Let'S hope this works well, hi everyone and welcome to my youtube channel lisa thomati here - and i am sitting with my good friend dr elena serenova, molecular biologist and today's topic that we're going to be talking about is reversing hair, graying and slowing skin aging and everything About longevity and anti-aging so welcome to the show and to the channel alina lovely to have you again. I love doing this thanks. Thank you so much for having me. Thank you. It'S if all of our skin looked like yours would be all happy um. So if, if my skin looked like yours, i'd be really really happy. Oh thank you. Thank you! So much lisa. I do have a couple of tricks that i'm uh i'm using on a regular basis to be honest with you yeah and i think so we're going to dive into some tips and tricks today. So, let's start off with hair graying lots of people dealing with hair, going grey uh, including myself, and trying to fight it and reverse it um yeah. Can you give us a little science on it? Why hair goes gray and how can we reverse it? We kind of need to have a look at the biology and understand the basics of this process, and it's actually a multi-step process that we're dealing with here. So the reason why our hair goes gray is because we're basically start lacking the pigment um. So you know, melanin is a pigment that we all have in uh in our hair and our skin, and this uh determines the um, the color of our of our hair um. So what happens is that melanin is being secreted by what we call melanocytes right? So melanocytes are tiny little cells that are basically on the on the basis of your hair um. And what what's going on is that we we now see that with stress and with different conditions that we are exposed to, we might trigger um a disease, a condition that is called telogen effluvium, which is a form of temporary hair loss. That usually happens after stress a shock or a traumatic event, so one example would be a friend of mine. She went into labor and she said that, after giving birth to her son, she basically had a whole section um that went gray right. So this was a very, very um big stress for her body, and that was the result. However, what's going on is that after the stress is gone, we actually might be able to sometimes get the the color back, and this will depend on the amount of melanocytes that we have um in that moment now, melanocytes are basically a finite amount of cells that We have and they usually stop proliferating and they stop being repleted after a certain age, and the reason for that is that um. In order to to produce more melanocytes, we need more uh regional stem cells. We need more melanocyte stem cells um on the skin of the scalp in order to replace the melanocyte population. Now we know that one of the hallmarks of aging is that we actually get stem cell depletion, and why do these cells start being depleted? Is because um they basically start getting shorter telomeres, which is another hallmark of aging um and they basically stop proliferating and we stop losing uh. We start losing the stem cells, the melanocyte stem cells and, as a result, we we are losing the melanocytes as well. Now, uh, what we're also seeing with aging, is um two very crucial processes that um that take place in all of our tissues, including mitochondrial production. That is very important to basically maintain um. You know a good telomere length and a good function of the cell and then also um. We basically get nad depletion, so nad or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is basically a master regulator of human metabolism is a very important molecule implicated in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including um. You know the um the boost of mitochondrial production regionally and dna repair. Now this is the biology behind why we we stopped producing the melanocytes that produce the color of our hair and unfortunately, this is inevitable with age. But what we're seeing is that these processes, both the mitochondrial production and the um the nad amount that we have in our cells. This is actually something that we can influence because with molecules like nad boosters like nmn, we can actually replete our nad levels, and this would result in actually more mitochondrial production and nad is seen to be linked to multiple hallmarks of aging, including um. The the production of stem cells and including actually telomere lengthening as well now there is a very interesting study out now a recent study um. It was published a few months ago in both mice and humans. That is showing that after animan supplementation, um and nad repletion as a consequence, we do get longer telomeres and this effect seems to be um time dependent. So, for example, after 30 days, you do have an increase in telomere length, um and then after 45 days and after 90 days, you get even higher increase of the telomere length, and this is very interesting because if you can maintain the length of your telomeres, this Means that your cells are happier and they can keep on dividing and the stem cells can keep on repleting themselves and, as a result, you might be able to um to reverse the the gray hair. There is no particular study um on the gray hair that we currently have. However, the preliminary results with this link. Uh are very, very interesting and i think that this is really cool and and really promising, and once we have some more studies, i think we're going to know for sure um if this is a good uh treatment strategy, basically for gray hair, but from my anecdotal Evidence from evidence that i've heard from other people um, they actually have um mentioned to me that by taking anime and repeating their nad levels, they already have uh some sort of a gray reversal um. So this is really really cool and exciting. Yeah i've got a friend, uh, sarah bishop and she she's. Actually, you know wrote to me and said my hair went from completely gray to completely blonde again, which she was absolutely talked about when she started taking enemies so anyway, mononucleotide for those listening and telomeres are the others they're sort of like the caps on the end Of your your dna strands and these get shorter with replications, when we, when we get them to thought, then we get dna damage. Basically, an unraveling of the dna is that correct yeah. That is correct, so basically our our telomeres um. If our chromosomes would