I’ve Failed Almost All of My 2016 Hair Goals and That’s Okay!

As I stare at the calendar and can’t believe we’re almost half way through the year, I can’t help but to want to take inventory on where I am with everything, my goals in particular.

At the end of 2015, I shared with you all 5 things I want to do in 2016 to give my hair a fresh start. I went back to that post to see how I’ve done so far, and quite frankly, not so well.

First on the list was getting a professional trim. The year is not over so I still have time, but the fear of going to a professional stylist after a bad experience is still there. I’m so used to doing my own hair so putting it into someone else hands is tough.

I also said that I wasn’t going to dye my hair the entire year! I had my hair partially dyed blonde since the beginning of my natural journey and have experienced a little damage and noticeable texture change, so I wanted to grow out my natural hair color and see what happens.

One day out of boredom, and wanting to match the shade of my protective style, I colored my hair a dark brown. Yes, darker is healthier, but the fact is I still broke my goal. I also said no to heat and although I haven’t straightened my hair, I have blown it out a few time using heat.

Truth is, looking at that list at first glance I felt down on myself but then shook it off. I haven’t been comparing my hair to others and I have been focusing on growth and intentional healthy hair care which is excellent!

In my opinion, my hair is healthier than it has been in awhile and that’s what matters. Not goals that I penciled down at the beginning of the year.

I wanted to go natural to be free to be me. So I figure if I want to add a little heat or a little dye it doesn’t really matter as long as I’m keeping it healthy and making smart decisions!

How are you doing with your 2016 hair goals?
