Hello, everybody. I am jared ross, a genie vlogger and welcome back to another professional genealogist reacts on today's video. I will be watching ancestrydna results, black people with red hair by life with dr trish varner. I don't quite know what to expect for this video. Obviously, we're gon na be getting ancestry. Dna results, i'm guessing that it's her daughter who has red hair uh based on the photos that i've seen um in the the thumbnail um. So i think that's gon na be the interest, because i i do know that there are black people that have natural red hair. Now i honestly would not be the person to ask when it comes to. You know why why do black people have red hair um? I mean i could make guesses based on my knowledge of things, but i don't truly know part of why i'm saying that is because i don't honestly know if there are people where they have fully african ancestry, no european, where they do get red hair. I think the obvious thing a lot of people would expect is that someone who's black who has red hair would also have some sort of european ancestry, and that's why they would have the genetic mutation for red hair, but being a redhead myself. I do understand that having red hair is a very complicated thing when it comes to determining it, and i think in my own 23andme results, they said that they didn't think i was going to have red hair. I had like a really low uh. You know what what is it you know less likely to have red hair sort of reading, and you know i'm very obviously a ginger. It'S quite obvious so curious what she's, gon na say, uh throughout this video, whether she's gon na go into the actual science about that, and you know anything like that, like the history or not just the science um, you know of mutations and all that. But more of, like you know, are there people of fully african ancestry who do have red hair? Is that common in certain areas of africa or more common in certain areas? Or is it something that's really more limited to people who have both african ancestry and european ancestry, or to be less specific african ancestry and some sort of like caucasian ancestry? So not not even necessarily european but technically what a lot of people would consider more of like western asian as well. I'M not really going to say much else, but before we do jump into the video, please be sure to give this a thumbs up. It really does help me out also be sure to subscribe and click that bell for notifications on future videos, but with all of that fun stuff said: let's go ahead and watch the video very cute, but we're here to talk about our red-headed stepchild stepchild. I don't know mama's baby daddy's. Ladies, i don't know i might be the milkman, we're in the hospital, because you know i had a c-section. Okay. If you all know you know they cut my belly uh long story. We won't talk about that here but anyway. So i wasn't the first one who saw her. Daddy was the first one who saw her so i'm gon na. Let him tell this story yeah, so here's trish, you know laid out on the table all her insides hanging out everywhere, because c-section you know, i got ta move stuff around. What happened? Really oh yeah, i got beat greg. I got in graphic. Insights are really hanging out, yeah, it's pretty cool um, but anyhow they go cut open and they pull out this lily white baby with red hair. Now let me explain something: oh wow, one time i have to tell this story so one time we were at the gas station, it was summer or spring. It was hot. We live in georgia and anyway, so this lady just comes and our window is down. Kerris is in her car seat, the lady reaches her hand through the car window and rubs our child's head. I can't tell you how many times i have had some old lady come up and just start like touching my hair, like oh, my god, i love the color or something like that. It happens. So often i don't know if this was like a thing back in the day that it was just people were more comfortable with it um pretty much every single time. It'S happened, it's always some old lady. I don't know. I totally i i understand that, because it's so weird when you're like just doing something all sudden like someone, you don't know, just starts walking up like hand out like trying to grab your hair and like it's just like. I don't know it's so weird in this video we're gon na, introduce you to our little redhead and we're gon na. Allow you to hear her story about. You know people coming up to her, how she feels about that etcetera. I want talk about uh. The temper thing, though so, there's a history of redheads on my side of the family, my dad my uncle and then a bunch of other cousins, this child she has red head and you know the. What do you call that the saying is that red-headed people are have tempers yeah? Let'S just say this one here, the the saying in the house is don't mess with the redhead. She has a little temper. It could be because she's, the youngest i don't know. I definitely have a temper, i don't know if it comes off in the videos ever. I doubt it does. But, oh my gosh, you get me driving and people getting in my way or just cutting me off or just driving incorrectly or when people don't use their uh their signals or even worse, when someone starts to slow down and turn and then puts their signal on. In the middle of turning like, what's the point of that, but i just get so seething mad and i think, there's been a few of my friends and some family have like even made the joke that if i uh ever have a dash cam, which i do. I should just upload those videos just because they'd be so funny, just because i just flip out, but i could not put those videos up with my name attached, because i do not say some uh kosher things to to say the least. My mom said you know out of all the grandchildren she has. This was something else all right, so we're going to share our ancestry dna. Like i said, i first took the test about seven years ago and if you know anything about ancestry dna, you know that they let you know that periodically they upgrade or update your result, you could actually say upgrade because in a sense they are, you know the Update is because they have, or they assume to have better data. So, in a sense, it is an upgrade so that um, your results could change, and i my results have changed over the years slightly and but i'm going to share with you my latest results and i'll pop it up on the screen. While we're talking about it. All right, so the very first thing on my list and i went and i clicked on the dna story. How old is this? Okay, the the the results? Look like they're an older version of results, but i see the videos from march 12 2021 so pretty recently to when i'm doing this reaction and the ethnicity estimate. My first highest percentage is cameroon, congo and western bantu peoples, 26, and then maui is my second one. At 18, so that 20, what's 26 plus 18 mathematician 44.. So right now we're 44 african. Nigeria is my third highest country at 18, 44 plus 18.. Is that right, y'all, yeah? Okay, i don't know all right, so that's i love how he just has this look of like