“Black Is Beautiful" - Vogue Espana Features A Black Model Wearing Cor

Vogue Spain March CoverWe have been hearing a ton about cornrows all month long and not for the best reasons. While we have been content with showcasing all sorts of cornrow styles on young black women, children and on selfies mainstream media has seemingly been more fascinated with showing the style as something that has been newly created.

They even gave it a new name ignoring the historical value of the style and its cultural roots. Despite all this there is some good news. Vogue Espana decided that they wanted to turn things around and their latest cover features a black woman rocking cornrows with the tagline “Black is Beautiful”.

The cover features Ivorian-British model Aya Jones wearing the signature style in beautiful Botswana. The idea behind the shoot was to represent Aya as “The Queen Of Africa” which meant that most of the imagery required her to be shot in the most amazing locations that were local to Botswana and what it was about.

The hair stylist shared a stunning photo of Aya getting her hair done with the help of local Botswanian women:

I do not know about you but there is nothing more beautiful than celebrating African culture on location in its purest and most honest form. Aya is a gorgeous model and in her own words she echoed the appreciation she had for being chosen for such and amazing feature:
