Hey guys! Today I’m showing you everything you need to know about rice water. If you watch hair growth videos, then I’m sure you’ve heard of how rice water is supposed to have amazing benefits for hair growth. There’s a lot of mixed information within the hair growth community of how to make and use rice water, so I wanted to make this video to give you a detailed explanation of the best way to do it.

My background with rice water:

So about a year ago, I tried a 30 day rice water rinse. Yes, I rinsed my hair with rice water for 30 days straight. I actually then made a video here on my channel about how rice water didn’t work for me. Using it everyday made my hair really dry and brittle. But, a year later, I decided to research it more, as I had basically heard nothing but good things about it since my bad experience. I found that I was using rice water way too often. Rice water, especially fermented rice water, is strong. Although everyone’s hair is different, generally, you shouldn’t be using it everyday. After trial and error, I realized that rinsing my hair with rice water for hair growth every 2-3 weeks works best for my hair. Also, I realized that although you should be washing your hair beforehand, shampooing before a rice water rinse is often too intense. Whenever I shampoo before using rice water, my hair is left really dry. So, instead, I found that using a co-wash, then a conditioner, and then rice water is the best way to integrate a rice water rinse into your hair care routine. I really hope my story will help you in figuring out the best way to integrate this amazing hair rinse into your hair care routine!

Hello guys welcome back to my channel if you are an avid viewer of the hair growth community here on YouTube, I'm sure that you've heard of rice, water, so rice water is supposed to be the number one best. Hair growth treatment and today I'm gon na be spilling all the tea on rice, water. I'M gon na be telling you the only way that you should be making rice water in the only way that you should be using rice water before we get into this video. If you guys, like these types of hair growth and haircare videos, make sure you subscribe to my channel as well as turn on bail notifications, so you can be notified when I post future hair videos. So first I need to give credit where credit is due. This video was inspired by the young women of the village Huang Lo in China. Their hair is incredibly long. It'S super healthy, super shiny and, yes, you guessed it they rinse and wash their hair with fermented rice, water, okay! So I'm just gon na jump right into the recipe, because I know that. That'S why you guys are all here so you're. First gon na want to take between a half a cup to a full cup of rice and you're gon na want to put it in a bowl. Also, you can use any race that you want. You can use white rice, brown, rice, basmati rice, jasmine rice, so now you're gon na rinse, the rice. Now I do this two times. I just pour some water into the bowl of rice and I gently scrub the rice, and this helps to get all of the dirt and impurities off of the rice before we actually start to make the rice, water, okay, so once you've rinsed it you want to Of course drain the dirty rice, water out of the bowl and now you're gon na take some sort of sealed container. So I like to use mason jars, but if you don't happen to have mason jars at home, you can use like a Tupperware container of some sort. As long as the cover is sealed tightly, it's totally fine. So now I start by carefully transferring the rice from the bowl into the mason jar, so, as you guys can see at first I'm using a spoon. So if you have a funnel that would make this process a lot easier, but it's totally not necessary. So then you want to fill up the jar with water, so I usually fill the jar up 3/4 of the way with water. So then you want to close the lid tightly and then you want to shake the rice water a lot, and this is gon na help all of the nutrients vitamins and minerals get out of the rice and into the water. So rice, water is rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamin B and E amino acids and inositol. So inositol is really one of the most important aspects of rice, water. It'S super important because it helps to repair damaged hair, while also helping to expedite the hair growth process. Now the next step is crucial. Super important so make sure you're paying attention from this point on. You can either use plain rice, water or you can use fermented rice water. So, by using plain rice, water, you would just use the water straight up in the jar right now. You just transfer it into another container. You take a shower and rinse your hair with it. If you want to use fermented rice, water, you would let the rice water sit on your counter for 12 to 24 hours, and then you would use the rice water as a Heron's. So unless you are super impatient, I highly recommend you to use fermented rice water for numerous reasons. So the process of fermentation helps to enhance the nutrients in the rice water, so that, when you end up using it as a rinse, the rice water itself is just going to be a lot more beneficial for your hair fermented. Rice water also contains Atarot, which is a type of yeast. The Tara essentially helps with cell rejuvenation of your scalp and hair. Now, even though fermented rice water is a lot more beneficial for your hair, it does smell a little bit funky. I have found that if I use jasmine rice, it doesn't smell nearly as bad as if I use just straight-up white rice. So if you have some jasmine rice at home, I would highly recommend you to use that if you don't, you can also use orange peels or essential oils. That'S totally fine to add into your rice, water, just to mask the stinky smell okay, so fast-forward 24 hours from now and the rice water is ready to go. So now I'm going to transfer the rice water into a spray, I'm really out of breath here. Okay, so now for how to actually use the rice, water rinse. So this is the part that I feel like people get confused on and it's one of the main reasons why I wanted to make this video, because I was doing the rice water rinse all wrong before, and I will explain that in a second. But essentially before you use rice water, you want to wash your hair from trial and error. I have found that shampooing and conditioning before rice water is a no-no. Shampoo and rice water together have just really dried out my hair. It is definitely preferred to use a co-wash, a conditioner and then the rice, water. So first I use a co-wash. I use the as I am coconut co-wash. Then I move on to my conditioner. I use the not your mother's Naturals conditioner. Let that sit in my hair for five minutes, rinse it out and now I'm good to go for the rice, water rinse. So for the rinse first I start by sectioning my hair. So I go section by section and first I focus on the roots of my hair. So I take my spray bottle. I spray the roots and then I move on to the hair shaft and I spray that and then I massage my scalp to ensure that all of the rice water is getting absorbed by my hair follicle. My scalp and my hair itself also massaging your scalp like that helps to increase circulation, which is also going to help your hair to grow faster. So I then repeat this all: throughout my hair until I've covered every single strand of hair and then I take the remaining rice water and I slowly pour it on my hair. So at this point the question is: do you leave it in your hair or do you wash it out what I found that works for me is somewhere in the middle, so I basically leave it in my hair for 15 minutes after I have rinsed it all Through my hair, just leaving it in my hair straight up, not rinsing it out at all until my next wash. Actually it's too much for my hair. Please don't underestimate the power of rice, water. It is extremely intense. I mean. How do you think the young women have gotten their hair that long so once 15 minutes is up, then I gently and quickly rinse the rice water out. So I do this so that I don't fully rinse it out, but just enough so that it doesn't irritate my hair if that makes sense. So then you can just finish up with your regular hair care, routine. Whatever that means for you, I would recommend to not use heat, because that's not good for your hair, but anything else that you typically do. You can just continue from there so now for the question of how often should you be using rice water? So this is a huge question and for some reason I really was not able to find a definitive answer. So I want to give you guys watching this video, my straight up response. I use rice water every two to three weeks and I know some of you guys watching this may think. Wow, that's nothing but, as I said, please do not underestimate the power of rice, water. It is an extremely strong hair growth treatment. Now I can recommend that frequency for everyone watching this video as a general rule of thumb, but what I really want to say is that the frequency with which you use rice water is going to solely depend on how your hair responds to it. So if your hair is completely unbothered by rice, water, you're, literally able to use it every single day and nothing bad happens to your hair. Then, by all means do that and if you happen to have super low porosity hair, then maybe once a month would be good for you, okay, so I really hope this video was helpful. I wanted to dispel all rumors about rice, water that we're out there yeah. I hope that this video gave you the full 4 1 1 on the truth about rice water. So if you guys would like to see a video where I show you how to use aloe vera for hair growth, I will put that video right here. If you would like to see a video where I use castor oil for hair growth, I'll put that video right here, thank you guys so much for watching this video. I love all of you and I will talk to you guys next time.

