Laura Kaszoni (AKA Lala's Updos) demos a pulled-out fishtail braid at Pink Pewter's booth at America's Beauty Show 2016.

We know each other since i started to do classes. I think, like my second or my third class was with mustafa and we became friends and we've been friends since and i'm a big admirer of his work. So, let's start on the top um most of the braids that you see on my page are fishtails. Why uh the reason i use the fishtail technique versus of the french? I have discovered that the fishtail technique holds the hair better, especially when we have brides when we have pride mates that they dance, that they sweat they hit the sun and the heat, and everything is going down. So, in order to make that the braids last uh, i know you from somewhere, i never forget a pace so in order to make the hit the the fish, i'm a big big um, i'm big on feedback. So, every time i have a bride, i encourage them to text me and email me back and let me know how the style lasted so and they always do and by that they are helping me to improve my work and make my work class. So i have discovered that if i'm using the fish fishtail to make instead of the french, the braids are usually lasting longer. Well, what if you have a bride that wants a french braid and not a fishtail? Look right! There are some fries that they want. The big braids and they don't want a fishtail that looks like a fish right. Well, i'm still using the fishtail technique and i make it look like a french and that way my braids are lasting longer. So i'm gon na show you what i'm talking about. So we're gon na start on the top uh. Once again, please make sure when you do braids, especially when you're going for big braids, that you add extensions, you really need to add extensions. That will help you to keep the length, because when you do those big braids you're taking like half of the length off so when you're going to be done, they're going to end up with hair all the way here. So when you do that, if they go for that look, you're going to have to tell them from the start that you're going to need extensions for that to keep the length. We all know that the fishtail tip. Can we put this down. I'M like. I can't even see what i'm doing there we go, so we all know that the fish tails are two sections right going from the left to the right and adding from the right to the left. That'S what i'm doing with my first section now. Can you guys see how i kind of created a little bit of separation in my sections? I need that because one of those sections is going to be added in the middle and that's going to give me the look of a french braid. Instead of a fish tail, so that was my first section: can you guys see how i have a separation in there when i brought a little bit from the left to the right and from the right to the left, i got kind of like a separation into The into the section so half of that i'm bringing to my right hand, make sure you do not hold the braids the sections with three fingers, because you're gon na end up doing a french instead of a fish tail always hand. It hold that with your hands. That way, you're not gon na get confused, so i'm bringing half of that on my hand and i'm adding from the side. Okay, now again, i'm adding this one underneath and i'm adding from the side. Why do i add that metal section that middle section will help me to make that uh fish tail? Look like a french braid that will give me the design of a french braid. So again, i'm adding a little bit from the middle and then from the side. A little bit from the middle and then from the side make sure that you keep your section at the level where you hold your hands, meaning if my hands are over here, do not grab hair from there. Here, that's not going to work so again, adding that middle section and then we're adding from the side. This is one section, but i'm taking half of that and i'm adding it into the middle and then i'm adding the side and i'm taking that middle section again and i'm adding from the side now. This is the time when you start to pull. I see a lot of people going all the way down with their braids, and then they start to pull and that's when it gets it gets messy and there is no way to make it big. Why? Because you do not have the flexibility to pull the hair in order to have the flexibility to pull the hair, the hair needs to be open, not secured. Right and again, it needs to be clean and flexible, so we're going to start to pull. But we are not going to pull the sides. We are pulling just that metal section that we added that's gon na give us. This is what you're calling right here: okay, you're gon na go and like break two three roads and then you're gon na pull two three roads and then you're gon na pull. Can you guys see i'm not even pulling i'm kind of like thinning and that's what that middle section did instead of making the the braid look like a fishtail, it made it look like a french braid, the middle like right here, not the sides, just the middle. Yes and when you're pulling, if you do not have nails you're going to have to pull, but if you do have nails do the fanning instead of the pulling it's going to help you to keep that plate like really clean and easy. So get some nails. And i'm going to turn her around for you guys to see too, and you can pull as much as you want when you have a french braid when you start to pull that much, the hair is going to come out, especially when you have short layers, but The way the fishtail holds the hair, because it's inside you have to look at the flexibility to pull more make. It look big and it's going to hold the hair really well, that's why i prefer the fishtail tipping versus of the french, so you can still do the fishtail and make it look like a french braid now make sure that you keep your the hair tight. Do not lose that when you start to pull the hair so we're again we're adding the metal and then the side, the metal and keep it clean like just hurry here. Where did mustafa? Go you guys, don't leave? You need to see mustafa in action so middle. Now, when you put that middle section, there is a trick there as well, when you put that middle section, when you add that, if it's very small and when you pull it, you're not going to be able to see anything, it's not going to show so the Thicker and the bigger the middle section, the rounder is going to be and the more it's going to look like a french versus of a fish tail. The thinner is going to be the more it's going to look like the fish. Still the thicker, the more it's going to look like a french braid. So remember that and again, you're braiding, like two three rows and then you're gon na start to pull again and two three rows and then you're gon na start to pull again do not go all the way down. That'S the secret of having the big braids. You have to pull as you go, do not go all the way down secure and then try to pull. That'S not gon na work, so the middle, and now we start to pull again and i'm gon na turn her around. Let me do this because they saw this already, so this is what we're pulling just the middle. Can you guys see so i'm not pulling the sides, i'm just pulling the pedal so that middle section makes it look like a fit, because i took a really big section. I made it look like a french braid instead of a fishtail, but i used the fish shelving you guys saw. I just took like two sections and once you're done, you can always go back and pull i'm more gon na do this. So can everybody can see so we're still going with the fishtail technique, but have in mind that you need to take thick sections in order to make those plates look around and make it look like a french braid. You need to take thick sections because, usually when we do the fishtail we're going with this and that's how we keep that v-section, that makes it look like a fishtail and always when you're pulling make sure that you're pulling from the bottom up, not from the top Down when i get here, i need to have enough hair to pull and if i start here, i'm not going to have any hair and i'm going to make it really messy. And if, if they do have short layers, i recommend you to curl the hair. Before again, they're going to stick out but they're going to bend around that plate more because it's curly, they got they're not going to stick out the way they do now. Does this look like a fish tail now? Do you guys see what i? What i did here when i added that i kept my hands up so when you put the hair down, that's what you're gon na end up with so make sure when you braid you keep your hands close to the scalp. Do not over direct the hair. Don'T keep your hands up when you do that? This is what you're going to end up with you're, just going to go with a ponytail, a bobby, pin and fix that the bobby pins are just for fixing. Can you hand me a rubber band? Please and of course, when you're done, you're gon na go with the hairspray and set the hair in style and style in place, and then you can go back and pull more if they do not have a lot of layers. No good. Let me just fix that. So that's how you make the fishtail look like a french braid
