Natural Hair Maintenance Tips For African-American Women

12News reporter Rachel Keller visits Celebrity Experience salon in Beaumont to speak with professional hair stylists for advice on how to maintain healthy hair.

Natural hair has been an integral feature of black history from African tribal styles to dreadlocks, and the Afro many african-americans are embracing natural hair texture in honor of Black History Month. Rachel is live at celebrity experience in Beaumont with advice on everyday natural hair care, hey Rachel. I see your spring your curls this morning, hey Vanessa, hey Tracey! This morning, the straighteners in the garbage we threw it on out I'm rocking my natural curl this morning and this woman actually she's my life saver on the daily, so she's gon na be your life. Savers at home this morning, this is ebony. She is the owner here of celebrity experience. Salon in Beaumont she's been working on this dude this morning now ebony. How did we get it to be at this full capacity? We shampoo this morning conditioned and then we use a foam and we used a cream which is a pudding and we use as we call it edge control. But it's all by the line. Kongo. We used all that on Rachel's hair, to define her curl pattern right now other than putting in product. How can we get it to grow as long as possible for those folks that want to do okay, so people that want to grow their hair as long as possible? You have to have maintenance on your hair, which means that you actually have to have a visit to the salon. So a visit to the salon actually consists of maybe a deep conditioner, maybe once a month, maybe a trim once a month or as far as a haircut okay, to keep it together and low low low heat. Okay, and that, I think, is a problem that a lot of us have, we love our straighteners. We love our curling irons, I'm definitely one of them. We have to make sure that we're not putting oh, we have to make sure we're not putting as much heat as normal. Now, let's head over here, to the dreadlocks now this is more of a, I would say, a more lower maintenance hairstyle right. Yes, this is a lower maintenance. Hairstyle locks are pretty much self maintenance. You have to come to the salon at least every two weeks to to get them as we call it like retwist, but they're kind of saving self maintenance and definitely a popular hairstyle she's. Had these luxe for eight years, she said, but she said it's definitely a great experience and she would recommend it to anyone that is interested.