Audrey Victoria: ‍♀️Hiii guys! I have a new video, my pamper routine! Watch it here ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvrJLEm6Y0E

Rubydoobiedoo _: I’m not here because I regret cutting my hair, I’m here because I want to be able to put my hair in a bun

Swedish Meatball: I’m just popping in to say that I tried this on my fine, thin, stringy hair and so far it’s amazing. I soaked my freshly shampooed hair in the rice water for ten minutes, three days in a row. My hair hasn’t been this soft or had so much body in years. I used jasmine rice, and there was no smell… I did not ferment. It’s hands-down better results than any hair product I’ve ever bought. I was going to cut my hair short this week because I was tired of limp, stringy hair, and this was a last ditch effort. Thanks for sharing this video!

Jessies.journey: Tip if your watching this and worry about the 'dirt and impurities' on rice. It is actually called starch. Its just starchy water. You don't need to worry if you don't rinse rice but it does help get rid of the starch. Its not 'dirty' though it's just starch. Hope this helps ☺

not aliza: I’m Asian and I’m scared if my dad finds out I used rice for my hair

Irridessa Amore: i’m going to be using rice water for my hair every month and coming back to update every week week 1- grew about .5 inches. i noticed my hair is shiny but less oily. perhaps the yao women of china were on to something :o week 2 - grew an inch. my hair is very soft. i’ll continue to use it week 3 - 1.5 inches now! i struggle with dandruff and volume and this has really helped

