100 Years of Updos | Allure

des: you know what would be so dope? if they had people from these decades and have them recreate their favorite hairstyles/looks from their time

Emma Bennett: Where is my messy bun? That’s a 2010 staple

Michelle Fitzpatrick: Thank you for using models of different sizes and ethnicities. LOVE IT!

Marie_xoxo __: These videos' hairstyles are disappointingly incorrect. No one actually wore the Leia buns in the seventies for example.

Sean W. Go: You’d think with over a million subscribers, they could afford to hire better researchers.

Vivling: Oh my, as a fashion historian, these are a nightmare to watch.

Allana Alberto: I like how diverse the models are in terms of color and even shapes.. They all look so beautiful

Queen Mimi: I loved these! Also, good job for using different hair types!

Ru-chan At Home: I can barely even get my hair into a bun. Never mind an updo These hairstyles are epic tho. Wish I could do one. I might as well just stick to trying to untangle the knots in my hair.

Thomas Kirkness-Little: This stuff is so interesting, I especially enjoyed seeing how some were done.

Roxyricki: Space buns were a 90s/early 00s thing, it was a retro throw bk when they started trending again recently

Tiffani Farrington: Lol everyone had those damn butterflies. I used to rock the Snooki poof and I swear every month it got higher and higher with more hairspray than before. I used to carry Aqua net in my purse! Lol

Life100: Oh the 1990’s with the butterfly clips That was soo me! I had a collection of them different colors and glitter. I didn’t get mines at Claire’s though but the dollar store.

Haley420: Thank goodness I wasn't alive when the "beehive" was in style! It seems like it would take hours to get ready

Jacinda Bezaldo: Also no way in hell Jackie Kennedy would be caught in a hairstyle like that. Too tall, too round, and you could not wear a hat with it.

themusicoreo: I love how "space buns" is 2010 after kids trying to recreate 90s fashion... Where are any braids. Ever. Also 70s upstyle there was alot more than starwars parties in the 70s

DJ Shock Africa: I love the vintage hairstyles, the gardenia Billie Holiday one is especially pretty 1:20!

Florian Hargreeves: Both the 1920s styles were so elegant and pretty ❤️

Probably Audrey: the 2000's "pompadour pouf" looks more like an actual beehive than the one they did for the 60's...

PARIS GIIRL!!: When Amy Winehouse came out I was such a fan (I still am to till this day) Rip Beautiful with her beehive hair look I was straight away hooked and had to get it and I also dyed my hair mega black too. I would always have my hair teased at the back.

loveforeignaccents: Well, I found this fascinating and love how much fun all of these beautiful ladies had too!

Indiegirl007: Oh God. The 90's was actually my gothy hairstyle during the early 00's.

Theresa B: That lady wearing the butterfly clips is soooo stunning ❤

C. S.: Out of all updos why the Leia buns the movie was a success but no one actually did Leia buns ,such a disappointment out of all the 70s up dos

Nicoletta Carlone: Alot of inaccuracies, but I love ladies' style with the Gardenias.

1920's Flapper Girl: From the bob hair of the 1920's to the victory curls in the 1940's the 20th century sure was a great time and will be truly missed...

Natalie: it’s a shame some stylists can’t create looks in any style other than 2010’s

Essuna: I am so happy to see the butterfly pins! When I was a kid I had lots of those and we also used this plastic colorful hair bands (which were killer for the hair, gosh the damage) and these plastic zig zag head bands! Being a kid on the 90's was pretty colorful. I also appreciate you can see a little more of world wide trends in this video than just U.S trends (yes yes, I know it is a usa youtube channel focused on "american" content, but still is nice).

Banana Banana: You really need to do better, more thorough research and hire stylists who know how to replicate historical fashions if you're going to continue this series.

Username: Please do a hairstylist’s full routine video I want to do cosmetology,it’d be very interesting!.

ShesooBreezy: Can you do one for the men? 100 years of exercise, hairstyles, and others for the men.

Judith N: I wear the last one hundreds of times, it's very comfortable

Araceli Acebedo: I know 2020 is coming soon but it bothers me that they didn't include 1910 lol. The updos of that time, in my opinion, were lovely.

Taylor Castle: I find it interesting for the Princess Leia (i spelled her name wrong) buns that these buns are used in Native American tribes for ceremonies. In a way you can say they were used widely in these areas, but we just do not think about them

Susan Wagner: Wow... crazy how styles develope

We Got This Together: Once again this is mostly innacurate. They didn't even try for the 1970s.

