Purple Shampoo Brassy Hair Before & After | Skip2Mylou

Hey Louzers! It's been a long time since I've "toned" my brassy hair so in this video, we put purple stuff in my hair to see if it does anything. And yes, I know that hieroglyphics is not a language. Enjoy. oxoxo Lou

FTR: I'm just a girl, standing in front of a mirror, asking it if my hair looks brassy.

#purpleshampoo #brassyhair #beautifulhair

My bathtub looks like a purple: crime scene happened there skip to my Lou, my darling hi guys its Lou, so I've done a number of hair coloring videos in the past, more specifically hair bleaching and how to put streaks in your own hair. Well, a lot of people, mostly hairdressers, said very meanly that all for one they would never do that to their own hair whatever and to don't use a toner. Your hair looks so brassy. Well, the answer to that is yeah, but not lately - and I don't know about a specific toner, but what I've always used and haven't used in quite some time is a purple shampoo. What the color purple does is it cancels out the yellow or the brassiness in hair that has been processed to blond now, I'm just saying stuff, so that might be true and it might not, but I pretty much think it is so what we are going to Do today is we are going to take half of my brassy hair and wash that with purple shampoo and the other with just regular, shampoo and see what the difference is now I do want to tell you guys, shimmer lights by Clairol. That is what everybody seems to know and use for getting the brassiness out of their hair with purple shampoo. Well, I have a little secret for those of you who have tried shimmer lights. You may have noticed a very pungent strong, flowery odor, like I don't know old, lady perfume. Well, I found what is the generic version of shimmer lights and I got this at Sally beauty and it not only smells better. It'S also about half the price. This was $ 6.99 and it was buy one get one free at that time, so I don't know if it's always like that, but I believe a bottle of shimmer lights costs about $ 20. So when I told my husband, I was going to do this video and do half of my hair purple he's like how are you going to do that and show washing your hair? Well, we are going to put the purple shampoo, my hair, while it's dry now. The reason for this is so the shampoo can better penetrate my hair penetrate and the shampoo won't be diluted with water. Remember this from my last video, the handy knitting needle, I use it for oh yeah, my eyebrows anyway, we're gon na part, my hair, it's already parted in the middle, oh by the way, we're starting and I'm not parted. All the way in I have more hair on this side, and I am going to just put this in a ponytail so that I look like I'm 12 or I look like a lady in her 40s that is trying to you know not be in their 40s. Wear ponytails to the gym: don't please don't now. I will show you my part, not that part this one just so that you can see the brassiness. That is my yellow hair. Anyway, as you can see, both sides are pretty evenly blonde, but that doesn't really matter anyway. It'S not a before, and after it's a with and without so let's get started. First, I'm going to show you how very purple this stuff is. You might as well start it smells kind of flowery and beachy at the same time, so I am gon na cover this side of my hair and apparently my face with purple shampoo. Now, yes, I mean no, I don't have super blonde hair. It'S kind of a well: it's dark blonde until I you know until I'm done with it, but the streaks that I do have in my hair can become brassy after highlighting it a little more all house issues. Oh so do I, okay, I'm gon na activist. I am shampooing, I think I missed a bunch of places oops. I don't want to get some closer to the middle of my part. What for DOMA? I can't do anything without getting it. On my face. It'S on my shirt. Oh there. I think we got it saturated and I'm just gon na leave a little knot at the top of my hair. All right, that's as good it's going to get right now, um. I would read the directions but look at them. I'M going to see how long I have to leave this stuff on and then what I'm going to do is wash my hair with regular shampoo on this side and just rinse the other side out, probably a little conditioner on both sides, because otherwise I wouldn't be Able to push through my hair, alright, here I go. I can't turn my camera off because they don't want to touch it I'll touch. My computer with my elbow okay, bye, apply to wet hair, did not do that lather, then rinse repeat for additional brightening leave. Second, lather on for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing um, seeing as my hands kind of came clean, there's a little purple tinge on them, but it's been about 5 minutes. So I am gon na wait, three more yeah! That'S my decision and I will be back with hopefully some less brassy hair on the left, so the purple ran out of my hair for quite some time and I just ran water through it until it ran clear, but there were casualties, my towel and, quite frankly, My bathtub looks like a purple. Crime scene happened there, oh and by the way, see that that's not shampoo, that's a bruise moving furniture is you know it's dangerous anyway. I put a little bit of conditioner in my hair because this stuff says conditioning shampoo so and I know we're not gon na - be able to really see anything until I dry it. But I didn't want to just do this by myself, my husband, all myself, you're. So rough on your hair, you push it so hard. I think it's this brush. It'S got like a amplifier in there, so every little hair that snaps you can hear it. I tend to part more toward the right. So let's get in there. We'Re going for DOMA is hieroglyphic for darn it any time in any of my videos when I do that joke somebody thinks I'm serious and has to tell me what the real meaning of whatever I said was, and it wasn't in that language all right now we're Gon na wait a little bit because I don't blow dry, my hair when it's soaking wet, which it is right now, alright I'll be back when my hair is dry and out of my face, okay, bye! Well, I don't see a difference. I really don't. I will tell you this: whenever I washed my hair in the bathtub, I don't seem to get all of the you know shampoo and conditioner residue off my hair, so it feels a little weighed down a little bit on the park. I even went outside to see if there was a big difference and well even a little difference, and I even took pictures to kind of see if perhaps natural light made a difference. But you know what I have done. Videos where I say I don't see any difference and then, when I'm finished with the video and actually compare side-by-side or before-and-after, I do notice a difference. So do you regular shampoo purple shampoo? They smell different, but I think they look the same. So I don't know. I have used this before in the past and reading up on it lately tons of great reviews, reviews that said, it really worked and it was better than shimmer lights, but I don't know to me this is worth it just not to have that strong smell that You get with shimmer lights anyway, you guys that's it for this video on purple shampoo and whether or not it works. I hope you enjoyed the video. I hope you learned something better. I'Ve learned something if you did enjoy the video. Please give it a thumbs up and if you aren't already subscribed but would like to be, please hit that button down below and you'll see me very soon with more videos.

Amanda Robbins: Hey Lou :) hairdresser here - On the colour wheel purple is opposite to yellow, and blue is opposite to orange. Because your hair is about a level 8, it is showing brassy tones (as opposed to yellow tones) so purple isn't going to be strong enough to neutralise those tones. I would recommend a blue shampoo like Fanola No Orange for your hair colour ! It's going to be a lot stronger to neutralise the darker brassy tones as purple only really works on pale blonde hair.

Karen Keller: Your hair looks great. Just call it golden blonde and don’t worry about what others say.

loveandstuff35: WHO ELSE HAS THE MOST ANXIETY RIGHT NOW.....doing that in that nice white shirt......

Jax T: I think "brassy" gets a bad rep, unless you're aiming for a platinum blonde. I've always envied your golden blonde color that I think is fabulous with your skin tone. I used to add a cap-or-three of ash blonde to my light blonde hair color to remove brassiness when I was young but now feel more gold is better around my face. Sometimes drabbing down blonde hair results in a dullness that makes the complexion look lifeless. I've also tried those gold and red shampoos that are supposed to add a little color but they never worked and seemed harder on my fine hair. I saw no difference between your two sides - a good thing IMHO.

Dianna Shuster: Yep I can see a pretty big difference. The side you did with the purple is definitely brighter and lighter.

Kristin S: I see a difference, a quite obvious one too. And I'm wondering if it is even more noticeable outside in natural lights? I think after several times of using the blue shampoo, it will get lighter and lighter. Or less and less brassy. I love how cool you are doing this in a white shirt/jacket in the living room! <3

Sapphire Temple: That’s such a big difference it makes your hair colour even more beautiful

anjeanettes channel: When I feel like my hair is looking a little too orange vs a little too yellow, I use Fanola No Orange Shampoo. It works better than anything else I have ever tried, and I have tried everything!

KristanXMarie: Using purple shampoo while wearing all white...you are brave! I actually love the color of your hair. I definitely see a small difference but it all looks great!

Lou Lou: I’m a cooler blonde, so I use a purple shampoo once or twice a week (let it sit for 3 minutes or so while I wash my bod) followed by a good conditioner. It keeps my color from going brassy. I think blue shampoo is recommended for warmer blondes. I think. You crack me up.

monica12360: On my experience on orange and brassy hair I use half bottle of 050 Wella purple lights and whole bottle of Wella T18 ashy blonde with 2 parts of 20 developer . It was the perfect combination to get rid of the orange and brassyness. I was so happy with the results.

Anna Kozlowski: You do it on wet hair - squeeze the water out and apply shampoo lather and let it penetrate. You must do it on wet hair because water opens hair cuticles and allows for the purple to enter inside the hair shaft and tone the brassy colors. If you apply on dry hair , hair cuticles are closed therefore shampoo can’t enter inside and that’s why you see no results. Good luck next time. I hope this helps ;)

Chantal C: Love you Lou. Your sarcasm and playfulness is 95% of the reason I watch your channel.lol <3

Maria D: I have never used a purple shampoo, was a natural and bleached blonde for years, but I'm wondering why there aren't more purple or blue conditioners. I would think those would make more of an impact, plus healthier to leave on hair. Possibly, answered my own question with the word impact. :D Now, I've created my own purple conditioner with Artic Fox, nonetheless the results aren't going to help blondes much for obvious reasons. :P

Tabatha Tee: I see a difference, to me it was pretty noticeable

Son Shine: What timing!! I JUST did my hair tonight with clariol and if course it comes out reddish for ultra light blonde!! WHY don't hair colour companies include what we need to get the colour on the damn box?! I'm pissed!! it's such a chore and costs extra money. THANK YOU LOVELY LOU for ALL the info you offer as well as being a guinea pig too!!! hard to hear you though. plz make loudest & let us turn it down?? I Got the purple shampoo so more news at 11 or next week if I EVER get enough energy to try it... BTW... NEW PANTENE ROSE WATER CONDITION- ER IS AMAZING!!SMELLS SOOO GOOD.THANKS FOR BEING YOU!! CHEERS

Brie B: It does look brighter! I’m so getting this....love a cheaper, better version of stuff. Thx Lou!

Jacqueline Ohayon: I see a slight difference. Also, I liked your hair color it looked classy and such a pretty color. If it was a natural color people would just say it was gorgeous. Because they know you dye they have to have something to say about it I've always loved it and thought it was awesome.

Maggie Ensley: Soooooo cute! The more imperfect this application gets the more perfect it is!!

Ally: I think this colour is amazing on you, strawberry blonde looks very natural on you :) I think if it were toned it might wash you out ❤️

monique pacheco: I work at Sally beauty and I am also a licensed cosmetologist and I would really suggest the new headwear blondastic shampoo and conditioner. They work amazing and there is no sulfate and no parabens. With the generic shimmer lights shampoo it was very drying but with the headwear one it’s not, plus if you have a toner in your hair it won’t strip out the toner as well.

Pattie Morphew: I see a difference. I've been wanting to mention that your hair looked brassy but didn't want to hurt your feelings. I had REALLY brassy hair back in the 90's and wish someone would have told me. I ended up going to a professional colorist that took care of the orange without damage. Then I got some nice bronzer and whoa, I looked alive again.

Kimberly Holt: I could absolutely see a difference on your lighter streaks. I use Fudge purple shampoo & really like it!!

LRiv43: Seeing this for the first time, researching purple shampoo for my niece. OMG I love your sense of humor. So glad YouTube recommended your video. I actually do see a slight difference. Headed to your channel now to see what else you got there!

Tamela Nelson: Actually I’m glad it didn’t change the color, it’s beautiful the way it is! Beautiful hair color with your complexion and your makeup looks gorgeous too!!! And only 40, girl strut your stuff, on that catwalk! Meow!!

Iris Quinteros: hi, I actually like the brassy hair on you, my hair is almost platinum and the rots are always super brassy and that drives me crazy, I was considering just dying everything a light cooper to Match my roots and after seeing your video I'm almost sure that I will do it sooo thank you so much.

