Sports story is out uh uh rest in P, Chocobo GP. That'S that's cute! We'Re talking about our favorite last of the 10 dogs memories of the year uh, but first Jeff Jeff Jeff, Jeff, Jeff Jeff. What'S your problem? What'S wrong, nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong, I think everything's great, I think everything's gone exactly according to plan nothing's wrong at all yeah. I'M uh I'm doing pretty good too I uh I I hung out with us, and I went to a party that you invited me to in uh yeah in a different city, and I was like I'll drive there. This would be a good time and then I got there and I started drinking I'm like you know. If we had Clippers here, I would just do the whole cut my hair now and the host Dave was like. Oh, I've got Clippers and he comes back with the shittiest Clippers. They were so bad. They were like not for hair, not for like actual hair yeah there's this, like actual like, like Dollar General scissors, yeah and then, like the smallest trimmer. You have ever seen in your life, so uh. Of course I said: yeah, that's fine, let's go for it and uh. We went out in the garage and you uh had the honor to uh cut off my air when you began cutting what were you thinking uh? This is weird well, this [ __ ], so we went in the garage to do it and there were already a bunch of people, um partaking in certain substances. I did this because I said Metroid was gon na come the Metroid Prime remaster was going to happen. This year and if it didn't, I would cut my hair. So yes, but just to recap, we went to the Ohio Garage hot box with all these people who had just met Jeff many have which, for some reason, thought Jeff was from Vegas yeah. I was Vegas Jeff the whole night. Some people were going. Ah, it's Vegas Jeff, the biggest yeah, so Vegas chips. There they're, like yeah, we're [ __ ], we're gon na cut Jeff's hair they're all like why? Why they're all very confused so uh? I I just uh, so I just started whacking well so before I started doing it. Uh uh Dave the uh, the host uh one uh cousin was like you know, I'm a barber like I have. I was not privy to this conversation and I was like no. I have to do it like no clicks, oh you're kind of bothering me actually. Can you stop that? I guess I'd start whacking it off uh with the scissors is kind of wherever I can uh. That trimmer did not work very well, so just kind of hacking. It then eventually Jeff learned about the actual Barber who was there, especially after the the Clippers the battery ran out on them. So it's like they're just getting stuck in my hair and like yeah. I can hear them like sputtering and I'm like this is a nightmare. Uh most of my hair is cut off, but I'm sure I look like an absolute mess and the barber at a certain point was just like. I can't take it anymore. If someone goes and gets my stuff, I will do it and I'm like well. Yes, of course, we're doing this like and then I found out and get the stuff yeah she did. I found out, you told him not to say anything or was like you didn't want his help, but I'm like oh, my God, it could have killed you well. I thought it had to be me. You know nobody wants to see some Rando cutting your hair, you're right, you're right. You have to think about the content Jeff now granted after we got some good shots of me, cutting your hair off. It'S like okay! Now, the professional okay, I actually do it so, let's see a chip. Let'S see, let's see the handy work between. Yes, that's what we got here, because, honestly, I was surprised that it actually looks pretty good you. Somebody said you look like you look like Mick Foley and you look very much like that. Pacific era of Mick Foley yeah. He cut his hair. That first time, oh yeah, that's very true, but uh! Yes, yes, yes, but you have all your teeth. Unlike him, though, that's right, my hair, still almost kind of connects to my eyebrows there with that uh proceeding hairline you just have that really like pronounced, like I don't know like Edge thing, I do not have that yeah. Obviously I had a girlfriend's mom once say that I had the same hairline as Joe Piscopo and that always stuck with me, I'm like what does that mean yeah, look at that weird hairline, so much feel weird losing that much hair. Having that much less yeah, you know what it didn't feel as weird as I thought, but now that I'm like rubbing my head on the back of this chair. That does feel weird. So, yes, the answer is yes. This is weird um, it's kind of like uh. I had long hair for a very, very long time uh. I had not cut it. This short and since I worked at the Kroger Warehouse, which was long before I was even like writing about games kind of at all um and that's so more than a decade. Basically so yeah, this feels uh very strange, especially when it does like oh, like bump, against something uh, but most the time. I I you know, and overall I'm surprised how much I cut it off. I'M like! Oh, no, I still just look