What'S good everybody thank you for tuning in to today's video. I am so excited to have you here, because i don't know if you could tell, but i really, i really need a haircut and to do that, i am going to be sharing a technique. That is not the unicorn haircut. I would never do the unicorn haircut on my hair, not on this texture and not on this length, not unless i actually wanted to sport a mullet, but we're gon na save that for another decade, look i'll just show you. What would happen so here we are, i'm gon na place another little elastic where it would be cut, i'm actually not gon na cut it. I'M going to color it, though, to show you what it would look like. So i'm gon na apply some hair makeup and i'm gon na apply it in ruby red, because red means no red means stop. So now that we have this visual everything, that's red is what would have been cut off. You can see. Most of the length would have been taken off my bang section, which happens to be the tightest curliest part of my head, as well as already the shortest part and proving my point that it would be a literal mullet, a short party in the front. But in the back, oh lord, lord, had i cut my hair the unicorn way my hair would be cut in all the wrong places, because i wasn't taking into consideration my hair length where i wanted my layers to sit and my curl pattern. So this would have been a nightmare so for those of you who don't know who i am welcome, i am your main girl mel. I am actually a trained professional hair stylist and a curly hair specialist, so stay tuned for an all new approach to the diy. At home haircut and without further ado, let's cut into it before we begin cutting here are some things you will need sharp scissors. Hair ties, hair clips, a comb, a detangling brush, a cape or garbage bag may work a spray bottle to stay hydrated styling products to pop your curls, a good attitude and a pat on the back, because you're doing great sweetie. You made it this far. Now, let's figure out if this haircut is actually going to suit you and your hair type, and to do that, i'm going to share a quick hair analysis. This lovely hair of mine that you see right here is fine, textured, medium to high density, a 3b to 3c curl pattern high porosity. If you look closely, you can see that the tips are splitting, which is why they look so frayed, and i also have a lot of single strand knots now. These characteristics of my ends, of course, are normal because it has been four months since my last haircut, which is a haircut. I also incorporated into a video which i used to explain if you should do a dry curl by curl haircut or a wet haircut depending on your needs, and i had showed the difference between a dry cut and a wet cut. If you haven't seen that video, i suggest you add it to cue, because it will answer your question of why today i will be doing a wet haircut and for now i i'm gon na go ahead and wash my hair in this video. I partnered with curlsmith to bring you guys some of my favorite products and routine. Now my hair is pretty dry and my scalp is pretty itchy. It'S also a little bit flaky. It'S gross we're not gon na. Look too close, so i'm gon na use the three-step scalp recipe line from curlsmith because they're some of my favorite products to use when i need a nice good, scalp treatment. I know my ends are going to be so happy after this haircut, but i want my scalp to be happy too, because healthy hair starts from the scalp and i'm also going to hydrate with a deep conditioner on my ends. To give my curls a little extra love alrighty, so i'm washed and ready, and actually just before i begin to make the process easier. I will be applying a leave-in conditioner to my hair, i'm going to go ahead and do that this one is the weightless air dry cream is a leave-in conditioner from curlsmith, and for those of you who don't know this is one of my favorite leave-in conditioners. It is uh, it's just the slip, the smell the performance, it's amazing, and it gives me just the slip i'm gon na need because we'll be brushing through a lot we'll be brushing the hair a lot so keep it detangled keep it hydrated. We always want to begin this process by parting, our hair, where we usually want to part our hair. I, like you, know a little off-center side, part so right. There works for me and i'm also going to section away my bangs. As i mentioned, my bangs are super super tight curls, so i want to make sure that i cut them separately to make sure that i cut them correctly and shape them for how i want them to sit. So i'm going to hold my scissors i'll, be placing my ring finger and my thumb in my dominant hand through the holes and then use my pinky and other fingers to stabilize the scissors. Just like that, and all the cutting happens from my thumb - and i don't want to be cutting my bangs too short, so i'm only going to be trimming the little tips off, but i want them to be shorter in the front and longer on the sides. So i'm going to split the section at my part and one side at a time i'm going to completely comb and over direct the bangs. All the way to the opposite side see how these pieces are falling out. That'S okay, because i want them to be longer and i want to trim right in there good bye, oh my god. This is going to feel so good now i'll be doing the same thing on the other side, placing the comb at the root and following through with my fingers, right behind, drag it all the way over and clip that tip. I can see the split ends, beauty and the beast so to make sure that my sections are even i will take hairs from the top and measure these are even i know that they're, even because i cut the same amount off of each of them when they Were wet and i will check for evenness again once they're dry, because again, these curls are super tight and i want to make sure that they're going to sit right once they spring back up, so we're going to leave it at that. I'M going to rehydrate these with some water and clip it away now. This is where everything changes and things get specific. So, first, what i've done is i made sure that i split my hair evenly down the middle. I had two equal sized sections, keep in mind that the point of adding layers to your hair is to remove weight, and it also helps to enhance the natural tendencies of your hair, because it is not so heavy weighing down on itself. So here i have two hair ties placed in different sections of my head, which are going to give me completely different. Layering results. A ponytail down here is not going to create much layering because cutting here, no top layers are going to be cut shorter. However, cutting all the way up here is going to create more layering on top and not take too much off of the bottom. So the higher you lift your hair, the more weight you're going to be removing the shorter layers on the top section you're going to be having. If i keep my sections in the middle of my head, i will create a nice rounded shape that won't take too much weight off of the top and also will take enough off of the bottom. So it's not heavy. I also place this just behind my ear, not too close to my hairline, not too close to the back. This