Perhaps you always dreamed of long hair as a child or you associated short hair with a strong professional image. The question is, does your current hair length still work for you?

Women tend to become attached to a specific hair length. There are so many factors that go into what length and style hair we expect ourselves to have. Perhaps you always dreamed of long hair as a child or you associated short hair with a strong professional image. The question is, does your current hair length still work for you? Here are some reasons why you might want to reconsider.

Short Hair

Short hair is cooler, easier to style, and it can provide a great professional look. Some women select a short wig because it seems like the lowest maintenance option following chemo. It might be the style you wore for years and, when you switched to a wig, you stuck with that same style. Many women, when they first start wearing wigs, pick out cheaper synthetic wigs. Many of those types of wigs only come in shorter hair styles. Now could be the time to upgrade to human hair wigs than not only look better, they also provide the option to use heat styling tools and change the hairstyle when desired.

On the other hand, if you’ve been wearing a longer wig, you should take a look at the shorter styles that are now available. In the past, the types of hairstyles that looked good in wigs was relatively limited. New materials that are now used to form the caps in high-quality wigs have changed all that. It is no longer necessary to have a fringe to cover the hairline in order to avoid the wig cap from being visible. Hairstyles with a part, the hair styled away from the face, and even pixie cuts are options. If you’ve been avoiding short hair because you thought it wouldn’t look natural, it is time to think again. Shorter hair has the added bonus of being cooler to wear so now is the perfect time of the year to consider going short.

Long Hair

For some of us, we just expect to have long hair. It can be feminine, sexy, or sporty. It has the advantage of offering options to do up-dos, wear it down, or pull it back in a ponytail. For women with hair loss, there can be a tendency to stick with a wig with longer hair. Perhaps you are simply replacing your original long hair or it could be a long wig helps you feel less like you need a wig.

If you haven’t tried a wig with longer hair, there could be a few reasons. Human hair wigs and wigs with innovative synthetic fibres can both look great in both long and short hairstyles. Human hair wigs can be heat styled so the options are virtually endless. Another reason some women have avoided longer hair is they are concerned that the heavier weight of the longer length will make the wig more likely to slip out of place. Perhaps you even personally experienced this while wearing a cheap wig. Fortunately, the newer materials used by modern high-quality wigs have enabled the creation of wig with caps that fit more securely. This helps to provide peace of mind, even with longer hairstyles. For extra security, you can even wear your wig in conjunction with a wig liner or wig cap. Wig tape is another easy way to help ensure your wig stays in place.

There is a compromise option if you aren’t sure you want to go longer and are worried about investing in a new wig. Hairpieces can be used with your existing hair or wig to allow you to enjoy more volume with your existing style or to add a ponytail, up-do, or other longer section of hair. That can be a great way to experiment with your current style or get ready for a switch to a wig with longer hair.

Shoulder Length Hair

A mid-length wig can provide a number of advantages, it can easy to take care of and it can be cooler than a longer wig. In the past, many women defaulted to a medium length wig because that was the most readily available for daily wear. If you’ve been wearing a medium length wig because you weren’t aware of the other options that are available, now would be an excellent time to try something new.

Keep in mind that if you were going to the salon every month or two, you probably would have made changes to your hairstyle over the years. Don’t let yourself be limited simply because your wig doesn’t require frequent trims to keep it in shape. Mix it up to keep things interesting.