like Jeff yeah. I thought it would be like this weird thing like: oh I'm, not gon na, even recognize you that's what your headphones on. Like that yeah I mean it. Basically just looks like how you look when you tie your hair yeah. I put my hair up yeah. It looks pretty much the same yeah my uh, I I did get home late last night, so everyone was in bed. So this morning I woke up went upstairs and uh my wife saw and she she was kind of saying I shouldn't cut it and she didn't want me to so she's been giving me grief all day but she's coming around and then uh. My kids, uh Addie, was just like all right, that's fine enough about hell, yeah Emmy saw it and she uh. I was like no, it was kind of what she said. She said no and I'm like she said you need to get it back and then uh. She made a frowny face and the frowny face. She does the one where she like it's the biggest round and she's like trying not to cry at the same time, and then she did start crying and say go away. I want you to go away now. She'S, like almost completely over it, she's already used to it. So it was kind of traumatizing for a moment, but other kids. They cry about everything, yeah, exactly exactly that's all right it was it was. I thought it was very lucky. There was a barber there so because, if it wasn't, it was going to look way worse than this yeah yeah. It'S gon na look terrible yeah, so yeah you're lucky so it'll work better yeah, you get. You know your hair's thick. It'S gon na grow back. Just fine, it's gon na be a fun process that we'll get to document it yeah when it's like, because it's when it's short, this is fine. When it's long, it's fine, some of the in-between stages, I'm gon na look real dumb. So I can't wait for that. There will be a lot of hats on this podcast uh all right. Well, now that we've gone through all that whole thing Jeff, we only have a couple new stories. We would have just said the direct was coming in September Mike. We could have just said that we could have just said that was coming September right and then we had to [ __ ] up. In fact you know [ __ ] around and find out. You really did that back back. That back nine of uh 2022 is interesting for us there. Absolutely you know you get through it. It was a bit there where I felt like. I could never show my face in this industry right now. It'S like! Yes, that's always how it feels like and it's worse. Most people are just like that's fine that was just a joke or whatever yeah, we've all moved on yeah, but uh uh speaking of moving on uh. No, I'm that's not a good stressation, but hey Sports story's out yeah. I didn't think it was gon na happen, but uh that actually happens once they started doing that. Indie thing I was like this is probably gon na be the last one because they would have announced the delay if it wasn't going to be part of that. I thought I felt like, but that was like two days into that. I'M like that realization came to me so yeah that was uh. It was exciting that it did happen, though I still haven't really touched it. I was going to play it on stream and I got distracted and busy. So I think I might do it tonight. A little bit actually might play some tonight on stream uh, but I you know I've heard mixed things. A lot of people saying that it feels like, even though it's been it took forever. It still feels in some ways kind of rushed out. I'M like huh. I got ta see what that what they mean by that really um, but I you know golf story was always this weird sort of outlier where uh it was this indie game that launched pretty close to the beginning of the switch, and it was the you know, A sports RPG, just like Mario Golf, was on Game Boy, Color and Game Boy Advance, and so it's like, I always like, had this really strong home territory feeling on the on a Nintendo system, and so it did very very very well like wait like abnormally well For for a game of that type, and so well that the developers just never put it anywhere else, they just released it on the switch. And now this game comes down, it's right there on the switch, and now it's like well, things have changed a little bit. There are a lot more games available on the switch. Are people gon na pay the same amount of attention now? I think obviously there's fans of golf story who who were going to always pay attention, but I think a golf story's got that benefit of even people who might not have cared about. These were just like hearing the buzz and we're just buying anything. They possibly could. That'S coming out of the switch I mean I bought Neo Turf Masters on my switch back then, because I was just like hey a new game right I'll play this old Neo Geo game on my switch, and I just have not true reading my switch in that Same way anymore, so I just wonder if this game's missed its window a little bit or even if it hasn't like is, is it going to live up to that same magic just based on quality, and I don't know I think