is going to keep all the layers pretty, even if i put this ponytail all the way up to my hairline, it's going to be shorter in the front and longer in the back. If i put my ponytail all the way to the back, it's going to be shorter in the back and longer to the front so right in the middle, i'm going to keep it nice, and even i'm also going to keep my section very smooth, hold the tip And cut the ends, you ready i'm a little scared, because i've never done this, but i know it will work because that's just how layering works just like that that was so hard. It wasn't so scary, it's funny and i'm going to do the exact same thing on the other side and of course i want to make sure it is very smooth when i am brushing so following through the brush just gathering the hair when putting the ponytail in You don't want to twist and turn the hair too much just twist the elastic to keep everything in its place. Also, i took about an inch off if you couldn't tell i'm taking the exact same amount off of this side that wasn't so hard going in with the same technique to measure, and it all feels great feels very even to me we'll see what that looks like When it's dried but before i do that, i cut the layers. I want to make sure that i cut the perimeter, so i'm going to snip my ends and make sure that they got some love. My hair is still in half so one half at a time. I'M going to be turning my head and brushing my hair forward in front of my chest. If i kept my head straight and brush all this hair forward, it's going to make the front shorter and the back longer, which will give you a rounded v-shape. But i don't want it to be a super sharp v. I want it to be a softer you, so i'm going to turn my head off to my shoulder brush. All of this hair make sure i'm holding it smooth down, not tilting my head pinch, your finger behind your brush or your comb as we've been doing and follow through until right, where you want to. I already applied a leave-in and prepped my hair, but i'm going to put a little bit more because after all that brushing and everything again the weightless air dry cream, just the touch now i'm going to apply my styling product, the hold me softly style, balm from Curlsmith as well, this is a curl defining cream. Just like that. Don'T tell anybody, but this is my sister's. She will kill me because this is her holy grail and after any haircut. I want to proceed with styling, how i normally wear it. So i can see how it's going to look 95 of the time, so i'm styling with a denim brush to define my curls. As always, this is the d3 seven row and now that i've defined my curls, i'm going to hold all that together by applying my gel. This is the hydro style, flexi jelly from curlsmith as well, and now i'm gon na go ahead and diffuse as normal. Of course, following the hover diffuse technique, toodaloo off to diffuse, okay, wait before i pull back, i don't even think they're gon na believe this, but look how good and fresh my hair looks i'm so happy with it. It looks great, but now it's time for the finishing touches. This is where we get to add a little bit of flair, a little personality to the haircut and also do any touch. Ups like what is this: where is this? Coming from yeah we're just going to dry cut that away, i will turn my head and fluff out my hair and make sure it is all sitting where it should falling straight down and cut into the face frame, and this part is totally optional. You might not even have to touch up any curls, but if you do have multiple different patterns in your hair, this is the best time to add a little bit of refining to even everything out and if there's any curls that seem out of place to you. Just go ahead and trim those tips off, and i think i think i'm done. I do want to mention that it is a common thing that some people's hair kind of freaks out a little bit after a haircut sometimes it needs a couple - washes to settle in. So if it's not looking like it's usual curl, then don't refine it just yet wait for the curls to bounce back and you can dry, cut and refine it. Whenever anytime, you see a random curl sticking out. The thing is like a hedge, you know just literally trim it like a hedge, and that pretty much concludes today's video. You know you do not have to cut your own hair at home, but if you want to - and since i know a lot of you are going to anyways now - you have another option. Of course, there's so many different ways to cut your hair. You do not have to use this technique, but if you do you have to tag me in your photos, please also, oh my god. I guess i should give this haircut a name. I guess we're going to call it. The pigtails cut so hashtag pigtails haircut and tag me in your looks. If you like videos like this, then do check out the unicorn haircut. I shared on my sister's hair for long hair and wavier textures. Everything will be linked below, as well as the products that i use, because can you just take in this? The wash is amazing, honestly anytime, i do a full curlsmith wash day it never disappoints. This has been your main girl mel and i will see each and every one of you each and every week with a brand new video peace. Are you still here? Basically, if you made it this far, i want to say how special you are to me and how much you mean to me also if you're watching this the day. The video goes, live it's probably july 21st and my birthday is july 22nd, so say nice things to me, and i just want to say that now that i'm 23 years old - and i just i couldn't even like i wouldn't be - i wouldn't be here without you - I wouldn't even i wouldn't i just i may have to redo the entire ending. I don't know what do you think wow, i'm melting, i'm starting to melt again, i'm starting to melt again. Can you see it? My makeup looks like crap. Now i i'm sweating ready and begin i'm just gon na do the very beginning, one more time: it's a disaster um. Should i get botox for my 23rd birthday, absolutely not because then i wouldn't be able to do any of this. Who would i be not me? This is why i have fine lines. This is why this is kind of scary. I look like something out of freaking pirates of the caribbean. I look like that. Octopus guy. This is a pretty color, because does this suit me not today, not today, brb, i'm not peeing. It'S the water, hey, stop collaborate and listen! It'S too hot! That'S cold! That'S cold though, but that's cold! Now now it's good! Now, let's shut that off. For a second, have you ever showered with your makeup on, so you have to completely avoid your face. Oh my god, it's like i love showering with my makeup on it's so much fun, i'm gon na refill. Soon i should bring my sponge in the shower with me to just get the content where's, my beauty, blender, someone needs their roots done now. The only thing we have to do is add the sorry chairs squeaky horns. It'S like a it's a it's a piggyback. What do we call this haircut? Nope? Absolutely not! I need you to answer your phone amanda, hello, hi. Thank you. So much for answering this time, don't be rude. I'M trying to think of a name for this haircut. That'S what i was yeah. I guess! Oh, i guess it's. The pigtail cut: okay, okay, bye,

