#fabulous50s #LongHairstyles #LongHairOver50

Can women over 50 wear their hair long and, if not, what's the most appropriate age to get it all cut off, Hi I'm Schellea and welcome to fabulous50s. Today, I've got five tips to share with you that will help you work out where the long hair is going to suit you over 50 or whether it's a great time for you to get it cut off. But here's the thing i get so many comments from people about my hair. Some of them say your hair's great, but some of them say: Schellea cut your hair off, it's making, you look so old and it's just people's opinion and i'm okay with that. I don't really mind, but this video is for those people who do mind and who do get offended when people say get your hair cut, and I dedicate this video to a dear friend of mine, who is 74, and she has very long hair down to about. Here it's very fine, she wears a fringe and it's straight and she came to me a couple of months ago and said: Schellea, I'm so stressed out, because everybody wants me to get my hair cut, my family, those are her daughters and her friends are saying you Know you're too old to be wearing your hair. This long and she said it's stressing me because my hair's, my identity, i've had it for my whole life and it makes me feel really good and i love it, and i know that it's thin, and i know that i you can see my building patches, but I don't care, but the pressure from the outside world is really hurting me, so this video is for everybody who's feeling a little bit uncertain the first rule is it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks your hair is about you and your personality. So these tips today are going to help you sort of figure it out a little bit better to help suit your personality, but ultimately do what feels good for you. If you're cutting your hair to please somebody else, like my friends, thinking of doing you'll be unhappy. So they're happy it doesn't make sense and you don't need to do that. So, let's get started with these tips. Two of the tips are formulas, and the other three are tips, and the first tip is a formula, and this formula will help you work out whether long, hair or short hair is going to suit your individual face, and you can take it or leave it. It doesn't matter, this is just good to know. First thing you do is take a photo on your phone directly in front of your face, not up here or down here just directly in front and with that photo get a tape, measure and you're going to measure the photo on your phone and you're going to Measure from across your face to your ears: that's going to be measurement one and measurement two is going to be from the top here to your chin. That'S going to be measurement two, and if your measurement from here to here is less than 1.5 times this measurement, you have a short face, and if your measurement from here to here is greater than this measurement 1.5, you have a long face. So on my photo, this measurement equals three centimeters and this measurement equals a little bit more than five centimeters and using my face as an example for a long face, there are things we can do. So. If you're going to wear your hair long, you can layer it around the face to widen this area to widen out the length and layers are going to do that for me. So, even though my hair is long, it's layered in around the face and another thing you can do, if you have a long face, is you can wear a side, swept fringe or a straight fringe, because what that's going to do is it's going to shorten the Width between here and here and you can do whatever you like it doesn't matter. None of this matters they're just fun tips, but that fringe is helping bring my face in to make it a little bit shorter. If you have a short face, so that's less than 1.5 times the width of your face. You can lengthen your face if you like, by bringing your hair down longer at the sides, so you're going to bring layers down, and it's going to lengthen your face and another thing to help lengthen a short face is by adding height and if you're, from the 80S you're going to love height because you're used to it. That'S all we used to do no matter what shape face you had. So that's great for you. If you have a short face - and you want to play with it and experiment - try adding a bit of height here and a bit of length here so long or short, these rules apply. The second tip is also a formula, and it's really helpful, and this tip is going to help you work out whether you can wear a pixie cut or a very short cut, because not everybody can and the formula is to take the bottom of your ear and Measure from the bottom of your chin and this formula says that if the distance between here and here is less than 5.5 centimeters, a pixie cut is going to suit you. And if it's more than 5.5 centimeters, you might need to add a little bit of length to your hair, and this is so true. You have a look at some photos of women who look amazing with very short pixie cuts and you'll notice. They'Ve got a short distance from here to here, check out these photos and these photos and these photos all these women are short. Have you ever noticed that before, if you're trying to figure out whether it's perfect for you, this formula will really help, and when i was younger, i did get my hair all cut very short and i went to the hairdresser and said i want this haircut. I took a photo and i got the haircut and it looked so wrong on my face. It didn't suit me at all, and all i wanted to do was grow my hair back and that's why it's this length it was too. I had too much chin too much bottom half and the top it didn't match it wasn't in harmony. So hopefully this formula will help you figure out why you look great with a pixie cut or why you don't look so great with a pixie cut. Okay, next tip, my third tip, is about the texture of your hair. If your hair is frizzy, you've got different rules to if your hair is straight and if your hair is thick, you have different rules to if your hair is fine. So, let's start off with frizzy hair like mine, my hair is goes out here when i just wash it and what i do is i let it dry, naturally heat curl it, and then that will last me for a whole week. Just like this, i just brush it and go, and i do my fringe every morning, if i had short hair and my hair was here, i would have this giant big mess every morning to do so. People who say to me get your hair cut short. They don't understand that it would take me an extra hour every day to get my hair right, because when it's long i can put it in a ponytail put it in plaits. Put it in a side pony put it in a bun, it's easy all! I have to do every day is wash my fringe and blow dry it so that for me suits my lifestyle and it suits my personality and that's very different to hair, that's fine and straight so if you've got hair, that's fine and straight you probably want to Go to add volume to it and it's much easier to add volume to shorter hair. In that case, because the longer it is the more it gets pulled down the sort of more fine and straight it's going to appear. Yet when you cut your hair, you can get more volume in it by adding product. So that's a really important point. When other people are telling you what to do, it's got nothing to do with them. It'S got everything to do with your hair, your hair texture, your face, and your personality tip number four is made for women over 50. and this is about matching the texture in your skin with the texture in your hair. So it's perfect for us because we're getting more and more textured as we get older and by texture i mean fine lines and wrinkles sunspots freckles unevenness in our skin. So if we've got all that going on in our face, having a bit of texture in our hair brings harmony to our look and when you're younger and everything's smooth and taut, you can wear your hair perfectly straight and sleek and shiny, and it's just harmonious. But if you've got sleek shiny, hair perfect when you're older there's going to be more of a contrast between the look of your face, the texture and the perfectness of your hair, it looks amazing on some women, but most of us can't get away with it. And that's okay, nature's kind of helping us out here so as we get older and our hair starts to go gray, it becomes more wiry. So when you think about the texture in your face and the texture in your hair being similar, it makes a lot of sense and we can work with that. So how do we get texture in our hair? One way is to cut layers into your hair so that it's not completely smooth - and you can add layers around your face, which is perfect for an aging face. A second way is to add color texture, so two colors is going to give you texture. It'S going to make your hair more voluminous, more textured, so that would look like low lights and highlights like i've got, or you know a little bit of lightning around the face. That'S texture and gray. Hair is also texture. So when you start to grow gray, it's different colors different colors in your hair is texture, but not everybody suits gray, hair and i'm one of them. So people with red hair, don't really look that great, with gray hair people with black hair when they're young look amazing people with heavy eyebrows, dark eyebrows, look amazing with gray hair, but for my coloring, no, it's not going to work for me. So i'm going to keep coloring my hair, because i can and tip number five is to keep bulk at the bottom. If you're going to wear your hair long and what that means is to make sure that all of the split ends are attended too, that you chop them off, because when you've got that fine scrappy hair at the bottom, that's very, very aging. And it doesn't look good on young women either, so we need to keep it trimmed and when you've got that more dense, blunt cut at the bottom, it makes it look thicker and fuller, and my friend this is what i said to her, because she had a Lot of split ends just instead go for a really good trim because it makes your hair look healthy, but here's the tip cut it on the full moon or three days before, and it grows back so much quicker. Now i know many of you will say that is just not true, because your hair's dead down the bottom and yes, i agree with you, but it works. I promise you and you can't say it doesn't work unless you've tried it and if you try it and it doesn't work then you'll know, but if you are going to make the sacrifice and cut it off anyway, you have nothing at all to lose. So to my beautiful friend, with long hair, who's worried and pressured by the whole world to get it cut off, you do you, you feel as good as you can in the hair that you have and just enjoy it and everyone else out. There don't worry about what everybody else says: that's their opinion. If you get your hair cut to make them happy, that's ridiculous and we don't want to be ridiculous. Let me know in the comments below where your hair sits. Does it sit at your bottom hips shoulder length or pixi or anywhere in between, but more importantly, how do you feel about it? Please give a thumbs up if you enjoyed this video and remember to subscribe to fabulous 50s and if you'd like to continue watching, choose either of these videos next for style tips for women over 50.. Thank you so much for watching and have a beautiful day.