yeah come on, keep going whatever all right i'll do this for you for three and then so, but he does look like he's enjoying himself um guess what we jumped To for my fourth highest country, scotland, 12 percent - so i know she's gon na read it out, but i just want to see real quick. We have one percent spain, one percent france uh, one percent, england northwestern europe. So that's three percent and then so 25. So a quarter european that was a bad accent. Wasn'T it horrible, okay anyway, so scotland, at 12, okay, so scotland? And if you don't know, if you're watching this from another country and you're wondering how do black people in america get mixed with scottish ancestry and other things? Well, there's this thing called the slave trade and back in the day, let's just say probably unwillingly, um are most of the time dipping in the slave shacks yeah i mean that's, that's one way to say it. Yes, they mixed in with that ancestry d. I mean that and our african dna all right so number four was scotland at 12. My fifth highest country is ireland at 10 percent. So now what are we at? Okay? So then, my sixth highest country, because i'm just mixed all up in here, is been in. My sixth highest country is benin and togo. Togo yeah, i think it's coco. We really need to learn how to pronounce the countries where we descended from okay, bennett and togo is nine percent yeah. So now i'm just starting to get mixed in all over the place. So then, i have ivory coast in ghana at two percent: senegal, at one percent england and northwestern europe: 1, northern africa, 1, france, 1 and spain 1. So i think that equals something like 75 african and 25 european, which is basically the average from uh. What i understand, in my experience - that's usually what it is um from all the tv shows that i've seen especially finn uh, finding your roots faces of america and both african-american lives, um all of those by henry lewis, gates jr. This is a very, very common thread and, just like they said uh. The main reason for this is because of the slave trade. Most uh, most people in the u.s who descend from those who are enslaved, often also descend from many of the slave masters or overseers. It'S not always the case. There are some cases where um you know the couples were willingly together. Um, you know it, it does happen, but i think that's mostly a rare case thing about history. Is it's much more nuanced than we like to think and even when you kind of have a general idea of a certain time period, not everybody fits into the um, what's pictured of how life was in that time period, you know at the same time, for a Lot of uh people who are african-american trying to identify those ancestors that are european to even get some idea of you know, was it a willing relationship or was it what most of us think and that this was not a willing relationship in any way? But anyway, let's continue anyway, get to the results: man, all right, so, okay, my first one 26, all right: eastern europe and russia: okay, oh 26, eastern europe and russia, so very different reading of european than his wife. So their children are going to have a very big mix of different types of european, along with their african, and one thing i think, may be a possibility with their daughter with red hair, especially because she does seem to have many more european looking features. That being the red hair and the lighter skin, i think it's very possible that she may end up actually having higher percentages of european than her parents, just because of the randomness of recombination. You know her mother was 25. Her father is, let's see 26. 5. 31. 34, so he's about 37 percent, so there is a possibility that their daughter could technically end up being over 40. I don't know if she'd end up being over 50, but we're just talking about possibilities um, and this is just because the randomness of recombination um, but it's also possible that it. It really is just that she just ended up getting genes that really affected. How she looks, but she doesn't necessarily have high amounts of european - both are possible. Um dna is just crazy, like that. That'S right, this uh, supposedly african man, african-american black. However, you wanted to find me in america, his very top highest country, where he received most of his dna from eastern europe and russia, specifically czech republic, slovakia, poland and lithuania region yeah, so one of those in russia. My second one, coming at 22, which is interesting, is also cameroon, congo and western bantu, which was her number one at 20. What six so, thankfully, neither one of us showed up on the list of being related to related we've been married. Almost 11 years we got two biological children. We have a total of six kids between us um yeah now so, even though normal was 26, so cameroon, congo, in western band 2, is 22. followed by 18 nigeria. I think i had the same 18 nigerian and then 6 percent benin and togo and then 5 ivory coast in ghana. Then it's five percent of mali, five percent - ireland. You know that, oh so he has ireland. I had like ten per. I had ten percent in ireland and he has five percent ireland and then four percent baltics, three percent senegal. Who knows anything about the baltics. I tried to research, the baltic states, lithuania, latvia, estonia, baltics. I want to say it's part of europe. It is part of europe - it's not very close to russia, he's right back all right. You know about your people, um three percent, senegal, three percent england and northwestern europe, two percent scotland, one percent wales. So he had two percent scotland and i had 12 percent yep and you have one percent whales, so that comes out to what is it 59 59 african 41 european? So he has oh. I got the numbers wrong before, but looking at him here in america we just label everyone, as he ended up having, i think, about a similar amount, as the hodge twins had in total european ancestry. So his dad looks white. So i'm not really shocked about my dad and my uncle their brothers. They both both same uh skin complexion, both with red hair. They both look white and they both have red hair. So basically cares in a nutshell, yeah, but they'd be really interesting to see his family tree and see if he does know his most recent ancestor of european ancestry or the most recent ancestor. That'S fully european, because if both of his uncles both have a very european complexion and then you know he's getting 41, it's very possible that they have a higher percentage of european, and so it could be that it's a fairly recent ancestor um or there are a Couple of more recent ancestors, and until we actually look at the paper trail, build the family tree and do that that's we're not going to know the story, so we have to do that work to learn the true story, otherwise we're just just hypothesizing all right. Let'S version of continue so when i got his, he tried to argue with me all the way about how he was going to be blacker than me. That'S why he can't dance another thing that it talks about is like when your ancestors came over