have been the shoes, the telomeres would have been the shoelaces, so they tie the whole structure together and they make sure that telomeres are not losing what we call their genomic integrity and everything the the dna inside the chromosome is being maintained properly And with each cell division, what we're seeing is that the telomeres get shorter and shorter and then at some point, when we reach the end of this cup, then the cell stops dividing and it's basically an h cell and it it it can't go any further. It still it stops dividing and then eventually days off and then when it dies off, and we we've talked about on previous podcast, because we've done a number of podcasts together on pushing the limits. Um we've talked about apoptosis and autophagy and getting rid of these senescent cells when they get to that point so that we can actually start to produce then more stem cells, so there's nicotinamide mononucleotide and these other nad boosters do they uh increase the stem cell production As well is, or is it just to do with the mitochondrial um so having more mitochondria in the cell to produce more energy yeah, so uh, we currently don't have a particular study on stem cells and um and animan, but from the science that we understand already. We do see increased mitochondrial production, we do see some other um, very positive signs in cells and even in patient biopsies. So, for example, in muscle uh, biopsies uh of patients that have been taking nmn see better um tissue, oxygenation, um and and better um insulin sensitivity. As well so we've already have demonstrated this in human clinical studies, which is very important, so we're seeing this uh. So my guess would be that um. I actually would assume that we would have increased production of stem cells as well. We just need to uh to kind of prove it and to show it scientifically as well and document it and and um. So you know i know i do a lot of research around hyperbaric oxygen therapy and one of the reasons why this works is it's getting more oxygen to the hypoxic tissues and it's creating more stem cells, so perfect synergy. I see between these uh, these um therapies - and this is this - is the cool thing about longevity and anti-aging science that we can start synergistically. Putting some of these pieces together, and i do that. I put my my enemies every morning, along with my other uh longevity supplements that i take and then i open my hyperbaric and you know it's hopefully doing its job. You know i'm turning 54 this year, so i'm desperate for all this science to keep up with that, because the gray hairs uh. You know i've got a few pop through, but even in myself, i've noticed like, like my brother, who is four years younger than me, is completely gray, where, as i have you know, like small patches of gray, if i'm, if i'm being completely honest, i'm dying yeah The the the stuff up here um, but there's only small patches. So perhaps you know you know we may have similar genetics uh and maybe i'm because of the stuff that i'm taking i'm slowing that process down and that's exciting. For me, uh and as a woman, you don't wanna age. You wan na you wan na, look great, want it vital. You want to look beautiful, you want to yeah, so you know, like all of these things are very important and what we, what we see on the outside of course, is a reflection of what's on the inside as well, and so, let's talk briefly about skin. Well, so, from from a skin perspective, how would any men and nad boosters been working perhaps to benefit the skin, got a bit of a leg on the line? There sorry guys just keep saying so on that matter in terms of the skin health, oh hello, yeah! So what we're seeing is that there is a very big trend in the industry: um, basically pushing all the skin care and uh, focusing on skin care as uh as creams. Only and they're not really wondering about what's going on on the inside. So, with regards to skin aging, what we're seeing as we age is that we uh we are exposed to different chemicals, uv rays and uh reactive oxygen, species, uh smoke and so on, and this affects the skin really badly. And what we're seeing is that we we start having the wrinkles um and things like that, because, as we age, the collagen and the alistain as being are being um reduced. And this is what produces this. This wrinkles that were seen now um when it comes to skin care. My approach um, is always holistic. So, besides the skin care that i would put i would put on my skin and there there are tons of things you could do so it's very important to provide your skin with an antioxidant action. So there are some serums with vitamin c, for example, that are not very expensive that you can use, and that would be very efficient and then, of course, topical hyaluronic acid. I think it's a great asset for skin care, because we're seeing people um bind all this hyaluronic acid and collagen, and things like that and supplement. However, some of these products are actually not being absorbed because they're they are broken down in your stomach into amino acids, and those amino acids may or may not be used in the future to actually produce the collagen that you so desperately need. So i think when it comes to skin care, for some ingredients that need to be applied, uh locally, it makes sense to put them on. You know as a cream on and then um with regards to your cellular health uh. You also need to think about. You know the the health from from the inside out. Basically, and for that again, you want to maintain some basic cellular processes, including the mitochondrial production, including the nad repletion, and this is where nad boosters come in uh such as animan, because you want to make sure that you actually give yourselves the the boost that um. That is needed in order to um to naturally be happy as a cell. You know, because there is, there is this concept of stress in biology, so so in in the real world we are using. The word stress uh as a very genetic kind of term when you're in distress - oh my god, i'm so stressed. I have an anxiety, but we also have the cellular stress. So our cells also get stressed and the less nutrients they have um, the more stressed they. They will be basically so. This is also very important and uh. This is where supplementation with anaman comes in and actually uh in a study in pre-diabetic women, where nmn