Lauren Ash: I say women over 50 have earned the right to do whatever they want ❤️

Bonica Pink Roses: I find hairdressers are always pushing to cut my hair shorter than I like. I always say I want to still be able to tie it back, especially in summer. They inevitably cut too much and then literally scrape it back so tight and say “look you can still tie it back” . I had cancer when I was 48 (now 57) and let me tell you nobody appreciates their hair more than someone who lost it at some point to chemo

Coconut Bay: I’m 63 this month and my Mother’s been telling I was too old for long hair since I was 25 ! My husband and kids love it, it’s in the best condition it’s ever been, so I think I’ll have long hair always. It’s far easier than short hair(which doesn’t really suit my features anyway). Also it’s so versatile- curls, ponytails, buns, plaits, straight. And anyway, my Great Granny had long hair, that was the norm back then. Please yourself, I say. It’s always been my best attribute, so it’s staying !

Mikki39: Ladies, wear your hair anyway You desire. Society telling us how we can dress or wear our hair is ridiculous. Imagine if we walked up to bald older men and told them how to look! Schellea empowers women. Love her!!

Carrie Taylor: I am 55 and have had short hair my whole life. I decided last year to let it grow and last month I got a spiral perm! It's fun and funky and I love it, which is all that matters ❤

Tracey OBrien: I decided to stop cutting my hair short at 55. Now I’m 61 and my hair is lush, wavy and below my shoulders and I love it! ☺️

Lauri Haney: I LOVE this - we're over 50, we can do as we damned well please!!

