Kerri Colby Hair Color Inspiration

Hi everyone! In this weeks video we will be creating a wig that was inspired by the gorgeous entrance look worn by Kerri Colby of RuPauls Drag Race. And I will be doing this by coloring a human hair wig with the watercolor method. Let’s try and create this beautiful wig!

#JAYMESMANSFIELD #KERRICOLBY #RUPAULSDRAGRACE

Hi everyone, james mansell, here bringing you yet another video. Oh my god, you guys welcome to my kitchen. Yes, we are inside my glamorous kitchen with a cast iron. No, it's not cast iron stainless steel, stainless steel; sink! That'S what it is! Where'D cast iron come from. I think i have food on the brain anyways. Today'S gon na be a very special video. We are doing an inspired hair coloring. Yes, we are coloring a human hair wig that i got from one of my subscribers, robert nyhan. You may remember it from me: styling. It in this video i'm going to give her a new lease on life. Now i got so inspired by the season. 14 workroom entrance looks especially carrie colby's. Yes, i saw her here and i thought i have to do something like that. So that's what we're doing today, i went and got some colors from the beauty supply store. Well, i went to jazzy chick and got a door. My favorite hair coloring brand, as well as they didn't, have pink there like the baby, pink. I needed for the trans flag, we're doing here, so i got froze from arctic fox. The brand i haven't used yet so it's gon na be an experiment today and we're gon na see how it all works out. Baby pink was all sold out. I'M doing the best when i got here all right, um first things: first, we got ta tone the hair because, as you can see, she's awfully 613 yellow, so we're gon na tone her as light as i can get to represent the white, because it's the trans Leg, so it's blue white and pink first things. First, i have got to wash the yellow out of this hair i'll, be right back now to the iphone footage. All right, let's get started, i have my hot water bucket, ready your hair's gone into the bucket. Oh all right trying to tone this hair. I am using shimmer lights shampoo and i stir it all up with one of those little like mixer things i got from joanne fabrics you used like froth coffee. It really worked. Well all right. It'S going to tone that for about five minutes to take the yellow out the hair, all right we are back, she is all toned out and i dried her girl. She turned out lovely. I just say that little frother i got that really actually worked like blend. The shampoo together, i'm actually intrigued to see how it works for like actual hair dye, because when i do watercolor that's always the big pain is getting that dye to foley mix, i'm sitting there with a whisk, like also i love it when, like a human hair, Wig is dry because you get this moment check it out. It'S like beyonce's in my kitchen, wow, that's the fantasy. All us dry queens live for with human hair. We all want that beyonce fan moment just like. Ah, you like stomped on the runway air flies everywhere. Now it's time to start doing the color? Yes, so i'm going to do the roots first or are we doing the bottoms? First, we are going to start with the roots five seconds later scratch that okay, i figured out what i'm doing i'm gon na do the bottom first. Yes, that's what we're doing we're gon na do the bottom first, so we're gon na do the pink on the bottom, with the hair dye. I'Ve never used before arctic fox. So that way, if this goes south i'll, just cry, it'll be one of those videos. Influencers post, where they cry in their kitchen: okay, it's gon na turn to that video! No! Oh! That'S right! I have a lower body. Now my hair is out of frame, but that doesn't matter. I'M gon na take her off the head because we're gon na prep her for watercolor. This is so much fun. It'S like arts and crafts - oh my god, especially when i'm doing it we put on my sensual sexy gloves. Oh, it's like juno birch, right in front of your eyes and add red to the tips of these gloves. This is gon na. Be great. Look at me, domestic goddess, i'm going to prep the water so that we can watercolor her i'll be right. Back now. Comes the hard part we're using arctic fox, temporary hair dye and i'm swishing that up and that stuff was really thick like it really took a long time to dissolve, and afterwards it didn't even do anything so we're going to try something else. That'S canceled we're