Have you been loving the bob styles we have been posting on social media? Honestly the urge to cut my hair into a sleek no-nonsense bob comes almost weekly with some of the styles that I see on social media, but at the same time I do not want to cut my hair just yet so I would rather create a fake one!

If you have long hair you might know what I mean and you might also agree that the power of natural hair shrinkage gives us the option of creating a faux bob whenever I want to rock one.

There is even an option for straight hair if you typically wear your hair straight. Let’s get right into it shall we? Here are 4 ways to create a faux bob on long natural or straight hair.

Use your shrinkage

Shrinkage is a beautiful thing when you want to create a short style on long hair. Simply manipulate your hair where the back maintains the shrinkage it has and you stretch the front portions of your hair.

Check out Alexandria Nicole, she simply uses a comb to create the bob she wanted from a first-day twist out:

If you have stretched curls and you want to create a gradual tapered look then you will some bobby pins* to achieve the style. Simply find the shape you desire so that you know where to pin your hair once you decide on the look you want. Gather the ends of the hair and twist it, then pin and tuck it under the bulk of the hair. Arrange the front of the hair to create the bob. Here is an example of what we mean:

Faux bob on straight hair

When I was relaxed, I was the queen of the faux bob. I simply would roll the ends of my hair and tuck it under the bulk of my hair. Another option is using a small hair tie, gather the hair into a low ponytail and then tuck the ponytail under the bulk of your hair and pin in place.

Arrange the front of your hair to create the bob. We have two examples for you to check out:

That’s it! Would you ever try a faux bob?