K Black: We can wear our hair however we want, and I absolutely Love your hair!! I refuse to bow to opinions on what I do or like, my hair is very similar to yours in that it poofs out after washing or in high humidity - it would be a disaster if I had short hair. I completely agree with you...do what you are comfortable with and what you love. Thank you for your wonderful advice. ❤

neoreoscar27: I’m always intrigued/perplexed as to why anyone feels the need to share their opinion about how another other person looks, (especially on the internet!) and even worse - directly to the person concerned. Unless someone specifically asks for your opinion, it’s not your business. There’s no age limit for anything! As long as you’re safe and happy, what does it matter?! X

Nicole Rainville-Camilleri: You’re adorable!!! Soooo….. I love long hair. Last winter, I got a lot cut off and had fun with some short styles. It was fun. But I missed my long hair. Several people told me that when you are older you should wear your hair shorter because if you are short (I’m 5’3” - 1m62), it gives you length. Blah blah blah. I missed my long hair. It’s growing again and YOUR hair is my inspiration! I bought the bringraj and Amla oil and I get it cut around the full moon. I got layers and bangs around my face a few months ago and I LOVE IT!!!! If I’m going to have wrinkles and age spots, (I won’t do Botox or fillers), I’m going to enjoy my hair! Your page is my favorite! Thank you for the sunshine you bring and your incredible beauty!!!

my cute pussycats: Im 50 and have waist length layered hair. I love it! Nobody has said I'm too old yet, and if they did I would tell them where to go lol

Cindy Wiemers: Thank you!! Yes, long hair for older women!!! Mine is 2” past my shoulders and I’m going longer! Thanks so much for your cheerleader spirit for us older women! Love ya, Cindy

Kelly Jones: You have beautiful hair and it looks great on you! DO NOT cut it!!! You've inspired me to grow mine! It's 9 inches long (MUCH shorter than yours!!!)

Anita Williams: I'm not so amazed by the length of your hair as I am at the density of your hair. Most women lose that as they age

Nicole: Thank you, thank you, when will we ever learn to just allow ourselves, to be ourselves to be ourselves

Edie Growden: Thank you, Schellea! Im 53, had hair almost to my waist, I had colored, decided to stop coloring, there's highlights of gray that don't look too bad,. . . I felt pressured to cut it. I've been through chemotherapy and radiation for Breast CA and still on a drug for that. . . So my hair was not super healthy or pretty, but I love doing different braids. It was a big decision to cut it to above my shoulders, but I loved it! It was healthy again. I'm regularly trimming, but looking forward to growing it back out a bit ( I have a round face) to say least below my shoulders and your video is giving me the courage to do me!. . . Not somebody else! Thank you for that!

Sita Nelson: It's a matter of choice surely. If long hair makes one feel great that's what matters! I am growing mine, since the pandemic and I am 72. Xx

Donna Mac: This video made so much sense to me as I have both let my hair go grey and longer in my 60’s. Have wondered if it’s “suitable” for my age and stage but I am really enjoying the change after many years of quite short hair. Thank you for making it ok!

Soapychica: All my life I’ve had short hair. When I retired I let my hair grow and I love it! I feel more feminine and sexy at 62❤️. By the way your hair is absolutely gorgeous!❤️

Louise Alain: Your hair is absolutely gorgeous I’m 67 transitioning 18 months to my natural silver hair and had 4 inches cut off. I still have about 4 inches of blond left. Once it’s all grown in I’m letting it go longer. I don’t care what anybody thinks, it’s my hair, my life. ‍ my hair at the moment is shoulder length

SoulJewlz♍: I have struggled for many years with this, my hair is definitely my identity to a degree and I'm not cutting it..lol I'm 56 and I love my hair..

ReidandShane: I’m so glad you initiated this topic Schellea! I’m 53 and love having my long hair past my waist. One thing that’s missing from this conversation is what hair products work well for long hair. My hair is fine and wavy and I color it. I found Color Extend by Redken shampoo and Mega Sleek by Matrix conditioner works best to keep my hair healthy and shiny and I take vitamins made for skin and hair by Reserveage for fast growth. Would love to hear what other women use on their long hair. Every woman should listen to her intuition regarding her hair and beauty routine. I love being a 50-something ultra feminine lady and I answer to nobody but myself!

Chantal: I love your hair! You style it well. I also have long hair and I am 52 years old and I often wonder this question of how long is too long. Thank you for addressing it.

Pixie's Homestead: I am almost 59 and two years ago I decided to let my hair go grey and long. My hairstylist almost had a fit. I got rid of her and did let it go grey and long, now I get strangers stopping me to tell me they love my hair and how it looks soooo good on me. Do what you want and don't let others run your life, you are in control!

Willo_ 1647: ❤️ .. your so right if you love your hair why should we listen to everyone else.. opinions are just their thoughts but if your comfortable with the way you look and you love yourself as everyone should then it shouldn't Matter what anyone else says. Love n hugs ❤️ I forgot to add my hair is just above shoulder length very curly thick a wirey.. I have quite a round face so I suit mine short or long with the natural curl..my hair looks alot like yours when it's washed but curled frizz lol.. it's not too bad short with it being heavy and my face being more rounded but it's a little more maintenance..

Mandy Kerr: Great advice! And you always remind women that confidence is the number one ingredient to looking fabulous! Use an app to preview styles and get an idea. But I’m still rockin long hair and loving it .. never knew why it worked but with these tips now I do! Thank you.