Jennifer N: I use Shimmer Lights just for the smell. I don’t notice a difference in my hair either, but the smell reminds me of my late mom. ❤️

Katz Vlog: I just wanted to say that I think it's very rude that any hairdresser would send u rude comments. I just happened to stumble onto your video. But I am also a hairdresser and I think your hair looks absolutely amazing. I think it's the right color for your skin tone. I'm also a firm believer in if something works for you do it. And I think what you do to your hair is very nice. I also have to say your absolutely gorgeous!!! If someone has a problem with the way you do your hair and there actually a professional hair stylist then they should give you helpful advice. That's what a professional would do. Not send hateful comments

scentered: Well done girl! You are a joy to watch x

B Cheung: I love your relaxed style and candidness! Thank you.

Laura Lynn: On my way to transitioning from major dark hair to highlights and gray.... so trying the purple mask... thanks for the tip Lou!

Katie Petkewich: It definitely made a small difference, and purple shampoo is something you can use a couple times a week!

Julie Giroux: I’m going out today to get that stuff. I have a Jhirmack low-tint version and it’s just not intense enough as it’s made for daily users - I only shampoo 2x a week as my hair doesn’t get really dirty . So my version has little or no effect but when I borrowed the high pigment version it made a huge difference. My yellows were gone and I was left with a very silvery silver, like a freshly minted quarter! Time to go to Sally’s. Thx sugar!

EllieBenadi: I see a small difference too. Joico makes a good purple shampoo that worked well for me. I think they have it at tjmaxx if you want to try it. You look great regardless, don’t worry about people’s comments.

Jessica Beaver: I really enjoyed your video. Your so natural and down to earth:) Your hair looks beautiful too! And yes there was a slight difference. Keep on doing you! I would recommend matrix brass off shampoo which is a blue violet and or the mask more blue w/little violet, omg they are both amazing I use them evertime i wash my hair and my hair is finally the shade i want. I leave it on for like 30 min to an hour but the mask is so strong only 15 works great! Purple shampoo was never strong enough for me.

Kim Villasenor: I see a subtle difference, Shimmer Lights dries out my scalp. Thanks for the video, my hair gets brassy just from my funky water!

Bradley Dedman: my hair gets rlly brassy when i get out of the pool so when i’m done swimming after a week or so, i put shimmer lights in my hair for 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how brassy it is and it changes so much. so i would recommend leaving it in for longer than she did if you want a bigger difference.

Thiccpersephone: The lather is actually what helps developer the purple, when you first out it in your hair while wet you rub it into your hair and theres a bunch of purple foam from the lather and you keep going until the lather goes almost white, you will noticed a difference probably a week after consistent use if you wash everyday but for 2 or 3 times a week wash schedule you wont notice drastic change for about a 3 weeks to a month but its def worth it

Ольга Нестеренко: I always dreamed of being a blonde, and finally the dream came true. But a week after painting, a yellow color began to appear. I was very upset, but a friend recommended an excellent Purple Hair Mask from the Vaite brand. After three applications, the yellow tint was gone.

Ethan Demarest: Honestly I think your hair color suits you and looks very nice! I did notice a difference with the purple shampoo but it was very slight.

M C: I did notice a difference. The purple side definitely looked blonder. I was glad to see that was the consensus. Nevertheless, your hair looks beautiful.

: I use purple shampoo and it makes a huge difference to my hair.

Jenbeautyglam: To get rid of the brass tone your hair with the Wella T14 toner using 20 volume developer

Hazel Blumberg-McKee: Thank you so much for your video! I henna'd my hair. I've done it in the past, and it's slowly and gently grown out. Not this time. The henna's been there for well over 6 months, and I have inches of "skunk stripe" down the middle of my head. I guess my hair's gotten whiter, coarser, more porous. So I tried everything I found on the Web about getting henna out. Of course, nothing worked. I went to Sally Beauty. They suggested a product, the name of which I've forgotten. It lightened the henna some. Yay! Then I went back again, and they suggested BLEACH. Well, a milder name for it. I thought, OK, why not? So now my hair is a cross between Johnny Winter and a creamsicle. I've been using purple shampoo and conditioner (L'Oreal), and sometimes it looks like it's taken out some of the orange. But it's not making a big difference. I want to--amazingly enough--get back to my gray-shading-to-white hair. I cut my hair--it was well below shoulder length--and it was nice to get rid of split ends and get more swing in my hair. In 2 days it's off to the hairdresser. I'm sure they'll be appalled at the color and my cutting job. Ah well. I guess I will NEVER do henna again, although I loved the red color. Sigh.

