-I was natural 90 % of my life.. I didn't start getting relaxers until my mid-20s.. I don't feel like there's a stigma around relaxing your hair.. I feel like the time that we're in whatever makes you feel more comfortable. Hi, I'm Re'Gine and today I'm getting a cut a relaxer touch-up.. So growing up, my mom had a hair salon, so I've gone through every single type of hairstyle --, braids weaves.. It would take me like an hour just to wash and blow dry it.. It'S thick. It'S long., I'm tired, my arms hurt.. I just knew I wanted to cut my hair.. I have three sons. I have a business, so I don't have so much time. And now it takes me 15 minutes to wash it set it and I'm ready to go. -Hey, I'm Greg Gilmore and today we're going to be doing a cut-and-style, relaxer touch-up.. I'Ve been doing this work for a really long time., It's been about 18 years for me.. I love cutting, I love color and it has a tremendous ability to make. You feel different brand new and I love producing that feeling in my clients.. So we're going to take care of your hair today. We're going to do a relaxer, retouch. -Okay -I know you're a wife, a mom got that hectic work style. So we want something nice easy for you to maintain at home. -Okay. I can't wait.. So when I'm about to start a relaxer, I like to first apply a base. Want to protect the scalp.. The base will melt with the body temperature.. Therefore, it will spread across the scalp and have a nice coating before applying the relaxer. Dos and don'ts when you're applying a relaxer --, you can't scratch before your relaxer.. You don't want to shampoo at least two to three days before your appointment.. You want to work very quickly and efficiently.. I like to start with the back and the napes first, because even if she starts to burn prematurely at least the sides and nape will be straight and you can just get enough tension in the top to smooth it out with the flat irons. If it's not all the way, straight. Tingling from the client on their scalp is an indication that you should start hurrying up. There's this misconception that you got to wait until the relaxer's burning before you can rinse it out, but that is a myth.. The relaxer is really just a lifestyle decision., They had a decline over the past couple of years, but they actually have a resurgence coming up, and so now people are gravitating back to relaxers, because they've understood what relaxers are really for.. It'S very hard work. Maintaining your natural hair, a lot of times., Most people choose to do, relaxing because it's easier to maintain your style at home.. You know a lot of women have had really bad experiences in the salon with relaxers and I think that created a negative stigma around getting relaxers done in the salon.. So it's just really about proper application.. When I'm washing out the relaxer, I like to use two neutralizing shampoos, so I'll shampoo, the hair once with the neutralizing and then twice with the neutralizing shampoo. And then third shampoo, usually is a moisturizing shampoo, just to kind of put moisture back into the hair.. Then after the shampooing is finished, I like to condition the hair.. I take my client back to the chair and now we're going to do a little rough-draft, cutting or in other words wet cutting, and this is to carve out the initial shape that we're going to have for the day before her mold.. So after our wet cutting. I will mold the hair with a wrap foam just to ensure that everything lays smooth., And I will wrap wrap strips around this so that it stays tight and compressed and we put her under the dryer.. This may take about 45 minutes to an hour to dry and about 15 minutes after she's been sitting under the dryer I like to take the wrap strips off so that the inside of the mold can dry as well. After my client is thoroughly dry. I like to unwrap it using a blow dryer as well. This just infuses the hair with a little bit more air, gives it more movement and just make sure it's thoroughly dry.. I love this shape.. I know you don't care what I do. -It's fire right, now. -Whatever, I do be da bomb., [, Laughs, ] -And then we'll do some more detailing on the cut just to finish it out.. This is where we individualize the cut and make it just for her., And so I will go in and just use a shear-over-comb method that helps me blur the lines.. I will also use my straight-point cutting shear to sharpen the cut in certain places that I may have missed. While I was wet-cutting, add any signature pieces and just really give it that finish. I like to come in with a half-inch flat iron and I will curl from the top and work my way down to the bottom.. I add a little bit of serum just to give it that nice sheen that really really healthy look and then I will finish it in the comb-out. Whoop-whoop: Hey -Okay., [, Chuckles ]. Oh my gosh.. I can't wait to get home and show my husband this. -Okay.. -Wow. I love my hair.. My expectations were far exceeded. Today.. I just expected to look nice, but I love the new cut that he gave me. Put it in his hands. I trusted him and he did not disappoint. -So. Today I think, went really well.. She looks absolutely amazing. Right now. What'S trending is you know the lace-fronts a lot of commercial extensions, and so that's why I feel like cut-and-color has been a lost art.. You want to maintain your retouches, maybe about six weeks in between each relaxer.. I feel that there is a stigma behind relaxed hair and I just want to let everyone know that it's okay., It's okay, to relax your hair. Having a great hairstyle, gives you great confidence to do what you need to do for your life. -So. This cut is a little different than cuts I've had in the past because it's shorter, but I love this new one and I just feel good about it.. I think it's going to work out great for me for these next six weeks.

