Affinage - B-Red

Available at Sally's

Mixed with:

Elite Cream Peroxide - 40 vol

(use 30 vol for more rich red - recommended)

GREAT TIP FOR REFRESHING DYE:

Use your fave semi permanent dye

TIME:

I left my roots in for total of 1 hour

Rest of my hair = 20-25 mins ish (because it's been bleached before)

TIme varies depending on the developer etc so READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS!

LASTING COLOUR:

The dye lasts AGES on natural hair - I've done it to my roots before and it really didn't fade! (or at least i didn't notice it!)

Unfortunately on pre-bleached hair it fades, because bleached hair doesn't hold colour very well. :(

I re-dye my hair once a month (my hair grows fast) and for the bleached bit - I am constantly maintaining it.

MAINTENANCE:

I use Delorenzo FIRE RED shampoo

(as well as Redken)

Rusk - Scream - Rage Red rinse

I also mix JEANS COLOR in CHILI RED with my Redken conditioner.

Conditioning Treatment by Nashi

You can always top it up with your existing Special Effects or Manic Panic in between dyes - especially if your hair is pre-bleached.

So basically, my hair looks like right now and I'm clearly happy about it. I'Ve got heaps of regrowth, my hair is turning orange and I'm tired of bleaching because it's damaging my hair. So today I'm going to show you how to go from this to something more. Like this, without using any bleach, that's right, no bleach. This is my new hero, magic contrast by L'Oreal. It comes in a box, it looks like this. The color is red or in various languages, with Rosa and Rouge. This duffle tone naturally dark hair bright red without having to pre bleach. I wanted my hair really really bright, so my hairdresser used 40 volt developer. With this, it's recommended to use 30 volt. Oh so you mix 75 mils of developer to one tube of motor contrast. I bought the magic contrast from a supply store in Epping called razón II, but usually you have to have a hairdressing license to actually buy it. If you know someone who's a hairdresser, get them to help you buy. Otherwise. I don't know where else you can get it from sorry anyway, get mixing until it looks like this next grips in Vaseline. Put it all around your hairline, where you think you'll actually get some dye there. This will avoid staining. Don'T forget your neck and ears first and gloves on grab a brush and start applying it to your roots. First, we'll do the rest of the hair later and in phantom phantom. So it took one whole tube to cover all my rigger pinky, put on a shower cap, impersonate Zoolander and then wait for about half an hour mix up another batch. So that's one more tube that I'm use making two in total, don't forget to actually record yourself applying the head out if you're making your tutorial. So here it is after I've applied it all over then throw on a shower cap and wait for another 20 minutes. Take this time to clean up the mess you made, so your mum doesn't kill you remove the shower cap carefully. I should be wearing gloves for this naughty and jump into the shower. Sorry guys, no footage of this one shampoo condition revealed, as you can see, I'm very impressed with this very impressed and regrowth is gone, which labels pat yourself on the head for a job well done now, just dry it up and style it and you're done to The water holes, the water

T-Squeaky: If your hair pre-bleached, DO NOT USE DEVELOPER 40 ALL OVER!! I asked my hairdresser this because I have bleached my hair once. Developer 40 will destroy your hair. You can use developer 30-40 on your roots depending on how dark they are and the rest of your head, use Developer 10 c:

Savannah Crouse: Ok, so i have been wanting to make my hair intense red without bleaching, so THANK YOU! YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER <3

Heaven Sanders: Thank you for this video! I really didn't wanna bleach my hair for me to be able to get it red. Ps. You're hair is incredibly beautiful! And the color is amazing!

MusicAndHorses4ever: Oh. My. GOD. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been looking EVERYWHERE to find out how to get my hair that color without bleach. My natural hair color is really similar to yours, and usually it just ends up really dark red or almost auburn sometimes without the bleach. *Goes to find the dye*

Elsie Cheyne: Thank you for saying no PRE bleaching!!