Elli: The 2nd 1920s model is sooooooo beautiful!

Chad Bell: There were so many 90's and 2k types of black women updos you could have highlighted. you could have used the movie BAPS as a reference or reviewed old daytime talk-show videos for inspiration.

Aimless Alix: 7:00 okay but we had a group of girls in our high school who looked sorta like this everyday more poofed and heavy makeup they looked crazy

Eunae Kim: For the 1940s, it was practically a requirement for women to put their hair in some kind of updo, because they were the ones who worked in the factories and the production lines!

Confused Potato: Yeah, space buns were invented and hit the scene in the early to mid 90s when I was growing up. Don't try too pass it off af a modern thing please.

Carmen L: These are all fantastic!

Cat 666: Am I the only one who feels that glamour is the only channel that actually does this well?

Jaimie Clark-Boutcher: I love that the 70s is the Star Wars buns since no one wore their hair up in the 70s.

May Carvana: 0:41 I’m soooooo envious of her gorgeous hair

Aubrey Richardson: I love all of these styles! Maybe because I’m weird ‍♀️

Amanda F: I definitely did the butterfly clips . I was a 90s kid and a 2000s teen.

Miriam Havard: Y'all did that FIRST model wrong. With that lipstick look!!! The plump Black lady is my FAVORITE!!!!

Sailor Swifty: people might have done a smaller version and higher up of leia's buns in the 70's. but we all know the space buns in the 2010's was thanks to Leia and Sailor Moon.

Denise Diaz: They should do over 100 years cause they missed out some of the most iconic updo's of all time, Like regency era, revolutionary France era, Victorian and the Gibson girl of the 1900's-10's.

What’s the Niche?: I could never do the 1950’s poodle style on myself everyday. My arms wouldn’t allow it.

gy: 3:28 when u tryna sneak snacks inside the cinema

Анна Сафронова: The red-hair girl is a perfect Ginevra Weasley!

Krystal Dispatch Bettty Mcginty Carter: There is so many inaccuracies here. The 90's were more than grunge and butterfly clips. The late 90's were mostly dominated by the barrwl curl updo. That 60's style was more popular with the Go Go groups. 60's women often wore french rolls and side swept bangs. Women in the 50"s didnt all look like Lucille Ball. The 40's werent all about the rosie the riveter look. That was the equivalent of us putting our hair in ponytails. Fornal updos in the 40's were all abput half up, half down and they wore victory rolls. The 30's women were in the depression. The average woman was working in dry farm fields. They wore hats, not expensive flowers, because they didnt have the money to set and roll their hair. Their updo for fancy events consisted of pin curls combed into bobs. The 20's werent all about the flapper look. Women actually DID cut their hair, not fake it with long hair and they set their hair with setting lotion, a comb and their fingers. Most didnt wear headbands, giant flowers, and sparkly hair pieces unless it was a VERY special occasion. They would set their hair and sleep in a kerchief so it would stay and either went bare headed or wore a hat. Could you actually do your research and look at actual women and not pop culture?

stvp68: Some of the earlier styles shown here make me wonder how women who didn’t have access to a stylist could do them on their own.

Industrial Cathedral: No victory rolls? the only 40s look they know seems to be Rosie. Nothing more

Gracie Drury: You should totally do a 100 yes of children's games

Brandy Loutherback: In the 1920s hair was pulled into a chignon at the nape with puffs at the ears mimicking the bob hair cuts! In the mid- late 1920's Marcel waves were in, be it in faux bob or real bob.

rosesarebluesometime: The girl from the 80’s has the most genuine and adorable expressions, I hope she’s having a good day

Sister Shay For Christ Jesus: The 1990s was correct, I wear that style many many times like that with the butterfly clips.

M E: I've only ever seen messy topknots, never sleek ones

Azrira Threesixty: 1960s lady: They say I'm too short for the rollar coaster. 1960s Hairdresser: I got you fam.

hayabusahime: I cringed at the 90s segment. Not a single basket or corn rolls with water falls. Or the basket with waterfall swoop combo. That look was iconic for black women.