C-light: Pixie cuts are _extremely_ flattering for most women. It’s an oldie but goodie and works in any decade. The stigma surrounding short hair doesn’t make sense to me. Yes, you can look womanly and beautiful with a “boy” haircut. Believe that!

Living like Leah: I’m the complete opposite lol, I was relaxed as a kid and now I wear my natural hair, just a preference. Everyone should wear the hairstyle that they feel they can handle. Natural hair is no joke

Brooke W: She looks amazing! The hairdresser is truly an artist.

J M: Relaxers really are a lifestyle. I begged for one as a kid & had one for years but as an adult I decided to go back to natural. TBH any Black hairstyle is a lifestyle. No shade to anyone on how they choose to style their hair!

Alèxandra: As an aspiring hairstylist this is absolute fire to see! What a knowledgeable and kind soul the hairdresser is and she looks absolute fire!

Dana C: I do NOT miss getting a relaxer and I’m more of a natural bohemian type of person so natural hair just works better with how I live my life… HOWEVER, black women have been through too much (especially when it comes to their hair) so I definitely say do whatever makes you happy and do what works for YOU. You deserve to live life on your terms and in your own way. ♥️

Courtney T: Her face is perfect with this haircut. Wow! And I love how dense and healthy her hair is.

Soul Glow: I will ALWAYS love this cut.. those short cuts like this one are a go-to winner. Well done fam

Kat Blaque: I keep wanting to relax my hair and then i remember how much work it was to upkeep and i'm truly good on that... but I still wonder lol.

Jenné Afiya: DID THAT ❤️‍ Also love how knowledgeable and positive this stylist was - I ain’t had this cut in years and now I’m ready to book an appointment

Lolo Future: We’ve come a long way when relaxers have a stigma and natural hair is where it’s at. I was made fun of in middle school for having kinky hair- which was actually relaxed just not bone straight. I think we should all just let each other do what we want with our hair

resurrectedwreck: Stunning!! You can tell when someone really loves what they do. He's an artist!

Latocha Terrelonge: I'm never going back to relaxers but this is fire! I love it

P Lee: This hair cut amazing. The client looks stunning with this haircut. This stylist gave his client a new vibe and helped her release a heart warming smile.

joy webb: Shout out to the beautician for educating us on hair care with the perm. Not everyone wants to be natural and thats ok. She does what works with her life style as we all should. It was her confidence for me.

Mcknight209: I love that they are incorporating more hair content than just regular cuts and colors!

oohlalaa: Her hair looks phenomenal! full and healthy, and that cut was just masterful! What a gorgeous girl!

starzzzy: This brings back so many memories of pixie cut styles in the 90s (and allll the upkeep of them). He did a great job.