RedGibson: For those who can't aquire the Majicontrast stuff, I always found XL LIVE in any colour (be it: Red, Purple, Blue- or either shade) go on quite well over dark hair, atleast in my experience. Even better is XL LIVE Gloss, which is even more specifically for darker hair shades :) Hope that helps those who don't know a hairdresser, I'm envious of the shade that the majicontrast stuff offers though :(

Vania: Love the color but I have some advice. To apply color as a re-fresher on your mid lengths to ends, use a demi-permanent version with 10 volume. The reason for this is that the ammonia in permanent color opens your cuticle allowing color to escape which results in faster fading. Your ends don't need lifting, just depositing. Hope this helps :)

CocaScarabia: OMG...a tutorial that didn't put me to sleep! Pay attention everyone...make tutorials like this! Lively, fun, informative and concise. Thank you. Your hair looks lovely : )

Nath: Love your hair, thanks for the tutorial, you inspired me & I used the magicontrast magenta I'm thrilled with the colour & how easy it is to use. Thanks :)

LouLou Taylor: Wish me luck! About to do my second application today xx

Lilith Succubus: Thank you sooo muuuch!!! I've been having a hard time with the bleach. But thanks to your tutorial NO MORE BLEACH!!! :)

Junimaedchen2710: wow, this is the most entertaining and coolest tutorial style i've ever seen! bravo! :-) QUESTION: are you sure this works on completely brunette hair the same way it does on "pre-redded" hair? i love it!

This Olde Thing: Hi! I used your help from this video when dying my hair, but I tried henna and I'd like to share the results with you because henna does not fade like normal hair dye and is safer as well.

Christgin Spade: I just did it today and I love it. It's now my favorite hair dye. And red is my favorite color and that's what me and my mom did. I used Splat dye before this, but I was ok with it, but Loreal Majicontrast is now my hero. I love people with red hair.

Woolpedia: Nice video, but you are bleaching your hair. The developer has 12% peroxide, this is really high and is used if you wanna get ash blond. The powder is only to get rid of yellow hair after bleaching (blue or purple). But your red hair is amazing! I like it.

bekka mccaughey: I used this! And oh my word! my hair has never been so bright i loved it! thanks for sharing this :D

Emilia: I just used this method on my regrowth today, and it worked very well! I had 40 vol, but thankfully my mom knows how to mix chemicals so it worked as a 30 vol one, and that's red enough for me! This method is much better than bleaching before, it's easier and your hair will thank you later!

Mivviih Official Music: I was worried about dying my hair and now I feel more confident about the turn out THANKS!=)

pastelziall: OMG :O I've been trying to find every way possible to do this to my hair without bleach !!! YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER! Now the hard part, convincing my parents :3

That Keyboard Girl Sha: people still watching this video four years later, so cool!! but yes i've rewatched this like, four times cause i just dyed my hair red...and MAN is it tough to upkeep

Aishiya1: Cool! I used to use peroxide to lighten my hair, which naturally turns red when I use it, and it never made my hair rough like hair lighteners did. I love your hoops and I really enjoyed this video.

vikkivanityx: I had brown hair and dyed it red with majicontrast (2 tubes for long hair) and 30vol developer (75ml per tube) and it came out a beautiful crazy red (: Louna used 10vol because those parts were previously bleached and therefore way lighter than her roots Hope this helped!

Emma Hunter: I found some of this dye really easily today, YAY! Now to dye it, and hope it works on my hair! :D Love this tutorial, you're great! I think I'ma have to subscribe :P

GothicXBeauty: officially love you for this i wanted to get my red hair back to RED but didnt want the hassle of bleaching it after i had dyed it darker a while ago and this stuff worked! some parts are crazy red whilst others are nice and muted down looks all multi tonal XD

MissGuessByMarciano: love the "LOUNA SHOWS YOU HOW TO DOOOOOO IT " xD

KatzyKins: You are just too adorable xDD Thank you for the tutorial, I've been trying to get my hair obnoxiously bright red :D

ScrumptiousOlivia: OMG I NEEEED! I bleach my hair so many times I had to cut off the damage and now it sooo short!! A girl at my work told me she did her bright red hair without bleaching. I'm soo stoked. I just hope I can find it in B.C Canada!

