How to Achieve Amazing Day 2 Volume on Day 1 Hair

The life of a natural is tough as it is. The unpredictable outcome of a style can leave you sweating at 7am on a workday praying to the gawds that your twist out came out without fail.

9 times out of 10, if you played by the rules, ensuring that you did everything correctly and allowed your style to dry properly your style will come out presentable. However, 10 times out of 9, if you have fine hair, your day 1 hair will not be very voluminous.

As a natural with fine hair, I find myself wishing daily that I had thicker hair, but instead of constantly complaining I look for ways to get around this frustration.

One of which is faking my way to day 2 hair on day 1. I mean who doesn’t love day 2 hair?! You hair has been allowed to stretch and has so much more volume with curl retention.

To do this, starting first thing in the morning, I style my hair the way I normally would any other day. Regular two strand twists throughout my hair. The reason you have to start in the morning is because you will need your hair to dry completely by nighttime so you can complete the next phase of the process.

During this dry time, you don’t have to stay cooped up in the house! Where your twists out or throw on a fashionable head scarf.

If you’re not opposed to heat, to speed up the drying process by sitting under a bonnet dryer with low to medium heat for a bit.

Once you have ensured that your hair is dried completely, before bed unravel the twists and style like you would on any other day before wearing your twist out.

The key is to imitate how your hair will be on day one. Once the style is complete, then put larger chunky twists in your hair and throw on a bonnet. This way you preserve the curls and work you just did while adding stretch the hair. The next day you will wake up and undo the twist and have the results of day 2 hair!