to america. You know where they landed and stuff. I know that my ancestors, most of my family, lived in missouri and then from they came from like the tennessee area, uh through virginia and different things like that. But his mom is from the bahamas so and of course interesting enough. The ancestry dna detected that so what does it say about the islands yeah so the way that it detects it is it's looking at all of his genetic matches and then looking to see what are the places localities that people list of you know their birth or, Where they're from and when ancestry sees a whole bunch of matches, especially ones where they're shared matches so they're matching him and then the other people doing you know with the same places listed then it'll, say: okay, we can recognize that it seems that there's a connection To the bahamas, and then they can list that, and so that's where you usually get the more specific stuff. So, even though it's technically the admixtures, it's really using the genetic matches to do that, so the more specific the locality is usually it's because of the genetic matches and it's basically them doing the genetic genealogy or the basics of genetic genealogy for you. So you know it's not always trustworthy, though, when you're looking at these, because as i've discussed in previous videos, when you're related to people you're usually only related to them in one way, at least in a recent way, where you're going to actually match through dna um. Except for people that come from endogamous populations, which is a whole different thing, um, but basically, when you are related to someone you're related in one way, but they have all sorts of ancestry where you're not related to them in those ways, and so sometimes the system May pick up on ancestries that seem to be common among matches, but it's just a random sort of thing that a lot of your matches happen to have that ancestry. But you don't actually have that yourself you're connected in another way to all of them. So hopefully that makes sense so it says in the 1640s uh black uh blacks arrived to the bahamas, but i always say that's what they're indian in us. You know they will always claim native american everybody's part native america. I'Ve heard it about it in our ancestry too, but the thing about it if um my family has native american, i didn't inherit any of that dna yeah and it's very possible to do that. So one thing you'll learn in this process is that even siblings can inherit different parts of the dna right. So, let's just say, i'm 75 african and 25 european. My brother could be 50 african, 25 european, 25 native american, possibly yeah. Absolutely it's usually not that crazy of a difference - um, usually siblings, will be it'll be similar, so you know like she had 12 scottish 10 irish. Maybe her brother got, you know 14, scottish 2, irish and then three percent spanish or something or like you know, usually it's not like really different, like she didn't get an even native american and then her brother did. But sometimes that does happen where someone will not inherit any dna and their sibling will do a test and they get like 10 or 12 percent that the other sibling didn't. So she she really is spot on with this right here, probably a little bit exaggerated yeah, but anyway, that's just goes to show that siblings can inherit a different percentage. So but with that said not all of us got native american in us just because we might got a looser hair, curl or whatever that's your white side. That'S the white side. Okay, all right y'all so hope you enjoyed our take on. You know where the red hair hair could have come from hey. I'Ve heard the stories too, that some people have, you know say that some african countries have red hair as well, and i've done some research on that and it's very possible as well that we could have carried a gene from an african country such i believe, there's Um some people in ghana who have or some other countries, but anyway i would have to re - do a refresher on that. But there are some african countries with some red-headed people as well, and we also are descendants from countries that have notably or or famous for red hair, and that is ireland and then some scottish as well so hey. We could have gotten the dna from anywhere. We obviously are our dna. Our results show that um is we carry the trait i carry the trait. Obviously my husband carries a treat, and thus we have a red-headed child and guess what she's not a stepchild and she's not adopted and yeah. She is this man's child all right. Well, that was a pretty good video uh a lot of cuteness with her daughter um. I thought that they had a great interpretation of the dna um. I get the feeling that maybe she had done a little bit of research before actually getting the results, and she i mean she had a really good understanding. She explained a lot of things really well um. I think you know it is a very interesting concept. I was kind of hoping that they were going, that they were doing their daughter's dna and then comparing it to them um, but then, as i think about it now, i don't know if these, if any of the websites actually allow uh children that young to do Their dna testing um, but maybe they do. I don't know people if you know, comment down below i've, never actually tried to get. You know young children to test, because you know i'm always trying to get the older generations to test, because that's what helps in genealogy um. I do know that there is some sort of a follow-up video to this uh. This was uh recommended to me a couple of times by a few different people, and then i started to get a few people recommending the newer video um so i'll have to watch that one. I think someone said that she starts going into her family tree in that one, so that'll be really really interesting, especially if she talks about using genetic matches with the family tree um with the husband's tree, especially with his uh ancestry, in the bahamas. That could be something really interesting to look into, but i think that this would be a really fun tr both of their trees would be very interesting to look into. I wonder if they've had any other family members dna test as well, not necessarily their children. Well, it would be interesting, um, more genealogically, wise it'd, be more interesting for me to see their siblings test or even their parents, great video overall, not really a whole lot to say otherwise. Well, thank you so much for checking out this video. I do hope that you enjoyed, if you did, please be sure to give it a thumbs up. Life with Dr. Trish Varner: Thanks for featuring us. Our younger daughter (the one with the red hair) recently took a My Heritage test. My Heritage is a swab test as opposed to spitting in a tube like some of the other tests. Our daughter didn't want to spit in the tube. Our other daughter (the one with black hair) did take an Ancestry DNA test. We already have a video on her results. As soon as we get our red hair daughter's results back from My Heritage, we will compare both daughters' results.