X: This was really helpful! My hairdresser gave me a tube of this dye as an apology after he completely screwed it up in the salon, but handily forgot to give me any instructions on what to do with it. Thank you for this!

Seana01: It's so bright, but SOO pretty on you! <3

Lea Mcgill: Even though you didn't use lightener, this color has a lightener in it, otherwise it wouldn't have done anything to the dark roots. You shouldn't even take it all the way down your hair shaft. Just concerned about the integrity of your hair.

lindsey perry: I also used this on my hair and its the best red i have used :) and im so happy with the results

Disenchanted360: I'm a guy with short red hair, I believe I can pull it off but my parents would shake their head and say no. Its going to take a long time to persuade them! Great tutorial. I recommend my hairdresser to do the same!

Amanda C: i cant stop watching this. cant wait to dye my hair red!

Virenne: @reny010203 it works so well on me! I had a very dark brown (almost black) hair, and the red just POPPED. The rest of my hair was dyed a lot (I mean, A LOT) before, so the red wasn't so bright, but in my roots, they're just amazingly red. I think in my 2nd or 3rd application it will be as bright as Luna's.

shawnta baker: When u put the second tube of color in do u wash out the first or juss add the second on top

daisyleigh269: i did this today, the majicontrast is amazing! my hair is letterbox red :D

Helena Grilo: Luna, I desperately need your help. Last month I dyed my hair with special effects nuclear red. My previous hair was bleached blond, and dark blonde on the roots. It came out awesome. This month, my dark brown original roots began to grow, and I used Rusk basic red (permanent hair dye) and a 20% revealer, and now my hair is almost orange, and the roots are still brown. (...)

LonelyHotPocket: You're hair looks damn great! Thanks alot, I'll probably do this tooo!

Monique Spanjaard: Have you ever used any of the Loreal Majirouge colours? I can't find swatches of the colours anywhere but they are meant to be ultra bright reds for all over colour instead of the Majicontrast which was made for highlights. Just wondering if you've used of seen used somewhere! Thanks and I love your videos, highly entertaining!

Ashlee Haller: The fact that she kept 40 vol in her hair for at least an hour is terrifying. She's lucky she didn't get a chemical burn on her scalp. The color is still a bleach. It's lifts and deposits at the same time. It's like wellas magma line. I really wish people who aren't licensed didn't make videos like this.

Nicole Virella: Hey Louna! Ok, so I've been using the Loreal High Lift in Magenta. Will this dye lift up my already dyed red hair? Last time when I did my magenta color, I did my roots first, let it process and then added a tablespoon of shampoo to the remaining dye and rubbed it all over my head. What it did was refresh the color and make it brighter without overlapping color. Thats called a color "soap cap". Now can I do the soap cap with this dye or will I have to put the whole thing all over?

Carolin: Use a 20 or 10 volume developer. It's less harsh on your scalp. Also, make sure you're not allergic to the dye. Do a spot test.

Julia Otero: loved it!!!! i think ima try this for my red hair as well<3

Fyre Emberfyn: Thanks so much for this vid! I actually used L'Oreal HiColor Highlights (3 tubes) and 20 Vol L'Oreal Developer and it turned out GREAT! :D

Mrs_Katiekins: 40 vol is just as bad as bleach.

Kenya B: this helped me so much. Now hopefully if I show this to my parents it'll convince them that it won't kill my hair. <3 Thank yoouuu <3

mariana mulberry: nice tutorial, easy and cheap! But I got a question, my hair is light brown, and I bought a primont dye (not Loreal Paris), coppery golden blonde (like orange) so my question is: Can I buy 40vol peroxide and do the same as you did? Thanks for this awesome tutorial! :]

Equihan: Guess this is the best place to ask; I currently dye my hair with manic panic vampire red *without* bleaching (so it's a dark red wine colour). My regrowth is a dark chocolate brown. If I wanted to use majicontrast, can I use the same strength developer on the whole lot because it's never been bleached, or will the leftover plum purple from the manic panic absorb the dye/lift differently?