has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity. What they also show is that uh animen is actually able to um to activate the collagen production pathway from the inside out. So this is amazing, because you can basically take your animal and then you have um a really nice and robust way to boost your collagen production, and you don't have to guess just like with other supplements, like you know, collagen and pills, whether it's going to be Absorbed or not so this is breathable and for me personally, i think i did um definitely see this effect on my face, so it looks more plump um ever since i started taking at a man. So after a few weeks it did kick in um and this was really cool. So that's that's the beauty of this compound, so you do have some short-term effects in terms of energy and focus that you're feeling after a few days. But after that there are some long-term effects. So after a few weeks after let's say a month, you will stop uh craving desserts as much because it increases insulin sensitivity. So you don't have the need for the desserts anymore and combine that with berberine by the way, which is another natural compound and your cravings are completely gone. So this is really really cool and exciting and then um you also have um. You also have the collagen production there, which is very useful for um. You know for your skin and your face and for looking younger yeah and your joints and your yeah everything your connective tissue and so on - and this is the the sort of i think misunderstanding. Dr david minkoff talks about this, who also had on the show um. You know when we take proteins and we think that that's going to all become uh protein or amino acids in the body that we can use for muscle and hair and skin, and everything else is not necessarily true, because a a large proportion can be turned into Uh, glucose and and for for glycogen yeah for energy production. So when i have a if i had a whey shake, you know with whey protein only about 16 of that is actually going to be turned into amino acids that the body actually uses as protein and as amino acids and the rest actually turns into energy energies. Uh via the glucose in the glycolytic pathways - and this is problematic, because people think that they're having protein and not carbs um, but it's actually turning into carbs. So if you're you're trying to do a low-carb diet but you're having whey protein drinks or other collagen things, and even things like steak and and meats and so on, uh a portion of them will turn into the amino acids that you're wanting. But a portion will also turn into this, go through this glycolytic pathway. So what we want is amino acids that um that are really uh utilizable by the body um and there's some great great things in that realm um, but also yeah the nad. That process is going to cause so you're saying that the study is coming out. That'S going to improve insulin sensitivity is going to improve your ability to make the collagen within the body through the pathway. That'S super super exciting alina we've. We'Ve raced through a whole lot of really in-depth science, but if anyone wants to reach out go a little bit deeper, we'll put all the links down below in the show notes to our websites and what we do uh and if you've got any questions. Please leave some comments below and we would be happy to answer those dr laina any any sort of uh wrapping up words that you you'd like to share. If that was good english, i don't know anyways that you'd like to add to the you know to the discussion today around skin and hair aging yeah. So with regards to hair. Actually, we forgot to mention that there is also some proof that uh with um vitamin b supplementation such as vitamin b7 biotin and pandothenic acid vitamin b5. It looks like they also help uh with reversing the gray health hair. So what we're seeing is that vitamins b are actually very important for for your hair and they're, actually very important for various reasons. So vitamins b are definitely my favorite vitamins. Um and you know, animen is also a form of vitamin b3, basically um. So i think that um, you know we have to be smart about our supplementation. There are different kinds of supplements out there. There are some cheap multivitamins, for example, that i don't think they work that well and then there are some premium products. So, for example, there is um there is beef, liver that you can get desiccated beef liver, you can get in a capsule, and this is just full of vitamins b, and you know there are some brands that that offer very high quality products. So we need to be smart about our supplementation and always go um. You know for high quality products, that's very important because um, you know this is your health and there is no greatest um. You know asset. You want your to spend your money on. You know like when it comes to health, like you should never think about. Oh, my god, this is expensive. This is going to be more expensive to be. You know, treating age-related diseases in a decade or two, if you're not going to spend this money now. So you know, i think that this this is my um take-home message for this podcast. I think you know uh. We need to be very conscious about what we're putting in our bodies and um and yeah and just to be healthy. I think that's pretty good to see and b vitamins. You know the whole range from you know, b9 and b12, which are really supportive for your methylation pathways, red blood cell production and uh, and and and even things for like cardiovascular health. You know if your homocysteine levels are our methylations out, there's just so many reasons to take good b vitamins, and - and this is also like for vegetarians and vegans, who are out there listening to me, you know what your levels are, so that you can supplement where Required because you you know they can you can get them. You know most of the stuff when you have a really good diet, but if you don't have a really optimized diet, then you need to keep a a level uh and a check on these. Dr elena, thank you so much for your time today, we'll be doing a couple more of these series, because every time i talk to you, i learn something, and you know like many other men and women out there at my age group that just really want to Know all the stuff, so they stay looking good feeling, good feeling healthy and looking looking gorgeous. So thanks very much elena