gon na use a door one of my favorites and mix that in with a little bit of that arctic fox, that's gon na give us that instant. Look. We want just a little bit, though, because i want to be baby pink. I did a test swatch with some hair and it ended up actually dying. Look at that. Yes, baby pink, my favorite color all right now, let's dip the ends of that hair in there and dye them. Yes, because we want pink ends for this hair. Just put it on in that water, color and squish it around. They say about five to ten minutes. It really does work like i honestly stand by a door, a door. I stand you, you are amazing holy crap. It really actually works. You guys on human hair and honestly just switch swish in that water for about five to ten minutes. Until the hair is the color you want and rinse it out. We are back all right. I dipped this hair and she is looking so cute. Yes, look here, show you the back she's cute. She has a nice little dyed tip wig. Yes, now i just cut the hair on the head and i dipped it into the watercolor and that seemed to work the best. I did it twice now, the first time i did it. I just used this stuff, this arctic fox stuff, and it was not the tea girl um. As far as water curling went, it needed a little more help, so i mixed it with a little bit of a door pink rose, because that's what i had on hand and together, i feel like they did the job like i got the color i wanted. Instead of doing it with the whole wig in my hand, i actually kept the wig on the head, so i can gauge where the hair was gon na land and we just dipped it in like that, and it turned out really really cute. Now i did shampoo this to lighten the color a bit, but i feel like we got that nice beautiful, baby, pink color. We wanted, because, honestly, when i saw this wig when she walked in the work room, you guys i gasped. I thought. Oh, my god, that's the most beautiful thing. I'Ve ever seen so now it's time to start doing the roots. So what i'm going to do is i have to block out the lace because there's a full lace wig. So i'm going to use some vaseline and just get a good smear of it on the lace to protect it, so it doesn't die. Well, you know. So it doesn't. You know end up the color of blue because i don't want the lace to be blue. I want to keep it nice and peachy this part's always the worst, because it's like making puppets it's just so messy. It is now time to start doing the roots. Now i have baby blue here all right here we go. Let'S do this all right now, as you all know, i am a wonderful hairdresser, i'm great at styling hair, but when it comes to like doing coloring, it's a whole new journey. For me, okay, i'd say i'm partly inspired, because ernie on his channel has been going through quite the human hair journey and like learning how to color, hair and everything, because he's obsessed with all those colors. As you all know me, by now, you should realize i only usually wear one shade of hair if i get human hair, it's generally in blonde, because all i ever wear is blonde and i see them and coloring it because i don't wear it. If i do adventure out in color, it's usually with, like maybe a black wig here and there just like show variety, but for the most part i don't usually play around with coloring my hair too much and as far as coloring human hair goes. I always kind of got scared off of it, because for the longest time i always thought there was one way to put color into hair, and that was with hair dye like sitting there with all those chemical dyes and doing it. And then i realized, like all these amazing girls on youtube, are coloring their hair using adore like watercolor method, and i think it's so great. Like girls like miss rosh posh, i love her videos. That'S her so far check it out. It'S blue look at my reference. Photo because i'm looking at closely enough, i believe carrie actually went a little further back into her hair. I might not go that far back, because this was a little smaller, so we might play it a bit more to our own strengths but baby. I tell you i was gasping when i saw that hair so pretty. I was like what how brilliant to do that to a wig like what an entrance and that's always the intimidating thing about doing, drag races like one of the big things like what am i going to wear when i walk in, because it like sets the tone For everything, even if you don't stay there very long, they get a