Top 20 Hair Products in 2014

I love end of year roundups. They are a great at-a-glance visual of what happened during the course of the year. As the years go by in hair care, we have seen our tastes in hair products change rapidly, leaning towards the more natural and less chemical laden fare. Still, we have a few old faithful products that appear to make the list year after year in spite of less than perfect ingredient lists. I’m sure it would keep a statistician amused for hours.

For me however, the pleasure I get out of top 10 and top 20 lists is comparing my hair product stash against what everyone else is buying. I like to think that I am reasonably well informed in my hair product choice and although I don’t follow the crowd often, I’m up for jumping on a popular bandwagon, as and when they appear (call that a guilty pleasure!).

This year for instance, we have noticed a huge tumble in the popularity of coconut oil*. Once a darling with the BHI readers, showing up usually first or second in the list of popular products, this year has dropped all the way to 7th! I wouldn’t have called that at the beginning of the year.

Another surprising addition to the list this year is peppermint oil*, which tells me that a lot of us out there have become kitchen “mixtresses”, preferring to make our own oil concoctions. Coconut* co-washing has also come storming into the list, when it hadn’t made much of an appearance in previous years.

Another popular product in 2014 is the Babyface Pure Protein*, which is also now also a permanent member of my hair product stash. What I love about it is that I can add a dash of the protein liquid to any of my moisturizing conditioners, and turn it into instant protein conditioner!