Yasmeen Ahmed: THE FACT THAT I WAS JUUUUST ABOUT TO DO THE UNICORN METHOD AND YOU SAVED ME

T M: The red dye demonstration was really eye-opening!

Teresa Whalen: I took the plunge and did this cut. As soon as I got done, I started crying! I have RARELY had a good experience with a professional cut and haven't been to a salon in almost 10 years. I have never cut my hair myself other than trimming my bags. I had tons of dead hair on the ends and I cut off quite a bit! (4-6 inches in some places.) My hair was really long, but not pretty. The end result of changing how i care for and style my hair and then doing this cut was totally transforming! My hair now frames my face beautifully and my hair is curling so nicely without all that dead weight at the bottom. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm over 50 years old and have never loved my hair as much as I do right at this moment.

Stephanie Mountain: Why did my hair look better after doing this, than after a $100 hair cut?

Oddly Sweet Dolls: THANK YOU! I just gave myself a $150 haircut on my own and how I’ve actually always wanted it cut and layered. This was so easy to follow. My hair was down to my butt and unlayered due to Rona. Now I have the cut I’ve always wanted. Thank you! All my volume is back. Big hair don’t care! ^_^

Davonne V: Oh my goodness I did it lol.,.,. I thought it was going to look horrible but it’s actually looks nice lol,. My curls are soo bouncy ., thanks to you Mel. Happy birthday.,.!

Maria Raluca Guzu: I tried this method today on my wavy curly hair and it ended up amazing ! Thank you so much !

soumya modi: Requirements- Sharp scissor, comb, detangling brush, hair ties, hair clip, spray bottle, towel/ sheet, styling cream.

Tiffanee F: Thank you so much for this tip. Although I was hesitant, I tried it because I needed a shape for my hair. I have had very bad experiences with haircuts in the past. I live in a small town and it is difficult to find someone to cut my 3c/4a/4b hair without losing length. I'm happy to say that it worked and I am now finally happy with the shape of my hair. You make great content! Keep up the great work! :)

TERESA S COPELAND: I just recently embraced my curly hair and I'm 55 years old. I've been watching your videos and even trimmed my own hair based on your tutorial but my question is about gray hair. I haven't colored my hair in 25 years and don't plan to, but sometimes my grays can get crazy, kinky and frizzy. What products do you recommend for gray curly hair?

YooToobgurl86: Oh my word!!!! I tried this at home and it came out so good! I was so scared, but I did just an inch, and it came out so good that I'm thinking of trying it again in a week or two to take out another inch! I didn't have professional shears on hand, but I'll definitely be purchasing them for all my future cuts. It's so simple, and no more wonky salon cuts!

EgenazLovesRainbows: I did this haircut today and my hair turned out PERFECT! i also used thinning scissors at some parts to go easy on the fluffing situation and i love love love it! :) thank you!

Maria Benedum: One thing I haven’t found is how to care for your hair after swimming and going to the gym. Can you do a do’s, don’ts, tips and tricks?

Melinda Payne: Thank you for explaining the why behind each "do this, not that," and what happens with each.

Hack Battle: My question is... After your hair is dry and you see the "weird curls" sticking out, hanging longer than the rest, You cut them off. But how do you know those same pieces of hair will do that next wash? I hope that makes sense.

YARI: I ended up doing the pigtails cuts and I really liked how it came out. I now have short layers in the front but more longer layers in the back that are in a U-shape. It was a little uneven on the bottom so I just cut some hair off to make it more symmetrical. Overall, I really like it!

scrivounacagata: This must be a sign! I've been looking for a tecnique to cut my own hair and this video just dropped :) Just a question, would you recommend this tecnique for medium-length (sort of touching the shoulders) hair as well?

Lynda Jose: Well, I just did this after having done the unicorn twice! It looks pretty even, now just to wait for it dry and see the results. I took about 3 inches off because I wanted that v shape gone. Can't wait to see the final results! Thanks Mel!!!

Brittany Holtgreven: I've been trimming my own hair ever since quarantine started and I don't think I'll ever get a professional trim again lol

Julie CV: Tried this method today and LOVE the results! I've been cutting my own hair for 6+ yrs - and have been so much happier with it since. Mel's pigtail technique left me with a nice even, rounded shape. Love u Mel!

Leo Moon: I tried this haircut and I LOVED it. I did a customised haircut because I used the video with Amanda's haircut to cut my *bangs* . Then I used this video to cut my *lengths* . The end result was super bouncy, light and didn't take much length off ⚡ Thank you so much. You are the only curly girl I trust.

AngeloandVeronica: I just did this and it came out awesome!! My husband loves it, too. I have such hair issues right now. Terrible itching scalp for over a year, so I have lot of breakage. And have not been able to dye my hair, so lots of grey. Have been cutting my own hair since before covid. Just wanted to do it myself. Have seen lots of vids for diy haircutting. So far this is the best one. So thank you! This was a huge blessing!!

Cristina Vang: Okay I did this today on my hair (I have an identical curl pattern to you, Mel!) and it came out SO GOOD! I may never go to the salon again thank you for this video because I’ve never been able to properly layer my hair until now!

have3kids too: Really enjoy your tutorials. I have done this cut to my hair twice now. The first time was super petrified so I only cut a teeny tiny snippet off. This time, I cut about almost an inch off for my layers, and cleaned up my ends. This is so much better than the unicorn cut, which I have done before, will never do again lol. When she says mullet, that is what I had to deal with the last time I did the unicorn cut, and it took six months for my hair to grow back. This cut is perfect for my 2c to 3a curls. I keep my hair just longer than my shoulders, so this works great for me. Thanks

Rebeka Rodrigues: I just FOLLOWED step by step but with my hair dry, because I thought it would make more sense in my 4a/4b hair, and IT'S AMAZING. It was so easy (and fun). Great video. Thank you so much

Jennifer B.: So, I took the risk as well and did it! Right now I've got my hair plopped in a t-shirt and wait for it to dry a little. Wet it looked really nice, so excited to see what it'll look like in a bit when it's dry. Thanks for this great tutorial!! Edit: It worked and looks amazing! Will definitively do it again.

amb99601: Thank you SO much for this straight forward and amazing tutorial. I have been using thr unicorn cut but realized early on that it definitely has a huge gap between the short and long layers! I'm kinda rocking a 70s shag right now so it doesn't quite matter but I am SO excited to try your method.

