You know we love you boo,

Alexzandria and Linwood

Hey clam fam Lynnwood here my beautiful daughter, hi. Her name is Alexandria. Today, we're gon na be talking to you guys all about sandy brown hair and how to help it grow longer because van as you guys can see, has sandy brown, hair and people asked us on multiple occasions. The special-interest flat ironed it it's down to say about the middle to low portion of her back here, um now, if you have sand around here or baby was sending brown hair, you know it's very prone to dryness, so we wanted to share a few tips tricks And techniques with you to help you guys have healthier hair in the long run. Hmm, oh my gosh, that's good! So today I'm drinking caramel, macchiato otherwise known as grape juice, because we only drink bougie drinks and just Naomi we'll get around to that in just a minute: okay, okay, alright, so the first of which is you want to keep in mind the sand around here? It does not have any melania and it's not protected from the Sun, so basically, what my Lennon is is millennion, just what gives your hair your skin, your eyes all their pigment and so basically what it does to act as a protection to the Sun? This is why you see people people who have fair skin tend to burn a lot easier because they have less melanin in their. They have more of a feel melanin instead of a you melanin, which is a whole different lesson anyway. So you want to make sure that you are keeping them out. This hair is higher porosity, which means it's gon na have more gaps in the cuticle. It'S gon na be more thirsty all the time and you're constantly going to be battling to keep moisture in now. In our instance van tends to sweat in her head, and on top of that she has eczema, so we have to be really careful about our product choices with her. That being said, let's dive right in first of which is since this hair is high, porosity we're going to be using some of Shea moistures high porosity line. I love this shampoo. It is excellent. It has apple cider, vinegar in it to help keep the pH balance. Nice and low, which means it, helps out with detangling as well as ensuring that hair has a nice shine. We also conditioned her with the high porosity masks that Sam is holding here, and we do this on about a weekly basis. With her, I will tell you guys with high porosity hair. It is more prone to having those gaps than the cuticles and those cuticles being wide open. So when your deep conditioning, often times you don't need to put it under heat, you can just get a plastic cap. Do I have a plastic cap up here? I don't. There'S no plastic cap at standby all right, so you just want to put a plastic cap like this boom right on the head when you're conditioning and that way you can ensure that it's covered it. Let the heat from the scalp do its job and we leave that on there for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes after 30 minutes you're, not gon na get much more conditioning done all right now. Let'S say it's been a busy week and you've been on the go, your baby's in sweating, and I had things like that. Halfway through the week a lot of times, we will Co wash her hair now I'll do a whole separate video about the purpose of co. Washing but basically we do this just to keep her balance high. This does not take the place of shampooing her here, because I still need to get it clean, but I also need to raise your moisture balance a lot number. Yes, that's! So if you have any problems with it, they know when you contact them to tell them which lot it came from that way. They can make sure they get rid of everything that was bad okay, so if, for some reason you don't have a high porosity line - and you have another condition that you really like, for instance this one here, which is a from ez moisture Richmond, I know it Came out of the shower it so got some water on it. I use it come on you just wipe on your pants. It'S just water, it's fine! This is he from me. The moisture rich mask and I absolutely love it for moisture, but it's not as great for high porosity hair. So what you want to do is grab a little Tupperware container like this baby here and then just put a touch of apple cider, vinegar into that container. With your conditioner and give it a good stir by the way you guys can see, we use a lot of apple cider, vinegar in this house. It is fantastic for all sorts of things, from digestion to cleaning to helping out with high porosity hair and so on and so forth. So more you know anyway, so you would do the same step with that, as you would with the high porosity masque. Let that conditioner sit on there now, whenever you are rinsing conditioner, make sure you rinse, with cool water, not cold cool. The reason why you want to rinse with cold water is because it help to close down the cuticles and a lot of you don't realize your cuticles react to pH balance. They react to heat as well as coldness, so you want to keep in mind and chemicals as well as heat. So you want to keep in mind that when you are rinsing products, you want to rinse them with cool water. It helps to close those cuticles down, which means less tinkling and nodding. For you later know, this is one of my favorite leave-in conditioners that we have for her, which is, I know that see that you were your sister mom, which, if you guys can see here this is just a Sally's brand leave-in conditioner. I really like it because you can tell a difference in terms of the moisture. It does have a couple silicones in it, but they are water-soluble, so they're just fine and it helps out with detangling this hair. Did you have something you wanted to say my mom? She put earrings on, which is my speaker, earrings, and I can't