BluEyedWonder 87: I actually sort of love the purple look on you. DYE IT PURPLE!

Michelle Harris: You answered all my questions! Thank you mama!

Cinderelly: I have fun with my purple shampoo. My hair is naturally blonde and it pulls purple gray platinum sometimes blue tones depending on how long I leave it in. People always compliment my hair color and ask how I did it. Everyone's hair works differently, so just because something works for me, doesnt mean itll work for everyone.

BipolarChaos: Don’t let haters bully you. I can’t afford to get my hair done at a salon so I bleach my hair at home.

Linda Annino: Omg your personality is great and your beautiful. Your hair is great ,dont let mean people make u change what you like

MarissaC: I'm the same level 8 blonde as you are and purple shampoo tones my hair really well..I just have to leave it on at least 30 min to an hour. Since our hair isn't a lighter blonde, the directions for 5 min won't work on us. I'd rather take the time once a week to use the purple shampoo instead of a chemical toner. It leaves a really pretty neutral almost ash blonde.

Cindy Briggs: I don’t think your hair looks brassy. It looks strawberry blonde. Which looks natural for you.

Kasey Kesel: My favorite purple shampoos are the unite blonda toning shampoo, and the Amika purple shampoo , both smell good and not drying !!

Abby Enriquez: I’ve always loved your ideas and attitude to care about others! Keep it up

Kendra Parker: I see a little difference and I think it looks good with and without the purple shampoo

NeeNee Marie: I notice a very small difference! Great idea to test this out!

Majken Hansen: When I used purple shampoo the first time, I left it in for 40 minutes ;) And that made a huuuge difference!! So try that! And now I just mix it with my normal shampoo and put it in once in a while, it works!

Ree.thegemini: I think it definitely made a difference. Much brighter and less brassy.

Peggy Tyree: Godverdomme, you're right. Everybody has an opinion. I was a hair stylist for many years. I say do what makes you feel beautiful.

Diane Bays: I have used shimmer lights, and I hate it. It dries my hair out and smells terrible. I use fanola no orange, and I love it! The no orange is more for darker oranges and brassiness. I bet it would tone your hair!

Karman Jones: Just a tip, the purple shampoo needs to be used more than once. It just helps tone the yelloe over time.also remember when it comes to generic you get what you pay for, to an extent.thanks

Danielle Danekas: I left it all over my head for two hours on dry hair two days in a row. I used the conditioner. Toned perfectly. But my hair is already at level 10.

Saved 1978: What a Hoot!!!!! I've never put hair toners in my hair, wouldn't know where to start; I watch because I enjoy your brassy sense of humor' pun intended!!!!! Enjoy your videos!!!!!!!

Lala Booboo: The Joico purple shampoo works VERY well. You just have to catch the sale at Ulta to get the best deal.

SINternet Entertainment: I think your hair looks good and if your doing it yourself bravo for you it looks amazing.

9 9: The longer you leave it on the better. At least 30-45 minutes so it can saturate. Thanks for the great comparison vid!

Robyn Marie: Where's the brassy police? People need to just mind their own. You and your hair look beautiful all the time! Love you, Lou! ❤ #1 Louzer

Melissa H: I've seen people tone with the purple shampoo it works pretty well.

Kiki The Great: I absolutely see a difference. The purple side is less brassy. It looks so much better.

Curious Mind: Beautiful hair. Love the color!

Ziana Damaris Erickson: I see a bit difference. I actually bought the L’Oréal sulfate free brass toning purple shampoo today. I think I will try it the way you did it by applying it on dry hair first. Its the first time trying purple shampoo so we’ll see.

Cal s: Omg ! I use the Generic brand from sally's too because of the smell!!! The original shimmer lights smells hive inducing, i totally agree

Wendy D: Ok I'm going to just say it... Golden blonde hair is very beautiful and flattering for us over 40 as our skin is changing. White highlights with ashy undertones is way too harsh.

