Hey, ladies!

This is just a short update about my gray hair transition. I can't believe I'm at the 9-month mark now!

I'm often asked what products I use on my hair. For the most part, I use Joico Blue Shampoo once a week (to help remove the brassiness from my fading dye). The other day that I shampoo, I use Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo to help fade my dye. I follow each of these shampoos up with Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator, as both of the shampoos can be drying.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Katie! I live in Los Angeles, where I ditched the dye in 2018 after many years of dithering. Shortly after starting my transition, I founded KatieGoesPlatinum.com to help other women joyfully & confidently ditch the dye and rock their natural gray hair at every stage and at any age.

Please note that all of my videos are for entertainment purposes only. I share my own opinions, my personal experiences, and other information to help women with their gray hair. I hope you find it useful - if you do, please like & subscribe.

Hi this is Katie from the Katie goes platinum blog for women who are either transitioning to gray hair. Just thinking about it or already great today is my nine-month anniversary and, as you may know, if you're already following me, I did to go gray back in April. It is now late November, my last I was around February 22nd 2018 and I just got so sick of it, the time and the money and the chemicals and all that. So you can read all about that on my blog, but I just wanted to show you the progress so far here we go. This is nine months cold, turkey doing absolutely nothing except letting my Silver's grow in. I have done nothing except for getting an occasional trim, and I have put blue shampoo on my hair, occasionally to try to get rid of the orange tones that occur with brunette die that fades, but other than that I haven't done any processing. A lot of people do highlights and lowlights and they're happy with that, but that, from what I understand, involve some bleaching and my hair doesn't take well the bleach, as I discovered to my horror in the 1980s, when I tried bleaching my hair and it turned orange. So now it's turning orange anyway, but at least it's only half orange see and it's not damaged. I'Ve got this beautiful silver hair coming in. It is salt and pepper, but mainly salt, pardon that noise. It'S my knotty pug over there and back to the hair. This is about nine months. Progress. Most people's hair doesn't grow this fast in case you're wondering I guess it's a genetic thing am I leave it? Our hair grows very quickly, so right now it's got to here and I'm assuming it will take me almost two years to be done. We had to take a little break to get our naughty pug back anyway, so this is nine months. It is growing nicely and I'm happy with the color and the progress, especially I'm happy with how shiny it is. That was something I did not expect in the past month. Nothing much has changed, except I am getting stopped on the street now by people. I don't know mainly, ladies who, like the color, they think I'm dyeing it this way and when I tell them about my blog and how I'm going gray on purpose, they're excited and nobody has been rude. So that's always nice. I have gotten a lot of people online, even people who are also silver sisters, asking me why I don't just cut it, but, as I've said before, I would be traumatized personally to go from long, dark hair to short gray, hair overnight. I don't look good in gray hair. I wouldn't feel like myself. I don't want to do any of the processes. I don't mind. If anybody else does the processes or cuts their hair, but for me the cold-turkey gray grow out is the way I'm going to go I'll only be trimming my hair as needed, and I like seeing it grow out. I think it's fun. It'S like having a science experiment growing out of my head. The orange craziness doesn't bother me in fact it's kind of my way of going through the world and just feeling self-confident. If I can walk through the world with crazy hair like this, I can. I can do anything so that's still kind of the way I feel I don't think that'll be changing. So that is my nine-month update. Everything else is going great. I'Ve got my little friend here. I'Ve got one son about to finish his Eagle Scout project, the other ones doing great, and I hope all of you are well as well. If you are interested in going gray or you want to ask me, any questions feel free to follow. My blog and my Instagram at Katie goes platinum. I also am an admin on Silver Revolution on Facebook. So if you are going gray and you need support, it's really a great place to meet other ladies going through the same thing, and we all have a lot of fun over there and give each other tips and tricks. If you have a little gray dog like I do, then you have a little companion who you can go gray with and it's fun. So I hope you subscribe to my videos I'll be doing more updates soon. I'Ve also had companies asking me to do product reviews and I'm going to be doing that soon, because if you are older, like I am I'm 51, some of the makeup and things that you've been using for years, don't seem to work as well, and there are Some things that happen with your skin as you get older, that maybe you weren't expecting at least I wasn't so I'll - be reviewing products and giving some tips and tricks for. Ladies, like me, anyway, hope you're well have a great weekend, and I will see you again soon. Don'T forget to subscribe. If you don't want to miss any of my videos.