Sam Silker: Yeah, I used L'Oreal Hi Color and it came out pretty much the same as her tone of red. It's like the US version of Majicontrast/ Affinage, so you're good to use it~!

Candace VanHorn-Dunn: your hair looks great i love it! i watched your videos an thats how i got the guts to do mine an im totally inlove with it now

MangoThoughts: Wow that's the first the time I've seen it done like that, and perfectly it was done indeed , coo coo

clarky833: by FAR the best video i have seen on getting bright red hair with no bleach :) thank youu soooooo much; and you actually say how much peroxide to use!!

XfaroutzX: Thank you so much for this! I'll be using the same colour and 40 vol developer....your hair colour is amazing

CFrietchen: This is the first video by you I've seen yet and I just have to say- I absolutely LOVE the sidebar feature you included in your video if someone wants to skip ahead. It's like a DVD! Random lol, sorry. But that's a great idea

TheJiplove: I did it and it worked now I have bright red hair thanks louna!

AleKaiLin: THANKYOU! my hair waas sooooo bright with this even with 30 vol!! i´m so happy i got to see this video!! anyone who wants to do this just go for it! :DD

babygirladdy: random - for anyone who likes slightly darker reds, there's a very reflective one Garnier Nutrisse makes "Intense Auburn Red" that comes in Light, Medium, and Dark. There is also no pre-bleaching to use it, but even the light one appears a bit darker than the red in this video. I say "appears" because it looks dark-ish, but as soon as you're in flourescent or natural lighting, it's a very bright cherry red. Good texture, inexpensive, and I've gotten great reviews from my stylist after using it.

Camila Marques: @erjonesy i had previously dyed hair and used majicontrast with 40vol developer all over. It does not get as bright as Louna's hair, but it's a really intense red and i loved it. Does not fade much, but my hair got quite dry after, nothing that deep conditioning couldn't solve. If you keep dying with majicontrast, your hair will eventually be a brighter red.

kk1591: I have a question: if my hair is a cherry red colour right now, kinda faded though, what vol developer should I use so that my hair turns a bright red like this? if someone can answer this i'll love you for ever! And btw, you and your hair are perfect <3

Tracy Chester: I am actually excited about going to Sallys Beauty Supply in over a month when I have some cash. I love the video of her coloring her hair. I colored my hair black yrs ago and have kept re coloring it through out the yrs and just did it a month ago. Will I still be able to get results if I use it on my hair? I have extremely short black color treated hair. I wont need to color much if I high light...

mcrgerardway923: @scal7791 I hope this helps! You can redye as soon as you step out of the tub!! If you use the same color, anyways. If your hair won't take the color apply more hair dye in those areas then the rest. Same thing happened when I dyed mine blue. But yeah, if you're using the same products in the same color, just slap some more on whenever you want. Try blowdrying your hair to let the color set more. It really helps. :)

Klaudia249249: I'm thinking of doing my hair like this, but I have one question. Is it extremely damaging ? Because I have natural curly hair, but I straighten it every day. Will dying it this colour along with the recurring hair dye eventually rip my hair or make it frizzy ? :s Someone please answer, it'd definitely be appreciated ! Thank you ! ^.^ <3

PrettyOnTheeInside13: I know for a fact you can buy it on Amazon! It's not too expensive either (: There will also be recommendations on the page for the developer. Happy hair dying!

Autumn Murphy: I dyed my hair ginger and now I want to dye it bright red!

Scarlett: @smaileyface when you have red hair: 1. don't wash it too often. 2. when you do, use cool/cold water. red water tends to make it fade faster. 3. don't use heating tools everyday. if anything, only on special occasion, like a date. 4. go natural. my hair is thick, coarse, and naturally wavy-curly. i just put on a leave-in conditioner and let it air dry [leaves nice wave curls] and i don't wash it until it's so bleh that i really really have to. good color, but takes commitment and work.

