The Top 6 Bandwagon Natural Hair Trends of 2014

000Bandwagons are often loathed by many because nobody wants to be known as the one who followed the ‘trend’ without really having a passion for the facts.

But we all do it and this year has its fair share of bandwagon trends that down right changed the way that we thought about our hair. For us some bandwagons were kind of awesome because as our knowledge and knack for breaking boundaries increased we ended up with more options now, more than ever before.

Below we list 6 bandwagon trends that we jumped on this year:

 1. Hairfinity Vitamins

With celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Blac Chyna endorsing the vitamins* with 3-month challenges on Social Media, Hairifinity vitamins* without a doubt was one of the biggest trends, if not the biggest in the year of 2014.

Why? Because not only was Hairifinity a big hit among those of us who are familiar with the healthy hair care world, but it was huge for those of us who are not as well. Everyone likes a quick fix and it appeared as if Hairfinity* did just that.

2. Maximum Hydration Method

For many low-porosity, type 4 ladies the MHM or Maximum Hydration Method was a God send! The regimen is based on the use of high-alkaline products such as baking soda and natural gels and conditioners. It helped many women (and men) achieve ultimate moisture and definition for their gorgeous kinks and coils.

Many reported that they had less shrinkage, more weighted curls and coils which is a awesome for fine hair. You are able to have super moist strands without the use of many products after reaching an optimal moisture level.

3. Microtrimming

Although microtrimming has been around for a while, it really blew up this year. For many women who were  looking for ways to thicken up their ends without sacrificing a lot of length, this was their Savior.

When microtrimming you would cut off around 1/8- 1/2 inch of hair every 4-8 weeks. Depending on your hair growth per month/year, this method would allow you to keep retaining length while maintaining thick ends.

04. Texture Manageability Systems

The TMS system caused quite a stir this year! It was created to be the perfect product for naturals who wanted to have a straight hair regimen without the chemicals or heat damage.

The TMS claimed to ensure that you could go back and forth between straight and natural hair without the worries of whether your hair will revert back to its natural curl pattern or not. For some ladies the TMS was the coolest thing since slice bread and for others not so much.

There were also a big debates that surrounded the TMS systems, the biggest one being “What were the chemicals that were used to keep natural hair straight for so long?”.

After much digging or just a simple ingredient search on Google, it turned out to a formaldehyde-free chemical that was similar to formaldehyde.

5. African Hair Threading

When we thought that braids and blow outs were the only solution to getting natural hair to stretch out to the max, here walks in African Hair Threading.

Now, don’t get me wrong, African hair threading has been around for a very long time but it was mostly practiced in Africa to get girls hair to stretch and as a form of protection. This timeless method made a breakthrough this year and helped many ladies achieve fully stretched hair without the use of heating tools.

Many ladies even wore and created hairstyles based off of African hair threading. This method has slid into the hair care arsenal for many naturals and I have a feeling that it will be there for a very long time. What a great way for us to tie into our history, who would have thought?

6. Bright Hair Colors

This year, bold hair colors were the thing to do in the black hair community. From Barbie hot pink to mermaid aqua, we were and still are going color crazy, expressing our vibrant personalities through hair colors that many of us would not have fathom to wear a while ago.

For many of us this bandwagon trend is a favorite not just for ourselves to try but a new thing to gawk at on pinterest and on Social Media. I think that this is definitly my favorite trend just because I love to see when ladies say “SCREW SOCIETY!!” and wear hair colors that fit their true personality and individual style.

7. Hair Cuts

We also saw hair gurus with waist length hair starting to cut their hair and other women who were just tired of boring hair, starting to cut and style their natural hair without inhibition.

Getting your hair shaped, faded, designed and big chopped for the 4th time was nothing but a thing it was awesome to watch. Here is to hoping we continue to break boundaries in 2015 and continue to enjoy our hair.

What are some bandwagons that you notice were hot this year?