critically it never will. I think it's going to do okay, sales, wise just because there are so many people who did play sports. I mean or a golf Story I mean I bought it impossibly. Oh, this came out would not have to buy it and you're kind of thinking. Like I mean, I don't really want to play this right now to get to and now hearing that, maybe it's a bit buggy, I'm gon na, probably just wait anyways, it's weird because, like this and River City, girls too, where these two indie games that, like or Smaller games that, like oh they're, coming out this year, are they actually coming out this year and it both they both did, but maybe in rough states to the points like well, you know you guys didn't actually have to come out this year. You know it would have been okay. If you needed to wait a little bit yeah, it didn't feel necessary there at the end there it didn't feel like uh yeah. Well, I mean I'm talking to somebody fans they made it feel that way, but not really yeah. I guess I can always everyone's like, oh Sports, you know a lot of people like I'm so excited for sports story, and oh does it come out this year? Oh, you know if everyone's freaking out about it GameStop, you haven't heard about it, but you know that stuff always passes so fast again. Elder ring was a game that people were Furious about that we hadn't heard about it in a while and did that end up. Mattering, no eventually the game comes out and everyone's real happy. You know if you're like a Microsoft and then it turns out, you haven't released the game in, like you know, sure, yeah a year and a half, then it's a problem for most other people. You can still get away with delaying your stuff yeah. That'S fine, I'll I'll check it out. I'M still excited about this game uh. I was enjoying the a little bit of soccer story, a very similar game that came out that I played um. I I'll play sports story and probably and probably be pretty happy with it, I'm still guessing uh but I'll find out next time next time. I stream, because it'll be the game. Enix has uh already planning to ditch Chocobo GP, it's a racing game for the switch. This is just nine months after release, and that means uh. It'S the end of large scale updates for it. Essentially so uh uh, I don't know uh. You know I people ask me: well, what's your most disappointing game of the year and I can't ever remember this would be the answer. This was a game. I was really looking forward to. Oh really, I didn't know that yeah uh, then I played and it was awful all right. I do remember that I remember not being happy with it and then it's sort of just like fluttered by in that moment, and I never really thought about it again right. I completely forgot about, I mean the it was so bizarre how short the tracks were in a point. You know like in a cart racer with items and stuff. It'S like uh. Things need to be longer just to kind of even out luck and whatnot right. It'S just like track if it takes like a minute to do a race like you get hit by one item, while you're done uh. It also just had a really aggressive monetization for a premium price game, uh so yeah. It seemed like a lot of people. Weren'T really happy with it. Anyways uh probably did not do what screens was hoping, so support is ending for it not a giant surprise. I mean especially considering who this is the Square Enix again with another one of these right: yeah yeah, no, exactly uh bands, four spoken's happening soon, huh yeah um. I want to play that demo uh. I should like, because I want to like see for myself who oh okay, so I mean I I have heard some people be like I enjoy it, but I've also heard people be like this seems uh. I don't know like it's missing something so uh. I want to go like kind of see for myself and build up some uh some expectations. That way, but I mean overall Square Enix is gon na. Have those big games Hit or Miss we'll see what the big games, but a lot of these smaller ones, have just been so weird and completely missing the mark and like missing the mark in a really hard way, in a way that a lot of smaller games Come along and they just don't find an audience, and that seems like okay, yeah, sometimes Games come out and they don't find Their audience Square. Enix games just feel like they're. Smaller games somehow still create these big explosions, where they just find ways to crash spectacularly. It is incredible how many like big flops, they're able to just sort of survive, yeah upgraded, there's some repercussions like having to sell your Western Studios, but it's man I mean it does basically feel like that Final Fantasy 14 has kept, that company afloat and, like maybe We would be in this bizarre world where, like a Square, Enix would have to go bankrupt or sell itself, but because I have Final Fantasy 14 money. Uh things are okay enough. They could kind of chug. Along I mean they probably would have sold any half the economy didn't go kind