I'M going to show you how to create a beautiful soft, half up, half down style working with short, fine hair.. So I'm going to show you how you can kind of make the most of the hair get a curl in there, but still keep the length and also add a little bit of volume without working with extension.. So we're going to begin by getting some texture and some extra volume into the hair. So here we could use a little bit of mousse at the root and the salt spray through the mid-lengths and the ends and blow-dry the hair. But the hair on the practice head is already a little bit dry, so I'm going to omit the mousse and I'm just going to go straight for the salt spray. Blow-dry, the hair section by section getting movement and root lift into the hair.. If you find it a bit difficult to work with the practice head using your brush and the blow dryer, you can always just use your fingers to help hold the hair.. Whether you work with your fingers and the blow dryer or with your brush you'll still get a lovely, full kind of textured finish to the hair.. Now we can start to create our style. So decide where you want the height to begin here on the crown and then from just in front of that section. You want to take a little zigzag line down to just behind the ear on both sides. Then section the crown away. So here we want to try and keep the length of the hair yet still get some curl in there. So we don't want it to be too curly, but if we create a curl just at the ends, then you'll find that you get kind of the appearance of a curl without losing too much of the length of the hair and we're just going to curl the Ends of the hair., If your lady has particularly fine hair that you know doesn't hold a curl very well, then you could use a little bit of your silhouette to pump spray. Smooth out the hair a little bit and then curl at the ends. Check the temperature And if your client has quite fine hair and it doesn't want to hold the curl, then you can always pin each curl in place.. Pin it up a little bit until it has. The hair has time to cool down., I'm not really going for an overly curly. Look with this particular style. On the outside edges. Here, I'm curling, the hair in towards the back, so it curls away from the face. Check the hair in the mirror, and I'm happy with those curls. Take a section of hair at the back of the crown here. Just back comb the hair just a little bit just really close to the root, but not too much.. You could use a little bit of texturizing powder.. The texturizing product will help the style to hold and last longer, because not only does it mattify the hair, but it also helps to absorb moisture from the scalp.. So once we've got our little section here, just make sure it's smooth, because you don't want the back coming to be visible.. You can get a little bit of extra height here. If you want to by pushing that backcombed hair forwards a little bit at the root and then we're just going to smooth over the hair, using the tongs, almost as if they're straighteners., We'll finish off by just getting a little tiny bit of a curl on the Ends of the hair, not too much., I'm just going to let that cool and let's move on to the next section. So again about an inch deep, smooth and back comb just at the root or use your texturizing powder., Smooth the hair again on both sides. Just to make sure there's no fly away: hair anywhere. Just give it a little curl at the ends and be careful. If you've got a little bit too much backcombing, you might need to come back and re-smooth the hair, just leaving the tiniest bit of back combing at the root and create your sections. By working with these sections here, a little piece at a time you can decide Exactly where you want them to sit., Just work out where you want these little sections to sit and when you're happy with the position you can pop a bobby pin just across the back.. Now, let's work on the next layer, tiny bit of backcombing on here or texturizing powder., A tiny smear of product is all you need on your finger and just keep working on your height and on the shape of the style. Before I start working on the side sections, I'm just going to prop a little pin just resting on the bobby pin there. So that when I bring my side sections round and back, I can rest them over the pin. Whilst I decide exactly where I want them to sit., Just keep going so I'm still working with the same product on the back of my hand, and now we just need to continue to work on these little sections deciding just where you want them to sit. When You'Re happy with the shape you've achieved. You can just get another bobby, pin making sure that you get everything in the right position. Get another bobby, pin and secure across the back, making sure it's nice and secure and flat against the back of the head. A little bit of product just on those two little stray sections of hair there and then curl better. So as you work through the style just make sure you're happy with how the curls are all sitting. So now, let's move on to our side sections.. So now, let's just decide to do a little zigzag part here and just have a little bit of hair down. So, let's imagine she doesn't want her ears to be on show.. Then we can sweep this hair back, maybe with a twist or even a braid.. What happens if we do a little twist here and pull it out this way, ... check in the mirror. As you go along., Then you can use your little pins just to prop the hair in place. As you work your way, back. At the back of the hair here, ... remember to give it a twist and remember: you need to take your finger out once you've twisted the hair.. So the finger comes out.. You can just press your thumb against the head and slide the bobby pin underneath your thumb, so the thumb presses the hair against the head, and you slide your bobby pin underneath the thumb in between the hair and your thumb.. That way, then, the hair is really secure, and if you want to enhance this sectioning look, then you can of course use your little fine pins to just encourage the kind of shape of these little pieces that you've worked on. You might find if your client has Got some beautiful highlights in there that you can work with the highlights. Now, let's start work on the other side. Just play with the sides depends how much hair your client wants down and decide how you'd like to style the hair using your little pins as props To hold the hair in place as you go along. A little twist in the hay kind of folding. It back on itself Use your bobby pin to secure the hair close to the scalp. Pop these pins in.. If you're going to push these pins into the hair, just make sure that the pin sits kind of parallel to the direction of the hair., It actually feels really secure. So I don't really think we need to keep all the pins in. A little bit of setting lotion, ... and curl.. That'S it. We just need to take our little pins. Out. We've still got the length and she looks like she's got lots of hair