sense of what your style is all right. This is what i got so far check her out. I'M trying to be careful, so i don't actually drip on myself for the wig all right. I have it all foiled up so that the blue sections don't touch any of the blonde she's in foils she's, good she's. Setting now i understand why people who do human hair wigs charge so much for the color jobs they do because girl. This was so much work and i only did the front half of the roots. I can imagine folks that do crazy, colors all over the place, like you earned that paycheck honey. All right, you did. You earned it now, i'm gon na let her process i'll be right. Back we'll start all right, so it came time to rinse out the roots. Let'S just say it was an unexpected journey. Now i started by rinsing it out normally with just water, and then i got a little brown thought, let's put shampoo in this and see if i can get the color to lighten a little bit. So i shampooed the wig for a little bit. But then i was feeling extra brave and had the idea, let's put it inside the tub alright. So after i put the wig in the tub, i started shampoo and that turned into a huge mistake, because some of the blue started watercolor on the blonde. So i yanked it out right away and dumped that water out. That was a mistake and i went back to just shampooing it and rinsing it out normal and being extra careful this time to make sure nothing transfers. So i really just held that blue over the drain to make sure it didn't transfer. Let'S start curling it all right. So, as you can see, mine doesn't go quite as back as hers did. Hers went all the way back here, but i wanted to like leave my just the roots honestly curling iron time and, as you all know, i'm in a curling iron you can go either way drop the heat gorgeous all right. Well, that's two down now, just like 40 more to go, but i won't make you sit through that i'll catch you all in just a quick. Second, all right, we are back y'all already know this by now. This is kind of like my first time, really like going in depth with you guys and trying to like do something super hardcore when it comes to coloring, because i normally don't do that. It'S not without my forte. If it takes any longer than two hours. I don't want to do it, but that's me with life honestly. I am so excited, especially about like the new season. Everything like i always love when a new drag race season starts because, like you get to meet a whole new crop of girls, you didn't know before you already know this. I am obsessed with drag, so i want to know where it comes from all aspects of life, especially from doing drug history and stuff. You never quite know exactly where the next superstar is coming from and drag race is a really good opportunity for that, like especially this season, there's so many girls from so many different places. Besides like new york and california, that seems to be like the occupied space. For so many seasons, to be quite honest with you, the blue came out a little darker than i intended. It said it was baby blue, but it sort of cured more of like a true blue rather than an actual baby blue. I still think it looks really really pretty it's serving more of like that popsicle you had as a kid. You know the red white and blue one. Now i'm gon na do a little subtle permatease to this, because i don't want to like tase away all the roots that did all that work. You don't want to like. Take it all away now i like the way she did hers, because it looks so so pretty and honestly, with a wig and hair color scheme like this can get harley quinn, real quick, but hers looks so beautiful, but no, i had to talk about the season. 14 preview, we got with the work rooms some of the runways - oh my god, like did y'all, see willow pills, my goodness people were feeling some type of way about it. Like i saw some people really didn't care for it. I thought it was kind of hilarious. It reminded me of ashley tisdale, like remember how she showed up at red: carpets like full-on uggs and like a jean, with a skirt over it and six belts, icon and honestly fashion is stupid. Anyway, you should always break the rules of fashion. Why not it's yours? To interpret as you can tell, i never follow the rules of fashion, make up your own rules and break them, and it just goes to show girl drags a change in times or a change in the things that were once in vogue are no