Is It Okay To Use Adult Hair Products On Kids Hair?

I was out and about running errands the other day when a nice woman complimented me on my curly fro. After I thanked her, she then proceeded to ask me for suggestions of products for her child’s curly hair and if I think it’s okay to use “adult” products on her hair.

While I’m no expert or a licensed cosmetologist, I was humbled she wanted to know my opinion. I told her the biggest reason that there were hair lines created specifically for kids to begin with was because they tend to be more gentle and are without harsh ingredients, such as sulfates, parabens and silicones.

They are also packed with oils* and ingredients to help with detangling due to the fact a child’s scalp may be a bit more sensitive. Plus, parents want to make the hair styling process as easy as possible, right?!

I then proceeded to get into the truth that we shouldn’t be using harmful ingredients on our hair as adult’s either, so if you make an effort to buy quality products for yourself that are all natural then they should be okay.

Hair products are evolving and moving towards a more natural composition so the need for kids hair products are dwindling.

Depending on your child’s specific needs, they also have hair products that are ultra sensitive and fragrance free. Some kids require such products due to allergies.

I have had tons of natural hair products that I passed on to my sister to style my nieces’ hair with and they have healthy long flowing beautiful coils. So in my humble opinion I think it’s fine. Just a matter of preference and the needs of your child individually.

What do you think? Would you say it’s okay to go without use of hair products specifically labeled for kids on your child’s hair?