Dr. Rick: I have a friend who turned completely gray in her 20's. She very regularly dyed her hair, so it was not really a topic of conversation. One day, we were discussing her pre-mature gray hair. She said her father had the same exact issue, also going completely gray in his 20's. I met her father when he was in his mid 90's and he had a full head of thick gray hair that looked amazing. When he passed away at 102 years old, he still had that thick gray hair. Apparently, gray hair is not a good measure of somebody's biologic age, but more likely due to genetic factors.

Jasmine Jennings: Love this! Thank you for this discussion I have been supplementing MNM for a few months, I wasn’t taking it to reverse my grey hair but hey, I hope that happens

Cat Man: Interesting. From 22 months experience of taking NMN, but with no medical knowledge I would like to add my views: Can NMN reverse grey hair...yes but it takes a very long time, and what about skin ageing...yes, incredible results that are always boosted within 20 minutes of taking my daily 1g. I know from looking around that NMN works differently on everyone and my anaology without medical knowledge is NAD top ups are selective, either those cells that need it the most are repleted first or those that are easier to top are repleted first, either way results are different for everyone who takes it, but all cells will benefit with repeated use. In 2013 I was 51 and commonly mistaken for 63. By the end of 2020 I'd had numerous mini-strokes, angina, heart disease and some people wouldn't even come near me, I looked absolutely dreadful. That's when I started taking NMN. Today I'd say that 25% of my white hair is now black again but my skin feels amazing, I cannot even remember a time that my skin felt so good. I was on a high dose of Isorbide mononitrate for angina, blood thinners, statins etc, I couldn't make it to my front gate without angina meds, spray or tabs, now I can go days without either and do at least three times as much as before without getting an attack. I'm now commonly mistaken for being around 50 to 55, I'm 60.

Joachim Brolin: I notice a gradual reversal of my previously whitening hair from intermit and prolonged fasting. This started in June after a month, more and less. I'm NMN since beginning of September and will ha e to see what will happen long term. I'm 59 by the way. Thank you for great insights

D Dutton: I took .25g NR for a couple of years, then dried parsley and .5g NMN and then 1g NMN only for two years. My beard has definitely gotten a bit darker rather than lighter. Friends have remarked about it without prompting. Warning-High doses of dried parsley like 40ml/day reduced my platelets below the reference range. .5-1.5g NMN uses up methyl donors and my homocysteine went from 7 to 17. So please do this under the advice of a physician.

