring it back a little bit babe. And we you just go down, hold them and then dunk. And then out and they're hot. So we put a towel on her so that it doesn't ... Burn me., Get to her. And then we'll do this side and the opposite side and then dry them off.. We are going to do the set lotion. Foaming, setting lotion right, Mm-hmm., Good job., It's gon na look, beautiful., (, singing ), Okay. To finish off the look just for fun. We added some gold ribbon through here., It's like just braiding thread. And we added some little dreadlock jewels.. This is the thread. Yeah. This is the thread when it's not in. And then I just twisted the thread really super tight on this side. To give her just kind of a little accent., So that's it guys., We finished it.. It took a lot of hours. A day two days and a couple of hours.. Well, that's for wash. To complete the actual twists. We did what Maybe three and a half hours.. Four and a half Three and a half I think. And it's finished.. I think it's four, because we took lots of breaks. High five.. We did take breaks.. Okay, you guys, if you haven't already subscribed to my channel, be sure to do that by clicking the link right here., You can check out our other videos by clicking over there and we'll see you guys next week. Bye, guys., Bye, (, cheerful, music, )

AliyaJ: COME ON WHITE MAMA MAKING IT HAPPEN FOR HER BLACK DAUGHTER!!!!!!!! I'M SOOOOOOO HERE FOR THIS!!!!! THE TWISTS, THE GEL, THE BLUE MAGIC!!!! ALL OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Jasmine and Simone: i love how she does what is accommodating for Paisley’s hair and not try to change her in any way. Love these videos!

ATM: It is so refreshing to see a parent who has a child with curly hair try to learn how to best take care of it rather than flat ironing it every day.

Shane C: Chile, when Mindy put that dab of blue magic grease on the back of her hand while she braided, I was like "I know she was watching some authentic black hair tutorials on YouTube." I'm Black. I grew up with our living room looking just like that with hair everywhere. I also like how Mindy is comfortable/secure enough to keep the comment section on. I know she must get some haters. But, I hope she sees the love and positivity too. Great job. Great mom.

Rachael D.: I love that Mindy takes the time to learn about Paisley's hair that is so loving and supportive! Anything can be learned and that is amazing!

Kendra Moralez: Mindy, I can’t even begin to express my love for you and taking time to learn how to do your black child’s hair the right way and being so comfortable this is amazing thank you!

Brianna: Mindy Mindy Mindy! I love to see a non african american momma taking care of her african american daughters hair. Honeslty Mindy, you are mom of the freaking decade because you never miss a beat with your little one's hair. You're amazing sis!

Reel Ramirez: No one: Literally no one: Mindy: hi I’m- Paisley: hi I’m Paisley

Sunny Lawton: I don’t ever comment but I’m seriously watching and going “wow!!” Just because you’re doing so good, it makes me want to cry. This was my life growing up, from the sitting on the floor, to the mess in the living room from all the hair supplies, to the BLUE MAGIC, to my mama keeping me distracted by a phone or something. I love how you care for your baby’s hair like it’s supposed to be taken care of. All the right techniques. I feel like I’m watching a little cousin getting her hair done haha ❤️❤️❤️

Madison Simon: I love that the McKnights make sure to let Paisley know that her natural hair is beautiful as well ❤️

Aliza Enver: She’s so cute, I love these cute hair tutorials.

Erica P: I love Paisleys hair it’s so pretty!!

Lashunda Anderson: I am SO glad you take the time to embrace her curls and figure out how to protective style it!!!

Sarah-Divine Fetuga: You are such a good mom. Also I like how you changed the gel when you were working with her edges. Just a tip: Most people start their twists with braids to ensure that the twist stays put x

Marissa W: Hi Mindy! You helped me get through a tough moment today. I had to go get a blood test and they were having a hard time finding a vein and one of the things that kept me from crying was thinking about how there would be a new video from you today! Thank you for being a positive light in the world. Love you and your family!

Mariam: Wow! I am shocked. This is beautiful. Also, I loved the hair stretching method you used without heat. I just love how you've learned to care for Paisley's natural hair. Although, I would advise you to cut her dead ends before styling so that it doesn't reach her roots.

Amaris Renae: When Raising a chocolate baby , teaching her to love and care for her crown is soooo important! Great job mama! And innocence braiding hair is very good!

Terri Marie: This just made me so happy. The fact that you are taking your time and learning about her hair texture, not just flat ironing it or having her look busted by the head because you have never dealt with her hair type is something I applaud you for.

