Black Woman Confronts White Man Over His Dreads Claiming Appropriation [Video]

black woman harassing a man over his dreadlocksHave you seen the video of a black woman confronting a white man about his dreadlocks? In the video, she accused the man of ‘appropriating’ her culture.

The altercation was recorded on the San Francisco State University campus and the opinions have been mostly on the side of the guy.

In the video the lady is literally putting her hands on the young man telling hims he should not be wearing dreadlocks because its ‘her culture’

“You’re saying that I can’t have a hair style because of your culture? Why?” the man said.

“Because it’s my culture,” she said.

“Are you Egyptian? Nah, man, you’re not.” She asked him if he was Egyptian, and he told her no.

“Wait, where’s Egypt?” she asked. “Tell me.”

He responded: “You know what, girl … you have no right to tell me what I cannot wear.”

The argument gets more heated when she grabbed his arm as he tried to side step her:

“Yo, girl, stop touching me right now,” he said. “I don’t need your disrespect.”

He came down the stairs, and she said, “You put your hands on me, you’re going to learn.”

When the lady notices she is being filmed she blocks the camera with her hands. We do not know what happened afterwards however since the story has gone viral the University has made a statement about it.

“San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others,” the university said. “We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures.”

My opinion? She had no right to put her hands on the young man over his hairstyle, she was absolutely wrong in her confrontation.

I think we have to be careful about the choices we make these days especially when we do not understand what standing up for our culture means. Firstly a white man with dreadlocks is simply a white man with dreadlocks he does not need to be bullied based on how he wears his hair.

If you want to make a statement about cultural appropriation there are way more constructive ways to do it that does not involve getting physical.
