Wigs can make a great addition to your wardrobe. Whether you’re wearing a wig to cover hair loss or simply to change your look, a quality wig can boost your self-confidence, and help you achieve the style you’ve always wanted.

Properly caring for your wig will help to increase its lifespan and ensure it looks as good as possible. Here are our top wig maintenance tips.

Understanding your wig

Before you begin cleaning your wig, it’s a good idea to find out as much as possible about it and its materials. Synthetic wigs and human hair wigs require slightly different cleaning regimes and will behave differently with different products. It’s also worth remembering that wigs, regardless of the materials they’re made from, don’t produce oils like your scalp. This means they won’t need washing as often as natural hair. In fact, washing your wig too often can cause it to degrade faster.

Handle with care

Whenever you clean or style your wig, it’s important to be gentle.

Remove your wig gently and try to ensure it’s not put through any unnecessary wear and tear during the cleaning or styling process.

Shampoo and condition

There are a number of specialist shampoos and conditioners on the market specifically formulated for use with wigs. These products will help to protect the materials in your wig and ensure you get a great result from each wash. We offer a range of products for use on both human hair and synthetic hair on our website.

Dry and style

Once you’ve gently shampooed and conditioned your wig, it’s time to dry and style it. For best results, avoid drying your wig on a mannequin head as this stretches the base whilst the wigs is wet. Instead we would always recommend a wig stand to allow the air to pass through naturally and not stretch the base.

Once dry, you can use our styling products to achieve a fantastic finished look.