K.P: Hey Mell, I just want to thank you so much for changing the way I see my curly hair. Because of you I have learned to love and properly take care of my hair after a total bleach disaster. I love your chanel and the way you explain things like no other youtuber, in my opinion, has done. I was wondering if it's possible for you to address how to properly plop in one of your videos. I noticed you rarely plop but is this something that one should do after or before applying a gel? I'm always on go so ploping for me is a must to reduce dry time. Again thank you for being you and being in my opinion indispensable to the curly hair community. Also happy Birthday

Angelique Lee: I hadn't cut my hair for almost 2 years and was dying for a cut. You're a life saver. Watched the video, grabbed the essentials and while in the shower, washed, combed, tied and snipped away. The relief was so real. Done!

Rachael Tweedt: I finally tried this cut process myself yesterday. It was a success! I had one length hair just passed shoulders. I gave myself a long fringe and took three inches off at my cut. I spent a lot of time reviewing your tutorial and you held my hand all the way through. I did find a young woman with hair more like my fine, curly/wavy, low density hair that also used your pigtail cut technique (I not so young at 51) ). I needed realistic expectations for my hair type. Successful! Thanks for your help!

Yllka: I literally watched this video, got up, washed my hair and started just trimming and cutting like her and it’s beautiful Thank you so much!❤️

Heather Webster: I tried this cut today and just let me say.. Awesome!! This really worked for my 2c/3a hair. I had tried the unicorn cut a few times but after awhile I realized I was missing the layers in the back just like you showed at the beginning of the video. Thank you! Love your videos!

106andie: I was literally gonna trim my hair with the unicorn cut! this video came just in time, thank god! ‍

Colochita Martinez: OMAGAA Thank you❤❤ !! . I am 45 yrs old and NEVER had a good experience at hair salons. It took over 7 years for my hair to grow from a short Bob to med length, down my shoulders. Early this year I got the courage to get layers, downloaded plenty of pics to show the hair dresser, told her I didn't want to loose too much length and BOOM shoulder length!, I almost cried. Now 6 months, I was feeling depressed, hated my hair, I was having an awful time styling it, looked flat, no shape, hated the style. Then I saw this video, and I HAVE BEEN SAVED!!! . I was ready to cut it all off!! I can't thank you enough Mel!! ❤❤❤

Jessica Guerra: Wow this video is amazing!! I love the way you explained everything and made it so simple to get layers. Ugh, I’m so happy. You helped me give my hair life again without spending the big bucks

Barb: I tried this on my long 3b hair. I did the pigtail cut on my hair, and then referred to Amanda's unicorn cut video for how to cut face framing layers. I'm happy with the result! I'm not sure that I cut both sides perfectly evenly, but if I can't tell I think people won't notice. I am still proud of it. Thanks for this video!

Brudey1969: Thank you! This worked perfectly! I haven't had a trim since February and I can't go in to a salon even though they have started reopening in my area because my husband, who I care for, is high risk. I don't think I will be going back to a salon. My hair looks great, and no worries about too much being cut off. Maybe I can finally grow my hair as long as your seester! Keep these videos coming! You are awesome!

Prakriti: a lot A LOT of stylists claim to be "curly hair specialists" the rest. will reassure you they are trained experts. i dont trust any if them anymore. They love to thin and layer and chop. Which is cool is you like to look like a triangle. This lady Id trust. I never let people with straight hair cut my hair anymore. In all honestly I've been cutting it myself for a few years

Julie Monod: I love how it turn out ! I trim my hair at home for years but never did the unicorn hair (my hair is super fine and thin and I avoid layers in fear it would thin it out even more). I read layers are good to wavy hair to avoid weight and I am considering trying a layered haircut. Even if my hair texture is very different than yours, everytime I apply your techniques it makes wonders for my hair ! Sometimes I adapt a few things but your advices still work better for me than some of wavy hair youtubers I tried as well. Thank you for all your videos ! You saved my hair (and my relationship with it) :)

JellyFish: Love this tutorial! I dont have curly hair, I have learned some techniques for cutting hair from my mom who has been doing hair for longer than I've been alive but my friend just asked me to cut her curly hair and this video will DEFINITELY help!!! Love how thorough you are!