Lightning Lass: Fabulous growth. Your silvers are gorgeous!!!! I can’t wait to see your full transition :)

LiveLoveHula: I LOVE that you’re enjoying the grow out! I saw one of your earlier posts and the line of demarcation was sooo strong and you thought it looked great and interesting. Enjoying the ride. I ❤️ U Katie You’ve given me a different perspective. One that will see me through the grow out with ENJOYMENT!

Diane Drummond: I’m 7 months dye free. Your hair is beautiful.

Karen Behymer: Nice transition! Mine is bright auburn red henna-dyed ends with newly sprouting WHITE roots. Sad, but going cold turkey. (Was a natural very light blonde before starting to color) Scarves, hats and beanies will be my constant companions for quite a while. Wish me luck. Love your sweet little Pug!

Kitty Mama: You look very pretty and your hair looks so shiny . The makeup that you’re wearing is so flattering too . I’m doing the transition the same way myself. I chopped my hair to do it . I kinda wish that I had kept it at your length. But oh well my hair grows fast and guys younger than me still flirt with me . All my coworkers give me support. I’m surprised because I work in a spa and salon environment. Anyway thx for sharing your inspirational journey. It’s fun seeing the change reveal its self.

Kimberly S.: Yes, I'm dealing with that now, especially frizz around my hairline. I would like for it to be smoother hopefully when my gray fills around my hairline it's not as frizzy.

Kimberly S.: I agree going cold turkey is the best. I have decided to do the same 4 months ago. It's funny because when I decided to go gray, my hair has been growing so fast, it ridiculous. Your hair is beautiful and thanks for encouragement.

Brenda Campbell: I've just started growing my get out about 3 months ago. My natural color is brunette. I just got so tired of dying my hair every 3 weeks, and the chemicals that can't be good for you. I'm not fighting nature anymore and I'm excited to go natural and turn a new chapter in life.

Artica: Your gray color is already so flattering on you. It's going to be gorgeous full on Gray / silver.

Jonie Peck: Nice video Katie! It's so fun to see your personality and voice on video. I hope one day we can meet face to face. Thanks for all the inspiration and nice plug for Silver Revolution Facebook support page xo

Andrea Lawson: I am right there with you regarding cutting hair short. I do not look good with short hair so I am going cold turkey also. Its fun to see how it grows in! I’m only 3 months in but am so excited to be free of dye!!

SherBear H.: LOVE it!!

Europa 17: You have a lovely shade of gray. Eight months in, I don't mind the orange at all with my layered bob. It doesn't look that bad with the gray.

Maria Rivera: That's right that's how you do it your way.everyone's different we must respect one another and let people do as they wish when it comes to personal decicions it's Personal. Before you know the process will be done and over with.

Anne Brunner: Hi. I quit coloring my hair in November of 2018. Can't wait till it's over. Thanks for the video.

Samantha M.: Looks great :)

Sue Silva: Love your attitude, Karie ♥

Mike Schwarz: It look wonderful ☺ hugs Ellen

Denise Doray: The silver looks so healthy

Kellikim H: I think it looks good!! =D

Pepita Underthesun: You are looking lovely. Have you tried any updos? I reckon some 'princess platted crown' (don't know the name of it) would look gorgeous on you. For me, I couldn't face cold turkey and they did bleach and then a blend dye, know it is orangey medium brown with the root, my sides are very white, salt and pepprr at the top. I am waiting till January for highlights and low lights and hopefully that'll give it a more uniform look I can have for a while. My hair also grows fast but I bought some biotin tablets to try and give it a boost, I'm an impacient person...only that I forget to take them most days! I can't wait to see more vids! x

nelida kiss: Your hair look good love your little dog so cute

Pepita Underthesun: Anybody with very white sides and 50/50 black & white at the top? Not sure if highlight/lowlights (somehow) or maybe just let it go grombre. At the moment I've got about and inch and a half of natural and the rest is a brassy light/medium brown. Any ideas/pics/links will be most welcome. x

nelida kiss: Looks good

nelida kiss: Cute little dog
