Tyra Banks has done it: She has donned the wigs and finally revealed her natural hair on the Tyra Banks show on September 8, 2009. To commensurate this great moment for natural African American hair, Scissorboy brings you a very special episode featuring more ideas for getting natural African American Hairstyles with Ms. Keeli Harris from Kandills Salon and Spa in Oakland, CA.

Keeli calls this hairstyle a clipper over comb short cut which leaves the option of leaving her natural African American hair, very much like Tyra did by revealing the Tyra Banks Natural Hair look to kick off the new season of her talk show last night to the world.

I think you will agree that Keeli does a tremendous job in keeping her clients natural hair flattering yet allowing them to add a little bit of spice to their natural African American hairstyles.

Congratulations to Tyra Banks for having the courage to don her natural African American hair and inspire other women to do the same.

We are here in beautiful, Oakland. California, scissor boys very excited. It'S only about 20 minutes from San Francisco. It'S about 15 20 minutes. Just over the bridge. Today we're going to interview Kili at her salon candles. Let'S go high five yeah sweaty boy. Let'S go put some hair hello, hello, hi. How are you Keaney nice to see you and Sabrina the madam? Are you excited to get your hair done? I am Chie. Are you excited to do hair? What are we going to always? What are we going to do today? I'M gon na do a clipper combination, clipper and scissor short cut, and what I do is I cut clipper over comb. So how would you have to take into consideration the texture of the Hat today? Well, I'm taking into consideration the fact that Sabrina's hair is is really a curly texture and so, rather than taking her down too close, I can cut so that the hair, the wave pattern just flows rather than cutting in too deep and taking out too much weight. I don't really want to take out any weight. I just want to enhance the waves. This is pretty much what I use all the time I usually either use clipper over comb technique or I use a guard and clipper over comb is, is pretty much. I guess. You'D say like freehand cutting so now what you do now, I'm blending it I'm layering it and I'm blending leaving most of her limp. All of her live pretty much on the top, but right here through the crown and through the sides, I'm gon na blend this because she has length here. So the other thing is that, while I'm giving her this cut, she also has the option of wearing her hair natural, with just a watch and some conditioner or a little bit of oil on her hair and she can wear it curly as well. I guess you would probably say I'm cutting it like a 45 degree angle right through the back and then, as I go up, I'm doing a little bit less and I'm almost making it flat through the time I'm just trying to leave as much length in the Pot as possible in the front, because I want to lift this up the more height you have the more dramatic my tech and that's what we want. We want a little bit of drama, but not too much because she still has to go to work. So is this that you're spraying on this is fritz? That'S right. I tell - and it's like my favorite hairspray right now, because it gives you enough whole, but it's not a really firm hold so that your hair is really stiff and if they, if my clients want to curl their hair again sometime during the week, they can curl Their hair, without their hair being too stiff and sticky Keeney's, going to Flatiron Sabrina with what kind of flat tire I'm going to use. My simmer, I'm gon na start out with my ceramic on her so grimy how big of the sections that you're doing! I guess probably not quite a finger length, maybe like to the middle of my finger. Sometimes I may take a little bit bigger section because I usually spike the hair son. I spiked it some with my comb. You know the end of the comb as I'm finishing up. Why do you clip it to make it lay forward rather than back, and then I can keep curling without the curls getting in the way, don't wait to see the finished product so exciting? This is a Marcel iron. This is a flash valve. This is a flat iron as well. It sounds right, Sam Marcel, it's a Marcel iron. I use it for silking the hair and what it does is it allows you to curl or flat iron. This short, the really short parts of there and it's silking, because it it looks like so yeah. So how is the Marcel Flatiron different than all the other ceramic ones? Well, the flat iron is different in the way it's made. It'S got a flat flat surface. The curling arms, which are Marcel's as well, they are around it, they have around around base and not quite flat, but the top piece fits rounded as well. So that gives you a curl. I use them because they are really popular in the black salons, but the ceramic irons are becoming really popular now as well. But the thing is I like being able to create works that are flattering, but at the same time I everybody can use this ceramic iron, and I don't always use these because I don't want my clients to feel like they can just go home and create the Same with the same iron, these Marseilles are a professional item and not everybody is going to go home and use this, and so that's what I try to avoid. Do you have one? No, no, no, so that makes them coming into yours. They come into your salon because you have them myself. Very smart. Talk me through what you're doing I'm just taking out the parts you know from when I parted her to curl her and smoothing it out some. I think I better go back and add just a little bit of oil just like just to give her some shine. I like cooking oil, hair specially formulated for the hair, looking very nice, so what you go you're going in and cutting some more. So it's training on I'm curling, some just to give it a little more direction and to make it stand up some because before it wasn't quite standing like I like this, so if it doesn't stand in the right direction, then you need to curl it serve. It bump it into shape yeah there she goes yeah. I, like the word, I'm going to do some everyday makeup, I'm doing a little bit of concealer and you can apply this usually with your fingers, which is a really good or a for. You know for nighttime or something dramatic or a special event. You might want to use a little bit more. So maybe you'll use a brush, but I don't want it to be too intense because she's going to work, are you putting concealer on her lips as well? It'S why? Yes, because I want everything to be even tone and usually around your lips. Your lips are either a little bit darker or a little bit lighter and same thing with your eyes, makes the lipsticks phantom operative. Oh really so you're doing somebody's hair, and how do you bring up the fact that you do makeup just throw it in there? Oh, I usually throw it in as an extra service or if I know that clients are going to a special event or something I offer to do their makeup, for you charge them for it. Yes, I did how much I usually charge like $ 40 for makeup, depending on what I'm doing, if it's not anything, really dramatic, I'll charge 40 and up I'm gon na give her make her a little. Her eyebrows stand out a little bit more with a little pencil. Okay, Thank You, Sabrina for being on my doll. You'Re welcome, I'm kinky Lee for showing us the mullet and a makeover. Thank you. So, let's all do snip snip ready, never know.