Kathleen Levy: Thank you so much for this!!! I needed a simple way to cut my own hair. I tried the unicorn and it was a mullet disaster! You weren’t kidding! Thank you! Love you so much!!!!

Attractively Dainty: I freaking love you. I was so afraid of cutting my own hair. Past experiences turned into disaster. I thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have way shorter hair than you and not as dens, yet I believe the technique work as long as I was being cautious with the length. I also love, love CurlSmith products.

Emily Divina: Thanks so much for the video! I just cut my hair using this method and it was my first time EVER cutting my hair. I hadn’t cut my hair in over a year because of the pandemic and my ends were terrible and tangled. I’m so happy with the results. I think I may just keep cutting my hair myself!

Karina Gutierrez: I’ve noticed that some of my hairs have different girths (where strands goes from thick to thin to thick again) and that some strands are thicker than others. Is this normal or does this mean my cuticles are damaged? If it helps, I’m a strictly air dryer with virgin hair! Also, happy birthday Mell, love your videos

bonnie sumner: Thank you Mell! I basically knew nothing about hair care and styling till going in to a youtube binge on your videos. I have learned so much from you that I have been able to make my own decisions for my hair type, doing a kind of modified curly girl method. My whole life I thought my hair was half straight and half wavy/curly, now for the first time it is all at least wavy and I have a few ringlets. I am working up to purchasing a denman and doing this hair cut, who knows how far my hair can go!

Minna Uyeda: My daughter and I successfully trimmed our own hair. We look awesome, layers are great and it was so simple. Thanks so much.

Alex Adriazola: I'm too scared to cut my own hair, but there is something about cutting hair that is so relaxing.

ZiZi Art: Love your videos, Mell! Finally someone who understand and can explain, their majesty - THE CURLS! THANK YOUUUUUU! <3 Since I start using your advises, my different-type-length-shapes-curls are looking totally different and it's GOOD different! Best regards and admiration for the good work! From a fellow curly-headed gal! :)

Lotte Kroese: I finally tried this today and it turned out SO GOOD! Thank you so much Mel ❤️

jenah1023: Tried this just the other day and I'm loving the results!!! Thank you for explaining WHY it works along with what to do!

Rebeca Castro: I love it!!! I watched it today and decided to try your technique. Worked out great!!! I’m sure it can be perfected but it’s the first time I cut my own hair and I lost the fear thanks to you

jelly bean: please do a thin hair curly routine

Erica Smith: Hey Mell, I've just discovered you! You're fantastic I like the layering this pigtail cut gives. Would it work well if I dried and straightened my hair first? I wear my hair straight a lot- Type 3a, very dense, medium thickness, very frizz prone! Thanks in advance ☺

Caramel Dance: this is my go to video whenever i need a haircut. even if i know how to do it by now i just watch it once again just in case. and it's way better and professional than the unicorn method. you're a life saver for me because i really don't like going to hair saloons even without the freakin pandemic.

Gail Crum: Excellent! My hair hasn't been cut for about 2 years, and this video has inspired me to tackle it myself. Looks much easier than trying to find a stylist who understands curly hair.

Keylin Rodriguez: I always cut my own hair and this was the best best best!! I’ve ever done! THANK YOU SO MUCH BOO!! Love you

Luciana Saladino: Happy birthday!! I love your channel and how you made me understand how to take care of my curls correctly. It's very difficult to get good products for textured hair where I live ( I'm from Argentina) but I'm learing to read the labels to look for the correct ingredients and using all you advice on styling. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the textured hair community!

Tammy Leigh: MELL!! I did the pigtails cut today and its balanced it all out more, thank God for you!!.. And I literally did actually thank God for you!! I hope you are having a lovely birthday so far!!! All the love in the world to you!!!!! ❤️

Adianez Hernandez: Best haircut I’ve gotten in years!!! Best of all I did it myself. My curlz went crazy curly with this. Got a bounce I’ve haven’t had in years! So happy. A fan here !

Steph F: I have a side buzz cut, and it feels difficult finding the right diy video to maintain the longer side, which can also get pretty curly. I've cut my hair several times this year and I feel like this video made me the most confident with what I was doing, and it was easier to follow than most. My hair feels and looks great so thank you so much!

