Gray, hair: eventually we all get gray hair some get a little some get a lot, but there's a few things you need to do to make sure you're, maintaining your gray hair. So it looks healthy and super vibrant, stay tuned and I'll. Tell you how to look a little less drab with gray hair. Before I go into talking about the things you need to do to make sure your gray hair looks its best. Let'S talk a little bit about why your hair starts to turn gray, you in your hair follicles have something that produces melanin. It'S also the same stuff that your skin produces color. Eventually, as you age, your body just stops producing those cells, and it just can't hold on to color anymore. So then you start turning gray. This will all depend on your genetics. Stress does affect kind of prematurely going gray kind of damage to hair. Follicles can also make it go prematurely gray, so I just wanted to kind of touch base of really. Why and kind of when that happens, if you have gray hair currently, you will notice that the texture might be a little different, and that is because that melanin has gone out of your hair care. You may notice your hair is a little bit more coarse. It'S a little rougher, it's not nearly as shiny as it once was when it had color in it, or it might be just a little bit more fly away. Some people will think that their hair feels soft a little bit softer than when they had color on their hair, but it's just kind of fuzzier. I have a few clients that call their hair. It just feels like cat hair, which is really hard when you're wanting to just embrace the gray, because the texture does change a little bit when it loses those kind of tones to the hair. Your hair is a little bit more sensitive to say the Sun or the outside environment, which is why you will see some people when they have gray hair. Their hair starts looking a little more like yellow or they have warmer tones to it, and that is because it's just a lot more sensitive to the sun rays, if they're around smoke or if, if any heat gets put on it, that can start Shifting the hair And honestly, almost turning it kind of a yellow tint. So let's talk about what we need to do to avoid having that yellow tinge to gray hair, and by doing that, I want to show you on this paper towel. This was a two layer paper towel. I did Rip a layer off of it, but we're gon na do kind of a little experiment, I'm going to take a very hot flat iron and we're just gon na rest. This on this paper, towel we're gon na put it on one two, three, okay, so you can see it has a tiny bit of crease, not really any color to it whatsoever, but after repeated use of those hot tools and going over the same section A few Times you are going to notice that this paper towel is going to get a little tip changed. It'S gon na get a little birds, you're, going to start noticing kind of a brown spot on this paper. Towel so same as when you are doing Hot Tools, whether that's your curling iron, your flat iron, honestly, even a blow dryer over the same spot. Over and over and over again is going to turn the hair brown or kind of have an orange or yellow tint to it. So if you've ever noticed kind of older, ladies, that have kind of just a really almost it looks like their hair is burnt. It'S because of repeated use of your flat iron or your curling iron, or a blow dryer, so you'll notice you'll have to go over it a few times, but this mimics styling your hair every single day, you're not going to notice it right away. Whenever you first start doing it, but the longer you use hot tools or the more often you're using Hot Tools on your hair, you will start noticing kind of brown tints on your hair. So how do we avoid this? You have to use heat protectant or thermal protectant on your hair, so you're not damaging your hair and that could even just be from blow drying. So when people do not use, you can use hair serums that have a heat protectant in it. You can use the thermal protecting sprays, they have aerosol, they have a wet spray that you can use, but you need to spray that on your hair before you are using your flat iron, your curling iron, your blow dryer on your hair. So you are not burning your hair; it also does help with the Sun, so sometimes environmental, whether that's smoking, the sun pollutants in the air that can also change and burn your hair or change kind of the yellow tinges in your hair on gray hair. So you can see it's starting to change. Colors right in here it's looking a little bit more yellow a little bit more Brown and, like I said overusing of your hot tools, will do this. If you do not have a heat protectant on your actual hair, you can see right where that curling iron kept going or that flat iron kept going right up over the top. It has a slight kind of brown tint to it and it's not nearly as bright white as the sections right here on the hair, so you will definitely start noticing Brown on your hair. If you don't use the heat protectant. So what happens? If you didn't know that would happen to your hair, and now you find this video and your hair is already looking yellow. The gray hair is already kind of this yellow tinge. That'S when purple shampoo comes into place, but I'm gon na warn you hold on a second. If you use too much purple, you might tincture gray, hair or the white hair purple. All of us see those cute old. Ladies little ladies walking around with blue or purple hair that is from over using purple or blue shampoo, so you want to be super super careful of not overusing it. I recommend any of my clients who have gray, hair or even blonde hair to only use purple. Shampoo, maybe once a week depends on how much yellow tint you have to it or orange tinge. You have to your hair. Sometimes you may only have to use it maybe every other week and I'm going to show you using some purple shampoo to see what it can do to this kind of yellow hair. We'Re going to do it on this very corner of this extension weft, and this is the purple shampoo I'm going to use. This is joyco blonde life and you have to leave it on for it to work. So some people are super nervous about leaving this on, but if you have yellow in your hair or warmth in your hair at all, you will be safe, so we're gon na put it on this foil and we are just gon na squeeze it on. I am going to take a tint brush so that way we can kind of spread it around. So it's not not gon na be uneven. Okay. This is what she is looking like and I'm gon na foil her up we're gon na leave it on. It says one to three minutes, and that is just to be safe. Just in case it's not super yellow. You don't want to leave it on too long we're gon na. Let it sit there for a little bit. While we continue to talk tons of different purple shampoos, you also can use a purple conditioner. If you wanted to all depends on your hair type. If you have any questions on which one you should use for your hair, please do not hesitate to ask in the little comment box down below. I love trying to help you guys out. If you have any questions whatsoever and while we're waiting now is a perfect time to hit that red subscribe button, if you haven't done so yet it really helps build my channel and pushes these videos out to more people, and I really appreciate all the love. So now, let's talk about purple shampoo purple shampoo can be super super drying. So you want to be extra careful if you're, using purple shampoo on your gray hair, because, like I told you before, it does lose a little bit of shine and moisture when your hair turns gray so make sure after you use purple shampoo, you are putting a Conditioner on your hair and only use it maybe once a week or twice a week if you're not feeling super super orange or yellow since we're talking also about conditioners another thing: you need to make sure you're doing to maintain your gray. So it's super. Looking super healthy and Shining is a really good conditioner. I love olaflex. You guys know I love olaplex. I do have a video. If you want to watch about this olaplex moisture mask it's their four in one. You can click the link up here to watch that video, but this is a great one to add, moisture shine but still keep body in your hair. Sometimes gray, hair can be a little more limp, so it's a great one to use. This is another one that you can use, maybe once a week to add just moisture back into your hair. You can also just use a normal conditioner. You guys know I love joyco. This is their k-pak. This you leave on for roughly about a minute, and it's just going to make sure you keep your hair. Looking super soft, shiny and honestly not fly away, because gray hair can get a little bit fly away. I will also suggest if you have gray hair and you don't color it at all, or you don't put any color on it and you feel like it doesn't have enough body. You may want to do just a shine treatment. Shine treatment is a demi-permanent. It'S just a clear gloss that you can put over the hair. It has zero color to it whatsoever, so it just really is going to be a glaze on top of your hair. I have also done a video on that you can click the link up there to see how to actually do that on your hair, but it's a super great way to add shine back into gray hair. Let'S go rinse. This purple shampoo out of this hair extension that was super yellow and, let's see what it did I'll be right back, while I'm rinsing that out, if you haven't done so yet, please hit the thumbs up while I'm rinsing. I really appreciate you guys showing me that you love these videos that I am putting out for you. Don'T worry, I'm scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing I'll, be back there. She is look at how much cooler that is, I didn't take it all the way up to the top of this extension weft. So that way, you can kind of see see how more like white it's looking down here. But when you look up close, I have a lot of yellow undertones and I can kind of see this is about roughly where I stopped with the shampoo, and so you can see how I'm more yellow and then I gradually get cooler. Now, let's hold these next to each other, so this side I did nothing to - let's just throw it over my shoulder, so you can see how much more yellow we are down here and how more like white. This side looks - and that was just with purple shampoo, really I left it on maybe four, maybe five minutes by the time I actually rinsed it out, but you can just see a huge difference of how yellow we look on this side and how white we really Kind of look on this left side so do not sleep on marble shampoo, all my gray-haired gals. It helps a ton with maintaining that super bright white hair. Okay, recap, heat protectant, purple, shampoo, really good conditioner and maybe even a glossing treatment to help keep those Grays. Looking super vibrant, moisturized and soft, you don't have to hate your hair. If you have gray hair, doesn't matter how old you are, you could be 20. 40. 60. 80. Doesn'T matter Embrace that gray and use these tips to really help keep your gray hair looking fabulous. I hope you guys enjoyed this video thanks for stopping by at The Hair, Lounge and we'll see you guys all next time, bye-bye foreign