Sheila Pate: That beehive takes some work. And that poodle hair style I thought it was called a French roll. We used to use some kind of stuffing in our hair to make the roll bigger

Mikki220: The last style was more 70s than the Star Wars thing.

nangialai: Pls do a 100 years of lipstick styles. Thank you!

Lachrechia M Johnson: For Black girls in the rebirth of hair styles in the 60's happen. French rolls w/ high buns in the front. Bulks of hair used for ponytails. Lol. All the styles were familiar and that is due to that was all we would see on television. In "urban areas" it was always fly.

Amber: Umm, people are complaining about how these hairstyles were inaccurate...how? Yes, they were mostly commerical hairstyles but they fit each era. I definitely know the 80s & so forth was accurate. I lived through it.

luvsofia: Okay but, the curvy girl has the prettiest smile ever

K: I can appreciate a non-black person who knows how to lay down a black person’s edges

Theron Anderson: Poodle hairstyles are 1940s, brought to popularity by Betty Grable and Lucille Ball. They're also the easiest vintage hairstyle. I wish y'all used people who actually know what they're doing

ThisIsViridus: My four-year-old watched this with me and commented that the last one was "like Mickey Mouse."

kraXoom: My sister loved those butterfly clips. You haven’t felt paid until you’ve stepped on one of those.

MLee F.S: 8:41 That model looks like Monica Belucci, super gorgeous!

Irene: I actually in LOVE with this kind of videos but you should that this un europe

Libby Peery: Jesus, I walked into this place once with my aunt to get my really thick hair put up in an updo and it was really cute but gross. It was this really cute bun kind of thing and it had curls in it the gross part was that the guy had used so much hair spray that my brown hair turned black and crunchy and i found bobbys and small rubber bands WEEKS after my brother's wedding. I still think it was super cute even though it was crunchier than a bag of chips

criticalhard: The 40's girl is so beautiful omgggg. + the 60's one was very good and the 70's was so wrong lmao.

Devyon Brown: These are so historically inaccurate. Also, the stylists clearly don’t know how to maneuver either of the black models hair correctly ‍♀️

Nicole Wesley: Seriously only ones I liked were 1980s, 1990s hairstyle with butterfly clips and Afro puffs(refuse to call them space buns)

Majaila: That 2010’s girl looks like a darker version of Kristin from Ladylike

Kirti White: Thank you for showcasing women who aren't just white! So many of the videos like this are way too WASPY!

Hollis Jo: Wait, so a PRINCESS in a SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE portrays the most popular of the 70s? I thought they were going to say that people were inspired by her hairstyle, but nope, a girl in a movie wore this hairstyle.

Gloria: Were there really no popular updos in the 70's? Leia may be iconic, but normal women weren't wearing the style for daily life.

gy: I couldn't even get a messy bun

brunadora1: Who else was sad when they covered up the victory roles in the 1940s look!?

Indiegirl007: Awww, the Billie Holiday one. ❤️

Becki Worden: I wore a banana clip even when I was in eighth grade and that was probably in 94 LOL. I liked that it looked like I had a mohawk

茶姑娘Teawaii: I born in 2010, and I'm glad that the hairstyles were pretty. I was like "Plz be pretty, plz be pretty, PLZ BE PRETTY!!!"

Dakota Stewart!: 1980s girl you are so fudging cute your smile just yass I wanna hug :)

Justin Seagull: Love it

Niko Chaij: So are they just gonna ignore the 1910s cuz all hair was up in the 1910s (and this is so stuck-up-like but 1919-2019 is 100 years)

What’s the Niche?: The 1930’s model is beautiful! What a face!

Leia Isaacs: Love these

What’s the Niche?: The 1990’s model is beautiful too. Reminds me of Aaliyah.

Natalie Solano: I cant even do a donut bun correctly

Lexie02 Jones: I just want to say the woman at 8:42 minutes is GORGEOUS! I mean look at HER! she looks like a star or celebrity. 0o0!

iLoveMyNancyDrew147 _: 2:44 she seriously looked like Lucille Ball for a second there!

Yadanar Thin Gha: I can only do low ponytail. Wait, what? That's become my logo. Lol.

Val Smith: honestly I see wayyyyyyyyyyy more messy buns and high ponytails then space buns, but I mean the research for 100 years cant be easy, so I'm chill

Malibu7Seven: Space buns were totally a 90's thing that some Kardashian wore once & became trendy. 2010 you can't steal my space buns! Lol Who remembers Gwen w blue space buns
