Hello, this is Greg, presents key for beardbrand alliance, and today I want to talk to you about one of the most controversial issues and men's haircare. Today, the man bun. There are lots of polarizing issues in today's political culture and in today's society, and one of them, maybe not so serious, happens to be whether the man bun is liked or really disliked, and I have to say for personal experience I have taken it. I had seen it from both sides. I posted this post on Instagram, which was the still from the video that I had created about history of men with long hair and that post did phenomenally well like crazy. Well, I think, there's like 18 thousand likes on the post, but there's almost 300,000 views of the post, and if you read the comments, most of them are very favorable. But then I posted a similar version of that and I'll take from that particular photo set on Facebook, not too recently and basically no no, no, no, no, no, no! No! No! So what is the difference here could be the it's definitely an audience. It'S an audience. Difference from Facebook to an audience on Instagram, it could be an age demographic also, because if I'm looking at the Facebook they tend to be maybe a little older and women and the people on Instagram tend to be younger and mostly men or heavily more men. But there seems to be this love-hate relationship with the man bun now. For me, it's a practical thing. I wear my hair up off of my face off of my neck when I want to not be encumbered by hair falling into my face so at the gym. When I'm doing yard work any kind of physical activity, if I'm out in hiking in a windstorm, I'm just walking around - and I know it's gon na be gusty wind like it is often in Center City Philadelphia. I will pull either my hair up. On top of my head or back in a ponytail, it's a practical thing for me. Some guys choose to wear it as a style note. Now, it's not to be said that I haven't worn my hair up in a bun like this to get it out of the way, but also as a style now, but I would say, 90 % of the time. It'S a practical thing for me. So back to, why is the man bun such a polarizing thing when you have people on Instagram who are basically saying yes, love the man, bun cold, look great great, and then you have people on Facebook saying no don't do that. Why is that, and I don't know, I think it probably represents when people look at it? It just is saying: hipster and I don't know if that's a negative anymore, it might be a little passe for in certain groups of people, but a lot of people just associate a particular look or a particular item of a look with the entire culture and say Nope, don't like it, you know it's it's over, I don't like it and I don't like what it stands for or whatever reason, but some people just attach this hairstyle. You know putting your hair up on top of your head and visible. I think it has to be visible. It'S one thing to pull it back and have it out of the way, but it's when you pull it up on top of your head, and it's literally on the top of your head. That to me is a man bun. So very polarizing, so I asked some of the people that actually on Facebook commented. So you know pretty Myint ly to the know why they didn't like it and for the most part, people just preferred my hair down. So people liked seeing the hair long now they might not necessarily like the long hair, but they prefer seeing it down than to seeing it up. So I said, but what, if I need a practical way of getting it off of my face? Majority of those people said: wear a ponytail, just pull it back or tuck up behind your ears or do whatever you don't have to be making such an expression of a hairstyle by putting it on the top of your head. So a lot of people who were really opposed to the man bun thought it was a basically display of style. That was unnecessary. So for me, since it's a practical style, they thought wearing a ponytail would be a better way to get my hair up and off of my face so to pull it straight back, put it in a ponytail rather than having it on the top of my head. So I asked the same question to people on Instagram. What do you like about the man bun or why did you respond so favorably to that particular post? And it's just the opposite thing? They, like the visual expression of having the hair up on the top of my head. They also thought it wasn't practical to wear your hair down long all the time, and this way it would be practical to get it up off of your head, but they actually liked that it was visible, and I said well what's so important about that. They said it actually says that your hair is long enough, that you can actually pull it up on the top of your head and put it in a bun. It just means that you have long hair. So there you go two schools of thought: two camps. We have the nose over on Facebook, we have the yeses on Instagram and do those two really meet, of course, there's people from both camps on either side. You know, I think I have one positive comment on the Facebook post and there were definitely negative comments on the Instagram post, but I think it's a different difference in demographics. It'S also my facebook posts tend to be with people. I know I have a private account and they're. Basically people that I go to church with people, my neighbors, family and friends, and they just might know me or think they know me better, but I think it's really. They think it might not be my style. So those people know that I'm a suit. I wear a suit jacket and I wear a coat and tie typically to work, and so even having long hair is a stretch for some of those people. They prefer as a whole. My hair short, which I know people across the internet, might prefer my hair short, but I think because they think they know me better or know me better. They see a little bit of a disconnect between a hairstyle that that necessarily fit with a Colombian style or what my occupation is. I don't think this is a hairstyle. That is that I wouldn't necessarily wear to work. I probably wouldn't wear my hair up on my head like this with a suit, though so to their point. I guess that is true on Instagram, I think a lot of people see me, especially in that particular post, I'm wearing a casual outfit and a leather jacket on it seems to be more fitting with what I'm wearing so in the end, I think it's, the the Difference here is really situational, so if I'm wearing a suit is what those people responded to so the people on Facebook. You know they have the same picture. They saw me in a leather jacket with my hair up on the top of my head, but they know that I'm wearing a suit all the time, then I'm a professional guy. Then I'm going in front of clients and I'm not wearing my hair like this, whereas people on Instagram say: hey, he's wearing a leather jacket, he's probably not going to work and will let him wear his hair, like that different points of view. So I'm just curious. Do you well couple of things here? Is the man bun dead, so it's long hair dead? I don't know about that. I'M still growing my hair and we'll see where that ends up probably by summertime, but it's the man bun dead, and is that kind of look a look that you think guys should be sporting today? If you had long hair, do you think you would be wearing your hair, like this very curious, to find out so comment below and tell us if you approve of the man bun or to give him the thumbs up, you give it a thumbs down and why, Until we meet again dude, you want simplicity, grab the styling balm, it's designed for your hair and your beard. It will give us and finish with a medium hold. No, it's not a conditioning product. It'S a styling product, styling balm over at beardbrand, calm,