thereallisabain: I’m so lucky I get to have you as my hair goddess! With your help the transition to my natural silver/grey/white has been relatively painless (except for those times I use the flat iron). Thank you!

Sharon Goodier: This video you made spoke to me since I just started the process of letting my previously highlighted hair with blonde and lowlights of brown to grow out. The blonde areas of my hair were getting dry straw like and seemed to always turn brassy by the time I went for my next highlight. I’ve been using “Not Your Mother’s” Long and Strong shampoo and pureology hydrate for conditioner. I’m just now showing my roots which are a salt/pepper mix of dark brown/black and gray. Would you recommend I switch yet? Thank you for your excellent videos that are very well done and entertaining as well. By the way I used to work with your mother Rose in the 80’s and absolutely loved working with her and was a good friend when I lived out west.

Theresa Shay: First off I wanna say how much I LOVE watching your videos! I even go back and watch them again sometimes! The video that you made about using the clear gloss, I've watched it a few times lol, but I can't seem to fine the paul mitchell gloss ANYWHERE! I finally used the keisten ess gloss, but im not sure if it's as good as Paul mitchell. SO ANYWAYYYY, that's not even what I was gonna talk to you about, (I tend to go all over the place when I talk lol). My doctor took me off birth control pills I guess maybe about a year ago, and without taking those hormones, I went straight into menopause (yay for me...) my hair has COMPLETELY changed, not in a completely bad way but, it was very flat, and had very little, if any wave pattern. Well now, it's got lots of wave! I really don't have to do much to it after I wash it, besides let it air dry but with the texture change it feels really dry to me, and it can look frizzy, it's hard to get it to look smooth now! My stylist says that it feels healthy, but I just hate the rough feel of it now but yet it's still pretty soft!! I use olaplex, and Paul mitchell super skinny, but it still can look a tad frizzy. I'm wondering if my hair might have become protein sensitive! If I try to talk to my stylist about it, she never really says a whole lot on it, so I don't wanna keep nagging her, so I drop it. I know I'm getting some gray hair now, and I've heard that gray hair needs protein, but im scared to use shampoos with more than one protein in them, especially keratin! Please help me to know what I need to do! I feel like I'm walking around with someone else's hair on my head!!! Lol

Debbie Herbert: I have a question, Angela. I have a few yellow streaks in my white hair near my face. I hate that purple shampoo makes the yellow look silverish. Can I highlight the yellow strands to platinum? thanks! (Yes, my avatar needs updating lol)
