The 3 Major Keys to Get Your Wash-n-Go to Last All Week Long!

I do so many different things to my natural hair. One of the things that I love the most about being natural is how versatile it is. I like it straight, blown out, big and fluffy, and I especially enjoy my wash and gos! When I wear a wash and go it is usually more about convenience.

If I wear this hairstyle I don’t want to have to do a lot to my hair throughout the week. I definitely don’t want to have to co-wash my hair daily. My goal is to make my wash and go last at least 3-5 days, and if I can get 7 days out of the style my week has been phenomenal! As I type this I am currently on day 5 of my wash and go, so it looks like I am going to make it to day 6!

Here are a few of my personal tips on how to get your wash n go to last:

Strong Hold Gel

I’ve found that using a product with a lot of hold is one of the major keys to wash n go longevity. My gel of choice is Argon Oil Eco Styler gel*, because it’s inexpensive, and has amazing hold.

On day one there is a little crunch, but to break the gel cast all I do is rub my hands with coconut oil* and squeeze.

A little crunch is good because it allows for your hair to hold the definition for several days. Throughout the week, the hair gets softer and softer until the crunch is completely gone, and for me, this usually happens between day 3-4.

2. Night Time Routine

Your nighttime routine is crucial. However, crucial doesn’t mean complex. It is very important to make sure that you maintain your hair every night.

For me, all I do is put a satin bonnet* on each night, and that’s it. As much as sometimes I just want to sleep without it, like if my boyfriend is over that night, I don’t. Sorry ladies, but no guy is worth your hair getting dry and disheveled the following day.

3. Oil, Water, and Moisturizer

In the morning when I take off my bonnet, I take out my spray bottle and mix coconut oil*, water, and Camille Rose’s Curl Revitalizer, and then spray that on my curls to hydrate them.

I also use some of my Camille Rose gel and define a few of my curls, as need be, if they are starting to get frizzy. This whole process takes 10 minutes every morning, if that!

What techniques do you use to make your wash-n-go last the whole week?