Tew Travelers: I'm a retired combat veteran and I wear a manbun all the time. It's funny what people assume about my life history and how off they are about me and my personality. I won't repeat the mean things I've heard.

Echatl: As a dude with long hair, I can say that I love to tie my hair in a bun for whatever reason... practical, to pull of a particular style... Although I would love to see Greg hair routine

Gods Wrath: I'm the furthest thing from a hipster, but I enjoy having long hair and enjoy the way a manbun looks on me. I naturally look more mature with longer as opposed to shorter hair, which is another factor to it, but it also compliments my full on beard and mustache, similar to jason momoa. Just do what you think makes you look best and at the end of the day you'll feel better about your style and your confidence in wearing it.

Kristoffer Hagen: I like the manbun. I think you and I started our hair growth journey at around the same time, as we have very similar lengths. I usually wear mine in a bun at the back. I started out from an undercut so the sides are a bit shorter than the rest. Also, I think buns a suits are cool as heck. Haven't tried the top one yet, but I've worn back bun or high back bun with a suit and it looks good! Keep on growing Greg!

L C: this is a good channel, Im glad I found it. Edit: I approve of the man bun, I really dont see what the big deal is, I think there is alot crazier hair styles out there that definitely top the man bun and people just need to accept we are going to do what makes us Happy, my hair is probably half an inch shy of a man bun and I can promise I will rock the man bun to keep hair out of my face when its windy

The_Matthew: Great video. I have been growing my hair out too. I am about 18 months in and just starting to like it. I have never been a fan of the man bun (or can't we simply call it The Bun??) and have chosen hats and beanies until it hits the right length. I am 48 and find a kindred spirit in the fact you are not in your 20's and choose to try something different in your mid years. I am inspired by 70's surfing culture as my main reference for my hair. Thanks for all the great content Greg!

Thomas Mason: I think more people would love long hair if they understood what long hair and short hair symbolize. It’s really cool to learn and understand what significant hair has had throughout history and still does. Long story made easy is short hair symbolizes control and following whereas long hair symbolizes freedom, choice, health and vitality.

Noelle Reiter: I know this is a year old, but I love the man bun, whether it's worn low or high, especially with a beard, there is some kind of balance happening. Often, when I see a man wearing a bun, I don't assume he is a certain kind of person, since I see different types of people wear them as well as different cultures. A lot of male flamenco artists have long hair, and wear buns for practicality reasons, like practice, or even with a suit. I think hair buns look great on everyone, and anyone should be able to wear it.