believe she did that and why would my mom even put these on there? Okay, so on a scale of one to zan, she's, clearly Xion and come through a fence. So let's put this down hood! Alright, moving right along you'll notice, the high porosity here, aka sandy brown hair in this instance, is going to be more prone to tangling. So after we have shampooed and conditioned and rinse with cold water and put in our leave-in a lot of times, we want to go back with a light oil. I love light oils because they help out with detangling. They don't cause the gunk on the hair. So, like castor, oil would be horrible for this, but in this instance we use these we're using jojoba oil, which, if you don't know jojoba oil, is considered a luxury quality oil. You can also use almond oil or avocado oil are both excellent choices. Grapeseed is a fantastic choice if you're looking for something a little bit lower on the price end of the spectrum. Now the nice thing about that is not only does it help out with detangling, but it also helps out with maintain the moisture balance it because it creates a little bit of a barrier on the hair without creating a heavy build up on the hair, like some Heavier oils like shea butter mango butter, things like that can on the hair, which we don't really need unless I'm doing like a twist out or something like that, where I really want to make sure there's a barrier for moisture protection on the hair. Now, let's say you're looking for a moisturizing styling cream, you can use this one here. This is the beautiful textures of moisture butter. It smells magnificent. It has a nice consistency. Here'S a new smell - I don't know if you guys, can see it there, but it really is well, it's actually a little softer than butter, it's very very nice and it's fantastic for keeping out moisture, balancing nice and high. It is one of my favorite over-the-counter products. It'S not extremely expensive, and it is wonderful if you guys are going to be using a gel, make sure the gel that you're using is free, SD, alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. I usually on her I'll use. The extreme gel you guys have seen me use it before. I absolutely love it because number one is very affordable number two, you get a large amount of it and number three. I don't have any issues with it. Flaking and, of course, it's possible alcohol and protein free which in this instance I really don't need protein. I need as much moisture as possible now in charge of sleeping routine. As you guys, some season is prepping, for here we actually had a custom-made, satin bonnet just for her head size. You can get them done on etsy things like that. You know just so that way: it's shaped for a kid's head size and you want to pop that on a model at for me. So the nice thing about this is when her hair is out, and it's like in its natural state without any braids. Anything like that, it allows us to go ahead and pop it on and it fits within the cap. The nice thing about having them custom made is the shiny side, which is a bit smoother, is on both the inside and the outside. So that way, you don't have to worry about, whichever we put it on and gives alt optimum protection either way, okie dokie. So let's say her hair is in a style like it is now, then we wouldn't be using this. Instead, we would be using a scarf like so which we would then tie on to her head. So in that instance, we are able to keep that hair flat as possible. So that way we don't have as many flyaways around here. The nice thing about satin is that it's not an absorbent material. What is, but it has a much lower absorbency rate than things like cotton, which most pillowcases think use in which most pillowcases are made out of and thirsty fabrics will drink up the moisture in your hair. So you want to keep in mind whether your high porosity or not, using a satin pillowcase like her pillowcase here using a satin cap like this one here or a satin scarf like that, one there or, if you're, a wild sleeper. Like me, I have satin sheets. So that way, no matter what my head is covered in this hair in these coils state and juicy, of course, we do try to limit the amount of heat that we use on her hair and from there. That is pretty much it. So we've gone through. All of our products that we have here, I know it's been a ton of information, so if you got lost anywhere along the way, feel free to watch us again, and please share this with somebody who has sandy brown hair or someone who has a baby with Sandy brown, hair they're looking to grow their hair quite a bit better now, uh, oh last and final bonus tip, is ensure that you are getting this hair trimmed regularly split ends, will travel like crazy and especially because is hair is very prone to dryness. It'S gon na be more prone to splitting some breakage. So if you have a child that has let's say darker hair or a loser, coil pattern, you'll notice that they don't need trimming quite as frequently as your baby, with sandy brown hair. Does it's just the nature of the beast I apologize, but it is what it is and if you leave those split in there, you can have more split ends, which leads some more tangling, which leads some more breakage, which leads to more split ends and you'll. Never see growth so start off by getting that hair, trimmed up if you're noticing that there are split ends that are present in the hair and I'm able to make a pizza with these. Oh, she can make a pizza with these. I hope that this video has been super informative. Myrtle is my Supreme: This is very useful I have sandy brown hair and so does my daughter & had no idea that having sandy brown hair required such special care...I've just been winging it for 28years

