In this video, I wanted to share a traditional red hair oil that will greatly help both treat premature greying of the hair and also promote hair growth. This oil has a stunning red color and has only 3 ingredients. The main ingredient for this hair oil is ratanjot. It is a root of a plant whose botanical name is Alkanna Tinctoria. It is called Akanet Root in English and Vembalampattai in Tamil.
We can get it easily in all herb shops in India or you can also order it online. This root is reddish black in color and crumbles very easily. It is mainly used as a colorant and here in India, it is used to give a deep red color to the famous North Indian dish called Rogan Josh. It is also widely used in home remedies.
Ratanjot has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties making it one of the best ingredients to use for hair and skin care. Ratanjot is soluble only in oil not in water. This red hair oil treats all scalp problems including scalp inflammation, hair fall, dandruff and premature graying of the hair. We usually make this oil during hot summer months. Here in Tamilnadu, we get plenty of sunlight now so I thought I'd make this oil. If you are living in a place where you don't have plenty of sunlight, you can make this oil using double boiler method too.
INDIAN RED HAIR GROWTH OIL RECIPE:
To make the oil, take 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of slightly crumbled ratanjot in a bowl. Add in 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil to it. Now add in 1/2 cup of virgin coconut oil too. Now keep this bowl under hot sunlight for a day or two. Ratanjot will slowly start releasing its color and essence into the oil. Once the oil has turned red, strain and pour into a glass bottle and store. You can also make this oil using double boiler method.
To heat using double boiler, place the bowl containing the oil over a bowl of gently simmering water till the oil changes color. This oil is truly a miracle oil and will greatly help promote fast hair growth and arrest hair fall immediately. You can use this oil as a daily application hair oil or you can use it as a pre shampoo treatment too. Both olive oil and coconut oil also will help condition the hair and promote fast hair growth. If you're suffering from hair fall or premature greying of the hair, try to use this oil regularly weekly twice or thrice.

This is due to the anti bacterial properties and antioxidant properties of ratanjot. We traditionally make this hair oil with unrefined coconut oil but I like to include extra virgin olive oil in the recipe too. Use 1 to 1.5 teaspoon of ratanjot for a cup of oil like mentioned....
