I’m Pretty Sure My Coworker Called My Hair Bushy

woman at workHair is a topic that comes up pretty frequently in the workplace. The joys of working with other naturals who I can learn from and exchange tips with is rewarding and makes the day go by faster.

One day a friend had dropped off her unused CurlBox items at my desk and some were specifically for frizz.

I was talking with one of my other coworkers Ann, who sits in my area and is African American but does not wear her natural hair, about the hair products and how I’m trying to combat my frizz.

I was having a little vent session about how the humidity is taking a toll on my hair and causing unmanageable frizziness but I’m trying to let it work in my favor. I also expressed how excited I was to try the new products.

The next day another coworker came up and complimented me on my curls. She said she wished should would have the patience to grow out her short pixie and wear her natural hair. I thanked her and carried on with my work. Ann quickly butted in “But didn’t you say you don’t like your hair and that it’s ‘bushy’?” I gave her a quizzical look because the only conversation I had with her about it was the day prior and it was solely about frizz nothing more.

I corrected her and set the record straight on what I said but I was still rubbed the wrong way. Is that what she truly thinks of my hair? Does she consider it bushy?

Since going natural I’ve definitely developed some tough skin where I’ve learned to brush off other people’s opinions, but I can’t help but to feel bothered by her indirectly called my hair bushy!

Have you ever dealt with a similar situation in the workplace? How did you handle it?
