My Go-To Style For Those Nights When I’m Feeling Fancy

Whether it’s a night on the town with my girls or a date night, sometimes you just want to look a Lil’ fancy, and that’s perfectly alright! However, my natural hair doesn’t always get the memo.

One night instead of fighting with it to cooperate, I decided to get a little creative, and that’s how my “go to fancy style” originated. For this style, you can start with any hair type or base style.

For me, it usually works best with a week old twist out or wash n go, because usually I do not have the time to start with freshly washed hair. To start the style I would fluff and pick out my hair, so that it is in a nice big, full afro.

Depending on how my curls are looking, I may simply fluff, and skip the picking if I want to keep some of the definition. This is all about preference.

Next, I grab a firm hold edge control, which for me is Design Essentials Edge Tamer, and start taming my edges. This also depends on preference, because I don’t always want that sleek laid look but rather a simple classic, naturally soft around the edges look. Additionally, since my edges are a bit unruly I like to “set my edges” with my satin scarf.

This involves just tying up my hair with a scarf for about 10-15 minutes during which I tend to do my makeup. After that, I then grab a large elastic headband* and wrap it around my fro once, then a second time until it is at my desired tightness then I begin bringing the hair up towards the front of my head.

I like for some of the hair to stop and hang forward towards my forehead sort of like bangs, but again this is a preference thing…. I like to call it “the Pony Hawk.” If you’re a visual learner, and actually want to see this, then check out the following youtube video below!