Freda Learhinan: I'm about to turn 70 and after all the work of short hair I have finally grown my hair to my shoulders and will continue to grow it.. bugger everyone else...this is for me and is so easy to wear now with more choices in hairstyles up down etc love it x

Better Safe Than Sorry: I just had my long hair cut. It now sits right above my shoulders. It looks cute and sassy and I had the rest of my color cut out and am now fully salt and pepper. It really is whatever someone chooses. If they feel good in their hair then it's right for them. I don't think you should cut your hair, it's beautiful and suits you.

Just Breathe with Rachel Greene: Great info! I've got my hair in a Pilates bun most of the time but do have it quite long. Thanks for answering these questions and supporting your friend.

Katherine Wold: Thanks so much for the tips!!! I knew the *80's styles looked better on me* and now I know why...it was the shoulder length gentle wave with a high & low light weave. But my naturally *fine hair is now also really thin (after chemo)* so I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I can still do color from a prof. stylist (or does color do even more damage to the hair?) but *I don't know how to style it anymore,* my pony is now the thickness of a pencil instead of a big fat marker. I'll start looking at cuts with all of these tips in mind...you are a wonderful friend (even though we'll never meet in person.) Thank you Shellea : D

A.: I'm 52 and I'm not going to cut my hair short. I've always believed that, in general, short hair makes older people look old i.e.,Blanche from the Golden Girls was actually in her 50's; compare her looks with Jennifer López, 51 . Huge difference!

Lady J Sunshine: Great video . Spectacular comments. I will be 59 this month. When I was about 40 I wanted a pixie cut but had never had really short hair. I showed a photo of what I wanted to my Mom. Her reaction was priceless...she looked at me then the picture then at me & quite seriously said "But you'd have to be pretty to have short hair". Yep. Who knew ?! My hair is down to my knees now . Not only did I not get that pixie, I just stopped getting it cut. I trim it myself. It's healthy, it's many colours on its own from blond to brown to gray & sun streaked . I would cut it off to donate it if someone asked but, like your friend , it is part of who I am. Thank you SO much for your videos.

Sonia Thompson: Shelly you're Gorgeous it's a personal preference how you have your hair I've had hair extensions and I love them !♡ I'm 51 feeling fabulous thank you Shelly I work out with you every morning on your YouTube videos. Xxx

France Clémence Fradet: I have thick curly hair cut into a shoulder-length shag and I LOVE IT. I'm 53 with a chubby face. But the haircut is so flattering. I can literally jump out of bed, finger-comb it, and forget it. I can add diamante clips for going out to dinner. I'm growing out the dye and enjoying going salt and pepper. A fringe skimming the eyes is very sexy indeed. I have to wear huge earrings though or they don't get noticed! But a shag cut for curly hair is just so cool on older women, and low-maintenance.

Andrea Anderson: I've just started growing my hair back, and I'm getting lots of positive comments and I'm 54 this week, and Im loving my longer hair (its only shoulder length) Thank you for this vid, its perfect timing!

Katherine Richardson: THANKS!! I love your tips for me. I've always wanted long hair when I was young, and it wasn't until I was 60 that I let my hair grow. Now that I am 72, my steel-gray hair length is in the middle of my back. No regrets!

maliha mansoor: As we age we lose volume in hair, keeping them short adds body, but then I feel it should vary from person to person. For me the borderline is shoulder length; in either case

Shelly Greenan: As a stylist, as long as you can carry the long hair and it compliments your face shape etc, age does not matter! Never cut your hair because someone pressures you! SHELLY is correct

Sharon Loria: I have curly hair and it has been changing so much since I’m getting older. I recently cut it all off because I was so unhappy with the dye job, the current cut & the health of my hair. I felt I needed to “start all over again” I love the formulas you gave, those were so interesting. I really enjoy your content and genuine enthusiasm.

peller: I lE this video! I have long hair and I was just contemplating the hair debate! My boyfriend loves my king dark hair. We are both over 50 and workout as a lifestyle. So keeping “ healthy” all the way around is important for us. I love your tips and formulas! Thank you! And I love your long hair~ you wear it well!

Robin Mavis: Thank you for this video. My mother made me feel so bad because when I turned 40 she said I should cut my hair because long hair is only for young people. I kept my long hair and now I'm 54 and still have long hair and get lots of comments on it..positive comments. This week my daughter who is a cosmetoligist is going to transition me to silver - so I will re-evaluate the length, but won't feel pressured to cut it if I don't want to - there are so many beautiful women over 50 with long silver hair. I'm super excited to see what happens this week!

Teresa Fino: I'm almost 62 and love my shoulder to mid length hair. All one length with gorgeous silver strands at the front. It's so easy to style in different ways and I love it. Couldn't be happier. And as you said Schellea, do what makes you happy!

Christa Campbell: Thank you for the tips. I am 52 and have long blonde hair passed my shoulders. I love it and can wear it however I feel for the day. I had damage to my hair a few years ago due to my hair dresser at the time. We raise children, hold important jobs, take care of everyone..why can't we just feel good about what hairstyle we feel is right for us? Thank you as always for your tips!