CoolKem C: My sister has red hair. It has gotten darker the older she gets but it’s still unmistakably red. As an adult people tend to think it’s a dye job. My cousin also has green eyes and we are all Yorubas from Nigeria. No mixing with anything. My neighbours growing up in Lagos 2 of their kids had light skin freckles and vibrant red hair. Also Yorubas. Afticans have the genetic code for every variation of skin and hair colour and hair curl pattern. We’re not surprised at all!

Jessica Peyton: The report literally says, “The red hair variants in this report first appeared in ancient humans 30,000 - 80,000 years ago around the time of early migrations out of Africa” And you think that black ppl with red hair is because they have white ancestry? No sir, it’s the other way around…

Joanna Fitness: I am Nigerian, full fledged. I have eight siblings but my and eldest sister's hairs used to turn bright red in the Northern Nigerian dessert region where we stayed with our grandmother for a year. White people used to walk up to us and touched and pulled at our hair. It used to be really bad that I started biting their fingers. We do not have European blood in us. Red hair in Africans has always been part and parcel of the African diversity and are not as uncommon as one might believe. Therefore, we should not assume because you have a red hair black person (not mixed race person) that they have caucasian ancestry hiding somewhere in their DNA.

Brian T: Can we just take a moment to admire what a charming family they are?

imocchidoro: A tip for young people. Talk with family elders before they are gone for names and stories. Took me almost 15 years to track down who my paternal grandfather was in the old country. Name changes!!! ugh lol. Also it's addictive and fun.

Corletta Madison: I was born with sandy red hair...I hated it when I was younger because to me it always looked dirty, especially after washing it lol. Once I got older I began loving my hair because people would compliment me thinking it was a dye job. Yet, after going natural I noticed my hair started turning dark brown, closer to black. I couldn't get with that it changed my look tremendously. I started actually dying my hair and sunny autumn color. I look like my former self again!

Zeke L: As my Granny says, "They're just reaching back in the family". That's what she said about one of my cousins who was born light-skinned with strawberry-red hair. Her Dad is dark-skinned & her Mom medium brown-skinned,

Kimberly Hampton: I have a friend who is Black, whose family has a whole line of redheads. It's fabulous! They are red-red. Each generation has redheads...its really neat.

whitfix: Yay! Black girl with red hair here :) In my family, I was pretty much the first one. Seeing younger cousins with it is fun and it’s like seeing a version of myself in person. My hair has gotten darker. Eventually I’m planning on coloring it bright red again. I miss it. I enjoy being different

hellaSwankky: *the genetic trait for red hair comes from Africa.* so, yes, there are people in Africa w| 100% African ancestry//DNA who are natural gingers//have naturally red hair w| complexion shades across the spectrum from dark to light. + by people i mean whole villages//areas in which red hear is common//the norm//not rare, unlike everywhere else in the world. + they're freaking gorgeous, just absolutely stunning. admittedly i am absolutely biased — i've had a thing for redheads since day 1. [my first crush was Archie (yes from the comics — i was _obsessed_ ‍♀) + my first human//real life crush was a set of ginger twins in elementary school, Alex + Andrew. Vernon Francois was my wallpaper for yearssss OMG that man. OK let me stop — i'm bordering on fetishizing if i'm not already there. ‍♀my bad.]