G Santini: Ok, good to know, I don't like the smell either. I laughed a lot & always enjoy your videos I speak several languages, Dutch included, and I think your sense of humor is great and don't feel the need to add my 2¢ in on actual meaning. You keep posting & I'll keep watching!

Tiffany Jackson: “I’m going to show you my part... not that part..” so dead. I love your sense of humor and was not expecting to laugh during this video. Thank you for that! I’m definitely subscribing!

Daniel Horvath: Girl you have to try the fanola no orange shampoo its beyond amazing, they also have a purple shampoo as well, super pro product.

Ellie B: If you can get ur hands on a brand called Milk shake , their purple shampoo is amazing I use it every 3rd wash and it keeps the yellowness out of my hair , my hairdresser recommended it and its a lifesaver .#use gloves and wet ur hair first

Phil Howe: What a lovely subtle difference ,lovely hair and great entertaining and informative video...thank u

nik p: i absolutely love your personality, idk what it is but it’s so to the point and non-chalant, youre great honestly

Magda Apanowicz: I love your humor and sensibility. Just subscribed, your charm grabbed my attention less then a minute one!

Kaitlyn Tiara Appleton: I can see a little difference! I think if you keep issuing it a few times a week your hair will appear lighter due to not as much brass!

Katie:D: I feel like you are genuinely such a sweet and caring person

amber mroz: I think your hair looks just fine ❤️.

Tickle ThyPickle: I tried to dye my hair a rosey peach colour and it came out a light ginger colour and now I embrace the brassy.

Emily Vang: Found this video to see if I should purple shampoo my blonde but continued watching because of this lady’s humor. She’s so funny

Faith Baker: It's a huge difference and the more you do it the brighter itll go.

C R: Seen a significant difference, screenshot before and after the shampoo it’s def brighter , nice work ☝

kristinatci7: Yes I can definitely see the difference. The purple shampoo worked. It would have worked better on wet hair bc water helps hair become more penetrable.

Julie Silva: I absolutely love your personality!!

Georg Simpson: <3 <3 <3 I have a mentally handicapped nephew, and work in a home for mentally disabled seniors. So watching a special person make such nice videos really warms my heart. You are really really talented and cool. love your vids :D

Allison: Shimmer lights dries the crap out of my hair. I use TiGi Catwalk Fashionista shampoo now to tone. The scent is heavenly and it doesn't dry out my hair. We have the same color hair so I watch all your videos! I usually color my hair strawberry blonde with clariol but now I use Age Beautiful from Sallys.

J Nelsimpson: Hey Lou! So brassiness refers to warmer tones (like orangeish or reddish tones) that blonde can pick up from the water you wash with, minerals etc. Don't know if its just me but I thought the side you washed with purple shampoo was a bit brighter after!

dragosanie: Okay hold up. You would actually look so good with purple hair

Meredith Wilson: I see a difference. Your purple side looks thicker and it's shinier!!

A: Definitely try it again on wet hair and leave in for at least 5 mins, it’ll work a treat

GeekyZombie: I definitely see a difference. It usually takes a few times.

CosturaDam: Hey! I see the difference, is not big but is there! Quick tip, start brushing your hair in the ends, otherwise you are going to lose too many hairs! Love the video ❤

Darnia Taylor: My mother was a beautician and she used Shimmer Lights on her clients who had gray hair and to take the brass out of blond hair & it always worked. I never knew there was another brand.

LadyMelissa4: Props for you for wearing white while trying this process. :)

Laurie Paris: The hits you take for us, Lou! I see a negligible difference between the two sides, that may simply be the result of lighting/incomplete drying of the non purple treated side. The effect is so slight, it may be placebo effect, too. No way would I say: hey look at that chick, her hair is two different colors. Well I might if you were Cruella de Vil, but I’d say it quietly. Perhaps successive treatments would have a cumulative effect? It’s not easy being female. So many products to save us from being us.

Brandy Folcarelli: I just think ur very funny and very entertaining. So thank you! I see No difference. I Bleached my hair a hundred times before I learned about a toner. Well maybe 6 times really but ur hair looks great. People can be crule and they are probably jealous they can't rock brassy hair.