Margarita Guzman: I tried this out and let me tell you how amazing my hair looks. It's crazy what a good cut will do for your hair. My curls are so springy and you can tell they're definitely happy.

GG 107: Thank you so much for this! I tried it, I'll admit I only took a smidge off but it shaped up my hair exactly how I wanted it! Narrowed the bottom which was not flattering. I can now stretch out getting a professional cut and I now know what to ask for when I go.

muskndusk: I must be strange, I like shaggy mullets! The pigtail cut will create a longer front and back but the sides will be shorter. This might sit on your shoulders better, but may not be what everyone wishes to achieve. The reason the end result looks okay is that you took such a small amount off the length, then went back when it was loose and reshaped, not everyone could do this. If you took two or three inches off the length and didn't do the final reshaping, this cut would look odd. The unicorn cut can be a one cut and release style and still look good. Any tinkering is done for preference. I prefer the front to be shorter and face-framing, and the back to be long; which is achieved by the unicorn cut.

Laura Maffitt: Thank you for saving me. I was going to try the unicorn cut. I haven’t had a trim in about months due to covid. Was so long and dry and scraggly. I’ve done this method twice in a couple weeks and it is soooo much better. I was so scared to trim my own hair but you made it super simple.

Rebecca SG: So I've now tried both the cut you taught Amanda to do, and this cut, and while both work, this one is by far the best, even though I don't have the tight curl pattern Mel does. This just results in a much more pleasing rounded, all-over trim in just a few snips. I have very thick hair, so have to do a few passes over the ends of the pigtails to make sure I've got everything even, but the whole process still only took fifteen minutes, and still looks better than most haircuts I get at the salon.

Ashley Kenny: This was actually perfect for my 3c/4a hair. Thank you so much for all your help! You helped me save over $105 CND. <3

Kai A: OMG I needed some major length taken off my hair after seriously neglecting it for like a year, and I'm so, so glad I found this channel (and this video) when I did. I had pretty bad ADHD and all these other videos and techniques looked exhausting and overwhelming to me. This was so easy to follow, so easy to do, and it turned out AMAZING. Take THAT, covid!

PatriciaPanagides: Happy birthday, sweetie! I've learned so much from you! I can't thank you enough. I see great things in your future, gal! I've been cutting my own hair for years, but now it finally makes sense to me I'm def going to play this video a hundred times on my next trim.

Desiree Adrian: This is so awesome! Thank you for developing this and for explaining the reasons for this as opposed to the modified unicorn you helped Amanda do. I was nearly 5 months overdue for a cut when lock-down started and I did the unicorn... it was okay’ish. Last month I did the version you and Amanda developed and I must say I am loving it.... However, I would like to know your professional opinion on trying this pigtails-method on fine/low-medium density/2b-3a hair? Would this be too thinning or not enough? Very interested in your take on this as a professional. Also realized I measured my bangs correctly, but pulled the hairs too close to my ear/temple area for “bangs”. I noticed in this video your bangs section doesn’t reach that far. Oops! Thank you always for your light, energy and great information. Please take care! Desi

SweetDecadence: I've never seen a curly hair video so cleanly and clearly presented. thank you, this was super educational!!

Paul Castillo: I love my cut!! I can’t believe how easy that was!! My curls look so good!!

Eireann Halm: Happy birthday, Mel! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion with us. I can tell you *porous* your heart and soul into really getting to the *root* of the issues and I am *hair* for it.

Jennifer Lachs: Just tried this out and it worked really well, thank you!! You're saving our lockdown hair!

have3kids too: I have been watching your videos. I'm in my 50's. I have enjoyed all of your videos. I tried this hair trimming technique last night. I watched the one where you showed your sister how to do a modified unicorn cut, which is what I have been doing for about a year. I have let my hair grow out some because the unicorn cut really wasn't good for my hair. This cut was perfect. I woke up this morning, did a shower and refreshed and it turned out great. I won't do the unicorn cut again, I really like this cut and it worked perfect on my type of hair. Thanks for this video!

Delia Sequeira: You gave me confidence I needed to cut my own curly hair using the video where you teach your sister how to cut her hair. My curl pattern is between yours and your sisters. I bought the scissors you suggested. It turned out so well. I will keep doing it forever!

Maria Soc: Happy Belated Birthday! ❤️ Thank you for inspiring me to let my curls grow out! I totally love your videos!!!

Gannaeya Vaughan: I tried this yesterday. I love it. I can control how much I want to cut off. Thank you for sharing this. I've learned so much from you!