Jimmy and Taylor Perry: I actually have an interesting story. I have a brother who is 18 months older than I am. When I was an infant, my mother took us to a doctor's appointment. While there, she was accused of kidnapping my brother and I. The people who accused her thought that I was Latina, and my red-haired, fair skinned brother was white. My mother was understandably traumatized, and it took her a while to heal from this incident. Let's fast forward to February 2021, and I took a DNA test just as a part of proving my Native American ancestry. I was just sick and tired of certain people telling me that I was NOT part Native American due to my complexion, and I wanted to shut them up for good. My great-grandmother was Native American. I KNEW her, and I was aware of her affiliation with the Lumbee Indian tribe. Therefore, it was not just a family rumor. Nevertheless, as a darker skinned individual, I have never been allowed by this society to celebrate this part of my heritage. When I was in elementary school, I wasn't even allowed to wear items that honored my Lumbee ancestry when my school had Native American day. It is hard to describe this pain unless you have lived through it. So, when I scrolled through my DNA results, there was zero surprise about my Native American ancestry. I initially stopped at this result, took a screenshot of the percentage, and then sent "told you so" texts to a few people. Then, I looked and saw areas of Central and South America highlighted on the world map. I was SHOCKED to find out that I am also 14% Mesoamerican and Andean, and I have so far found relatives in Chile and Argentina. The crazy thing is that I had an urge to learn Spanish since kindergarten, and I am bilingual. I am also 20% European, but I already knew this was the case. I just thought that most of my European DNA would be from Germany due to my geneology research, but it is primarily from the Baltic states, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. I am also 5% West Asian. So, when I recieved my results, I immediately called my mom, and I said, "Do you remember when those ladies who accused you of kidnapping one Latina and one white baby? Guess what? I am part Latina! Mom, there's also some West Asian DNA in there as well". I am a biomedical scientist and doctor in training, so I am keenly aware of how phenotype (how you look) cannot be utilized to make hard assumptions about genotype (your genetic makeup). My little one has fair skin and flowing blond and curly hair, and a lot of people have questions about his ethnicity when they see him. I am so glad that genetic genealogy is finally allowing people like me to freely honor every facet of who we are. P.S. My husband was also shocked when he learned that he is almost 50% European. His European ancestry is predominantly English and Irish, so we celebrated our first St Patrick's Day this year. Yes, my red-haired brother ALSO has a temper!

WINTERBIRDS: Ran across this by chance and found it very interesting and watched it through and enjoying comments about different interesting traits people have ,I Love that the Creator made so much variety in his people and all of nature! I think about the Aboriginals of Australia that have blond and red hair too . The couples little girl is adorable and it looks like she is blessed with Loving Parents.

wutdafeezy: This is very interesting. My South Pacific island People’s also have those with red hair. My Samoan people too, have many with red and brown hair and the old belief is that it attracts spirits, so elders would oil the hair of children to darken it for protection. Interestingly, my people also cut our hair for our tribal head dresses. The head dresses are all shades of red and brown. If hair is black then they take it out to the sea and bleach it in the sun to get the desired brownish-reddish color. These are traditions and myths held long before white people made contact.

YazzzitSemonne: I love how these DNA test proves that race is really a social construct

juliblued: Red hair is a recessive genetic trait. Both parents must carry the gene in order for you to have it. Blue eyes and red hair is the most rare combo in the word per one of my Anthro professors. Everyone in class turned and looked at me that day lol. I have a temper too.

Jessica Hicks: My mom, older brother and I all had reddish brown hair as kids. Kind of weird. But I supposed that’s the beauty of genetics. ‍♀️

Helena Williams: Love your channel. I can't wait to do my ancestry dna. One time I was in the library and I picked up a book about cherokee indians and I swear, the people had the same facial features as me. I do know that my grandmother mentioned family surnames such as Wright, Swain, and Boards.

kaddieA: Thank you for your video! Your experience with the “red hair” prediction is exactly why I’ve sworn off of these commercial genetic testing services. They might be great at helping to catch killers, but there predictive algorithms for the impact of generational genetics and sources seem flawed.

Lemondrop海外姉貴: My people have genetics for red hair. My aunt has it. It is common in certain areas in Africa. Before Europeans came to my family's part of Africa, we never called ourselves "black/brown", we differentiated ourselves by whether we had black hair or red hair. We would say "red haired person or black haired person" in our native language.

megan calicut: When he started talking about his temper on the road, he had me looking at my hair like damn am I a redhead too

EverTt: It's lovely to see her happy with her hair! I guess it would have been nice to look into the African results a bit more? There was a study which showed that Africans have the most heterozygous DNA and Europeans have the most homozygous DNA. Therefore genetic mutations which would be rare in Africans would be more prevalent in Europeans as their genes contain less diversity. The meaning being that Africans can have the same mutations but it would be less likely to show up because of their less related DNA. I only got interested in this as I was born with freckles, lighter hair (it has thankfully darkened) and lighter skin. 3 cousins were also born with lighter complexions and hair and growing up in the UK and France some unpleasant things were said about our complexions and my freckles. Unpleasant as we are 100% African but were assumed to be Caribbean and "mixed". The other part is- we are technically mixed but with some of the African countries this lady and her husband mentioned- Ghana, Nigeria (Yoruba ), Congo and Gabon. It would be interesting to look more into that side. The genetic diversity of Europeans is a bit simplistic and seems not as complex as African DNA. It seems as though it would be a little bit more interesting to try and look into that a bit more than the oft repeated and easily explained side.

Nini Prom: The little girl is so cute . This is interesting I should get my Ancestry test done. I have red headed family members and we are West Africans .

Rachael McClure: The more you know. Homeboy can relate to people you don’t know touching your hair and feeling like that’s the move.

Jemma James: Black skin with red hair looks gorgeous and she’s such a cutie!