longer the case Anymore, you just got ta deal with it, sis it's how it works. If you stick around long enough, the things you like about drake will probably come back into fashion. It'S sort of like you know. People are hobby and rockabilly clothing and things like that. Wan na dress, like they're from the 50s - i wouldn't know anything about that, but they found a whole new subculture of just loving. That kind of look, let that be your stance and your position. Don'T waste your time and breath being angry at somebody's fashion, just because you don't like it and y'all already know human hair just teases up like that, like you, don't want to do a whole lot to it. You don't do a whole lot to it. So i'm not going to i'm just going to give it enough to where it gives an extra lift. So it doesn't look like you know, teeny tiny, on my head because she wore her straight onto her head and she's got great bone structure. She can pull that off. I do not and full disclosure. I am fairly new to the whole hair coloring process, i'm not afraid to admit that and i have made a few mistakes like, for instance, when i was doing the roots and i was rinsing them out. I made a mistake of putting them inside a bath and basically rinsing the hair in it with water. It wasn't a good idea because it ended up bleeding into some of the hair here and i could do like a bleach bath to get it out. But at that kind of time i think it looks pretty, and you know it's just it's telling a color story. Okay, that's the that's the term for in the salon, it's a color story, but i think she's looking so pretty look at her! Ah, this wig said trans rights - oh beautiful, okay! Well, i'm going to do a little bit of smoothing off camera, just to make sure she's, nice and camera ready and i'll be right back with the final result. Welcome back! Oh my god! This is the final result. Okay, this one harley quinn on me real quickly, the second one on my face. It went into a harley quinn kind of vibe, which kind of walks that fine line anyway, it's like harley quinn going to the opera, but i love it. I think it's really really pretty now on my own time, i'll, probably do a bleach rinse on you know the sides here just to make it look more blonde, because some of that blue dearly did bleed through, but i think it is so pretty and i made Sure to do a very wearable teased hairstyle for those who are asking for it look how beautiful and glamorous it looks. Oh i'm ready for the social occasion. Oh if you, like my dress, it's from pinup girl, clothing, they're, nice enough to send me some wonderful pr. Like this jane dress, how appropriate and these earrings i enjoyed doing this for the most part, i have to say, like it - was fun being able to experiment with like dying and everything if they managed to make it so that didn't take so long. I wouldn't mind that, but i will be dying something again in my next video because well i have to do a whole video after this. Now, when it comes to things, i would have done differently. What i could have done is possibly put vaseline all over the lace and just dip that front section into the die. That probably would have worked a lot better than the way i was doing it, but you live, and you learn if i ever do roots on a wig again i'll. Try it that way instead, because this was a bit more time consuming than it probably needed to be, but that's part of learning. This is what we have for now. We have internet and learning together teamwork and if you have suggestions in the bottom, please make sure and leave them, because i love reading those and learning new things. Remember i'm learning too. Okay we're on this journey together in 2022, it's a hair journey! Now i have to take a moment of that moment where i think everyone's tipped me on then no, i would like to thank sergio. I did that without even opening my phone, because i already knew - and i have two cashettes from ben and regina. Thank you all for watching the tips on van mel and the cash hat now, don't forget to like comment and subscribe, and until next time bye now hit the outro click here until we style a human hair wig i made from scratch or if we style a 50, human hair bob from amazon come on click it. You know you want to. If you don't click it i'll, destroy your character, like you did leon kennedy in the new resident, evil movie - oh my god. It'S so bad! You guys so click it