수지: Love how the stylist is so passionate about his job! He's enjoying every bit of it and I want to be just like him in the future when I start my professional career too. Just being able to wake up every day and remember you have an amazing job and then being excited to help others every day just like him is my dream. ♡

MoonPoppy: These results are stunning. So sophisticated and such a timeless style :)

bree G: Very cute he did a good job. I use to have my hair cut like this the only thing that is quick about this is washing it. After you wash it you have to lay it down with wrapping lotion and wrap it. Also you have to style it or it will look crazy. New growth was super noticable so I was going to the salon every two weeks. It takes a lot of effort to keep it looking nice.

Nora Hunt: One of my favorite transformations! And I learned a lot about this type of treatment. She looks beautiful and he is an absolute artist! ❤️

Evolve2Exist Kris: I love a good pixie cut! This almost makes me want to cut my hair again!

Rebecca Harkless: This just made me want to cut and relax my hair. She looks great!

MrzBadaBing: She looks gorgeous it looks amazing on her ! He is an amazing hairstylist and super professional love his personality. He just gained quadruple clients from this video alone haha. Love that relaxers are coming back because not everyone has that time to deal with their natural hair . We’re getting too busy !

Diana Szabóová: She´s unbelievebly gorgeus !!! This hairstyle is very suitting and also how the hairdresser works with her, i have no words.

Hiba Nizami: Omggg this is so pretty!! I love looking at pixie cuts but don’t think I’d ever be able to rock one… I’d also miss my hair way too much

Dena A: Too cute!!! I went natural in 2005 when I was 21 yrs old in Kentucky (still am to this day). At the time this was very unpopular and I caught lots of heat from black folks only. Fast forward to now it's more common to see naturals than it is to see those rockin a relaxer. I've heard plenty of shade thrown at those who choose to be relaxed..as if it's a shameful act. Crazy!!! Do what you do boo! If it's cute ,you've weighed your options, and are able to execute in a HEALTHY way... then I support it either way. (Not that my opinion should matter at all)

J: What a talented hair stylist and I love how knowledgeable he was. Perfection and she looks fire sis!

lol: this looks amazing! i'm currently rocking the buzzcut look and i'm not growing out my hair anytime soon but if i ever do pixie cuts would probably be next on the list

Kelly M.: He's a true pro! He knows exactly what he's doing her hair looks beautiful omg!! She looks amazing.Taking care of relaxed hair & a pixie cut do requires time though.

Bella Donna: Her hair style looks FABULOUS!!!! It helps that she had enough hair for FOUR PEOPLE on her head!! HOLY MOLY!!! And her hair was in great condition too! She takes wonderful care of her hair. I really liked how you explain the steps and that burning or tingling isn't a good thing. It can lead to the EMERGENCY ROOM AND POSSIBLE HAIR LOSS AND EVEN BALDNESS. I'm not sure if things have changed, but there were two kinds of relaxers and if your client had prior relaxed hair, it was important to know what kind they used or there was hair damage in the form of no hair where the product touched the prior treated area. Your blending technique is spot on! The best I've ever seen and the gradation is FANTASTIC!!! I'M BLOWN AWAY!!! YOU ARE A TRUE ARTIST AND MASTER!!! ❤❤❤❤❤!!!!

Erin's Journey: I have always loved pixie cuts and THIS one suits her perfectly. And how EASY this is for her to maintain!! Growing up I always wanted Farah Fawcet hair but short & pixie suites me much better.

Jacob Russell: This is INCREDIBLE!!! So much talent this man had and his client looks AMAZING!!!

Nnenna Eleanya: She looks great! Reminds me of when I had my big chop. I will never forget how amazing I felt when I had my pixie cut a few years ago. It changed me as a person lol.

Deanna Maurice: Growing up in a salon I can say he is excellent at his craft! Beautiful work.

Lynn Toy: He did such a great job, this cut looks amazing on her and she’s beautiful

Gillian McBride: She is so gorgeous and the style turned out amazing! This video was so informative too ♥

Ente Wurzel: This hair looks so amazing. And it suits her so well

Ash louw: That stylist energy is so smooth and calming no wonder his work looks so flawless. He really highlighted his client's beauty that was already there Love everything about this❤

Linda Bertino: WOW, just WOW. IM IN LOVE with how this turned out on her. She's gorgeous before and after!

Danielle Crome: I’m a short haircut woman myself… I love it!!! They’re so easy to maintain and I feel awesome with my short hair…

Veronica Hardy: That hairstyle looks fantastic on her! Seriously, we have a model on our hands ❤ Also, her smile is gorgeous!

Soso Sanchez: Ok. All I saw was the cut & I instantly watched.. I love a pixie it's been my style 4 20 plus years.. I absolutely agree with the young woman.easy no fuss & looks Amazing!!!

Mary Ducksworth: I love that you guys are posting diverse hair stories and tutorials <3

Jenessa Oliver: This was a fire cut! It fits her face and features so well!

Katka Valentinska: Stunning cut on a truly beautiful woman! Those gorgeous eyes - the cut fits so well!!!! I love this hair me out series. All those transformations are so inspiring. Also it shows how a good haidresser should advise you and work.

Monica M: I’m happy she enjoys the outcome. The stylist showed great technique and care

Lisa Messikommer: She looks gorgeous and I adore the hairstylist energy!!!

Renee E.: Relaxers are really making a comeback? Awww. I love seeing my natural hair sistahs.

koko nana: She looks AMAZING! The hairdresser is such an artist and he also has such a good heart--so caring.

Stephanie Jones: Her step out at 5:55 ! Stunning!!! Greg did a phenomenal job!

JuaniqueVerde: I meeeaaannn!!! this was I’ve been natural all my life and I’ve always wanted this style but knew you had to perm your hair to achieve it, so I was always talked out of it. But I LOVE THIS!!!! Greg did a great job! I wish he was here, I’d go to him. I def believe there is, and sometimes reinforce, the stigma around relaxed hair, but this video has helped open my mind. I’ve always seen this process being done from days of press-n-curls but never explained. Thanks Greg! So informative. And she looks HOT!!! The only complaint I have was the cutting and then not washing your hair afterwards. Those start hairs would drive me crazy!!

Life's Journey: WOW! That looked sensational on her

Troll Bot: This looks amazing! He did that! This totally elevated her look to another level she looks fire! ❤

Leo V: Woah! this man is amazing! The way he cares about every cut he makes sculpting it and molding it to her head is amazing. His passion he exucdes made me feel like he was cuttimg my hair and I felt the love for sure lol

Felicia Silmon: Beautiful. I grew out my pixie and I wish you could cut mine. I've been natural for 2 years. I wouldn't relax it but I would rock this natural.

Anna LP: That hair suits this woman to perfection - she looks absolutely stunning!!!

Dr. JP, PsyD: A talented artist! I was relaxed throughout my adolescence and don't want a relaxer now but I want him to style my hair.

NoraBeeCool: I love it. I was relaxed for years before I went natural. Relaxed or being a loose natural is a lifestyle and takes work to maintain. For the past 5yrs now I have worn dread locs as it is low maintenance which I love.

Abbi_Reads: His work, her hair, the cut is beautiful! A pixie cut was my favorite hairstyle when I was relaxed. If I didn't love being able to take a shower without a shower cap, I'd totally consider getting a relaxer again.

shaiinuhxx: She looks absolutely amazing! Gorgeous cut.

glitterfied77: Girl you look good! Now I’m over here telling my friend I want this style

D I V A Kingsley: This was a Great video of letting people know that you can do anything that YOU want to do with your hair. She is rocking the relaxer short hairstyle. He seems to be talented in doing hair and she is very pretty. Thanks for posting.

Erica J: Greg is knowledgeable okay! I love how he was able to explain every step of his relaxer process - You go boy

Nola Shawty: One of my favorite cuts!Great job!!! Watching this makes me want to cut mine again.