of wacky there in the last couple years, so I think I'm sure they were in conversation. I'M sure that the count like the talks were happening. How close they were no idea. Zero idea um, but I think that Square Enix thought they were unexperienced thought they were serious enough to Warrant selling off the Western Studios to streamline themselves for acquisition and then, when the acquisition didn't happen, it's like well, that's weird! Well, it wasn't too weird. If you looked at the macroeconomic situation - but you know I'm always looking at the macro account it's honestly one, it was pretty annoying about about you, people that get a little tired of it. Uh, hey Nick Turbo's, right actually by the way, for God almost forgot. This usually Naco was officially indicted. Now, yes, turns out, he spent about 900 000 on insider trading, or what have you um? So I mean uh, it was it's beginning to look like Yuji. Naka might actually go to jail. Jeff yeah, I mean you know he's in Japan, so people always point out, so even if he doesn't go to jail. Just these indictments. These uh being arrested is enough to pretty much ruin his career uh in in Japan, um [, __, ] man, that's [, __, ], up that his career wasn't already ruined yeah, that's fair uh. He did put out roll 2046, which is like a weird game. He made in unity after ballon Wonder World. He made that by himself pretty much and that's like one of the few games. I still have on my on my phone um that game's not a crime, but you know it does feel like the kind of thing you make in a prison Workshop cry: it's not a crime, but it does feel like something that you made in a prison work Program um, it is uh. Uh continues to be funny and strange and uncomfortable a little bit because it's like man, this guy real [, __, ] up or [ __ ] up real bad. I guess he is just legit. Gon na go to jail. Almost a million dollar to the inside of trading, probably at that point, I'm like oh yeah that does feel like a big crime actually does feel like defrauding the public so more than I would have thought. He hadn't told me how much money do you think Yuji Naka was investing in insider trading. I'D be like you know, five five digits right, yeah! Well, no wonder he got caught, though right like that's the stupid thing to do like there's, probably a ton of insider trading happening all the time. A lot of it goes unnoticed because people probably don't like oh we're, not gon na - do almost a million dollars in it. Obviously, that's gon na raise red flags. I bet uh nine hundred thousand dollars By Yuji Naka uh raised a very big red flag game. There'S a Sonic creator that are one of the Sonic creators uh almost a billionaire. I guess I mean you'd - have to assume he's a Millionaire right if he has a 900 000 to spend on that sort of thing. Yeah yeah. I ask you all the time like just how rich is like somebody like a Yuji, Naka or uh. You know like uh like a Sakurai right. I always wonder these things, like you know like what's video consumers Network like we don't really know yeah, I don't know how rich you get to be because you created a famous video game, character, yep, I'm no idea, but enough to do this big of an insider Trading yeah. My guess is that after they do this DLC for three, there will be some kind of remaster remake of Xenoblade Chronicles X that they will work on before going to like their next brand. Somewhere Mike could get my hair. It was a very a very funny sentence to write to somebody I was like I don't really want to, but I also can't just leave [ __ ]. I guess I got ta. Take it it's still. My car, like I don't want to bring it in there. Oh excellent, excellent uh, uh Jeff. I only played one third of near automata grub. This is my first question on the Discord ever. Oh, thank you Dan. How much have either of you immersed yourself in Zelda, lore, slash times, timeline theories, Etc. I'M a real pervert when it comes to this stuff. I think I'm subscribed to at least three two three YouTube channels that are mostly devoted to it and the breath of the wild has surpassed Wind Waker as my favorite zone of all time, based solely on the sheer amount of World building. Slash subtle, lore nods implications in the game's World. Tears of the kingdom is my most anticipated game of 2023, if only because of the amount of content that will be generated around it. I used to enjoy that stuff Jeff and then, when, like the official one came out, I read that and got into it uh once when breath of the wild came out, it was so weird like they spent all that time, officially a step officially establishing a timeline And then, like the next game after that uh or like this, the you know two games after that breath of the wild was the most just actually but the timeline again game ever uh. So it's like: well, I mean okay, it's hard to because I obviously it's not like. They always had this timeline in mind. They kind of had to reverse