Christal Intentions: I’ve always been fascinated with red heads. My nephew is a full blown ginger. His eyebrows, eyelashes, hair, even his skin color is a bronze reddish color. Not brown but bright orange red! Both parents are black and not mixed. I was there when he was born and the doctor looked at all of us and asked where did he come from and if his father was white.

K C: Happy to read so many positive comments on red hair. Thanks to all of you for being so kind

Bychance37: When I was young I had sandy hair that was on the reddish side. My brother was sandy but more blondish, especially in the summer time. We have quite a bit of European DNA so I am pretty sure that's were it comes from.

LadyKane7: My dad had red hair when he was growing up. My youngest son had a red streak in the front of his hair. It changed around age 8. This is super cool!

Ceelle2: By the way...I love your sensitivity in discussing these issues. Your words are respectful and spot on.

Sarah Jane Vintique: This is interesting. I have a few gingers in my family and they have green and blue eyes. My brother who passed away was a ginger as well. We are a combination of African American, Native American and European.

Blake Meadows: Omg! She is too CUTE ❤️ My husband is full Japanese & I am a ginger. I recently did a DNA test too & 100% British Isles, mostly British. We have two kids. My oldest has more European features than my youngest who definitely takes after dad (Japanese). Both our kids have a bit of ginger, my firstborn more than my youngest. It's interesting how the mutation manifests and behaves. I remember when I was told "Oh, didn't you know?" "Redheads are going to be extinct!", but perhaps not? Well, I hope not cuz, she's just so cute ❤️

Fadina Natalie: “Those who were enslaved “ instead of “slaves”. I caught that, and appreciate the distinction

Gail Becker: Listening to their DNA breakdown, it is very clear that they both have recessive genes for red hair (European). When two people have the same recessive genes, those genes become dominant and pass on to the child.

Siobhan Air: I think every black person knows a black person with red hair love this

Karen Tucker: I have a friend that has a nephew that is black with red hair. We both wondered if there was some irish/Scottish heritage or not. I love learning different things, especially when it comes ancestry and stuff like that.

a p: Hmm, just looked at my revised Ancestry test, and I have Scottish, Welsh, and Irish ancestry. No wonder my hair turns red in the summer!

Cinthia Lozada: I love red heads. That feature is so eye catching and beautiful to me.

Cynthia Richardson: This is so interesting. My husband and I took 2 DNA test. Ancestry and CRI Genetics test. The CRI test was very interesting. According to the test results my husband and I are more European than African. I'm 21 percent German. My husband 25 percent Italian. That was the recent part of the test but the advance we are more African and many other nations. Recent percentage for me is 47 percent European. 40 percent African. My husband is 49 percent European and 43 percent African.

MuriKakari: You definitely hinted at your temper during Relative Race, when you were in such sympathy with the guy from Team Black. Also, if the 'middle of action' turn signal drives you that mad, maybe let someone else drive if you need to go through Ohio. That is definitely our state's driving sin.

m.m.h.g Don’t Stop Shining: People with red hair looks beautiful! It’s like a color hair that everyone can wear looking great!

Starr Nelson: Thanks my daughter has red hair also and it was shocking to us and also wondering how this was helpful

Phoenix.: He comes across super genuine. Great video, very informative.

Dillyn Armani: My friend has red hair and I always wondered where he got it from. He’s also very fair skinned w/lots of freckles. He kind of looks like a cute Howdy Doody lol

Miguelito S: I really like your non biased comments. Very informative!

Mimi'sFashionLounge: When I lived in Nigeria, I went to school with a girl who was Albino, she has brown skin, light brown freckles and long beautiful red hair. Having red hair does not always have to be a European trait. Also as I grew up I noticed that my hair colour was a dark reddish brown colour, which I embraced but now dye it blue black as I have got older.

Ronald G. Levi Jr.: Really interesting topic. Thanks for creating this - the first-hand comments it elicited are insightful!

Alyssa Dice Flipper: My husband is a "ginger" and I am 100% Japanese. Our kids came out with dark reddish brown hair! Like deep auburn.

The Montessori Tribe: Oh my gosh. This sounds a lot like my family's story. I am very literally about as pale as you can be. I have red hair, blue eyes, and freckles. About 95% of my ancestry is from Ireland. But my son's father, is, quite literally, about as black as you can be. He is extremely dark. (Editing photos of the two of us is absolute hell lol.) Anyways, when our son was born, he had a little bit of hair, but I could easily brush it straight. And his skin was very pale. It was the craziest thing. We had been together for half of a decade. In a committed, monogamous relationship. And anyone that knew either of us, knew that cheating, on either side, would have absolutely never happened. But still, people ran their mouths and said they didn't think our son was his for at least the first two years of his life. Fast forward to now, when he's five, and he looks EXACTLY like his father. Same body. Same butt. Same arms. Same stomach and back. Same legs. Same ears. Same toes. Same dimples. And temperament and personality... EXACTLY THE SAME! He couldn't deny this boy if his life depended on it lol. But, people are rude. And dumb. ‍♀️ It is what it is...