Here for It: I wore short hair for many years. I got my short hair professionally relaxed for a year or more, but I felt my hair and scalp becoming dryer and dryer so I stopped. If Greg had been my stylist I’m sure he’d have given me tips on how to better care for my hair and given me exactly the cut I asked for (my stylist did not).

Michelle Fenner: Omg Greg!!!!!! He did my big chop a few years ago. Love love loved my hair. So happy to see this content with him

C-light: Oh, and shoutout to the women who can rock their look without makeup!

nel dormiveglia: Greg's hair is GORGEOUS and so is Re'gine's! Honestly, just do whatever floats your boat and feels more convenient to your lifestyle. I have straight, caucasian-ass, shoulder-length hair and I still feel like it's a lot of work to wash and dry my hair. I can imagine curly hair, especially when it's long, must be really time-consuming. Regardless, that cut was pristine and Re'gine, you look dope!

misstownes: Her hair came out amazing perfect cut for the shape of her face as well! Do what makes you happy guys!

Tasha Pasha: You know you have a good hairstylist when the style falls into place before any styling products or heating appliances are used.

PrayAlways: Love it. EXCELLENT styling, looks very nice.

Sapphire Light: She looks amazing. You did a beautiful job, but you know that!!

Bebellz Fortuné: I used to cut my hair like that 10 years ago! This video brings me back memories!!

Mellow Madness: I really admire this stylist, great job

debbie12346: Amazing! Beautiful cut and really flattering!

Trinity Jones: He did a beautiful job!

Mane Authority: Greg is my FAVOURITE!!! Love to see him do big things !!

toastEDmrshmello09: I think I’m going to go back to this do for myself! I am a short natural and I have A LOT of hair that I love but I need something different. I bought a tiny flat iron and I’m familiar with the foam mold. Think I’ll commit! Nice vid and great hairdresser. She looks fab.

Electra Rain: It came out beautiful and shoot I've been natural for a long time I used to wear relaxers a long time ago and honestly I've been wanting to go back to relaxers it's nothing wrong with it it's just easier when you have long and thick hair yes your hair grows more better when it's natural do whatever is best for you both is okay and just because you get a perm doesn't mean that you don't love your hair I've been wanting to cut my hair for a while now I just need to really have the courage to do so

Nicole Collado: Greg is my fav!!! I’m so happy to see this exposure!! Go Greg!

Amy Edwards: Her hair is beautiful! The stylist is very perfessional! My hair is natural but that pixie cut is beautiful. Makes me want to go back!!!

Kaitlyn: Walking out like an independent woman, yes!

Patricia Duke: I loved this!!! He did a great job! She is beautiful!

Here for It: I LOVE that wrapping foam. It’s good on natural hair too.

CLB30ROX: That cut is super cute! He did a great job

i identify as Jeff Bezos. where is my money: It looks absolutely gorgeous I would have thought she installed them

Enjoy 😉: I love cut even being a locd person who does not plan on cutting my locs this was fire for sure it definitely gave me a vibe I have not felt in a long time something fresh and new

J Jean: Super gorgeous lady and cut! She looks so pretty and chic with a pixie, I want one too!

AllGellieBean Everything: Seeing a relaxer seems so ancient….I haven’t used ‘creamy crack’ in almost 15 years. I absolutely love her cut Very beautiful

Carol Cake: The hairdresser is incredibly talented and the woman is stunning!

Princess Riley: Wow. Amazing! What a gorgeous transformation!!

ThisFallenBitch: So interesting ! I feel like the same thing happened with curly perms for straight hair, so many people were traumatized by bad over-processed perms in the 80s & 90s that the perm kind of became disowned by the industry. I’m always fighting the stigma with my (mostly Caucasian) clients, and they are starting to come back into fashion a bit. I call it a “body wave” which seems to help ease them into it lol. Some Peoples’s Hair Just NEEDS A Perm, I’m sorry!

Margaret Holloway: You are stunning! This cut looks so great on you.
