My Hair Story - Angel Mrs M

Introduce yourself….

Hi my name is Angel but you can call me (Mrs. M). I’m a stay at home housewife, vlogger and amateur video editor.

Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?

Natural

What is your hair story, how did you get to where you are?

Well as young as I can remember I used to wish and pray for long beautiful hair just like the dolls in the barbie commercials. Wash day was torture for me because my mother (I love her dearly and may she R.I.P.) did not know how to properly deal with my coarse hair as far as detangling which resulted in little to no hair growth.

When I was 7 I begged my mother for a relaxer but instead I had the Jerry curls off and on (w/straightening comb) up until I was 12 yrs old that was when I had my FIRST Relaxer (Dark n Lovely). From that point on up until 2010 (at this point I was 35 yrs old) my hair was falling out until I developed alopecia in the middle of my head due to years of damage from relaxers, weaves and poor treatment.

I big chopped 3 times until the last time in March 2011 I discovered a YouTube video by a Youtuber named “Kimmaytube” watching her hair journey made me look at my own mistakes over the years, like utilizing water everyday for my hair while when I was growing up I was told that was a “white girl” thing.

I immediately started to put what I learned into practice and saw an immediate change in my hair and my hair really started to grow. I also changed my diet, exercised more and made sure I take my vitamins and supplements* every or every other day.

I also learned about the natural hair community on and off Youtube and learned and I’m still learning new ways to deal with and work with my hair. 3 years later I went from a buzzed low cut to hair that has grown past my shoulders. My journey also lead me to this wonderful website. I also learned to embrace and love my natural hair, now don’t get it twisted I still wear my weaves* and wigs sometimes but not often! Now to me hair weaves* are an accessory not a necessity.

What is your typical weekly regimen?

I always co-wash with a inexpensive conditioner with olive oil* and I always work in 4 sections. (When I had a TWA I didn’t have to worry about that) I shampoo, detangle, rinse, then I condition my hair. I usually keep my hair in sections and allow it to air dry either in twists, braids or using the banding method. I use little to no heat on my hair.

Are you  happy with your progress so far?

Yes I am

What is your signature style?

I do protective styles most of the year with braids but I usually do kinky twists, puffs or I put my hair in a bun using extension hair.

How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?

I usually pin and tuck my ends.

Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?

Yes at first I wanted to go for bra strap length but I think I’m going to see if I can grow my hair too my butt..lol

Is there anything that you hair hates?

Relaxers..as far as I know.

Do you have any favorite hair products?

I usually keep it simple Shea butter*, olive oil*, conditioner and alcohol free gel, but for the past year I’ve been using Shea Moisture products* and I love them.
