As you go about your hair journey there are bound to be times that you think back to your childhood hair care practices.

You might think about what your mom or grandmother did to maintain your hair on a weekly basis and do some comparisons to what you are doing now.

For me, the fondest memory I have is a ritual that I hated as a child but appreciate now every time I think about it.

The home that I was raised in had a ton of plants all around it, we could practically pick our breakfast off of a variety of trees and be fully satisfied.

I remember that my mom had some aloe vera plants in the front of our yard and every other Saturday morning she would pick a couple of them, cut them open and scrape the gel out for my weekly deep conditioning* sessions.

I hated it! The smell, the way the gel felt, not to mention it made wash day much longer than I would have liked. I mean it was Saturday and a girl had things to do! (Really I just did not like wash day).

Fast forward to today, I would love to have the aloe plant growing in my front yard because I fully understand the benefits of it for my hair then and how beneficial it is for my hair now.

I even love the way the gel smells and feels because I know how much healthier it makes my hair overall which is why I owe my mom a ton of thanks for putting up with my complaints on wash day.

In this post, I wanted to give you 8 ways you can incorporate aloe vera gel* in your own regimen so that you can have the best hair ever. Let’s go!

1. Aloe Vera Hair Conditioner

Aloe Vera gel* can be used to naturally condition your hair at home using just the gel. All you have to do is cut the plant in half length wise, scrape out the gel and spoon it into a bowl. You can add your favorite oil to the gel and apply it to your hair root to tip.

Cover with a plastic cap and use a warm towel or heat cap to keep the mix warm and your cuticles raised as you condition. This is the ultimate moisture treatment and your hair will thank you afterward.

2. Aloe morning spritz

This is probably one of my favorite ways to use aloe gel and it is also super easy to make. Again scrape the gel out of the plant, add it to a blender* with a few table-spoons of enough water to make a liquid spray, add some essential oils* or regular oils* for smell and intensity. Blend everything together and put it in your spray bottle to use as a curl refresher spray every morning. Keep your mix in the fridge!

Eggwhite3. Aloe and olive oil deep conditioner*

Mix together equal parts of aloe vera gel and olive oil and simply apply the mix to your hair for a wonderful deep conditioner*.

Olive oil is great for the scalp it adds a natural shine to your strands and it is one of the only oils that penetrates the hair strand making it a staple for many of us.

4. Aloe vera and eggs deep conditioner

If you find that you hair needs a little strength but you want some moisture too, follow the same process of scraping the gel out of the plant but this time, mix one egg with the gel (yolk and all). Mix well to ensure that both ingredients are combined then cover each strand root to tip with your mask.

The egg will strengthen the strands and the aloe vera will moisturize them at the same time. It gets no better than that.

5. Aloe and lemon juice cleanser

Need a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your hair of its moisture? Mix a few drops of lemon juice with aloe vera gel* and apply it to your hair. Spread the mix all over your scalp and gently rub your scalp to get rid of build up and debris. Rinse your hair with warm water and then condition as normal.

6. Add aloe vera to your shampoo

If you want to amp up your shampoo and decrease the effects of it stripping your hair, mix your shampoo with the gel and wash your hair as normal.

7. Aloe Vera for hair loss

The aloe vera plant has a ton of nutrients including antioxidants that are great for stimulating hair growth and reducing fungus on the scalp.

To treat your scalp all you need is the gel, but we always recommend adding a few drops of essential oils* like peppermint oil* as well as some rose water. Stir the mix very well and apply it to your scalp as a serum treatment for at least 1 hour. Wash the mix out of your hair once the hour is up and condition as normal.

8. Styling gel

Aloe vera gel* has great hold, gives your hair a natural shine, and keeps your strands very healthy. Typically you can buy the styling gel in any grocery store but you can also make it yourself by scraping the gel out of the plant and adding essential oils* to create your own custom smell.

This gel is amazing and if you have the chance to get your hands on this phenomenal plant you have at least 8 ways to make use of it! Do you use aloe vera in your regimen? Tell us how, below.