Samm: If you already have red hair, then use 30 on your roots and 10vol on the rest of your hair if you are switching shades of red. If you are just doing your roots 30vol will be good. magenta red, should be a lot darker than her red. just keep it on until it looks like the color you'd like (keep in mind wet hair looks darker)

AleKaiLin: @vampiresiren2 it depends on how dark your hair is, i tried with 30vol and 20vol and theyre almost the same (i have medium-brown thick hair) but it really depends on your hair type, i recommend doing a strand test like i did :)

iheart skittles: It doesn't give the "bright copper red hair" on me, it just makes my hair look a little brown. But I do agree that it's very good for your hair, even though it doesn't give the best results for color.

Angie Barbuscio: your awesome lol :) love your energy cant wait to use this dye this week

MikaFelynx: Totally just bought this product. I hope it works well and comes in the mail soon

tastyvamp: OMG! really can't believe the results!!! its all I wanted my red hair to be but never achieved hehe...tks for the product and care tips let us hope I'll find those in my town :S xoxo

Alicia: @TheOnlyCatalina I used hilights over my whole head over previous salon colored hair which was permanent and the final results were bright ass red, better than any professional could do (I guess they just don't know what it means when you say you want RED hair) Do you know why the bottom half of my hair turns darker eventually? usually the top half gets great color then the bottom half is a shade or two darker

Norma Bretton: how long does maji contrast last ?i bought a drugstore one and one week and i faded ,orange ,not happy! how often do you refresh it? thank you ! love your vids

Indiana Sky: Just dye it, I have mid brown hair, and it work perfect for me xx

Sylwia Keller: Are you kidding me?! No bleaching and you got THAT effect? AWESOME! I'm gonna try this :D I've got a 6% Oxydant creme, I guess it's not enough?

Holly Wells: I've got naturally blonde hair, but been dying my hair a dark auburn for about a year and a half, and I've decided I NEED bright red hair. Even the lightest schwarzkopf red doesn't seem to brighten my hair at all. Any idea how Majicontrast will work on my hair?

JemmaInWonderland: @MeezyLove22 For the first time i dyed my hair i used this tutorial too, as my hair was all the same colour brown i just used 1 and it worked fine i got the same results! :)

Reem Shuga: I know they sell one at Sally's in american that is by Loreal as well called HiColor HiLights. I haven't tried it yet, but another youtuber has a tutorial with that dye and it looked really good. In my opinion you can never go wrong with Loreal.

abby bern.: "ENHANCING" our natural beauty is actually what we are doing .

vikkivanityx: I wouldn't recommend you to dye it with that short amount of time between dyes... it will damage your hair a lot and the color won't come out that well because, after a week, dyed hair is still spitting out the color, especially if it's a dark color like yours, so chances are the color will come out purplish red, or even look "stained". You should wait minimum 3 weeks between dyes if you're changing from one color to another... sorry!

Deanna Vranai: My mom's a hairdresser and developer does almost as much damage as bleach. It lightens the hair as it colors..so its pretty much coloring your hair and bleaching it in one step. The higher the volume the more light the hair will be.

tracey johns: DON'T PRE-BLEACH YOUR HAIR! If you use majicontrast...It contains bleach. Don't get confused between bleach and peroxide. Peroxide opens the hair cuticle to allow the colour molecules to enter the hair shaft. The higher the percentage of the peroxide the more it opens the cuticle. Imagine each strand of hair has tiny umbrellas all the way down it. When you use peroxide it opens these tiny umbrellas. 40 vol will open it the most. Bleach on the other hand eats your own pigment. The more pigment you naturally have the darker your hair. So if you have black hair and you want blonde hair you'll need bleach. The bleach won't work unless you open the cuticle...back to the peroxide. If you have dyed hair the bleach will eat the dye. Majicontrast is clever in that it has bleach within the product. It deposits colour as it eats at the dye or/and the pigment of your hair. But it won't work unless you open the cuticle hence the peroxide. If you use a higher percentage of peroxide it will do the job quicker however you can achieve a good result by using a lower percentage of peroxide but leaving on longer. Especially useful when colouring your own hair. Heating will also speed the process. If you bleach your hair and then use majicontrast you've essentially bleached your hair twice which is usually unnecessary and damaging to the hair. After you've dyed your hair you should use a ph balancing conditioner. This will help to close the cuticle and lock in the colour. It will also bring the hair back to a more acidic state as most of the chemicals in hair colourants are alkaline based. Hair is naturally acidic. The alkaline can make your hair feel dry for prone to breakage. Anyway hope this her a few folks