Sydney Smith: Paisley is gorgeous! I remember when she was a little baby

Sam I Am G: Yesss blue magic is the go to . I’ve been using it since I was a kid and some of my friends think it’s no longer a good choice due to all the new products but I love it . Great tutorial looks bomb

Sheen Boo: You have blue magic , EZ-braid , and a rat-tail comb , all the essentials , I already know this is going to go well now let me watch lol

MsTy2908: Yesss I love this. I love the fact that you took the time to understand your daughter's hair. It amazes me how some people that dont have afro, kinky textured hair are astonished that we need oils, in our hair, and judge it as "greasy". And I love that you understand the art of protective styles. This will give her so much confidence as she grows. Great job!

shayla: Omg I love the way Mindy took the time to educate herself on Paisley's hair type. As a black girl with 4c hair it's so refreshingggg! Also love the heat set and setting lotion HAHA great video!

Sjaydan01: Her hair always turns out so gorgeous!

Maija Watts: I love how you do African American girls hair ❤️❤️she really have a good mom that takes care of her and her hair

Frankie White: Omg I love these braids! So good to see how you do them in detail

Aquana: You did such a good job. At first I thought you got it professionally done. ❤️

Zoe Mayo: As a black girl who grew up watching you even though I didn’t have a straight hair I love to see you doing curly/kinky hair on this channel.

Liba Mirza: Aww it’s great to have paisley back in another tutorial! She’s growing up so fast! It seemed like she was a lil baby and now she’s all grown up

Yveline: Great job Mindy!! You’ve taken your time to educate yourself on Paisley’s hair type and it just makes me smile. Learning to style a hair type that so different from yours is not easy and it takes patience. Aw man idk, I just appreciate this so much.

Ebony King-McPherson: Hi, I just ❤ how versatile your channel is...thank you Mindy for not being intimidated on doing Paisley's (sweet girl) hair and dropping her off to someone else to do it all the time *FYI: the hair grease (blue magic, or any oil you prefer) can go on the scalp, a little goes a long way (not in clumps/too much oil) just follow along parts. Only use when scalp feels itchy, usually between 2-3days. Btw, for the rubber bands you can put a little hair grease/oil on them so it won't break the hair while in protective style. Keep up the good work!

mslovinglyfe1: Hi Cute Girls! Mindy you did such an amazing job! I appreciate that you do your research on styling and maintaining Paisley’s hair. ❤️

Cavii: Mindy, you’re doing such a good job with Paisley’s hair, good job! Thank you

Sal L.: I never do anything with my hair, but I still watch every one of these hairstyle videos! I love the McKnights!

Jia Kaler: Paisley is so beautiful! :) Bless your whole family!

Plant Perfect: I'm embarrassed, I'm black and I dont even know how to do this. You did such a great job!

Cyn Nu: Thanks for explaining this so clearly. I will try this with my daughter.

Azel Johnson: I just did these same braids but smaller on two of my daughters hair. It took 8 hours for one head. You did a really good job I had to subscribe!!!

Danielle Marable: Thank you for this video! You made this look so doable! I really want to try this style on myself. The gold accents are so cute it really brought the whole look together! Much love

keren shonganie: mindy, you are such a role model! i love how inclusive you are about learning from different hair types.❤️❤️

Joy Mechell: I absolutely love this I’ve been watching since she was a baby and you can tell just how healthy her is thanks to the care you provide it.

Rachel Gunning: Paisley is so beautiful!!! I love all the colours and styles she experiments with she’s turning into quite the stylish lady❤️

Plumcurly: Way to go mom!! Thank you for taking the time to learn and do her natural hair. She will only grow to love and appreciate it more because of your example.

Tammy Gaines: Love, love, love this video!!! I learned how to braid hair when I was seven or eight. My sister's and I would practice on on our dolls. Great job!!!

Angela Fisher: Omg, I LOVE this! I just used the rubber band method to do my twists lol You did amazing!! ❤❤

Starr Walker: Yes ma’am!!!! Great job Mindy! I love that you always keep Paisley’s hair looking beautiful!! You’re gorgeous Paisley!!!