Tyera Williams: It’s been a struggle all my life! And my daughter has even lighter brown hair. You are a BLESSING! You and your daughter look alike as well so cute! Thank you for this

Joslyn Harden: I knew I wasn’t crazy, my son has very light sandy brown hair he even has blond edges and the ends are a dark blonde. It’s extremely dry and high porosity. It’s been a challenge to learn becuase so many ppl teach that high porosity is only from damage (from color or relaxers) so it’s very comforting to see so many comments on here about the sandy brown struggles.

Lorraine Lewis: My daughter has Sandy Brown hair too. She used to swim a lot when she was younger which turned her hair blonde from the chlorine. I would use a Conditioning neutralizing shampoo after swimming and that worked wonders on her hair.

Nikki Nicole's Curls: I have sandy brown hair too... And in the summer time it starts looking blonde .... But the easiest way for my hair to grow was to stop all heat use.. That's called the no heat challenge... Best thing I ever done for my hair...

MARI P: "This hair and these curls stay juicy" LOL! My 13 yr old daughter and I thank you for this video from the bottom of our hearts. Love you GlamFam!

Crafting with Angie: Zan and Zalina are my two girls. I just love the videos that you do with them Linwood and this one is no exception. Not only was it very informative, but Zan is such a good little helper. God bless you and Alison both for being such awesome parents and also sharing your two beautiful and sweet little girls with your subbies. :)

MeTee: I haven't watched the whole video and I am already saying Thaaaank yooooouuuuu! I have been asking this question to beauticians forever and they act like Im speaking "alien" ! I knew the color or melanin I should say in my daughter's hair made a difference in moisture and is more prone to dryness. I REALLY appreciate and am grateful for this video!

TheSageRomero: I love that I some how came across this video, 1st because I’m learning porosity and I’m low and my daughter of high. Almost every video mentions high porosity usually is from damaged hair although it doesn’t have to be. But no one ever said it could be because her hair is sandy brown! Thank you for taking the worry out that I damaged her hair cause it really seems very healthy and it’s down her back. ALSO I felt my daughters ends needed trimming the other day when I was doing it and I was like am I doing too much (like as in putting too much attention into her hair.. vanity) she’s not even 2 yet but she has ALOT of hair and i feel like I have to take care of it. Especially when I’m doing so much for mine to grow it out. You answered a lot of questions thank you

Deb JB: You are a genius!! This explains why for the life of me I could not keep my daughter's sandy brown hair moisturized! Thank you so much!!!

Ella Samuels: Thanks a bunch for the ton of info that you shared on a whole, especially on regards to sandy brown hair, which isb what my three year old little granddaughter has. I could not understand why her hair is always do dry, but thanks to I now knows how to treat it. Continue to take care of yourself and your family Stay glam.

Amanda E: Hi...I’m so happy I came across this video! I learned some good tips for my 3 year old daughter’s sandy brown hair! I like to twist her hair for a protective style. But most of the time her hair becomes very dry while in the twist. Do you have any recommendations for a refresher spray? Or any tips on keep her hair moisturized while in twist? Thanks so much! P.s My daughter’s hair is loving the Beautiful Textures hair butter!

natasha pryor: Mind blown... learning my natural has been a journey but I never thought my hair color was a factor. Thanks

Coily Girlz World: I just wanted to thank you guys for this video. I have sandy brown hair and struggled all my life with caring for it. Thank you for answering the lingering questions I have had FOREVER!! I have taken your advice and changed alot in my routine and I'm already seeing a difference. Thank you again <3

Faith Speaks Life: Thank you so much for this! My kids have reddish/sandy brown hair and I can't keep it moisturized to save my life. So, I look forward to trying your routine out. Hopefully, I can get my youngest hair to grow. She's four and her hair should be down her back by now and its not. Wish me luck!