Tasanica Mathirajasingam: All you need to do is Rinse the rice 2-3 times Strain the dirty rice water Store in a sealable container Carefully transfer the rice in the container Then fill it with water Shake it up Leave it for a day or so or use it straight away it's better to leave it to get all the nutrients Use orange peels or essential oil to make it smell good Then put the rice water in a spray bottle Rinse your hair Then section the hair Then spay the water from the roots to the ends Make sure to get each and every strand Massage your hair as you do it Then take the remaining rice water and put it directly Leave it into your hair for 15 mins After that rinse the rice water out Then finish with normal hair care routine Recommended to not use heat after apply every 1week

Tenzin Tsepal: OMG GUYS MY HAIR GREW. When I first measured my hair it was 10 inches, I measured 3 weeks later and it’s 11.5 inches. I’m so happy :)))

Adde: Okay so I’m a 17 year old dude. I’ve started to lose a lot of hair and that’s why I’m here. Two of my friends recommended me to look into this because supposedly it’s really good. I’m going to start applying it tomorrow and I’ll be consistent with it for like 6 months to a year. I’ll try my best to keep y’all updated if anyone is interested. Wish me luck❤️ Update: So, I started applying rice water to my hair 7 months ago. I applied it once a week and 1 month in I was seeing new hair coming out. So I decided to shave my head so it could grow out evenly. And I had long hair so my hair would fall off easily if pulled or scratched. So after shaving my head and still applying the rice water to my hair I noticed that my hair had grown back. My hair had more density and I wouldn’t lose as much hair as I did. But it did take a lot of time ofc. You have to stay consistent. I also quit using shampoo because it was damaging my hair. And also I quit wearing hats.

Bella Edwards: I’ll come back in a month and let u know how long my hair has grown Update: 4 days in and my hair is getting stronger and healthy looking Week 2: OMG WTF THIS SHIT WORKSS

Jun: Hi all! Hope you've been having a great day/night! I just rinsed my hair with the rise water (normal rice wotah) It's still wet tho. I'll let yall know the results every week! Update: been 3 week, and I haven't seen much changes with the hair fall. It is indeed very silky and not so frizzy like before. These are the only things I've experienced. I'll further let yall know <333

slater: You know I usually don’t comment on YouTube but man she hit everything. Like she gave credit, she gave a bomb ass instruction on how to, and even gave tips. Honestly one of the best videos, nice job man

Extra Account: I just started this today so I’ll keep everyone updated on how it goes (honest review) For reference I have super frizzy, somewhat wavy and REALLY thick hair and my main issue is dry hair and frizz control. Day 1- I honestly have noticed no change still SUPER frizzy (but they always look frizzy the day I wash) Day 2- my hair looked like they had been straightened 5 days ago iykyk. So way less frizzy kinda straight and had that (very died out) shine. Washing again will update.

hrithik Mehan: Thank you so much for sharing and I'm so happy that you gave credit where it's due, I truly admire that as I know a lot of people that follow these cultural practices and traditions however appropriate it by not giving credit. Yet you actually showed appreciation and gave credit and that truly makes a MASSIVE difference. And I loved learning the science behind why it's good for you. Keep up the great work!!

park soju: *i was doing this at midnight since everyone is sleeping but my brother caught me and i got scolded for wasting our rice*

Victoria Hunter : I put rice water in my hair for 4 days and had alot hair growth, I thought I was imagining things since there was so much growth, now I know it was the rice water. Thanks for the confirmation.

Nahrain Yousif: you won't regret trying it, i used it in last December twice a week for a month and my hair now is thicker and stronger.

Fun Star: i told my asian mom about this and she said "use as much rice as you want" i rlly do win in life

Londeka Asanda Gumede: I have a small afro and lost a lot of my edges when used to style my dreadlocks. So now I'm going to start using rice water and will take note of the progress. My objectives: -strengthening my hair and thickening it -dandruff control -edge regrowth -length I will update yall every week from next Saturday!

Miss Charlotte Burley: Thanks! I needed to know about rinsing and how often. You gave me the answers straight up without all the extra bs. Appreciate that!

roselyn fabian: This is really effective! I've do the same treatment for my dry and frizzy hair. But I don't suggest to stay in the bottle for more than 12 hours just make what you need for the day .

3 Guineas: i'm gonna try this since i don't have anything else going for me lol

Aditi Siddharth: I don't leave the rice sitting in the water. I just rinse the rice and use that water to ferment. Have been using it with every wash to rinse at the end. So far so good. Makes my hair look thicker and certainly softer.