Ale Godoy: Love y’all so much! You guys are so inspiring and amazing!!!

ultimatecouponlady: Great job Mom! Love the way you take care of Paisley's hair in the protective styles! (Only thing I would do differently is not put all that makeup on her; she's beautiful just as she is and that's waaaayyyyyy too much makeup anyway. Please don't give her that false sense that she needs makeup to be beautiful.)

drewbarrymore: Omg! It’s been such a long time I just came apron this video on my recommendations. It’s amazing how she can take care of paisleys beautiful amazing curly natural hair over the years! Love you guys and I hope to see more and more videos in the future❤️

Destany ferrara: I love this momma! I've been watching for years, I also watch the twins mains channel as well! But I love your dedication, and your knowledge on black hair is just so admirable

Alex Marie TV: I love these so much I used to always watch your channel but there would never be any hairstyle or tutorials on my type of textured hair I’m so glad you learning our cultural and giving paisley her culture

Laa The Slaya: How cute is this!!!! I love it. I'm definitely going to attempt this style.

dana janene: I can tell you know all about black hair when you took that "little dab" of product.

Sherese: I also use that blue magic product and I love how you did Paisley's hair!❤

Alexis K: beautiful job! I love how you stretched her hair as well! Beautiful Family! That is love.

KaysieLuvsTheStage: I love your tutorials. I've used your hair tutorials on my kiddo's 3a/3b hair for about 7 years. I myself were braids as a protective style. Pre feathered/ stretched hair is such a time saver. Also, I have found using a thread rack to separate the hair as I install my own box braids/twists is extremely helpful.

Deondra Coleman: I LOVE THIS!!!! When I saw this I said, "Mindy when you doing my hair? You did that better than I do my own". I love how you took the time to research and understand what she needs for her hair. She showed the Blue Magic I showed my husband and he was like, "When you say Mindy coming by or you going to her house? I'll drop you off".

Candicehere: You did amazingggg when I was younger my mum never knew how to deal with my hair I ended up relaxing it at the age of 5 and now I’m 16 STILL trying to get my natural curls back❤️

Lynn J: Well done , well explained!! she is a pro. And thank you for stating that it is not tight, because braids or twists or any protective styles such as this should never be tight.

PandaYT: It turned out so great and beautiful, I love you guys so much! <3

Candyflozz 101: I’ve watched this channel for years and watched paisley grow into the beautiful girl she is ❤️❤️

elisa: Paisley looks absolutely beautiful! I can’t believe how mature she looks!

Nicole B: You did such a great job Mindy! I'm looking forward to see more videos of Paisley's hair!

LivinwithJennifer: Thank you for educating yourself about our hairtype and how to manage it!! I appreciate it

Michael Makeup: I love her so much! She’s getting so big!!! I don’t have this hair type but it’s so interesting to learn!!!

Adaora Kanu: I would recommend using shine and jam for protective styles that you plan to keep for a while. It helps make the twist look nicer since if grease is not used correctly it can clog the pores in her scalp.

Karen Holland: Paisley just ends up with the best hair styles. Wow. Love this so much.

Scorpia Stings: This just melts my heart! Beautiful child! God Bless you Mom! ❤️

B H: I’m African and can’t even braid like that, absolutely amazing,well done .x

grassgrasse: They look so pretty!! Love how sassy and cute Paisley is btw.

Bryn Sansom: If my friend came to school with this hairstyle I swear I would literally die it's so beautiful

Amanda Li: I love you guys and love behind the braids! The hairstyles you do on Paisley are so creative and cute. I’ve been watching y’all for so long and I love your family

Ketsia Supreme: I love how you learned to do her hair and keep her hair healthy

Kennedy Grace: i love this hairstyle!! wow you are so good at these and i love y'alls channel!!

j mag: Beautiful!! The gold string took it up a notch! It was so pretty before, but the gold added such a wow moment!

Kenechi Nnajiofor: Wow the rubber band method is really a life saver! I use this method on my hair as well!! Great job it turned out so pretty!

L Hamilton: Great job Mom! This came out beautifully ❤️ I want to know if I can be next ..lol

Honeybun: You go girl! Great job on her hair. Thank you for caring enough to learn about her hair.

Sabina Khanom: omg wow. when i was 8 years old i remember always coming to this channel to watch how to do hair. thank you for teaching me to do cool hairstyles at my age. this channel is literally apart of my childhood and i’m getting so much nostalgia as i’m watching this videooooo

ThatWunFanGurl: Paisley's hair is gorgeous, it's so perfect!

Amari Johnson: Sis has the blue magic on her hand just going in she doing it so nicely makes me want to get this done on my hair. ❤️❤️❤️

Fanatically Jael: Also! Huge tip , part your part and then add your gel to the part and repart it. That’ll insure that your part is super crisp and that’ll also get those tiny hairs!

Ivan Parker: Chile when I saw the blue magic I knew it was gonna be a great tutorial I grew up using blue magic and seeing that really brings back the memories <3 great job mindy :)

tanya: I love the versatility of hairstyles on natural hair!