Labeaud Labs formerly Labeaud Productions: I’m really glad you said it’s not always the case because my whole side on my dads side is from Louisiana. They intermarried constantly. 95% of what I see is willing people because Louisiana was NOT following American laws about intermarriage.

Zaimah Beloved: Thanks for sharing this! I love it. I hope to have it completed myself.

Bertha Sherman: Yes we do! On my Mother's side there are 11 children 4 have brick red hair. Out of the 4, my uncle had 8+children and the redheads kept coming. Beautiful red head people with freckles. Awesome!

Kim Jones: As a 7th generation black Nova Scotian I didn't realize this was even an oddity as I have several black cousins and friends with varying degrees of red hair

Lynette Bacote: I love Gingers. My grandfather had red hair and gray eyes and it didn’t pass to many in my family.

Nancy Hinds: I always loved red hair. My hubby, daughter, and son all have it. My hubby's dad and sister had it. My mom had bottle honey blonde and I have red highlights when I'm in the son!!! Our grandson has it, but granddaughter from a different dad has dark blonde like me.

regina broughton: I'm smiling my heart ❤ is both happy and sad seeing all the info and love here in this video, and seeing your beautiful baby. our family suffered a great loss in August our Red haired angel 7yr. old was killed in a drive by in chicago..the Gene was dominant in my dad. All four of my siblings are Red heads.. I'm 55+ and Cinnamon also..

Vanessa Sibiya: I'm going to try this ancestry thing. I'm African and I know my family tree. If I see anything weird imma tell you all!

Mary Scaggs Dane: My whole family is red-heads - for generations. One of my nephews has a great response to the "where did you get that red hair" question. With an absolutely straight face he tells them, "I eat a lot of crustaceans." I love that kid!

immo B: I appreciate you way in moving thru this... I honestly didn't know what to expect. But I appreciate your flow... Thank you.

kingsmina ya know: Lol this happened to my daughter and son in love .... My daughter had a c section and and didn't see her baby til the next day ... everyone was shocked by Sunny's red hair . But weeeee love it . And yes she has a fierce temper at age 2and a half

Ambishes Saxton: You should react to that video of the identical triplets taking DNA tests and getting different results. I would really like your opinion on that.

violetgypsie: From what I understand, the red head gene needs to come from both sides (both parents) to have a chance to be expressed in any of the children. I am a ginger and my sister is not. I have red head genes on both sides.

patricia thomas: Oh my gosh, her daughter is cuteness overload! I love hearing her do math with her 'magic' brain fueled by her red hair.

A T: I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to check out her next video, but she chats with her husband’s first cousin about the family history and the mystery grandfather and they discuss looking at DNA matches and building a family tree to try and find out more information. Not only are these two women articulate and well informed - and so it would be a great reaction video - but I think that could be a great collaboration if you could help them.

S Joseph: My hair used to turn red during the summer when I was a kid. It stopped when I was a tween. I haven’t sent my DNA kit in yet but I know that trait probably came from my English, Welsh and or French/Maltese ancestry.

PreferAndroid: Great review. I've read that in the south in particular, both black and white southerners have the highest percentage of cross mixing between the two races.

Lady Lisa Romance: A natural ginger here and I can't tell you how many times I've had my hair rubbed! Lol

Julilla: This was really fun and their daughter is adorable!

Steakismeat: Happened to me when I got a buzz cut in Colorado. My sisters were feeling my hair cause buzz cuts feel cool and then this old lady comes up and starts feeling my hair for a second before going back to her seat

Mary Stettner: My mum was a flaming redhead when she was younger and she passed in 2017. I have extremely noticeable red highlights and I'm a cashier so I often chat with my redheaded customers about the temperament thing. I also have mildly severe Cerebral palsy (CP) and work in my electric wheelchair. I'm 37 years old and I've spent my entire life with older people either wanting to lay hands on me or telling me the CP is due to some sin my parents made. Mum's redheaded temper came out in full force when that happened when I was younger let me tell you...

Chriscynthia Phillips: I was born with red hair. My Aunt informed me my mother tried to dye it as a newborn. My Aunt was always asking me why I was dying my hair when people were literally paying for my hair color.

Suzanne Lacy: I'm an old Anglo/Irish red headed grandma and have to hold my hand up to having a quick temper ( especially when provoked by idiots when I'm driving ) or being accused of something I haven't done . That always lets my inner beast out of the bag , even as a child ! Were you bullied as a child ? I was until I was 13yrs old and other children got a shock .

Julie A: My grandmothers cousin (Yoruba, both from Nigeria) had red hair. It’s not common but it happens without European ancestry (their family don’t have any returnee or European admixture, their lineage is 100% African). I never got to meet him as he mainly lived in Nigeria and passed before I was born but my mother remembers his visits to London fondly. I also knew a dude as a teenager who had red hair but he was half Nigerian half Jamaican so he may have had European ancestry. Really cool video!

peepla7: "that's why he can't dance!" Hahaha that cracked me up!