Pete Brown: After reading a few comments, let me add something about NMN reversing grey hair. The grey hair you have now will not change. The only thing that can change is the new hair that is growing. If NMN does reverse greying hair color, it will begin at the root.

Huy Phan: I just started taking NMN for a few days and I am seeing less hair falls in the shower

Flash Gordon: I'm 59 and I started taking NR at 50, just switched to NMN recently - still no gray hairs, knock on wood!

paul nixon: Great content thanks. I have taken a b complex in the past and started with a minor nail yellowing kinda fungal. Have you heard of this before.? I mentioned it to my doctor at the time he looked at me like I had 3 heads.

Pete Brown: Lisa, Thanks for a great video. This may sound a little weird, but isn't NMN something we should take for a while and then stop for a while? Here's my logic. If we increase take NMN for six months, and it increases our telomeres by even 20%, why not stop for six months? If it took 40 years to loose telomeres, do they really need to be replaced every day forever? More of my logic. I take many supplements, but I don't take them all every day. I fear system overload, so I cycle through from one set to another for a few months at a time.

Vibha Spalding: I have been thinkibg about taking nmn, resvervatrol etc for a long time, like 2 to 3 years since I read and researched them in 2019, but still not started because of the expense. The combination is not cheap. I did try for 2 months nmn, reservatrol and tmg. I believe that is the reason for extra energy. I do have tmg, b3 and quercetin now. But I wish to go further and take nmn combination soon. B complex has run out and I will order that soon. I look and feel a lot younger than my age of 60's. I want to have sufficient strength to start working again. My gym workout tells me I am getting stronger but do get tired afterwards.

Amy Chen: Thank you Lisa. Always looking forwards to watch your new topic about health❤️

Aaron Kitching: I started going grey in my late teens. I'm 44 now and am almost totally grey. I've been taking NMN for 3 months now but I don't see any difference so far. Besides the grey hair, my body does look more muscular and my waist size has gone down from 28 to 26 inches. I don't see any improvements on grey hair yet though but maybe I just need to give it more time, or increase from a low dosage. I also take Berberine and Cod Liver Oil.

gat569: How does NMN compare to NAC/glutathione or lifewave x39/49 patches for antiaging?

Samuel Hajdúk: A very informative video! May I ask how long have you been using nmn?

Seekingthemiddle Way: Link to the studies linking NMN to greater telomere length and collagen production?

Mike: Started NMN about 3 years ago. My hair was almost all white! It is almost all brown again now! NMN makes hair dark again!!!!! Don't expect overnight transformation, it takes a Long time!!

susy may: Timestamps would help your marvelous presentations!

Kayla Read: Would you also recommend NMN if there is a strong family predisposition to cancer? Had a pre-cancerous condition myself. I probably won't get an answer. I'll keep my fingers off it and wait.

Fear Zero: Nope been on it for 3 years. Still getting greyer by the years.

Corina V: My hair isn’t grey anymore: it turned brown (I’m 55 and my hair became grey about 3 years ago.) I have been taking NMN since November 2021 and adding TMG since January 2022. My hair turned brown in March 2022. Lucky me!

Steven Lucks: Hi have you looked into the Glycocalyx Structure that you need to get the mitochondria working and stem cells working again?

Ronald Allison: Wow that MNM is a wonder drug. I bought my nmn from one of the most reputable companies out there taken it 3 times before I had to stop, was bleeding every time I went the toilet.. feeds cells even tumors or poylups.

Pol: So does having grey hair means that we're aging faster in all of the body? I'm only 29 and showing lots of grey hair. But my skin seems to look fine.

Brimp555: I have seen some research that some brands of NMN sold on Amazon actually contains zero NMN. How could one know what brands to buy?

Kirsti Jeggo: I’m excited I just ordered some a few weeks ago :)

totalfreedom45: Take (1) a superior multivitamin/mineral cap or tab; (2) hydrolyzed collagen peptides, types I and III; and (3) these *_liposomal_* supplements—curcumin, glutathione, NAD+, NMN, NR, resveratrol, and vitamin C. ☮

Tracy L.: Mine didn't change it stayed gray but I can say, I definitely feel better since adding this Over 1 year mark

Annie Abraham: There are so many brands, What would be a good NMN to take?

