Leading a healthy lifestyle is the key to keeping your body and mind in tip-top condition. Along with eating well, exercising regularly should be a part of your everyday life, so why should wearing a wig get in the way?

Working out in a wig is a challenge for every wearer at some point or another but with our top tips, you can wear your wig with confidence, wherever and however you choose to exercise.

Use a waterproof adhesive

It is possible to work out and wear a wig. Extra precautions however need to be taken to ensure your wig stays secure, especially if your routine is vigorous.

You may find that your regular, everyday adhesive doesn’t provide the security you need if you’re sweating excessively. Switching to a waterproof and oil-resistant adhesive will provide that all-important protection and keep your wig in place, even if you’ve pushed yourself hard at the gym.

Most of the waterproof wig adhesives on the market are solvent-based, which means water, sweat and other moisture won’t wash them away.

Waterproof adhesives and tapes are great options if your exercise of choice is swimming too. Find more advice on swimming in your wig here.

Invest in a no-sweat liner

Wig liners are always recommended for the warmer, more humid summer months but they’re useful all year round, especially when working out.

Also known as ‘no sweat liners’, wig liners provide extra ventilation, giving your head the space to breathe. They also reduce sweating and collect any excess perspiration so it has less chance of compromising the adhesive that keeps your wig in place.

Prioritise wig care

Stepping up your wig care routine is another must if you sweat excessively when working out. But as cosmetologist and medical aesthetic provider Jeanna Doyle explains, there are a couple of tricks you can use to avoid over-washing your wig:

“If you sweat a lot while working out. it may require more frequent washing. To extend the time between washing, you can use a skin toner to freshen up any unwanted odours for the lining or a spray-on dry shampoo.”

Try an updo for your workout

Keeping your hair off your neck and back will keep you cooler when working out as well as offer a fantastic excuse to experiment with a few updos. Braids and buns are ideal for workouts. Avoid a ponytail as this can pick up and absorb the sweat from your neck and back.

Don’t forget to accessorise

Here at Wigs4u, we stock several accessories that keep you stylish with and without a wig. Those wanting to work out and keep their wigs fresh will love our scarves. They provide complete and comfortable coverage so you can exercise with confidence, even without your wig!

Keeping your wig off your face and neck with a hair wrap is another option for working out in a wig. Alternatively, you can rock a sporty look at the gym or when running with our baseball hats with hair.