Journey 2Asia: Lawd! Those split ends! My daughter has this hair type and I've been lax in getting her hair trimmed. I finally decided to do it and realized how bad it had become after it took me almost 2 hrs to detangle her hair. I had to cut most of it off. But i cut it into a bob and she loves it (or at least she thinks she does, she just turned 4). Thanks for all of the education!

R Oki: Great video! Oh and in my experience Sandy Brown hair also can be sun sensitive. (Learned that the hard way one summer!)

Marjorie Tyson: Hi GlamFam I wanted to thank you for this informational video. I have two young girls who are biracial with sandy brown/light brown hair and I was putting coconut oil and Shea butter in their hair after wash day. Today I bought avocado oil, some Shea Moisture’s leave in/rinse out conditioner, and Ions moisture spray leave in. OMGOMGOMG I just combed it all through and their curls bounced back immediately, which hasn’t been the case (considering those products I had been using were entirely too heavy for their hair type!) I cannot wait to see their hair dry to see the moisture they retain! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I want my babies to be healthy head to toe bless y’all!!

Lovelytrini82: I am so happy that you made this video. My daughter has sandy brown hair and its been really difficult growing her hair. I always feel like I am doing something wrong. It requires so so so so much moisture. I notice during the summer and spring it tends to get a little more reddish/brown. I usually co-wash a lot which helps but I need ALOT of pointers to get her hair long and healthy. Also the way you say melanin is funny lol regardless you are a blessing for this video.

Shavonia Jackson: She is an excellent model! Thank you for the video! How old was she when you first started tying her hair up at night? My baby is four and a very wild sleeper. I want to maintain certain styles especially with Easter coming up, I was curious. Be and stay blessed!

samwinn1580: Thanks for sharing the VERY helpful info. I am 38-y/o & never thought to think about how the color of my hair could play a part in its lack of moisture retention. I have sandy brown hair & I've tried a host of products in a search to find something that works best. I love acv, but I haven't been using it this time around of being natural. I've been using As I Am products that worked when I first bc. Now that I know SM has a HP line that might work, I think I'll try it out for a while to see how my hair responds. Thanks again for sharing. SN: You guys have such a beautiful family. Keep up the blessed work.

I'm thank full: Another great oil to try is sunflower oil, which I use almost daily since I too have high porosity hair. You guys are adorable!

supynorr: Great video- I am 60 years old and learned a lot about my sandy brown hair. For some of it I was on the right track, like extreme gel - thank you so much!

Shauna Rowland: This video has CHANGED THE GAME in my household!!! My 7 year old also has sandy brown hair, and your suggestions have made a world of difference! Thank you! A few questions: 1 - We also live in a super hot, humid, sunny environment...being out in the sun turns my baby's head into a brillo pad, so I'm constantly putting a hat on her head when playing outside (if she'll keep it on), or looking for products to serve as a sun protectant for her hair. What do you recommend? 2 - Ion makes a suncare spray - what do you think of it? Is there something else you'd recommend? 3 - Thoughts on protecting the hair for frequent trips to the pool, that doesn't involve a swim cap? Thank you!!!

Latrice Byrd: I love the collaboration, Zan was wonderful. Thank you for always bringing great content, and great information.

Monica Krantz: Linwood, I am newer to your videos and have sandy brown hair myself. I never knew any of this information and I am so grateful I came upon this. No matter what I do my hair never looks or feels moisturized. I thought it was just me, but it looks like it’s a struggle for everyone! Wow thank you so much. My hairs turning blonde from the summer and needs as much moisture as possible.

Sharmeesmyles: Hi! I'm late finding your channel, however I'm grateful I have, ESPECIALLY this video! I have sandy brown hair and have always fought the dryness. I thought I was doing something wrong. Now I know, it ain't me. Thank you for all the information and thanks confirming using Shea Moisture's high porosity product line was a good choice for me. (At least I got something right.)

P Pearson: This is an eye opener and I'm not even halfway through the video. I did not know sandy brown hair needed a little extra loving. I have my granddad to thank for this sandy brown hair.