Carrie Patino: Thank you so much for clarifying! I have long blonde hair like yours, it frizzes after washing ( it got curlier after my children were born) and I love being able to braid my hair. You helped me so much since I've been debating.

Linda M: Schellea, you hair is beautiful, like you. I have finally realized, at nearly 60, I do not have to be concerned about what others think about me or my life. What a weight lifted!! I carried the weight of approval of others my whole life. No more! I just cut my hair quite short, and I will grow out or maybe not. Love your videos, and your encouraging words. ❤️

Jen Raphael: Thank you for the hair tips. I'm 64 and have always had thin blond hair. For about 20 years I had a pixi cut but was envious of my friends who had long thick hair. I now have grown my hair to my shoulders and I've bought one of those new cordless curlers and my wave stays in for days. So glad I grew it. By the way, my family always said I needed to keep my hair short.

Pee Kaaa: I absolutely LOVED your tips Schellea!! I get told all the time to cut my hair. It’s fine and thin. My face is long, amd my hair reaches an inch or 2 below my shoulders. These tips helped me decide what will suit my face- shape and texture Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Truth Only: I really liked this one. It really does work!! Trimming hair on or 2 days before a full moon works. My hair was a mess. The ends were splitting and it started to lose length. I figured I'd have to accept a shoulder length look; no product was working Then started to full moon trim. I trimmed the first 2 months, then skipped the 3rd, then trimmed and skipped and trimmed the next 2 months, then skipped.... it took about 4 months to start noticing a little change but after about about 9 months I really noticed massively fuller hair and longer. The splitting stopped. It doesn't help my dry wirey feel, wavey wirey, but the shape does look better while being dry and wirey. I have to oil the heck out of the ends, which is always a too-little // too-much ordeal; then I'm using a towel to blot the excess oil, or a dry spray shampoo. Try the bathrobe hair tie curl to find a wave that works. It's a better option than an iron and holds longer. Regardless of the directions the videographer demonstrates I found more success if my hair is only slightly damp, spray with water and a curling set spray, then roll in the bathrobe tie. I have thick hair so if the hair is too wet it won't dry through the night. Use a thicker robe tie, or sew 3 or 4 ties together to get a bigger wave. The hair is shinier with this technique. The next morning a little holding spray to fix the curl. If it's too tight just add a light oil to soften the wave. If it's too loose then tighten the hair twist motion a little tighter next time. I just saw a demo of a woman using a long thick foam instead of bathrobe ties and her hair was more like waves on the lower 1/3 of her length. The foam looked store bought. I saw a demo using socks. The thickness of the product depends on the look you're going for. Definitely easier than curling iron imo.

Sandra: I am 66 years old. I have been keeping my hair some inches past my shoulders until a few weeks ago. Because I have been growing out my dyed hair for the last two years and I was so close to having it all gone, I cut a few inches off. It is a bit past my shoulders now. I want to grow it out a little more though, because some hair falls out when I pull my hair up in the back. Hair length isn’t just about age. It also involves the vibe we give off. I have tried all lengths and styles of hair over the decades. I am very comfortable leaving it past my shoulders. It suits me. I like your comment about the texture of the hair matching the texture of the skin, making the look harmonious. I never dyed my hair until I was about 58 years old. Even then I did not have a lot of grey hair. But a few years ago I developed a horrid allergic reaction to a substance in the hair dye. So I am back to my natural color. I feel about my grey hairs as you said about the texture. It has created harmony in my appearance. I actually love the grey hairs that I have. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!

CelticBearWoman: Superior, sensible advice. Thank you! Loved your formulas. My hair is waist length and I am almost 63 yrs old. I self- trim within 2 days of the approaching full moon and Yes, it works!

Susan Nelson: I’m glad I came across your video. You gave some great tips and I’m glad you are not judgmental. I’m 72 and have not cut my hair in a few years and a lot of that was due to pandemic restrictions. My hair is armpit length and like yours it is frizzy if I don’t tame it, however, I can wear it in so many different styles and my husband likes that I can. Recently, I have been thinking of getting it cut but I waiver back and forth on a decision. I went through chemo when I was 45 & it was traumatic losing hair. I’m going to think about it some more.

Touch of Class: I am 62 years young and I have had long hair for the majority of my life. My hair is below my waist and in good condition and I have absolutely NO intention to ever cut it again lol other then a trim to the ends when needed!! Great video! xo Debbie

Deb Clements: 68 years old - my hair is the longest it’s been since high school. I get so many compliments on my hair..from perfect strangers too! I do admit I have very thick, healthy hair - I don’t see me cutting it anytime soon!

Belinda Shanle: Great tips. I have had long, short, mid length hair and keep going back to long. My face shape can go with most styles but do get more compliments saying I look younger with long hair, which is so much easier and I am almost 60. Agree there is a lot to look at with what hair length and style will suit you but it's mostly what you feel best in.

kim harrison: Since I have lost my hair to chemo 7 years ago I have said I will never let it grow past my shoulders. But, when at one time had short hair I realized that short hair requires more makeup. Loved the video

Miss M: All my life I’ve wanted and had long hair - except that one time I had it all chopped off. Big mistake! I didn’t feel right, so I grew it all out again, and haven’t wavered. I’m 178cm tall, not slender by any means, but I keep my straight fine hair about twice as long as my face, with a middle part and a straight fringe. It’s easy for me to maintain, and I love the variety of styles at that length. I too cut my hair just before the full moon (but I cut my fringe after it - it slows the regrowth quite a bit). I have been inspired by your lovely locks. I once had a spiral set (like another person commented) when I was young. I loved it, so I’ve been thinking about having it layered. When our hairdressers open up, I think I’ll give it a whirl. Thank you for being such a positive and understanding inspiration to us golden girls.

