Imagine this scenario: you’re opening the oven to take a peak at that delicious baked turkey when POOF, a gust of hot air comes barrelling out. We’ve all felt it before and probably didn’t give it much thought other than a momentary OUCH, but did you know that the heat can melt and singe synthetic fiber? Patti herself has done it countless times and it can be seemingly hard to avoid!

Ovens, stove tops, even hot dishwashers can bring the threat of singeing, melting, and scorching.

So, what can you do to protect your wig? Many opt for wearing a softie and then trading it out for a wig before guests arrive, but sometimes this isn’t an option!

Here’s some helpful tips we have gathered over the years for protecting your wig whilst cooking:

  • Wear a beanie or headband – Covering the front hairline of your wig with an adorable beanie, softie, or headband takes the fear out of cooking by shielding the fiber from heat! Not to mention, it helps keep your hair out of your face. A win-win in the world of cooking!
  • Wear your hair in an updo –  Ponytails are a favorite when it comes to food preparation and they aid in keeping your hair away from direct heat! Try a fun updo, a messy bun, or a half-up style!
  • Don’t stand too close – Often times the initial gust of hot air when opening an oven, dishwasher, or covered pot is the culprit in singeing fiber. Make sure to lean away while this passes and try to avoid direct heat as much as possible!
  • Wear an older wig – Have an older wig on hand that you don’t plan to wear much longer? Wear it around the house while cooking and then trade it out for a newer one before guests arrive! Mix in the tips above to reduce the risk of damage and voila: You’ve kept your holiday hair safe!

Now you’re ready to prepare a feast and keep stresses out of your tresses!
