You Can Still Have Wash-n-gos In The Winter!

Winter Wash and Go

Once my hair was finally at a length to where I felt comfortable wearing it in non-protective styles, the first style that I mastered and fell in love with was the wash n go.

This happened this past summer, so mid July when the temps were extremely high and the air was dry and humid- which for me meant that I didn’t even need to pick up a blow dryer*, because the air would dry my hair within minutes on walking around the NYC streets.

However, I was told to retire this style at least for the next couple of months because Jack Frost is in town, and the temperatures in NYC are freezing with a wind chill even lower, and the cold winter air is notorious for stripping your hair of moisture and can leave it dry and limp. I know, I know.

Wash-n-go’s are such an easy go to style and usually, if I am having a bad hair day, I run for my wash-n-go. However, walking outside with wet hair will simply make your hair dry and brittle.

So, you might be asking yourself, what do I do if I have a TWA that is too short for a braid or twist out and responds best to wash-n-go’s?! Well, here is my solution.

Take a spray bottle and fill it with equal parts olive oil* and water. When you wake up in the morning, shake up the bottle a mist your hair with the mixture.

While your hair is slightly moist, work in your very best shea butter* mixture and you should be good to go and your hair should be barely moist by the time you leave the house.

This may not give you the exact results you’re used to, but it is definitely  great alternative if you simply can’t go through the whole winter without your wash-n-go style.
