First of all, we're going to do our hair prep, So this is using my kind of super speedy texture, hair prep technique, which is basically loads of mousse, blow drying the hair and then you're ready to start your curling and the styling.. So I'm going to use my L'Oréal Volume, Lift Mousse. And start applying it into the hair, a layer at a time and then brush through the hair.. Then we're going to ask Kaylee to put her head kind of upside down and whilst she's brushing through the hair. I'M going with the Tangle Teezer I'm going to dry the hair.. We'Ve got a lot of volume and we've got a lot of texture and we're ready to start our styling So start off just getting a circle of hair here on the crown.. So let's get our foundation first and I'm going to give this bit of hair a bit of lift here. So it's not too kind of tight coming into the ponytail.. So if I just put a touch of hairspray in it will just help that back combing to hold and then when we bring this back, we're going to get a nice kind of slightly softened section here at the front.. And I'm going to add another band onto here to secure this soft bit of hair to the ponytail. And you can loosen it just a little bit if you want to.. So I'm going to split this ponytail into three and we're going to use here. We want a really strong curl, so I'm going to use my Infinium Stronghold, Hairspray. Generous amount of hairspray and we're going to use our vintage curl technique. If you're not sure how to use this technique, have a look at our Vintage Tongue Technique Tutorial. It'S a bit of a mouthful and you'll find out how to create this really super strong curl in the hair. Just lift the clamp to loosen the hair. And another curl. You want a nice strong curl in the hair and just clip just to allow it to cool down for just a moment., And then we're going to use a bit of padding on this section. So, just while those curls cool down for a second, let's just create our padding for this style., So we're going to use our Afro kinky hair. So you get a bit of volume, but you can also manipulate it and get it to be the shape that you want it to be.. Then you're going to wrap your Afro kinky hair in the padding in the piece of donut, and this is going to give us a really great foundation to pin the hair to when we create the style. To hold it together. Pick up a little bit of donut. Take that over to the other side a little bit just there there's the end. There do your up and over with the pin and back in.. So we've got our padding Now, let's continue with our style and here what I'm going to do is just push those curls forwards and pop the padding just on top of those curls and on top of the ponytail.. You can use that ponytail as our anchor and I'm using the up and over technique here. So I'm going into the donut not too high up not up here. You can see it there, but more kind of, but down here, close to the edge of the padding and go under and into that hair band. Underneath. Go all the way around.. Now we do have tutorials showing a quick tip tutorial, showing exactly how to use this up and over technique here.. So if you do need any help That should feel nice and secure now. And now all we need to do is work with our curls.. Don'T kind of separate them. We're literally going to work with the shape of the curls as it is. You can maybe loosen it a little bit, but we're not doing that thing where we kind of pull our fingers through the curls.. We'Re just going to work with this lovely, strong curl that we've got. And I'm holding that curl flat against the donut, and I'm just going to use a bobby, pin and secure the hair to the donut.. It'S that easy! Basically, all we're doing is just using our bobby pins, so we've got our bobby, pin there holding the hair flat and popping the bobby pin over the hair and into the donut.. So it's just kind of going parallel into the doughnut there. We can leave these little bits out and we're just going to keep going. Find out the direction the curl wants to go. In.. That'S usually the best way to go when you're working with these lovely big curls and we're just going to loosen it a bit because we want it to be a bit kind of soft and gorgeous and effortless. Looking that's the idea and just keep going, creating your different shapes with the curls., Just make sure you're happy with that shape and then continue with the next curl.. So we've got a lot of hair here. I'Ve got three lovely kind of chunky curls, but work with the hair that you have and remember. You can always kind of loosen this curl.. So don't worry if you don't have as much hair as I'm working here with Kaylee, because you can always loosen it. It is a very textured style, so just go for it And get the kind of shape of the bun that you like, and I'm just working with the mirror here, just off camera.. So at this stage don't worry about how it looks at the back here. I know you can't see what I'm doing here, but I'm just gripping the hair to the to the padding. I just want you to see how I'm working with this section just the shape here.. Now, let's get another chunky section of hair. There'S a couple of ways you can do this: you can bring it up to the donut first, you can bring it up to the padding first and secure using your up and over technique. If you want to there. Up and over and back in And then you can curl this section and position it or you can curl the hair and then bring it up, you can kind of have a little play A bit more spray. Vintage, curl, technique. And work. Your way through each section of hair, curling and securing., So really you don't want lots of little curls for this. What you actually need are kind of a few big chunky curls., So we're just gon na pin ... ... Find out how we like that curl to sit using a bobby pin., Secure that flat into the donut. You can loosen that curl make it look a little Bit textured and a bit more kind of gorgeous and just pin that in. And just keep going. As you go along making sure you're happy with the shape of everything. And you can see as you let the curl separate it gives it that kind of lovely textured. Effortless look., So basically, what I'm doing is where the curl goes back and kind of touches the head: that's where you're going to use your bobby pin., Just open it up just a little bit and slide the pin, so my finger's holding that hair the curl here At the back and I'm just going to use the bobby pin just where my finger was to do the job that my finger was doing, and then it holds it nicely in that shape. Just here like that., We might find we need to ... Once these curls are out and just like tumbling effortlessly from the style., So don't be afraid to kind of pull at this style a little bit and loosen it, because it's really about creating this lovely gorgeous Kind of effortless-looking tumbling style. And remember: you can always use a little bit of texturising powder in these sections. If the hair is a little bit too soft, So we're happy with our lovely kind of tumbling tousled, textured-looking, bun And remember. You can always come back and loosen and tweak. Very pretty