Michael King: I grew my hair out from a crew cut to about four inches. My hair is wavy and thick and curly so it doesn't do well unless it is very short or long enough to just barely pull back. So I did that and turns out that is what people call a man bun or maybe slot or something like that. So that is what I have and I didn't have the intention to have a "man bun". But people where I live say they like it and the people that don't so far haven't said a word. Either way I don't care. In fact if more people told me they don't like it the more likely I'd be to keep it forever. I wear this to work and in suits and while sleeping.

Almost Made: When I grew my hair long in 97-98, this was years before becoming a thing. I could see myself doing it now, but living in a smallish town, it wouldn’t be worth the heckling I’d get.

David Sanders: Greg, I use the bun as a utilitarian way to get the hair out of my face as well. I'll also rock it at the day job depending on how froggy I'm feeling. Always great to catch your vids.

Mark Leone: Hilarious opening. Huge fan of the bun, I think it's a great look on you in particular, and no I don't think it's ever going out of style. It's been said a couple of times in the comments already, but I will echo that I think the people who hate on it, hate on it out of irritation that they don't have hair/can't grow hair long enough to put it in a bun/don't have the patience to grow it long enough to put in a bun. I would venture to guess that 9 out of 10 guys able to do this would absolutely do it. Said differently, are there hordes of anti-bun men out there with hair like yours or longer, railing against other men with equally long hair who put it up in a bun? No.

Alexander Irigoyen: I don't have my hair long enough yet, but I don't think people should be worried about males sporting the Man-Bun. It's stylish, functional, and simply put, it keeps hair at bay. I am hoping to grow mine long enough to have a Half-bun because it looks great, but we'll see.

Chia-How C.: Long hair is not dead, and neither is the manbun. There will always be people (and especially women) who dislike it for some reason.‍♂️ The manbun

thisisruben: The "man bun" is very practical, you can totally rock it with a suit and it would look nice and clean, obviously if you do a tighter bun instead of a messy one. I think the problem is more on the name, when people hear "man bun" it immediately brings negative connotations, so people tend to react negatively to it. Hell as a long haired dude, I rock it constantly. I also rock braids, and lately I've been rocking space buns.

Wilson Domingues Frazão: I don't care what other people wear. As long as you are happy with it. I totally approve people with different style, that's one of the things that make us unique... i wish i could grow my hair long, but it's becoming thin on top.

Portland Razor Co.: Thumbs up all around. You have always encouraged guys to experiment and sport whatever style makes them feel like their best selves. Man buns, modern mullets, long beards, short beards, or no beards. We appreciate that about you.

Berkanan: Seems it has been more challenging to find the middle of that moustache this morning. :) Back on topic I am actually interested as I am getting to a stage where I could pull off a man bun (with undercut) but I don't want to look hipster or don't want to look like someone is making a 'fashion statement'. It purely is more comfortable sometimes and if I can forget all this social judgement IMO it actually looks fine with a beard. My beard is getting close to 4 months now which is the longest I have ever had. The fact I was able to reach four months is partly down to beard brand videos.

Nicholas Tracy: I say ! As someone who had a bun a few years ago, I always preferred a lower bun though - it was more versatile, less showy and didn’t make my head look elongated.

Leonardo De Marco: Hi Greg. You already know I have long hair. even longer than you. I love the man bun !!! I wear it all the time more than the pony tail or just down. In my case is like bowl because it is twisted all the way arround. Any look you show, is gorgeus !! Any outfit, casual or not, the suit at work with the pony tail, all of them look incredible on you, and that is obvious !! You are soooo hansome and a really good looking !!! Just let the style go and choose who's you like the most !! Regards from Argentina !!

James 🏃‍♂️: Yep the old man bun, which I had, but now I'm rocking the slick back fade with my 5 month Yeard journey! Looking well Greg

Jon Fernandez: Initially, I did not care for the look of a man bun; however, I tried it and now I am all for its practicality. Also, I have noticed when my man mane is pulled into a pony tail it is a bit difficult to pull down at the end of the day. I'm assuming wind and rubbing across my back creates tangles? But in a man bun, pulling it down is effortless, resulting in much healither hair. So yes, thumbs up on the man bun! For those that do not care for it - good news! You don't have to wear your hair up in one. :)

Tripp Lile: People who say it’s not “masculine” are the ones preoccupied judging another mans hair and looks

Saved Rage: Love the hair Greg. The high bun works well. It boils down to ignoring the haters. Everytime I grow my beard I have to deal with the hipster comments. Water off a ducks back.