Brenda Muller: Thank you so much for doing this video Schellea!! I’ve received the same remarks that you have about my hair. People either love it or are telling me to cut it and it’s not nearly as long as your beautiful hair. I really wish I could grow mine as long as yours but I have thyroid problems and it takes forever for my hair to grow! The tips you gave regarding your facial measurements and texture are spot on!! People wanted me to straighten my curls and the sleek, smooth style looked hideous on me! LOL! I’m going to try your suggestion of getting my hair trimmed on a full moon and maybe I will have better luck with my hair growing faster!

Shanie: I agree with you, it's your hair you wear it how you want. I've got very fine hair and now that I've stopped dying it, it is thicker and much longer because of Covid. I was always getting told when I was younger " you should cut your hair shorter". The problem is, if it's shorter and I can't tie it up it tickles my face and drives me crazy. I'm happy with my longer hair and it's staying.

Brewster: Thank you for this video! I too am a bit older & love my long hair with bangs. With my height, broad shoulders & well-proportioned figure, long hair looks good. I had a pixie all through my childhood in the '60's & vowed that when I could choose, I'd keep my hair long. Now it's below my bra strap. I keep it trimmed, clean, conditioned & make sure the white spot on one side of the bangs is colored. If I'm active I put it in a bun on top of my head. When I take down the bun, it has beautiful body. My hair is healthier & thicker than many of my friends. In the 80's I was told that the Alice in Wonderland look wouldn't cut it at work. Now people compliment me on my hair. I'm glad so many women of a certain age now choose to keep their hair long!

Kathy Craig: Thank you Schellea. Your channel is a gentle inspiration. I am 64 and I decided about 1-1/2 years ago to let my hair grow until I retire which will be next spring Lord willing. It has reached the top of my bra strap. I have a kind of long face and high forehead so I have had bangs for decades. Whenever I have tried to grow them out I have not been happy. I love having it longer and learning about how to take care of it. Things I should have learned over the years but am only learning now. I might even try to reach waist length after I retire. It is fine, thin, straight and naturally light blond varying from platinum to ashy. I have never dyed it and it has not greyed yet. I haven't used heat on it since I decided to grow it. I am going for getting about an inch trimmed off every 6 months so as to get rid of layers (layers were a bad idea with longish thin hair) and working toward a blunt one length cut. I am learning new buns and braids, things I never tried when I was younger. It has been about 20 years since it was this long. Love the silk pillowcase. I never would have thought of it. We recently went on a long tiring trip and I left my favorite pillow with the silk pillowcase in the hotel room! They wanted $50.00 to mail it so I just bought a new silk pillowcase (which was less than $50.00) and hope someone else will enjoy the one I left. I have never felt pressure to cut my hair. I think I just cut it in the past because I never knew what to do with it. I think its a shame that so many women do feel pressure to cut it or style it certain ways. Its almost like its a punishment for having the audacity to live so long! God bless you and all the lovely kindred spirits who enjoy your channel.

Angelika Kopek: My hair is similar to yours….long but frizzy! I curl it and it stays for days and “I think” it’s beautiful! I get SO many compliments from strangers on my hair but my mother has been telling me to cut it my whole life!! It’s not even as long as yours….probably 2-3 inches shorter, it’s just very thick and so it looks longer. Same as you, I cut my hair short when I was 28 and I hated it…..that is what made me look SOOOO much older! Thanks for doing this video and giving me the confidence in my decision to leave my hair alone; I feel like it’s my biggest asset!

Leisl Keitley: Do what makes you happy, whether you dye your hair, or have hair extensions, or wear your hair short or long. You don’t need to ask this question on YouTube to make a decision. Only you can answer this

ReginaRibaudo: I love this video, as long as it’s healthy, I say keep what you can! I’m not cutting mine. I’m an 80 s girl.

Gina Torrey: I'm 57 and I get my hair trimmed every six weeks. My fine, thin hair currently sits below my shoulders and has layers. I've noticed recently that the shorter layers seem to frame my oval face nicely, and am taking steps to gradually shorten the length to just below my chin...aka, a long, layered bob. I think I'll like it, but that's why I'm doing it gradually.

Jennifer McLeod: Thank you for this video. I’m 65 and hopefully getting married late October with lockdown restrictions easing in NSW Australia. I normally have shoulder length hair but have been growing it out so I can wear a messy bun updo for the wedding. My hair is strawberry blonde, fine, but lots of it and frizzy unless tamed. I’m seriously contemplating leaving it long after the wedding as I love that the weight of the hair somewhat pulls out the frizz and that I have the options of pulling my hair up.

cnD64: Your hair looks beautiful, you wear it well & it actually makes you look younger! Besides, times have changed, what used to be the norm is outdated. I'm 56, me & my friends around the same age all wear our hair long & it looks great! You won't see any of us wear it short anytime soon.