fuschiadea: 5:35 I've never been able to reproduce my hair exactly as any hairdresser ever had while I was in a salon. They're pros. Of course they can do hair better than their clients, but that's no reason for them not to do their best with their tools, just cause we can't reproduce the look. If I pay a pro I want to look fabulous!

Penelope416: God I love that natural lady's hair! So beautiful and confident. AND them tear drop earrings. NATURAL LADIES REPRESENT!!! WOOP WOOP!

Matt T.: Scissorboy Rocks!!! Great video and great ideas for styling ethnic hair.

Cassygail228: I absolutely love Miss Kelli's hair it rocks

Coach Brown : There are 2 types of handles for Curling Irons: Spring Type - means that you will use your thumb to open the iron, and a spring will close the iron. Spring type irons are normally found in the home. Marcel Type - means that your hand will close and open the iron. There is no spring to cause the iron to close. Your hand controls the pressure on the hair. Marcel irons are used by professionals in a Salon since it is more versatile when working with the hair. (handle can rotate)

Ebony Williams®: do a tutorial on the stylist hair...it is beautiful and I love her style!!!

Djamburere: The stylist's hair got me coming back to this video after more than a year, so I can screenshot it and show my own hairdresser. It rocks!

lola8722: You did a great job on your client, and you rockin that curly fro.

sahnie82: Keeli's hair is beautiful!

fganus: I agree. Her hair is beautiful.

petjamaica09: i love the hairstylist 's hair a lot its natural n beautiful .

bibliophreak: Ms. Keeli's hair is the bomb!

expertonmyself: love ms. keeli's hair.

ScissorBoy: Thank you for the positive explanation, instead of jumping on the negative bandwagon that some are posting with. These people have no videos of their own to showcase and have nothing to contribute except their negative comments. Seems like they have too much time on their hands. Bottom line is if you do not like the video, then move on!

Vanie's Life: Keeli hair is just fabulous!!!!

Chenell: The look of confusion on her face when she heard "spritz"... priceless lmao

Coily Gal: both the stylist and the client's hair looks great ..why did so much people dislike?...pssh

barritube1: Actually it isn't a dumb question. We use olive, avocado and coconut oil on our hair and that can be used as cooking oil too.

lexaneli: great video, it was fun to watch

Omani TV: ms kelli got beautiful hair!

Brittany Thomas: Ethnic by definition is of or relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition. Ethnic doesn't JUST mean black..Please use the term correctly next time.

hyacinthdibley: Poor interviewer getting all this hate on YT. I was laughing sometimes at her gestures and postures. She looked so confused. But i think what annoyed me a little was the fact that she kept staring at the stylist instead of at the hair that she was showing her. But then again, I think she was just admiring the stylist's hair. Honestly. Anyway, she looked like "ok, what do I do now?"

doreen bloggs: i actually liked the hairdressers hair, thats what attracted me to watch video

FalafellFo: btw the stylist's hair rocks!!

