5 Early Morning Natural Hair Hacks I Live By

Me and mornings have always had a love-hate relationship. I’m the type of person who will wake up at the very last minute possibly with just enough time to brush my teeth and wash my face, and quickly glance into the mirror to make sure I don’t look too disheveled.

However, since going natural I had to start waking up a bit earlier to give myself enough time for natural hair mishaps that inevitably will happen. There was a time where my hair actually used to make me late for work, so I knew I had to change some things.

Now, 2 years into my natural journey, and here are some hair hacks that have helped me tackle my hair in the mornings while still getting out the door with time to spare!

1. Night Prep

Your nightly routine is key! I never go to sleep at night without knowing what I’m going to be doing to my hair the next morning. That typically means making sure my twists are completely dry before I lay down to sleep because damp twists turn into frizzy twist outs.

2. Twist and Go

During the work week, I like to rock my hair in two strand twists and leave them twisted until the weekend. For example, if you did go to sleep with wet hair and wake up with still damp hair, then leave the twists in and go.

3. Top Bun

A top bun is a quick style that takes less than 5 minutes. All you have to do is slick your hair down with your favorite gel, and place your hair in a messy or neat bun.

4. Band and Puff

If your hair isn’t long enough for a top bun, then you can use a jumbo hair tie and make a puff by simply wrapping the tie around your hair to create a cute puff.

5. Wigs*

Wigs* are great because all you need to do is place your hair in a stocking cap and you’re good to go. My favorite wig* is my straight lace front wig* because the parting makes it look very natural.
