My Hair Story - Dahlia

My Hair Story - DahliaIntroduce yourself . . .

I am 17 going to be a senior next year. I’ve been natural for 8 months and I am loving it!

Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?

I am natural

What’s your hair story, how did you get to where you are?

Well my mom always did my hair up until the fifth grade. That was when I asked her if I could get a relaxer. I loved it so much, but my mom didn’t give me another one after that because I got scabs on my scalp. So after that we turned to the straitening iron* and that’s when the “addiction” began.

I got so many compliments and attention that by the time middle school ended I was straitening every single day.

In the 10th grade I got three sew in’s in a row and did not take care of my real hair AT ALL. So once that last weave* came out my hair was do damaged that I decided that I would give my self a trim. I did it so bad that I went to the shop and decided to do the BC and the rest is history I guess.

What is your typical weekly regimen?

Well I will usually wash my hair on Friday nights, because I hate going places with my hair wet. Then I’ll wear a wash and go on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday night I’ll either twist my hair up for a mini twist out or leave it so that I can put it in a puff the next morning. Then I’ll just alternate between a twist out and a puff through out the week then start all over again on Friday

For sleeping I’ll either sleep with a scarf or a bonnet. Oh and on Wednesdays I deep condition and leave some of in my hair afterwards.

Are you happy with your progress so far?

Yes and I have no regrets. I can’t keep my hair straight for more than two days!

What’s your signature style?

I’ll usually wear a twist out or a high puff depending on how I’m feeling

My Hair Story - DahliaHow do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?

I’m still trying to figure out how to protective style. That’s the thing I’m working at right now. I was never taught how to french braid or anything like that so I’m trying to learn with the help of YouTube.

Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?

I’m concerned about both. I would really like to get my hair at least down to my shoulders by spring of 2014.

Is there anything that you hair hates?

Pink oil! My hair HATES pink oil! Oh and braid outs. I’ve never done a proper braid out.

Do you have any favorite hair products?

Cantu shea butter leave in conditioning and repair cream is my staple.

Where can we find you online?

You can follow me on instagram @templejones and I do have a really old YouTube channel called MsDahliaJones. It’s just full of home videos though.