Storm Vent: Well Im a middle-aged woman and I love it. Keep on going. You cheer me up. Much love.

daVincian Diversity: I used to rock a man bun (I shave my head now) and I got so much hate for it. I don’t understand why it’s so disliked. I understand that it’s associated with hipsters but I don’t even understand why hipsters are viewed so negatively. They jealous of good coffee and cool hair or something?

Dale Hawke: Think that there are a lot of narrow minded individuals in the world these days, i think people should be able to wear their hair as they see fit, I have long hair myself, and if anyone tries to hair shame me, tell them to mind there own business. I personally like the look, but not everyone can pull it off! But you kinda have a viking look, and I think it suits you

Jeffrey Hume: In the process of growing my salt & pepper hair and beard out. Enjoy the videos Thanks

ThunderRazor: I see less buns on men but I wouldn't say it is dead. I like the bun and I think you look great in it! I haven't tried to grow my hair out and pull it off, but I've thought about it a lot...

ASMR DadBod: id never judge anyone for wearing a "manbun." everybody got to do what they got to do. Live and let live, you know.

Richard Van Fossan: I’m bald but if I had hair like yours I’d wear it however I pleased! I do like the man bun and the ponytail! Just do you!

Chip Groff: Honestly, I am a individual. With a individual taste. I like what I like and it keeps people confused. Besides, I'm knocking on the door of 60. I still have a full head of silver hair that others wished they had,

Type1: Honestly I think your style of man bun looks great, it’s when people shave the sides it doesn’t look so great in my opinion.

SYREN SNO: Everyone needs a top knot, make and female. Here in the South we say, the higher the bun, the closer to heaven.

ARGHO: Then again half of these people are going bald or can't do it themselves

Captain Ed: No manbun for me...I'm 55yrs young, have all my hair, and then some, salt n pepper in a "unique pattern" as my barber usually says! Although I keep it in a fade, my hair on top is fairly abundant, however at least once a year I let it grow, and when I do, and need it of my face, "ponytail" it is my friend.

Steve-in-Cornwall: Your hair is amazing in all styles.  :)

BrettIsaac: Wear it how you like it mate! Bun with a suit would look nice also. Hair up is most professional when you have it super long, IMO. and the question isnt is long hair in, the question is can you keep it in?

Hilmar: My hair is even longer than yours and I usually wear it in a manbun or ponytail. But I don't like the look of a manbun on top of the head. I wear it a little bit above my ears. On top of the head it looks kind of funny to me.

Gui Valdoleiros: I used to have a man bun but I decided to cut my hair almost a year ago, now i just want to have it again and I´m kinda unpaccient i wish i just had it by now ahahah

RJ Carter: I like the man bun a lot. I also like ponytails and loose long hair. All good.

Jon McCargar: As a guy with short hair, I only pass judgement on the big issues, the rest I leave to a free society. You look how you wish and enjoy it.

Zach Scott: He basically just proved that Instagram is Vein as it gets. Which we already knew

Joshua Baxter Holy_hammer: My son and I both wear a bun. Regularly.

Checkered Life: People like to label these days. I would suspect those calling anybody with a man bun especially with sporting a beard theyre automatically a "hipster." I would also suspect those name callers are follically challenged? Btw; When I wore my hair long I occasionally put it up in a bun and / or pony tail.

Luis Valencia: I grew out my hair so it could look like this. Lol . That and my gf said it’d look cute.

rock climbing38: Good video. Pulling your hair out of your way, doesn't matter how, just enjoy the look. My girlfriend loves you look, I am not silver yet. Hahahaha

Homo Hottileshundesonusneanderthalensis: Some rock the man bun. Its not your thing, yes. In the end we all should be happy with our looks

bob lobster: Man bun deffo yes. Cultivating mine, 2 inches to go

Joshua Resnick: I have nothing against it but it is just not my style. I prefer short or ponytails. But to each their own.

W T: It’s the age of the users, the You Tube fans are older overall than those who use Instagram. It’s that simple!

TheJanseman: Upload a photo of it on tinder and tell us how the reaction were there. :-)

Stuart Binnie: I love it!!! I also like the He hive!!!