engineer some of it and it was. It was a little goofy. It was one thing to have this split without great time, be like well, here's the Adult Link and the you know child like, but then they're like, oh and then there's the link fails timeline I'm like well. That has nothing to do with like the two different time errors now you're just talking about possibilities. So how is that a separate timeline? Necessarily uh? Okay, whatever so I you know, I find it kind of interesting, but also recognize it's pretty dumb yeah. I'Ve never really spent much time looking into it, because it's like uh that stuff is always good as set dressing when I'm playing the game. But I don't need to think about it too much because I know they didn't think about it too much. It'S not to say that you can't have interesting things to say about it. I just mean I probably won't have anything interesting to say about it. So I'll avoid it. I mean I like when they do I kind of like when there is a little bit of a timeline I do like when they sort of yeah, get a little cute with it like things like that, that guy, who teaches you some sword, fighting moves and Twilight Princess actually being like the Zelda from Ocarina of Time, yeah I mean, or you know, all the hero, all the uh, the the the you know. The big one is like all the people that you go to collect are the names of the towns in Zelda 2. Right is that what it is stuff like that yeah like I liked when there are these connections and uh, sometimes even like those connections more than when it is like just straight up like oh, this is the direct sequel to Wind, Waker uh. Although Grand and you know League Between Worlds being like a direct sequel to the past, so it's really good uh. So I don't know it's all a bit of a mess. Be about me naughty no question this week, but I am very excited for the new year with not only new games but starting my first full-time job, eight months after finishing University. I want to know what are you two nintendoc's favorite gaming moments or achievements of the Year doesn't have to be a Nintendo game. It could be anything old or new. Perhaps the achievement I'm most proud of this year is what is resetting one of my all-time favorite games on Steam. Cooks serve delicious three. I don't know if you've heard this, I became a top 100 neon white player in the world this year. Cool I'm moving on from that um. It doesn't have to be this year. I don't think I achieved much this year because you stole my thunder neon white, so uh completely destroyed all my confidence and I've been trying to recover ever since that alone was a pretty big achievement of mine. Just yeah yeah destroying your self-confidence. I was pretty proud of that uh Haas says: hey yo dogs. I was very pleased to see Sports Story released right before Christmas, but it got me wondering if this timing is a help or a hindrance, not sure the house of Indies event got much notice with casuals and I honestly Jeff I didn't really. I didn't really understand what that was. I know that it was much of a thing so yeah um, I don't know if the house or House of casuals house thing. I don't know if that uh was always going to be the thing, but I think the timing probably is pretty beneficial to a digital game, because you come out two days before Christmas and then you are probably still one of the front page games on many of The tabs on the eShop the day that people open up their switch on Christmas, so they are going to get they're going to get games with their switch people, get get a new Switch. You get games with it, but one of the next things you might do is well we're not going to the store today it is Christmas day, so we are going to open it up, go online, let's go in the eShop and see what's on there. Oh look: this Sports story is number one on featured and number one or number two on the most uh most bought game right now, and that helps it so, especially for a digital, only game, that's pretty huge uh and then Mr Boris says happy last: an attend Dogs episode 2022 at the beginning of the year, both of you guys had Nintendo New Year resolutions that I'm sure you remember. Oh no. This is gon na be bad. Oh no Jeff! This is off Mike's supposed to play Golden Sun and Jeff wants to play all three games in the mother Series. So what I would have done my resolution for 2023, you both kept your Nintendo New Year resolution right uh. I think I I also independently promised the play. Uh uh Earth is bad at some point this year, yeah look, it's yeah turns out very hard to find time to play random old jrpgs these days. I I will make this my resolution again. Someone remind me that I said that so I'll play. Oh wait! Let me just at least one of the mother games. How about that? Why don't you just say mother's three or Earthbound, I'm gon na do Earthbound and then maybe mother, three with someday when mother three actually does come out. Do you think they're