Nicole Tambasco: I’m a red headed Italian mom from NY . My daughter used to tell her friends “it’s okay my mom is Italian and she’s from NY” I raised her in the South

Marie Alexandria: What a beautiful family ! Their little one is a cutie pie ❤

Stephany Andrews: I just found your channel. Interesting, as my half and step siblings who are from Haitiian descent, have red in their hair. I got them 23andme and they're mostly African with some Eupoean. We are guessing their ancestors, who were enslaved, were R***d by their enslavers. Still more to find out but this may be the most obvious.

Ceelle2: I am mixed race with an African American father and European American mother. My sisters are twins and one was born with lighter auburn hair and blue eyes for a while. Mom had auburn hair and blue eyes. We thought the reddish tinge of hair some of us have was from our mom. Well...our elder cousin just shared our father's father...our grandfather...the Black one....had red hair. It shocked us for some reason but it may explain our next generation (our kids) reddish hair too.

Appalachian Crochet Designs: In the 80's I had women in Mexico chasing me around a village outside of Oaxaca with scissors trying to cut locks of my hair. Not sure why they wanted to cut my hair but my aunt had to explain to the ladies, "No, you cannot cut my niece's red hair!"

Ukuu: That little girl is so beautiful and sweet may her spirit shine forever. ❤️

Raymonda Moody: When I was a kid I asked my dad why the called him red. He told me because he had bright red hair as a kid but it got dark as he got older and he kept his hair cut so you can’t really tell it’s red till it’s growing out. He even told me a story about my grandma. My dad said After he was born they say she was crying because he had dark hair when he came but almost overnight it became bright red. After the story I realize I was also a redhead because I was nickname little red.

Baranaca Mercado: I’m a natural black red head and in my case I’m just beautifully made by God❤️

Lisa F.: Hey, my oldest daughter has red hair and a temper!!!! Funny story this woman came over and puts her hand on my 2wk old baby head, and said why did you dye her hair? I told her she was born with red hair. She looked at me then my daughter said you did that to her hair. She had a couple that day i'm sure

Alex P: Wow I truly respect you after you made that statement about your experience with strangers touching your hair

MindYours1977: I’m black with red hair and freckles ☺️ I love it!

Crystal yana: AFRICANS ARE AMONG THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE……MY MOM IS FROM PURTO RICO!!! AND MY FATHER IS A BLACK MAN!!! AND I JUST FEEL LIKE I LIVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!! MY FATHER IS FROM ALBANY GEORGIA!! AND IM VERY MUCH IN CONTACT WITH MY FAMILY FROM MY FATHERS SIDE….I LOVE THEM DEARLY AND I GET THE SAME LOVE FROM THEM!! ❤️

ICUP: LMAO I just had to say something about the c-section and guts part Same situation my son's father almost passed out

mdeborah827: @18:46 My Mom was from The Bahamas too. There's a lit of Scottish, Irish and English ancestry. When I lived there and visited there we could not pass out town in Nassau and bypass the old Scottish Shop without the owner showing us our Scottish ancestors plaids, etc. This dude knew everyone's history. Each of the Bahama Islands is like its own genetic island too! He should also know that all the original Natives were either killed or traded away by the time enslaved Africans arrived to The Bahamas.

Angela H.: I recently traced my family tree to the 1700's. I found that my 6x great-grandfather was Scotish, moved to Guyana, married a Arawak tribe princess named Minda. They had a plantation there in Guyana, on the Demerara River, they had slaves. They had 3 or 4 daughters, one of which is my 5x great grandmother.

nobody: I'm black and my hair is naturally brownish red. Love my hair will never dye it It's part of who I am ‍♀️

Frankie Alika: I am Nigerian both parents were. My younger sister had red hair, back in Lagos Nigeria when we go out people used to be curious and ask her if she has mutations or albino gene. She used to be embarrassed and started dying her hair black. Funny part is if the dye wears off the red hair pops. We used to laugh about it.

Melanie Rhodes: Yes children can be tested! I've got 10 kits I manage from ages 10- 87 years of age in my family.

Vanessa Holder: I love this. Black gingers are a beautiful anomaly. This makes me want to expose my natural hair color instead of hiding it under hairpieces.

C.L. Brown: New subscriber I usually watch for a while but I love your personality. Instantly within 5 minutes I feel like I know you and am sitting in your living room talking with you. I am a Beautiful woman of Black descent but I get the sense that you are a genuine person and I would love to delve into your channel. May God Bless you

Fukai Kokoro: Genetics are so interesting. We are all connected in some way. That’s what hate is dumb. We are all one.

radicallyBLindian: I’m working on a book about this!! I would love to talk to you!

Hathor Hathor: I am Black with dark skin and I had red hair (some blond in there too) as a child. My sister who is lighter also had red hair. A few people said rude things to my mom since they thought she was dying our hair :).

Kathryn Hall: Please keep in mind , you have to do your research beyond your DNA testing . Such as going to , the court house and doing research on your families , in your city , county and parish .

Jared Rogers: It's very prevalent in my family , they said it's form my grandad, one of my brothers almost denied his son and daughter but then he found out our heritage