Dee Hermione: Omg thank you! 2 of my kids have this same hair type and it’s been a struggle! My daughter is 10 and it’s been a uphill battle wish I saw this a ping time ago!

Monica 90: Thank you!! My mind is blown within the first minute of watching. I have sandy brown hair and I assumed that I was low porosity . I recently dyed my hair jet black and it feels smoother and holds onto moisture a little better- probably because of the dye deposits.

Calypso Haze: My daughter and I both have extreme sandy brown reddish hair.. I love it! And this video!

M Yarbrough: This video was so informative and helpful! I just had a moment! When you said she has sandy brown, high porosity hair and is prone to eczema, I thought “Oh so we share DNA” I have struggled with every problem you mentioned in the video. I will definitely be picking up these products. P.S. I wear box braids often to keep my hair from breaking off, what do you recommend putting on the scalp to keep it from drying out?

SOglam101: This video is a revelation for me ! I had no idea my porosity and my hair color are connected. My hair turned fine sandy brown when I got sick 12 years ago , I used to have thick jet black hair !

Shaylod: Omg thank you so much. This is the first video that I have ever seen about sandy brown hair. My daughter and myself both have sandy brown hair. For many years it’s been hard to tackle my hair. But even harder to find things that keep her hair moisturized. Please keep sharing these tips because I will be watching. Plus your princess helper is adorable.

Ms. Will-I-Ams: Thank you so much for the education. I am a grown up with always dry sandy brown hair, and this information has given me life.

Delilah Falls: This helps me so much i thought about using the shea moisture line because of my high porosity hair, but i didnt know which line of it to use. Ive used so many different brands, but my hair was always too dry.

Anjelica P: I needed this video so badly. My daughter's hair has been breaking off so bad and now she doesn't have a curl pattern like she did when she was 2 years old. I am going to try these tips and get these products because I am struggling to understand her hair. Thank you!

Bethlatee Washington: My daughter has dark sandy brown and we are not able to retain moisture in her hair at all as soon as i put oil on her hair its gone this is a blessing. She is always scratching i can't get it to grow just only to a certain length i am going to try these tips i pray they work thank you

Very KinkyCurl: I’m glad you made this video. I am naturally sandy brown but I dye my hair black. I’ve done it so much over the years I done forgot my hair was a delicate sandy brown . Much ❤️

Smiley: Thanks Linwood. This video was very informative and answered a lot of past issues with my fine brown hair. Like bad tangles after braiding. Bad ends and no moister.

Kamilah Smith: Thank you so much for these tips, both my son and I have Sandy Brown HP hair. We definitely needed this

ToriZee: I learned so much!!! I come from a family of dark brown or black hair people and mine has been a weird it looks black but it just dark dark dark brown color. I've always had a problem with keeping moisture in my hair. When I was permed I had no problems but now that I'm natural the next day my hair is like grease where???? I'm going to try some of these tips.

Jeanelle Espinosa: I have sandy brown hair thanks so much for sharing your tips they are much appreciated. I’m glad you mentioned the bit about trims because I trim more often than friends with darker hair and they always look at me like I’m crazy

Jacquie Sutton: Linwood I dont have a child with Sandt brown here but I have sandy brown hair...thanks for the tips; I will try this on my hair.

DIVESTED DIAMONDS: OMG! I know I am late to the party but thank you for this video. I have naturally two-tone sandy brown hair (like the inhabitants of the Solomon Islands). Thank you for the tips! Highly informative.

KK Sweetness: I’ve been waiting on this video. My daughters hair is Sandy brown and she just recently had crochet braids and they took the back of her hair out. And suggestions on how to get it to grow back fast?

Gloria Jackson: She is so so adorable! Love these tips that you give. Keep up the good work

Asia: I had sandy brown coils kinky 4b/c hair my entire life. But it’s the total opposite- or was - extremely low porosity. Since I’ve colored it - The porosity isn’t horrible but… yeah. Wish I knew info for that.

ShaunieBNaturalista: Dude! I cannot believe it. My hair is sandy brown, about the same color as Alexandria's. It's thick like hers too. I put massive amounts of product in it because it's always dry. High porosity? Less melanin protection? I think you really hit on something.