The Nomad Thrifter: Ive been taking it for over a year and I am still salt and pepper.

Aaron Waud: A 20 min answer to a "yes" or "no" question.

Neil Hupping: I’ve heard people in Autophagy have their grey hair turn dark again

jorge luis rodrigues: I'm 60, and the photo of the side is current.I've been doing intermittent fasting over 30 years.

Michael Acton: What about using molanitan 2 for changing gray hair back to color

Yuval Kapellner: No it doesn't. BUT glycine + nac does to some extent.

Valart VALERIE HOPE BENNETT: THANK YOU VERY MUCH EXCELLENT SHARING SUCCESS.

___: A supplement merchant says NMN supplement is "amazing". How much can you trust that?!

SUPERDOGE: I'm using NR to increase my NAD I really don't know if it's working. I've been using for 6 years and still don't know.

Glenn Thorn: Using Mnm for 3 year's now ,2 grams a day i live a relatively stress free life 60 year old male with greying hair

P A: She mentioned high quality products, what does she recommend

Netto:

Rachel Pianogirl: The lady on the right is actually 70 years old! Can you believe that? She really does have amazing skin at that age!

Manuel Ojeda: The audio is not that good.

Kazz Copes: Hyperbaric chamber increases telemers too

Kayla Read: My Hair is totally Grey. But my Skin look very good for my age. Iam 53.

Robin P Clarke: Can it reverse my hair becoming invisible?

Kenneth Marquis: Stress is number1

L R: Don’t make this promise… I have a full head of gray hair and a summer’s worth of supply of this nutrient.

DanTwister: Please just answer a yes or no question with yes and no first, and explain the why later. Not everyone wants to hear a lecture about biology every single time he/she is watching a new video.

Carson C: This would be so easy to prove and I'm hearing about it all over youtube but nobody is actually showing some hair attached to a person's head that is grey at the end and colored at the root.

ping xia: We produce NMN powders, if anyone is interested, please let me know, thanks.

RexRed - Flock of Angels: Why not just take liposomal NAD?

Aftab Kahn: nice. what brand of nmn are using

ILOVE2FeelGOOD:

Kenneth Marquis: NMN RESEVERATROL B D ZINC C VITIMINS

David G. Johnson: My Grandfather's hair starting turning brown. After so many questions from relatives and neighbors, he finally told his anti-aging secret: shoe polish!

Levon Darratt: Lady on Right has Botox, Fillers (block forehead and duck lips face style )so it's hard to say if she's in her early or late 40ies. And I'm sure she's doing her little laser skin treatments etc...so it's hard to say what NMN does with all the hidden stuff going on.

Hans Ekstrom: I try but after 2 years nothing

Manuel Ojeda: My wife has more black hair than grey.

EBrunetti Brunetti: What is NMN?

Charles Dick: NMN seems like the wrong tool for that job. Gray hair is really not important though. It's just hair. Don't be vain.

Kshitij⁷⁰³⁹⁹⁶⁵⁸³9: Mere baal bahut kam age me hi white hone lage the bahut homeopathy ki dawa khayi but koi farq nahi hua. Fir mujhe kisi ne ek ayurvedic medicine batai maine try kiya to mere baal root se kaale hue.

Thierry Vidal: No.. It cant. I've tried.

Joyce Nesselhauf: At the prices listed in the link, who the hell can afford it?????

Okami Dawg: Is this something that is prescribed say by a naturopath?

Squat Master Productions: Just take a ton of collagen protein ,

David Kelly Mitchell: I like the way she says ummm... telemetry, ummm... She's cute.

mgh H: Women go Gray much later than men. Where level 1 evidence studies

Kenneth Marquis: greens and juicing

Jim Bob: You look very good for 54.

V. Zacarovitch: Red Flag - DoNotAge - this is not a credible company. I purchased product, they added an unapproved charge, they also store your complete credit card on a data base. Move on to a reputable company for product.

Sway P: Much of this is wishful thinking regurgitated from what they have read. Listen to men instead.