gon na call it Earthbound two over here? I bet at this point. They just call it. Mother, three, I don't see, I don't know because like when they brought over mother one, they didn't just call it mother, they called it Earthbound. So what well? Okay I mean it was like 10 years ago, when they first did this guy right or something yeah yeah. I don't know it's tough, it's tough to say it might be. It might be mother, colon, Earthbound too, or something like that - oh about it was like Earthbound to Mother, yeah, yeah sure like Resident Evil did that right, a nice out story, yeah yeah, uh velocity Prime, says happy almost New Year's Eve to the dogs with Glass Onion. Now, up on Netflix, I must ask if you were Tess of creating a crossover Game featuring though featuring The Wonderful World of Grace detectives homes, uh, Puro, Marple, right, Columbo Blanc. What would the game be like and what left field choice? Would you go for the roster? I mean I would, I would make it either, basically exactly like Hitman or basically exactly like Hotel dusk, yeah kind of the only two places I'm going there and then I would also want to put uh uh Phoenix Wright in there in the cast uh. I don't know if that's super left field, but I would like to see him as part of that uh Entourage. Your mind would just be Power, Stone or Gang Beasts, and I would just have them fight man with no. No solving any Mysteries just have Colombo fight, poor row, yeah, sometimes Jeff's answers so much better than mine that I get mad because, yes, a power like an arena fighter, yeah CPU, I haven't watched that I can't wait actually now you've mentioned that that would be a Fun one to watch, uh, Benji glasskey says: Hey piss teeth. What games are like set in small towns, though, like that kind of stuff I can identify with as long as they don't go overboard like like it's weird, because it's Japan but Persona fours, small town Vibes, I kind of like jive, with a lot kind of a Weird thing for me to identify with the game about a Japanese high schoolers solving murder mysteries but yeah yeah yeah. I um trying to think of any good answers to this, but I think I'm kind of kind of the same where uh this job. This job's kind of not does not make for good video game fodder. An early 2024 release around March sounds more difficult, since they don't want to risk their switch holiday sales for 2023. This isn't 2016, when the Wii? U was already effectively dead, I mean maybe but look at some point. Those sales are gon na slow down anyways, because this stuff is getting ancient uh and you know you're gon na have a new Pokemon game or something to help out like at some point you're at the excess look. We might have like a slower holiday as we get ready for the next Hardware thing uh. That'S that's gon na have to happen. What the most important thing is making sure you position the next Hardware to succeed. Yep, it's uh! It'S! It'S tough! That there's no great way to time out this transition, so there's gon na be sacrifices kind of no matter what they do. So I think they're just going to bite the bullet and probably do it early 2024. At this point, I keep going back and forth. I know, but it's hard it's hard to like pen this stuff down. I think they every time this comes out, we'll say it that they, I think they have a hard time. Picking a time frame for this but yeah early 2024 does seem still like the right time, like getting all the way to late 2024. That'S so far off the switch could feel so old by then yeah. I owned a GameCube along with an Xbox back then so I have the big hitters covered, but I'm curious if you're aware of any deep cuts that are unique to those consoles. Think a bunch P.S. I think it's called yeah uh, so those are worth checking out. Shrek Super Slam is like Power Stone, but with Shrek uh and that's like actually not bad. If you want to talk about uh, deep Cuts so uh, so there you go, there's so many uh GameCube games, uh that are that are worth checking out like that. I could probably go on and on but uh. Those are some suggestions there. I know Jesse have anything on the Wii side. Yeah yeah, I would uh definitely don't miss out on punch out. Uh punch out was very good on the Wii uh and then uh. Look what I like to do recently, especially with the analog pocket um, is look at games that actually didn't get released, uh outside of Japan and recognized that almost all of them now have English English language patches and they're very easy to find uh. So a good one on the Wii is Captain rainbow uh. It'S got a lot of cool references to other Nintendo games. It'S really strange, really weird. If you want to play it on PC, it actually plays really nice with a with a controller and I'm sorry with keyboard and mouse. But uh everything on the Wii seems to run pretty well on the the steam deck and the controls have just been mapped for you, so you might as well give it a shot on there as well chaos.