Барби 🎀: Jaymes, you should challenge yourself to see how many wigs you can put together to make the BIGGEST wig ever!!!!!!!

Michelle Lynn: I love you. I been in a dark place recently and when i watch you it motivates me to get back into my wigs.

MTHW: When I was a teen I had emerald green hair, then went to silver for a while, mostly using temp dyes like that. I remember I would dilute 4 drops of violet dye into a bunch of conditioner and use that to tone my hair a silver blonde. I eventually found a violet based black and diluted it with water (cos it would turn green in conditioner?) to go a midtone grey/gunmetal grey. Also Fanci-Full hair dye would cover any trouble areas lol. It's kinda weird how simple it was.

Boogie Bear: That end result looks lovely on you Jaymes x Also, isn't it time that Sergio got an invite from you and Ernie to come round for dinner sometime? xx

Emilia Canelas: Loveeeeee the video as always !! You never fail to make me laugh whilst producing a fabulous wig, at the same time, the talent is on another level ! Love you Jaymes !! <3

Leon J: Ernie’s burst of laughter at “bottoms first” was me.

Robbert Nyhan: Love it! And to get the color out, you can do the reverse watercolor method with baking soda, dish soap, and shampoo! Then deep condition and you'll be all good!

E: The final wig looked great you can mix the dyes with conditioner until you get the tone you want and then apply it to the wig

Sandra: I love how it turned out, Jaymes! You always bring and do your BEST on every hair appointment!! And you just brighten up the day. Or night. I'm glad to be on this fashion hair journey together.

Lucas Sanchez: You're such a good gal ! I love watching you grow and evolve, you're soooo talented

Antonio Glow: Yaaasss Jaymes! I love that you’re doing more human hair! You should also check out SlayedByJordan. He goes pretty in depth about water coloring hair. We learning together girl!

Velma Joan Belle: Ok. This is so so beautiful! You may not think it’s perfect but I think it looks absolutely stunning! The color is and the styling made me gasp! So pretty

Zymon B.: so interesting how jaymes color since i color my hair like crazy for almost 2 years now. what i do to prevent bleeding from blonde pieces is to cover the blonde parts with conditioner, also adds extra care for your hair uwu

SexxStar: So great to see you switch it up and show dying techniques. love this.

S D: Omg I love this!!!! You are great. Keep experimenting with colour. You and Ernie are killing it!!!!

Adam Mocaby: Love it Jaymes. You did really well even being not so comfortable with dye yet.

Brayn Roquero: Just want to say that your vids make my day so much better. I am always getting butterflies in my tummy if I see that you uploaded a vid! So happy for you and now I'm also enjoying Ernie's channel. You ar both so awesome!!!!

harry tuttle: That pink shade looks gorge on you!

Braun_Dzign: That dress is gorgeous on you, Miss Jaymes. Pinup Girl is the bees knees.

Carl Brain: I love it all smoothed out!

Mason Finley: Happy Saturday Miss Gorgeous!!! Thank You for this upload. Ya always make us smile and laugh. & Lawddddd knows we need it

Laynie Fingers: I freaking love Adore hair color! I use the neon pink usually!

S H: This video was really fun to watch, I like seeing you try new things

Danny Townsend: Loved the video as always. I liked the effect of the blue bleeding into the blonde and don't think it necessarily needs to be bleached out

robesticles: just have a dedicated immersion blender for blending dye, you can get a cheap one for like 12dollars or cheaper. also another type for mixing something thick with a liquid is just do a splash of water first to thin it out and add more water til you get whatever you want, you can do this in a little side bowl so you can get your exact color with more control also

Ari's Lamb: omg i gasped when i saw kerri walk in with that wig too! im glad u made this jaymes

Carl Brain: It's all started at the beginning of the panorama... I wanted blue hair, little did I know the tedious and PAIN staking process... but along my journey I learned that baking soda Dawn method to fade, also purple shampoo fades the blue FAST! So 6 bleaches/blues later I am finally over it and just dying that sad sad hair black till it slowly gets cut off and explodes in a ball of fire on the floor... and that is when I realized had i used a wig my hair would be FINE and I could have whatever color I wanted. THUSLY loved this final look and can't wait to see more dye experiments. P.s. also did cruella once had to use Vaseline to block the blonde hair to get the black into straight straight line (touchups)

Colin Buchanan: I use Arctic Fox to color my real hair, it's served me well!

Terrie Savage: love the pink. what about just doing highlights in the blue along the front? fun to watch as always

Julie Cook: Lovely!!! Great job x

Lamar Latrell: I would love to see jaymes do some textured hair wigs

Marcel Blair: To lighten the color you can also mix some conditioner in it when applying to the hair

Rob The Newb: I love how we need the wig head in the background to judge Jaymes' work....yesssssss

Toxina DQ: I’m all here for more hair coloring videos!

John Perko: You do look gorgeous in this wig

Sapphire Courtney: Yus I love Kerri Colby she's amazing and very nice I knew her before rupauls drag race kinda

Santos Escobar: Woow, I love it ❤️

Star Shiranui: It's interesting that the Arctic Fox didn't work out, but I wonder if it doesn't take to water coloring. Because I've used their colors before with just normal dying on my hair and it turns OUT.