Delilah Chávez: I do this to my hair and my hair has grown and it’s so soft and shiny!!! I recommend 100%

jade martino: Rinsing rice isn't to remove dirt it's to remove starch, but starch is good for your hair and gives it a nice shine so there's not really a point in rinsing it in this situation

Mary Mora: My hair grows extremely slow, im just hoping that this rice water helps me grow it out since ive been wanting my long hair back for about 8 years now.

Gymnastics- Jacey Lindquist: I love how she just jumped STRAIGHT to the video and didn't have a huge intro!

Danika Saunders: im a ginger, and my red hair to me is very gorgeous and ive gotten many compliments about my hair. i really want it to grow out. i really would like my hair to be wavy and long!

Erika Mendoza: I’m definitely going to be trying this out! I see that a lot of people in the comments are sharing their experiences so I’ll also share mine as I go! I’ll let you guys know what kind of results I see! ❤️ Have a blessed day/night! ❤️

Crystal Senegal: I have been using this method for years and it really does work!

Sofia Martinez: Thank you for getting straight to the point. Will be trying this ASAP

Just Hana: Don’t do this everyday, it’s too strong for your hair. One a week is enough. Also, massaging your scalp does wonders.

Gabriela Hernandez: Sprayed my hair with rice water , covered it with a cap & now laying in my bubble bath watching this video . Hoping this works!

esme nunez: who else stupidly CUT THEIR OWN HAIR and regrets it bc its not even so now ur here to grow it all back and catch up w eachother

Sarah Syed: I don't want longer hair I just want my hair to be more shiny and soft

Selena075: Using this and doing the inversion method along with healthy hair habits is absolutely the best way to grow hair VERY FAST

azuzu: I didn't cut my hair, I just want to make my hair grow faster and longer

Rebecca John: Does this work for hair thinning? My hair's been thinning for the past few years and I really want to make it grow thicker, should I concentrate it solely on my roots?

khansestela: Does it help to regrow your hair if your hair is falling out or shedding, or does it just help for growing hair length?

Noor Life hacks: I am using this remedy from 1 week on alternative days ..This actually works for me .My hair are more shinny and less frizzy now ..thank u

zel!: im gonna try this! ill update after my shower update: i just tried it and my hair feels so light. it doesnt feel weird or anything

Bitch See: I tried and IT WORKS! I use shampoo first, then rice water and lastly conditioner. Keeps my hair clean and also moisturized

ltdlcrz: i'm doing this for 5 days and my hair became soft, looking forward for a long hair after a month

Jaclyn Osgood: How long has it taken for your hair to grow out?

Allie Eyring: Thank you!! You explained this so well!!

Sophia Cheez-it: I’m starting this today and I’ll come back every week or so and tell you guys how it’s going!

Mysterious Moon: Ah man I wanna do this so bad but with the lockdown in UK at the moment finding a bag of rice is like finding a pot of gold.

Koroma lee: As someone who is half Asian my nana (full old Asian lady) told me this is okay and not a waste. She then grinded the leftover rice for a hair mask with honey for extra treatment.

Elsa&lisa: I have some questions. How often should you use the rice water on your hair? Also what does it do to your hair if you don’t rinse it out?

inkoura: I’m definitely gonna try it, I’m trying to grow out my bangs and a part of my hair that I accidentally cut which makes the hair sticking out. I will update in a few days! Update: My bangs have grew out an inch, I’m proud of the results but I thought it would grow much longer

Amarah Malik: How long does the rice water last after you make it?

Kate Luciani: I had an eating disorder and a lot of my hair fell out so Im hoping to grow it back healthier and stronger thank u Edit: I am so thankful for all these supportive comments

TheFashionGeekTV: I'm trying to grow my hair out so I can finally have it long enough to get a wolf cut and this helps alot! Thanks!

Ari Blink: I’m tired of straightening my hair everyday for school just for the fact that it looks longer, so I’m trying this to actually grow my hair in a healthy way I’ll update for the past weeks/months and we will seee☁️.....

Dale Van Den Heuvel: From each of the methods you've described from the cast oil, aloe vera and the rice water which one has made your hair thicker and longer than the other?