Janet Santoro: I’m a hairstylist and I never tell people how they should wear their hair. My rule is whatever makes them happy. I am over 60 and my hair is about 2 inches past my shoulders. It’s frizzy wavy and has been since I was a teenager, and my face is oblong, but it use waves and a longer fringe to make it look it’s best. Most of my customers do not know my age, which is just fine by me! I recently went back to a shag cut because it’s back in style and always was my best look! Great tips in this video! Thank you!

Elle: A long time ago I had a hairdresser that told me once I was reached age 50 years old, I should cut it short. - I got rid of her. - I found a good, quality hairdresser that gives me a quality cut and color every single time. - She also listens to me, and let's me keep it long. - I'm still with her.

Anita S: I’m 63 and the shorter above my shoulders my hair gets, the older I look. I always keep my hair longer than shoulder length. I love it!

Michelle Udell: People should do what they are comfortable with. Personally, from my experience, I’m 52, and my hair has aged. Not as shiny and takes a plethora of hair products to make it look young and healthy. For me, I keep my hair a little above shoulder length. I feel like my hairstyle at this length keeps me looking younger.

SuperCurly1234: You can't please everyone, you do you x

Maryann Spicher: I had mine cut to shoulder length a few months ago and you’re right, it takes so much more work to get it to look nice. A.I just don’t have that kind of time and B. With shoulder and wrist pain, it’s been awful! I don’t think people think of how painful it can actually be for older women to fix their hair when it’s shorter! I’m so glad it’s growing back!

julie werner: Thank you so so much, I am definitely saving this clip for future reference it’s given me so much confidence to wear my hair how it makes ME happy.. The tips are perfect PS I’m close on a young 60 with shoulder length hair like yours but darker….thanks again from Jules

Trish Bech: You’re so right!!!!! Very helpful tips!!! You are gorgeous girl! Wear it how it suits you not to please other people! ♥️ Thank you for encouraging other women in a world where many are so competitive and down right vicious at times. By the way, 80’s girl here haha I can so relate … big hair baby! Lol I also remember desiring short hair like my mother, who looks fabulous in short hair; however, I looked horrible in short hair. It was flat and fine and straight and it looked terrible with my full face. I totally agree with the scenario you were talking about! Shoulder length is my usual length sometimes a bit longer if I feel like a change. Colour experimenting instead of cutting is my go to for change as well.

Norma Jean Shepherd: This coming up more and more! I have long layered hair about 2-3” shorter than yours. I cut and layer my own hair and I love it. It can be a lot of work, and how I wish I COULD wear short hair, I don’t feel good in it. I am 66. I also color my hair. My natural color is auburn, so just like you said, I look terrible with gray hair. How I wish I could wear that to, but I don’t like it on me. You have beautiful hair and I loved all your tips. You are like a breath of fresh air♥️keep us straight

N BC: I loved this video. Thank you. I'm 52 and currently have a pixie cut. Recently cut from below shoulder length. It feels so freeing to have a big haircut. It helped me to feel a proper transition out of COVID. Ready to move forward with the world. So positive with new haircut! Next week I am going to have some bleach treatment with lavender highlights. I have a dramatic change every 4 years or so. It is hilarious to see how it alters peoples perception of you. Quite funny really. They suddenly see you as being young and fun. I just remind them that actually I am the same as yesterday and it is only their view that has changed!!!

Valerie Bassett: I'm in my very early 70's. Sometimes I braid my hair, sometimes down, and sometimes I twist it and hold it in back with a clip. I have been told by people that they like my hair braided, others say I need to cut it. I agree with you that, people tell you what they like. Some don't like long hair. Love your advice on this. The only time I get my hair cut is to donate it to kids with cancer.

Dawn Cerise: Absolutely Correct on the Full Moon cut <3 Age 57 with fine, abundant but thinning, wavy hair to my waist, should trim about 3 inches, though. Long face with long hair all my life... or at least since I could decide for myself. Thank you for these wonderful tips and facts, every lady should know!!!

Vixen LaRue: Ladies.... just cut and colour how you want! I was wearing my hair to please everyone around me, then I realized I needed to be true to myself and went from long to a fauxhawk and dyed it bright pink. It was liberating and remember, when someone judges you, it says more about them than it does you. Be authentic to you and you will shine..

Kristan M: Wow, such a wonderful commentary on how to be beautiful on the outside and on the inside. That's why YOU are so adorable and beautiful. Thank you for always being a voice for women everywhrere on how to love who we are at any age! I am 61. Because of the pandemic, as well as other issues, I have allowed myself to go gray. My original color was very dark brown (almost black). I have colored my hair for many years before, sometimes reds and other highlights. I have decided to let my hair be long and gray. I pull it back, in pony tails, in a bun, and sometimes let it be long. I haven't even cut it since February of 2019. It's past my shoulders now. I think I will eventually get the ends cut and follow your advice. Thank you so much!!

Brenda Wrisley: Ok ....you wear your hair the way it makes you feel LIKE YOURSELF. Period. I am 71 and wear my hair to my shoulders and poofy...see my pic. It isn't right for people to shame others. You do you!

