Empire Star Serayah Says Fans Get Angry When She Wears Straight Hair

I am a fan of Serayah and her curly hair, who isn’t? However when I read her interview with the New York Daily News where she admitted that her fans get mad at her when they see her out and about rocking straight hair, I couldn’t help but think, it really isn’t that serious.

If you watch Empire you would have noticed that the actress/songstress always rocks her signature curly hair, which she has done all her life. The natural hair community cannot get enough of it because we want natural hair to be the new ‘normal’ for main stream, and women like Serayah help to push that agenda.

Things start to get weird when we start to dictate to people, celebrity or not, how they should style their hair. Here is what she told the New York Daily News about a fan that saw her out and about.

“She was so upset because my hair was straight,” she recalled of a recent run-in with a female fan. “But I get it. I’ve grown up with curly hair and being biracial and things like that, so it’s been a part of my life and I completely understand why they’re obsessed that I’m on television with the way my hair is.”

The natural hair movement is about accepting our curly hair as is without any chemical alteration especially for those of us who have struggled with letting go of the relaxer for so long.

Wearing your hair straight does not make you ‘less natural’, and it is ridiculous for someone to police what styles you choose to wear, even if you like their hair when it is curly.

If anything we should be very appreciative of the versatility of naturally curly hair. We say let the girl live, even though we stan for her hair as much as we are a fan of the actress herself, Serayah can rock her hair straight if she wants to, sheesh!