Yolanda Gibson: I love the hair dresser's haircut

Lord Help: that was really cute she did a good job snip snip.

kcl060: I agree! I do NOT like to go into a salon and see them using a Conair or Gold N Hot plug-in flat iron. That is a huge turn off for me. When you want your hair straight, the marcel is much better for most black hair textures.

blaq soul: The interviewer was very amateur. I think Keeli did a wonderful job!

Lord Help: nice job keely!

MysTaria87: lmao <3 love it.

Joy Williams: nice hair and make-up! @EbonyGirlSpeaks, I love the stylists hair too!

MissMiniATVEVO: Love Ethiopian people I'm from there as well C: but I have other races in me.

Sheena Belton: The stylist really held her composer, i probably would have put the host in her place!

JazellesArtistry: I think its so funny how the interviewer keeps turning to the camera as if to say... "are u getting this?"

Natural Denna Mug: the hairstylest hair looks beautiful!

anye76: The stylist hair was sharp & I loved her earrings. The client's hair looked great as did her makeup. New tip put concleaer on your lips. Never thought about doing that. The cooking oil and mullet comment were funny and sad at the same time. The hostest did look confused as she was doing the interview, almost like she had no idea what she was going to ask or what she was watching. Somehow I think she was acting "dumb" there is no way she got this job reporting on hair and knows nothing about it.

Nikki: I love the stylist's fro too. Can we find out more about her hair care. Both styles are pretty but I am natural without a perm.

Sam Ira: The stylist hair is great!!!

EclecticCaliGirl: OMG!vThat's my old home! I lived 2 blocks up from Lake Merrit! It was awesome to see that!

Lina Devon: @thekiddartist She did a show called "What is Good Hair?" She also actually has natural hair.

Ronell Grant: This girl has no direction Love the hair

crisse: I was really excited that this video represented my hometown Oakland - until I saw this unprofessional host on here. She asked the dumbest questions, and my favorite one " are you using cooking oil"? She showed her ignorance throughout the video. The stylist was great, but the host made the video look pretty bad. This was disappointing...

stewartyn30: The hair stylist's hair is dope

lexaneli: can someone please tell me how did the hairdresser got her hair that style, I like it, thank you

Blac Phoenix: i have those flat irons! but im natural so i only use them on my weaves

unicqueky: Can I get the last 7 minutes of my life back!?!?

Ruubo: Maybe she really wanted to know or feature African American hair. Anyho I am feeling Ms Keeli's hair!!!

anoe hontoa ahnoyei: Kool HAIR~ the host asks great questions

Venusstar22: LESSON LEARNT FROM WATCHING THIS VIDEO: Often when you are UNEDUCATED about something...you try to play it up by using poor humor to conceal the fact that you are IGNORANT about the subject. I assume that if you are planning on doing an interview that you'd read up enough on the subject matter BEFORE you go on camera to ask questions.....if you don't do your homework, you often appear CLUELESS (hence the interviewer)..thats why she didnt have any real questions to ask and appeared dumb.

lalatyty07: I like the hairdresser's hair too.

Tyler Preece: i love the marcels :)

Bitt chy: i love miss kellie's hair-do

Life as Evette: The woman cutting the hair...her hair is fierce!

Kaneza T.: this interviewer is unprofessional and kinda annoying but i love the hairstyle :)

Carolyn Chase: $40 for makeup??? Maybe I'm just cheap or I heard wrong

LilMizzLae: @faithbena LMSO!! Wow. That is hilarious! Thanks for pointing that out haha

hentizne: Sooo tired of seeing and hearing "ethnic" hair when talking about black hair. EVERYONE belongs to an ethnicity so EVERYONE has ethnic hair!!!

QUIET STORM: EVOO is used as a conditioner for African American Hair. It's not something you should just slap on curl your hair with and go. It's whats inside the Olive Oil that keeps our scalp and hair folicle healthy.