Chloe Khoury: Question does it matter if it is cold or hot/warm water? Also should we use the whole bottle or can we just use a little

Kyla star Lopez: Me: Have long hair= want short hair Have short hair= want long hair

Lilian Crawley: My husband loves rice & we literally eat it everyday and I’ve been draining the water like it’s nothing, now I know what to do with it haha thank you for a great video!

jay: I don't exactly regret cutting my hair, it was extremely damaged and dry due to all the hair straightening and nothing could save it so I cut it to below my chin. It looked really cute until my hair reached the length it is now, somewhere below my shoulders. it's not long enough to do any hairstyles I would like to do but it's not short enough to just wear it down and not drown in sweat (I live in a hot country so I only have the privilege of wearing my hair down in the winter lol) anyway, hope I can take care of my hair better this time and grow long healthy locks!

rii kiii: Doing this and taking ALOT of vitamins will have your hair grow so fast last year i was taking so many vitamins a day and my mom noticed my hair was getting super long but i just cut it all off so now i’m here again

Larasophia Delapeña: After i did this , my family were so curious why our house smell like a dead animal

Mechalen Opperman: This is perfect for girls that's transitioning from heat damaged hair to natural curls like myself. Thanks Audrey! I'll definitely try this❤️

Kalek Linia: Who else DOESN’T regret cutting their hair? I had butt long hair and cut it to my shoulders. I want to cut it again shorter, but I need them long enough to donate. I also want shiny shiny silky smooth

Alejandra Puga: Is the co wash necessary or is it optional

Djooo: Thank you so much Does this work on all ages too? Like kids? I hope this works :_)

The Art Of Legos: OMG THIS WORKS SO WELL!!!!!!!!

Spooky Lola: Doing this because it seems like my hair grows 1cm a year

qadeen fromage: Before watching this video I tried rice water rinse. I poured it all over my scalp and hair after shampooing and conditioning. It made my hair sticky and dry even after I rinsed it. I washed my hair a couple of days after and it's still sticky. If anyone knows how to get rid of this dry stickiness plz comment it.

Precious Mendez: Can I use coconut oil instead of the cowash?

Amna Iqbal: How long can the rinse be stored in the fridge?

Pouber: For those of us with straight hair: stick with shampoo, cowash doesn’t benefit straight hair

jumsumi rakshap: Can we use rice water before shampooing and conditioning?

Kasumi Zee: quick question, can i use rice flour? or can i blend the rest of the rice?

melizabeth rose: This was so helpful thank you!

Flower_girl: So I know this video came out a while ago but I had a question, so I heard that using baby shampoo can help you hair be healthier because it’s softer and better for the baby’s skin and hair since it is still growing, is that true? Does it help? Or should I use a different kind?

just another cringy girl: Her "don't underestimate the power" Me who's been planning on doing it every time I shower

icHeLuiZ HHZZ: Your hair looks great!! I’m trying to let my hair grow up but I also feel like I’m loosing hair. Any recommendations?

Cherie Carpenter: I'm glad I found your video! My hair complete quit growing several months ago, and I'm desperately trying to find something to stimulate the hair growth

Bellazme: keep in mind rice has arsenic and some brands have more than others. I am not sure how arsenic is effected from rice being cooked but I often wonder if the rice water has more arsenic.

Jisoo’s kookie: How long did it take for it to work?

this is my username: Who's here because you regret cutting your hair short but don't wanna wait that long

Chandrakala Noronha: How long does it take to grow.

George El sayah: When fermenting the rice where should I keep it?

Lo: For those who are wondering, yes, it does work 100%. If you keep up with it, it’s does WONDERS. Hope this helps :)

CMarie 2020: Very good video ive heard of many recommendations of this method. I've had 2inches cut off today i will try this at my first wash. Going to do a before and after to see the difference

Rummiii: Cut during quarantine, now growing during quarantine ... that’s called evolution EDIT: thank you guys for the likes!!!!!! Hope everybody is not losing their shit and if you are its okay!!! we all in it together! Stay safe ya'll

da afshar: You can also use the rice water while you are cooking the rice . Let it get cooler

Peej B.: Did you use warm water to rinse your hair? Or is it cold? I hope you get to answer my question. Thanks

Azalia xox: can you reuse the rice water or do you have to use it all in one wash?

Haley: Question! Do you keep the rice water you already made and save it, or do you every month get new rice water

imagine being a mouse: my parents won't let me do this because rice is literally the main meal everyday for my family.

Victoria Chronowska: How long can you keep the rice water? Like do you need to use it straight away or can you leave it in the bottle for a while?

Laura: I use rice water on my curly hair. Best detangler ever!

Kokitrees: Thank you so much, the hairdresser cut my hair WAY shorter than I wanted

Kimmie Kay: What is a CO wash? And what do you mean by it's extremely intense? Is it smell lies or will they grow really fast? Also is that amount for the full hair or do you only use some of it?

MANO KHALIFA: I had a great result when I tried this way My hair increased his length 2cm in one week

Sanju Taneja: Do we have to wash it off with plain water or with shampoo?

Khushi Bisht: Can we use the rice left from fermented rice water for coocking????

𝕃𝕠𝕧𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝔻𝕒𝕪: I love how she gave credit when some people don’t

novsername X: Do you need to use a co wash or is it optional?