Luke Gazda: Hey, I have no problem with it. I would rock it, but I would need a better beard. Lol

darth flagger: Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

andrew kelly: In the you UK we call them “top knots” and it seems to be popular with professional soccer players ⚽️

Chris Sullivan: Bro Greg looks fire in the bun

Rob: Used to admire Greg’s sense of style. Just not digging the long hair at all. I agree. To each it’s own. Hopefully he will be in the barber chair soon.

Gabby Hayes: I could care less about another guy's hair but I don't think it's very masculine personally. You don't see too many Cowboys on the Rodeo circuit sporting one, lol. I see a man bun, I think soy boy. But then again, I think the same about men's earrings.

S E: I see it as a thumb up the nose to tradition. I've had it and I liked it. But at church it's not a hit.

brett poteet: No man bun for me, but I have short hair. Rock what ya got, I guess.

David Lippner: Hate the look of a manbun but to each his own

John McElvogue: Beard & bun on, Greg!

Vlad Drimboreanu: i personally dont like man bun...i dont like it on you either. HOWEVER i do like your long hair ! (whether in a ponytail or natural) .MY OPINION on man buns is that if you wear your hair like that it seems very gay and people are not confortable around gay dudes. it s just so effeminizing

mastersora701: been wearing mine for months now

Edward Fox: I see the man bun as the modern day suebian knot. I think lots of the haters don't know history and are just followers and joiners.

ASMR DadBod: i prefer completely shaven to sporting a manbun

TRUTHTELLER1167 5111: It seems We have found zeus! Keep your hair zeus. Let the haters hate.

Kaan İkizoğlu: Just call it the highball hahaha

Theo Josh: I always had them short and now make buns !!! who care what people think ? they have enought to see than waste time watching me .... and as i am plenty of hairs at 77 i am happy to make plenty of jalous hahahaha !

Aaron Emblem: I rock a man bun...but i also have an undercut

Pict: Screw them. Man buns rule

Dustin Meador: Idk what difference it makes to people if you wear a man bun or not . who cares do you ! But no I don't think I would be comfortable wearing one.

heroesytumbas: I call it the "mom doing housework hairstyle". The thing is that the men who popularized the trend are obnoxious people that doesn't even do any physical work, and most people associate the hairstyle with them.

aldo125: thumbs down I grew long hair for 2 years man bun only when I shower and that's it ponytail or let it flow maybe a braid. feel that the manbun is just a fad that guys think its cool to jump into not my cup of tea did I say I don't care for it lol. that's just me though I think also the name manbun is why I dislike it.

THE BLADESLINGER: on the samurai bun

Yu_CP: Short hair ftw

The Vegan Wujeeta: Don't care, you do you and I'll continue to be indifferent

Ashram: it's cool but u see that bit hanging on his shoulder... I hate if u don't get all of the hair in it...

Chris Sullivan: The people saying just put it in a pony tail instead of a bun are the ones out here rocking the cargo shorts and a shiny head

HD_A06: Thank you Dr. Nicky

GAMING LEGEND: The MySpace crowd would tell you to cut your hair

darth flagger: I'm gender nonbinary and have had no facial hair, had long hair, and now no hair. I present as male with a massive thick beard but feel neither male or female. I subscribe to being both masculine and feminine. I believe it's a social construct.

from feriluc: Whatever u do in life not everyones gna like it. Not everyone likes god. Everyone wil find something to hatr on becacuse their life isnt in order. Peace

yellomate55555: Maybe if you cut it, it won't get in your face.

Jack P: It’s why restaurants have menus

Alpha Of The Betas: Man bun, sandals, soy milk, avocado toast, voting Democrat... it’s a slippery slope.

Reanu Keeves: Whoever deleted my comment, man up and grow some balls. It’s only criticism. You post a video and only accept positive comments? You’re on a social platform where I assumed we can talk like men.

Krazede: FBook = older crowd!

Tom Coles: never heard of her

Mitchell Schultz: Bro you are like 60 years old you can have a man bun but not so high on your head ...it's corny as hell ...but your hair and beard are great ...

Iron Butterfly: Man bun is hot!

Jarrod Hall: This subject is much too controversial for a family friendly forum like YouTube. Reported!

vmendonc: cut that crap