Agnès dP: Your hair looks gorgeous, and it suits you very well. Thanks a lot for these great tips. I've also noticed that if I let my hair too long on the sides (I have curly, thick and frizzy hair) they tend the lengthen my face which is already long, so it makes me look tired and older. If I add a few layers on the side, I look instantly better. Now I understand why with these few math tricks you gave us. Very easy and practical.

Jody Mead: It's totally ok to have your hair how you want it! Schellea! Your hair is beautiful!! I've always had long hair, right now it's about as long as yours and I'll be 61 on the 14th. I agree that you have so much more you can do with it. Thanks for the tips!

Alisa Guttadauro: I'm 53 and I love my long hair. You look great, who cares what anyone else thinks! I think it's the jealous people who tell others what to do. Do what makes YOU happy!

Agie Govender: Loved this and thank you. I only disagree with you about grey/gray hair. Natural hair change in colour and texture is part of the aging process and women who embrace this colour look softer and amazing. Still loved your video

Jo Ann Thompson: Long hair sometimes makes a woman look like she’s trying too hard to stay young. A hairstylist told me that she believed 90% of women need a different style! There’s nothing flattering about a gal with long gray hair or someone like Demi Moore who wears her hair in a teenagers style- parted in the middle & down to her waist.

Yvonne Engelbrecht: I am nearly 56. My hair is long and straight to my hips. I recently coloured my hair blonde. For the last few years was growing out my natural grey but as you say the texture and colour dis not suit my younger personality. The blonde definitely softens my face and I get compliments wherever I go. My hair is my signature. Cannot see myself cutting it off. I also love the fact that I can experiment with different styles everyday. Thanks for this fantastic video. You surely made my day... ⚘❤xxx

Nancy Jones: Thank you for addressing this topic. I cut my hair to deal with menopausal hair loss and hot flashes, but I didn’t look like ME. I’m growing it back out and embracing my grey. BTW it’s no one else’s business anyway!

luv2dance: I have been getting my hair cut within 3 days of the full moon for probably 25 years or more. The main thing I notice is I usually get a better cut also, or it’s my imagination love your video’s thank you for sharing

Kerry Duggan: Love that I found this channel! Your tips have all been so helpful but mostly your support for women in our age group looking and feeling their best means so much

elaine hyatt: Thank you so much Schellea! You are an inspiration to us all. I am a true redhead and plan to continue being one until I can no longer be. . You’re page is my favorite and makes me feel special. By the way I am 65 with below shoulder length hair. Everyone compliments me on my hair.

Susan Belair: I’m 67 and love my waist length hair! I’m always getting compliments which is nice, but to me it’s a look I’ve loved since the 70’s and makes me happy. i really don’t care what others think about it. Thank you for speaking out! And tell your friend to let her freak flag fly!

Donna Walmsley, Work your Wardrobe, Style over 40!: Great info, Schellea, you always look stunning! I’m here for my long hair .. I add extensions these days, as it’s just not so thick after breast cancer treatment, unfortunately.. Thank you for sharing! ‍♀️❤️

teresa galuppo: Im 53 and my hair is almost to my waist. I wear it straight or curly. I wear it up or down. I love the length and the shine. I won't change for anyone or adhere to any "over 50" rules. Thank you Shelly for your tips on face shapes and hair styles. Love your work out routines by the way. I do them almost every night!!!

Kay McCullock: Thank You! Great advice. I'm 52 in November. Have had all kind of crazy hairstyles from completely bald to mohawk to sitting on my hair n crazy 1980-90 styles... the one I keep coming back to is long to my boobs lol no one should ever tell another what to do with their hair.

Taunya Wren: Thanks. Great tips. I appreciate your insight & I agree. My hair is longish normally but right now is just passed my shoulders. I have fine hair that use to be straight. Now I have some waves sometimes depending on the weather! And a few greys that are a different texture. I too enjoy wearing my hair up in a bun. I wash it every day and let it air dry in the bun. I use a leave in conditioner on mid lengths to ends. In the summer. However in the winter this does not work as well. I have to blow dry it when it’s cold. I try to focus on the roots drying and the rest only partially blow dry. The same concept with the bun and or ponytail gives definition, to help with my frizz. On you I think trimming up to actually where your shirt line is would be enough to give you that fresh look. Yes I think you could do more layers around your neck because it’s longer than mine. I think you should try internal layers! They are great at taking out bulk which can exasperate frizz . You don’t notice the layers because they are underneath!

CoCo Bell: I'm single and happy in my mature years..I've had my very long hair cut to just over my shoulders with highlights for the first time..I never felt so good about myself as I'm getting older..care not what people think it's non of their business...keep the maintenance going and your good to go! You'll get compliments I'm telling you

Marianna: I've had long hair most of my life and now at age 71 and with grey streaks all the way through I have no plans to change it. However I am booking in to get the split ends cut!!! Yours is fabulous!!!

sfviris: This came at such a good time for me. Your formula and advice have been very helpful as I’ve been contemplating getting a pixie.

Sheri R: WOW, this was so helpful, thank you so much for taking the time to make and share this with us!!!