KWP4: I did this technique after watching your video. It worked! I LOVE my cut and I barely took any off. Thank you for the very well-explained details. I was looking for a diy and you enabled me. Very appreciative!

Briana Torres: Thank you soo much! Saw this video a few months ago but was too scared to try. Finally took the leap today and my hair looks better than it ever has since going natural (over 7 years ago)! Thank you sooo sooo much for helping me on my hair journey! Much appreciated!!

Danni Kaitlyn Garrison: My hair was really falling apart during the pandemic, and your channel and this haircut have really helped me get back on track. Thank you so much for all of your hard work ♥️

Natalie Dawn Tirado-Buehl: Happy Belated Birthday, Mel! May you be blessed with many more years of success and happiness and may you continue to inspire curly girls throughout the world. You have certainly inspired me!

A.0k: Yesss Mel, thank you for sharing. I have been mulling over the need to see a curl specialist for a trim... but I'd save myself $200+ for treatment, cut and styling... I appreciate you!!!

katelyn jordan: This is literally the 3rd time I’ve cut my hair with this and this time around I let the video just keep playing and I had no idea about the entire end with Mel just.... well being Mel I love it!!

Havva D: I tried this and it turned out AMAZING! Thank you Mell ❤️

Bethanie Taylor: I have 3C/4A hair and used this video to cut it today and I LOVE the result! I used to cut my hair all the time when I chemically straightened it but since I did my big chop 3 years ago I haven't actually properly cut it because of the fear of ruining my curls. Think i'll be going back to cutting my own hair again now!

Nikki Sell: Thank you for this video! I did a modified unicorn cut. Had to go around and fix it with traditional layering. Next trim i will use this method!! ❤️❤️ love you and your hair!

Beth Luna: I've been trimming my hair in low pigtails for ages and I can't wait to try this!!

Zoe Smullen: I tried this hair cut the other day and it's working amazingly! Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️

Linda: Wow!!! I want to thank you for this tutorial. It worked ❤️❤️ I'm loving my wavy hair so much right now. You are such a blessing ❣️

Neil Galve: I am cutting my hair right now while watching you Mell. I have been starting with my curly hair journey and I just want you to know how much you influence me. You are amazing and your seester Amanda. Godbless both of you and your loved once.

Tina Thevarge: Happy Birthday Mel! I’m going to try this on my straight/wavy hair. My hair hasn’t decided if it’s wavy or not. Sometimes it’s pin straight, and sometimes it tries to curl a bit. I did try the cgm, but ended up figuring out I'm allergic to most products because they almost all contain coconut oil. So I gave up.

Mars: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MELL!! you are amazing and have helped me so much on my curly hair journey. love and appreciate you sooo much, girl

Kim Sullivan: I just did this cut following your video! My hair is just as curly as yours and it was the first cut in over 2 years! At my longest pint I cut off 6”!! I particularly defused it and now air drying due to the frizz I get I will be cleaning up the cut when fully dry, but THANK YOU!!! Absolutely love the cut

Steve Doria: Thank you Mell for giving me the confidence to try this haircut. Super happy with the results so far!

Aida F.: YES!!! Thank you for this video!! I am SO overdue for a trim/cut and this came just in time!! Will be trying this next wash day coming up!!

Angela Muzzarelli: I was so nervous to do this but my hair needed a trim so badly. I am so glad I did! This was a great tutorial! Thank you so much !

Stephanie S.: This is incredible, thank you! I have more of your sisters curl pattern, do you think someone with her hair type would benefit from the pigtail cut over the unicorn cut? (I just watched that video) . I just want to be sure I pick the right one for my hair. Thank you for blessing us with your knowledge!!!

daftoptimist: MELL!!! I did it!!! I can’t believe how good my hair looks!! It has just the shape I’ve always wanted, always told my stylist I wanted but never quite got. It’s bouncy, it’s soft and rounded, I can’t get over it! Thank you so much!!!

Ayushi Raj: I did it ! I dit it ! It came out so well ❤️❤️ Thanks Mell now my hair is clumping more

RiaTruthSeeker: I've just found your channel and I've already subbed cos your personality and techniques explaining how and why you do what you do are ON POINT This is by far the clearest easiest demonstration I've seen I was wondering if you have already, or if you'd consider doing "back to school" hairstyles for us mum's with curly haired girls❤️
