Our hair can bring out our best features, and when choosing a wig this is exactly what we’re aiming for: hair that accentuates the elements in our face we feel make us beautiful and unique.

Every one of us is built differently. Our genetic makeup and build make us unique. They shape how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us.

The shape of the face especially determines many biological reactions from subconscious emotions to finding the perfect partner.

Our hair can bring out our best features, and when choosing a wig this is exactly what we’re aiming for: hair that accentuates the elements in our face we feel make us beautiful and unique.

While each one of us is different our facial features can be categorised into seven different shapes. Certain wig styles will be best suited to different face shapes.

Let’s take a look at how to choose the right wig to shape your face perfectly

  1. Heart Face Shape

Look: A heart-shaped face has a larger forehead that comes down to a narrowed chin similar to a triangle, with the hairline jutting out in the middle, usually in a triangular shape. The hairline combined with facial features give this type of face a heart-shaped look.

Wig: Look for a wig that creates more volume around the hairline and the jawbone. Bangs and shoulder-length hair are perfect. Try and stay clear of short bobs.

  1. Oblong Face Shape

Look: Oblong is a long, evenly shaped face. The forehead comes down in a straight line past the jaw and to the chin.

Wig: Here you want to look for a wig that evens out all the face. Keep away from wigs that only volumize the crown and instead look for wigs of varying sizes that shorten the face. Bangs will cover the forehead while curls or waves beef up the cheeks.

  1. Round Face Shape

Look: Round faces are distinguished by the cheekbones, which are the widest part of the face.

Wig: Short bob wigs are best to thin the face. Find wigs with diagonal bangs or that ‘messy’ look. You’ll want volume on top, not on the sides.

  1. Diamond Face Shape

Look: Diamond-shaped faces are quite evened out up until the jawbone when the face line forms an upside-down triangle down to the chin.

Wig: Add volume to the hairline. Shorter bob wigs are preferable or a longer do with a fringe. Cut back on jawbone width by moving volume down around the chin. The best wigs for this shape will have layered cuts.

  1. Inverted triangle Face Shape

Look: This shape is nearly the opposite of the diamond. The forehead is narrow while the cheekbones and chin are wide.

Wig: Streamline the face by adding volume to the crown. Layers at the crown are best angled, as in shaggy hair with bangs.

  1. Square Face Shape

Look: A straight chin, jaw, cheekbones and hairline characterise the square face.

Wig: You want to create narrowness. Again, here it is advisable to add volume to the crown. Emphasis is on long wigs and length, long hair pieces pulled slightly over the forehead will create a longer look.

  1. Oval Face Shape

Look: While this face shape is slightly more about length than width, it is very balanced. From forehead to chin the face line curves evenly down. This shape is the most feminine.

Wig: This shape suits almost all styles of wig from short bobs to shaggy shoulder-length hair to long curly dos. In this case it is best to focus on other positive features such as eyes and lips.