Star Baby: I have high porosity hair. Thank you so much for this video!

Tia B: It’s “The More You Know “ for me! I thank you and your daughter so much!

Sincere Presence: She is so gorgeous. The best thing ever is to see in a child's eyes how much they love their parents. She loves you immensely. Thanks for the moisture tips, you continue to Rock!!

Hairs Roxy: I have sandy brown hair and I grew up under a halo of frizz. I'm dark so ppl thought my hair was dirty. Now they think I dye it. Smh.

Sheilese C.: Omg!! This is my favorite video so far. I’m mad I’m late to the party with this one! I have sandy brown hair & I recently started working out everyday. & my ends have become so brittle. Will this routine work for adults with an active lifestyle? Also do you have any videos with hair care tips for naturals who workout?

Purple Plus: Thank you for posting this informative video. My hair fits this description and is perpetually thirsty.

Linda Flagg, MA, BCPCLC: I am so glad I found you on YouTube. You are an excellent teacher.

Joanne Smith: I have always known that my hair was different, it acts better when permed. I have gone natural and it is a struggle to keep the moisture. Dudley's PCA leave in has always worked well, but my hair drinks it up. Any thought about the Dudley products?

Gemini mom: Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying to find ways to keep moisture in my kids hair and it has been a struggle. It gets so dry and its like what i do put in the hair drinks it all up. Tfs these great tips

Merrybandoruffians: I’m 25 and just learning how to manage my own hair (don’t judge me.) My hair is always super dry, my ends are constantly split and my hair is super porous. My hair also has that sandy-reddish color. Which I thought was because of the relaxers Id been using for the past 10 years or so, but when I stopped relaxing and big chopped, my hair was still reddish and I was very confused. Then my grandmother was like “oh, You’ve had sandy hair all your life!” And I was like huh? Wtf is that? And she was like “you used to come home from camp with blonde streaks in the front of your hair.” And I was like “...that didn’t happen to everyone?” Anyways, Long story long, turns out it’s not the relaxer and I’m not an alien, I just have sandy brown hair, lol. Thanks for the tips.

Patricia Taylor: I have never heard an explanation like this concerning sandy brown hair... which I have. Thanks a bunch for the info. I thought that having high porosity hair meant I was doing something wrong and never figured it out.

Brittney Thompson: Love y’all thanks for the info I will definitely be trying some of theses out❤️

A.M.B.: I love the tips on high porosity hair. I ordered some the items and found out that I had some of the others

jessrveasey: Thank you! I have black hair and my daughter has sandy brown hair. Where it came from I have no clue...I had no idea what to do with her hair until this video. Thank you.

Staci S: I have a Sandy Brown kid. Everything seams to just sit on top of her hair and be too heavy. Butters are too heavy. Her hair doesn't seem to like aloe or coconut. It looks great initially but then feels hard. Glycerin products also seem to leave a cast. Her texture looks mostly 3c with the edges being a different texture and small patch in the back of her head being the same as the edges...idk what it is , but it's soft and more kinky texture than curly . any tips for moisturizing this head?

Senobia Sanders: Omg I’m the only one in my family with sandy brown hair. Growing up I hated my hair color...I’ve dealt with dryness all my life My daughter is 8 months and has my exact hair color and texture. Idk what to put in my hair or her hair. My hair is super thick when natural but when flat ironed it’s thin, it’s so weird. Haven’t put heat in my hair in 3 years, my hair is so sensitive to heat

Alise Wilson: Hey Linwood and Glam Fam, I have type 4B Low Porosity Chestnut Brown hair, My biggest concern is that my hair is so dry it feels like straw, This happen over the winter months, I do believe the culprit is one of these two hair products I was using { Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor or Camille Rose naturals moisture butter with green tea & jojoba... other butters have dried my hair out before... Can you please recommend something that will put the moisture back in my hair without weighing it down.

I'm definitely getting it for the brown and blonde teenage son of mine! His curls at like a sponge. S/N I wish my daughter could keep her satin bonnet, and scarf on and how in the world does the satin pillowcase end up off too? #TheStruggle
