True Life - I Have No Idea How To Use Edge Control

In my product stash I have more than a few edge control jars all of which are not even half done. You would think if a person purchases a product and it doesn’t work for them or they lack the skill to use it, they would not go out and purchase six more of the same thing!

Not me! I kept trying to style my baby hairs, I wanted this to work but for some reason I could not get the hair to lay the way some of the women on Instagram do.

You see this is a perfect example of how Instagram has us all messed up. We look at these women with the perfect pictures, hair laid, every strand in place, edges perfect and then we head to the bathroom and try to recreate the same thing.

Like clock work on the days I felt like doing something special with my hair I would get my little toothbrush and some edge control and try to create swirls twirls on my forehead and temples then look myself in the mirror with disappointment.

I was just going to the store, I didn’t need all those waves, I looked crazy in my opinion. Either I had no clue about how to perform the art of edge control or swirls are just not for me!

The truth is my hair isn’t special, edge control isn’t rocket science but I came to the conclusion that I did not like the way my edges look when the hair is so laid around the perimeter of my face. It isn’t a matter of skill, it is actually just a matter of preference. Which leads me to the lesson that I discovered and the lesson I want to share with you on this post.

Not everything no matter how gorgeous it looks on the next girl is for you! I have laid my baby hairs only to brush them back, I have pulled down my “side burns” just to have them fuzz up naturally and I have accepted that maybe that’s how mine are meant to look and what I prefer.

The other thing I have learned about myself is that I do not like the consistency of edge control product regardless of the brand, I prefer a butter or just straight gel for slicked back styles.

When I rock a curly ponytail with the crown of my hair pulled back, I add gel to my entire crown with no special styling to my edges and it works for me.

The moral of the story is even if everyone is doing it, it doesn’t mean it will work for you. Call yourself weird if you want to, its just is what it is.

What are some of the things everyone else does that you just cant seen to do or you do not like doing? Comment below!