Emily Rigon: This product is a highlighting creme, which is why you use a developer in it! It is very much permanent! If you want a semi permanent colour, I suggest you buy hair dyes from manic panic, la riche directions, special effects or any of those types of brands. They're semi permanent dyes that fade after a few weeks and eventually will fall out after a few months :)

Countess Karu: That looks super pretty! I want my hair that color. Is such a red color going to come out later on to your natural color or would I have to bleach it out like when I dyed my hair black?

maddie lad: wow red looks amazing on you! my hair is a darker red atm but i wanna die my hair this bright one day. would you recommend it for someone with pale skin and blue eyes ? please answer :)

Maria Martinez: how long does it last ? and will it give the same results as if I bleached then dyed my hair ?

Jiblet: Loved the video, but question, does adding the 30vol developer damage your hair anyway? im really confused to how this is any better for your hair than bleaching? I have pink hair and i swore id never bleach it again.

Beth Millican: hi there I love this video its helped me find this hair dye :) just a quick question iv brought two bottles of the dye if I have to use both do I use the same amount of developer as the first batch... also how long would you recommend waiting for until you wash it out ? looks awesome I have brown hair im hopeing I get it this red iv been trying with other hair dyes and it just doesn't work :( x

Ringtail: How long does it usually last until it starts to fade? Just wondering? ^,^

SarahAshlieLove: Your hair is so pretty :D Im going Rock N' Roll red soon, I broke down and decided to go back to my old red. :) <3

Shugah Sweetz: I cant wait to try this out once i have the products :) AWSOME!

susanna laughlin: So 30 min for roots, then an additional 20 min for the rest?  That's AMAZING!!!  you rock!

Bistra Angelova: actually I applied majicontrast before seeing this tutorial and i did it wrong lol. I used it full with 40 vol on my full hair and waited 30 min for the roots and 30 min for the rest - just majicontrast with 40 vol - didnt add any other dye - it depends on the hair type but mine is still healthy after using 40 vol on the rest - However majicontrast is realy long lasting and Im happy I found it - Anyway as I said some hairs can stand higher volume preoxyde - I have been super platinum blond for long time then I did experiments with well magenta/violet color - with 30 vol I never had hair problem - I guess it depends on the hair type

Froufrou Deluxe: I used this exact video for my red hair for years and MAN did it take a long time to get healthy again

Carys Jenkins: FINALLY got my dad to buy me this stuff. RED HAIR HERE I COME! hwhw

Chelsea: Awesome color I wish I could look good with hair like that

Elaine Coia: 1. It is indeed epic. 2. A developer is what you mix with a dye to activate it, if a dye has to be mixed with a developer it will either be permanent or semi-permanent. Majicontrast is permanent. 3. This will definitely work on virgin light brown hair, just use a 30 vol developer and apply the dye all in one go (roots and length at the same time) and you're good to go.

kritzelstift: i have a question to the peroxide creme D: do you have to use it to get it as bright as she did or will it also work without the creme? and does the creme damage your hair?

Becky Doherty: I re-dye mine every couple months when my roots start annoying me... If you don't want roots to show and your hair grows as quickly as mine, you might want to do it more often as I'm lazy. I use the magenta red colour btw, so it may differ.

RandomJem: You can Get this at Sally's BTW :D got mine yesterday and it works SOOOO AWESOME <3