Michele J: much more interested in ms.keelis fabulous hair!

gypsyrose: Ok, everyone keeps commenting on the "dumb questions" the host keeps asking, well the only reason she probably keeps asking "dumb questions" is so that the viewers can know whats going on. These videos are meant for people who don't know how to do hair, so therefore someone may not know what oil she is using and may think "cooking oil?" So she had the stylist clarify what she was doing so that someone who doesn't know can understand .

Paige Scott: Never let a white girl into a black salon lol. Good lord! She got on my nerves & I wasnt even there haha.

Janelle Guild: I think the client has natural hair too. I think she is cutting the permed hair off. It is just that her hair is too short to look kinky so it looks more wavy.

TherealLucysmom: @thescissorboy her natural waves look qreat!

misMITU: great stylist, but the interviewer could have done more research, she seemed completely clueless

N'kechi IMAN: @Applerizi not all black people have short hair however the people that do tend to explain that shorter hair is easier to maintain for them..

Carol Cook: COOKING OIL, I guess they think we use LARD too!!! I use coconut & olive oil (only) jeesh!!

rocklesson86: Actually some blacks do use cooking for their hair. I use olive, coconut, and avocado oil for my hair. It is healthier.

BIVISTYLE: so true!

ChepiFairy: Cute..I love Ur accent

justjamia: haha lol she asked if it was cooking oil XD but hey she simply didnt know

unicqueky: The hairstylist looks utterly ANNOYED with this unprofessional interviewer'! I would be too!! What was the purpose of this video?! Can I get the last 7 minutes of my life back!?!?

lovennappiness: @0815Bla me too... I love love love it....

TL Crumbley: Cooking oil?! Really?! I haven't heard anyone say that in about 15 years. SMH wow!

Micah Jasz: @mereje african american hair from blacks to mixed, there's different types of hair types and grains of black hair n its all different but its still black hair dats y we call it ethnic.

OfficerHoocks: HOOOOO I love the stylist`s fro

Naturally Beautiful: @LilacStar82 Yea really I agree 100%

Blac Phoenix: @0815Bla ya took the words outta my mouth!

kitabare76: @Juceefrootlitious I totally agree with you!!!LOL!

Rachel Harris: this video would have been awesome with a different host.

xlxAbby0Princessxlx: I have the black hair stylist's earrings!

High Maintenance Minimalist: That interviewer acts *just* like my 4-year-old cousin.

RNYLocHivé: i like the stylists hair... yep thats it

MysTaria87: The interviewer seems uncomfortable for some reason.

MissLinCee: MY MY MY, that man in the red top was HOT!!

It’s Jaquetta Duhhh: $40 for that makeup look and she didn't do anything special. Nope not me, wouldn't do it but the hair was nice.

southernfriedpeachestv: @p2htrinity sooo true!

ScissorBoy: Laugh all you want, @ Mactyi415 inappropriately rude comments got her banned and the comment deleted. Rehashing negativity over and over gets old FAST. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, MOVE ON!

kearadoesalot: 40 dollars for that makeover? no thanks

msalbarbie: And one more thing, I hope the brit twunt reads this, You could have been nice and cut the recording and let her know what you expect from her! YOU could have just let her know or remind or coach her off camera on what you need her to do ON CAMERA! But then you would have to be a decent human being to do that!

dramabitchespolitics: why do they call it ethnic hair? I never understand that.

Ky: @fuschiadea It's not British! It's more Austrailian/ Or even South African. Definitely not British though! American accents are not exactly not annoying! lol

brownsugr111: Can you please show me where Tyra Banks is.. then I might be able to take this a little more seriously, cause it doesn't seem like anything in this video is right..

Bria Lynn: WHY DOES THE TITLE SAY TYRA IF THERE IS NO TYRA?

Marsha Ann: i looove the stylists hair! that girl in the chair has NO hair!

Christina Crutchfield: @Viloveshero it was relaxed it was just the first time she wasn't wearing a weeve or a wig

Xavy: That lady looks so awkward and foolish standing there, randomly smiling at the camera, and repeating words that Keely says. She doesn't know what to do or say. smh.. what's her job again ?

gypsygrl1: ummmmm . . . this is not a "natural" hairstyle, she's flat ironing - I'm not saying that it's not a nice hairstyle

Grant Sharp: Yay, thanks for your contribution. Where are your videos?

Jasmine Murcia: Yeah! White girl needs to learn Moore about hair.. No being mean, cooking oil lol too funny

Sabrina Lee: $40 for makeup??
