My Top 5 Heat Protectants To Use When I Want To Go From Curly To Straight

hEAT PROTECTANTSI love my curls, but from time to time I may switch things up and flat iron* my hair straight. With that said whenever I decide to go from curly to straight for a change in look, I never do it without first applying a heat protectant* to my hair before blow drying, so it can be absorbed into the hair, and then again before flat ironing.

It’s such a small step that it’s easy to take it for granted or to forget, but it is a very important step. I like trying new products, and I’ve tried a ton of different heat protectants, and here are my favorites thus far:

1. Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray

Tresseme

This product is very affordable for all it does: enhances the hair’s flexibility, generates shine and softness, provides long-lasting hold, and prevents frizz while protecting the hair from heat and humidity. You can also find it at your local Target or Walmart.

2. John Frieda Frizz Collection Frizz Ease Heat Defeat Protective Styling Spray

frizz ease

This spray helps prevent flyaways and frizz and will keep your strands from going limp, even on hot and humid days. This one is a bit on the higher end side, but totally worth the extra bucks.

3. OGX Brazilian Keratin Therapy Flat Iron Spray

brazilian keratin

I love OGX’s shampoos and conditioners, so I knew I just had to try their heat protector, and I was very impressed! This flat iron* spray is perfect for the hair because it has keratin, a necessary protein for the hair that helps strengthen it in preparation for applying heat.

4. Giovanni Hair Care 2 Chic Flat Iron Styling Mist

Giovanni

This product both strengthens the hair and seals in moisture with argan oil*, an oil that makes the hair shiny, brilliant, and easier to manage.

5. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner

its a 10

I love this product because it does far more than just protect your hair from heat. It also conditions, detangles, adds shine, tames frizz, seals in moisture, helps prevent split ends, and gives your natural hair silkiness and body.

Whichever heat protectant* you use remember that you should still be using your flat iron* on a moderate to medium heat setting, so you don’t burn your stands! What are some of your favorite heat protectants? Comment below and let me know!