James Brown: Jaymes! Glamorous queen, glamorous hair, and glamorous kitchen! xoxoxo

Danielle B: The other end of the hair color brush is made to separate the hair. So u don't have to use a separate comb unless u choose to do it that way

Aaron Helms: That blue is really pretty, even if it's darker than what you wanted it to be. I think with a darker color paired with it, it would look really good. I think as a whole wig it would be a bit...much though. :/

NAME: I had the same thing as Jaymes Mansfield I can go to be happy tonight.

Deborney Armando: ...it's a color story...love that⭐⭐⭐⭐

Linda Brunswick: Dying with Jaymes brought me much joy

Silentus Knight: Hi Jaymes, maybe since you are in an experimenting mood maybe you can show us how you would style an Afro. I’m always looking to try it and all it turns into is frizz. Any tips?

retrovelour: love you, jaymes. <33

Treytino: Nothing is worse than when you are used to working with adore’s semi permanents and u try to water colour with any other brand

Alex Gatto: She's definitely a classy Harley Quinn but who cares?! To be really real I actually quite disliked the original, the trans flag inspiration is cool but I definitely didn't find the blue roots flattering, but that's just one opinion! FYI Brad Mondo says basically the only way to protect the lace on a HH wig while dyeing the roots is to feather the colour in with a toothbrush. Personally I would not rely on Vaseline to protect it during a dip dye but there's no harm in trying it with a cheap wig you don't care about!

MichelGervaisArt: "Look at me 'domestic goddess' " ilysm

Charlie Quiroga: I love you Jaymes

Joe Kharouf: Looks great. Gurl we need to get you some Xmondo color from Brad Mondo

Peter Huestis: OMG, I use "Shimmer lights" on my beard, LOL.

🌹 kusuo saiki 🌹: 1:45 Do you mean a frappe machine? Xdxdxdxdd Great wig, loving season 14 so far

Cyril Cabalquinto: Jaymes you should try to male a Koji Ichikawa inspired hair

evenstar: Arctic fox can't be diluted with water and is put directly on the hair

Rhea Litré: You diiiiiid that!!!!

Matti Watrin: Arctic Fox isn't supposed to be diluted in water, it's made to be applied on the hair and then rinses it with water

T Dawg: Try out some hair dye patterns! give us some nicki minaj leopard print hair realnice

Cesar Lorenzo: “ Crying on the Kitchen…”… I can’t….

Antonio Broccoli Porto: The hair you are wearing before you start is a Benjamin Franklin Recreation during the 18C….he used to wear a fur hat so the women wanted to pay homage to their idle by doing that pill box look…just a little history…that’s without the flip.

Forest Tomlin: I live for Jaymes in the kitchen

Huss417: There are cast iron bathtubs. So water in the sink and the tub could make for the confusion. :)

Cristian Mendoza: You’re so funny

T Dawg: 3:09 giving me trisha paytas vibes lol <3

Carl Brain: Always do the Bottom First!

nicholas brown: Listen, I dont like ms. Kristine Leanne as much as the next gurl but I think that artic fox stuff is supposed to be used dry

Tyson K: For a second, I thought Beyoncé was actually in your kitchen.

UltraTech: Cool! Was about to watch Pit Stop but you're more important

Lipstick Zombie: What's cookin' good lookin'? <3

Clarence Marsh: Your wigs vs the wind

FilbieTron: Those two curling irons on the counter are looking a lil sus

rextrek: 63rd....It's Jaymes Mansfield..the One, the Only WIG WHISPERER...MWAHHAA! xo

clolton: arctic fox company is made by a youtuber btw! and i oop

Eddie Eduardo: Spice girls all of their say you’ll be there wigs

Carl Brain: Yesssss

Tim Duplissey: No, you should have left the roots blonde and went from light to dark, so blonde roots, pink shaft and blue ends.

Tori Nado: First

Tim Duplissey: Glad to see she's not on something in this video.
