Social Experiment: Men Try Random Hairstyles On Black Women

We all know that some stylists do not get the respect that they should get for the work they do. As a matter of fact there was a point in my own journey when a swore off stylists because of a bad experience.

Since then I have developed a new found respect for the stylist and their hustle. There are men and women out there who consider themselves artists as well as hair healers and who invest a lot of time and effort into their craft.

This brings us to Mayvenn! Mayvenn is a “top-notch hair and beauty channel that offers the latest trends, tutorials and celebrity stylist interviews for our viewing pleasure. Recently they did a video that was sort of a funny social experiment where men were put to the test with some of our basic hair practices as it relates to black women.

Each guy had to spin a wheel that had 4 basic tasks, whereever the wheel stopped would be the task that the guy in question would have to perform. For instance, one man had to style some edges, another had to style a wig*, another had to create a funky style and finally cornrows which was probably the most difficult of the styles.

Each guy had varying levels of confidence but the fact was none had ever ‘done’ a black woman’s hair before. Some admitted to not even touching black hair which meant that this experience ought to be a good one.

Check out the hilarious video, below.

At the end of the day it was a funny and fun experiment for all involved but there was a deeper lesson of appreciation for ‘black hair styles’ and for the stylist.

How much appreciation do the men in your life have for your hair practices? Could they benefit from this little experiment? Comment below!
