For many years wear a wig has been surrounded by a certain sense of stigma and taboo. Many people are reluctant to admit that they even wear a wig, for fear that people will judge them negatively. However, this outdated attitude is slowly starting to change.

Thanks to these modern celebrities, wig-wearing has entered the mainstream psyche, and more women are choosing to use wigs to change the look of their hair than ever before.

Here are four of our favourite celebrities that wear wigs:

Tyra Banks

Supermodel and entrepreneur Tyra Banks was one of the first high profile celebrities to be very focal about wearing wigs to change and update her style. Tyra often chooses lace front human hair wigs to create a natural hair line that allows her hair to blend seamlessly with her make up.

Lace front wigs are also a great choice if you want to be as versatile with your wig as you would be with your natural hair. This means that you can wear it up in a ponytail or up ‘do, pull it away from your face, and even create a modern wet look style without any obvious or visible seams.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé is famous for her long and luscious locks, but what you may not know is that she achieves this incredible look by using a range of different lace fronted human hair wigs.

Beyoncé favours human hair wigs because they can be heat styled to create a range of versatile and incredibly natural-looking hairstyles, which is how she is able to achieve the incredibly full and tight curled style that so many of her fans covet.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is famous for her ever-changing sense of style, and rather than risk ruining her hair to keep up with her desire for the new and the innovative, she chooses to wear wigs instead. From the long and ice blonde style of her first music video to her more recent vintage-inspired yellow curls, almost all of Lady Gaga’s most iconic hair style have been wigs.

Lady Gaga says that she uses wigs to give her confidence:

“When I don’t feel strong enough to be me, I created someone else.”

If you’re choosing to wear a wig as a result of alopecia or cancer-induced hair loss then this mantra is a great one to follow to boost your self-confidence throughout the process.

Kylie Jenner

Finally, one of the youngest members of the Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner is well known for choosing to wear wigs to add thickness and volume to her naturally straight and fine hair. Kylie also uses wigs to add colour to her hair, ranging from natural brown and blonde tones to more eye-catching and statement making green and lilac shades.

Kylie’s hair is a great example of what can be achieved if you step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with colour when choosing your new wig.

Wearing a wig allows you to be bold and make extroverted colour decisions you might not consider if you are colouring your own hair.
