3 Tips To Complete A Last Minute Dry Twist Out

Life happens. Your hair included. Just this past Saturday I heading to an 8am vinyasa yoga class and ended up completely sweating out my hair. I had a date later that afternoon and was actually looking forward wearing my bomb day 4 twist out that day.

Instead of worrying about my now puffy frizzy shrunken fro, I decided to combat it and complete a dry twist out. You can do the same to give your hair a bit of a freshening up. Here are 3 easy tips to follow:

1. Steam

Moisture is your best friend when it comes to your natural hair. If gives your hair that luster and helps it become more manageable. If your hair is a little wet from sweating, like in my situation, use this to your advantage. However, if you are just in the need to quickly freshen up an old twist out to redefine your coils steamed water is your best bet.

The Huetiful steamer or the Q-redew is a great option for this if you have one. It gently adds steam in to moisturize your hair for easier styling and better style outcome. Another more frugal option is to simply hop in the shower and allow the steam to penetrate your strands.

Be careful to not “wet” your hair as this is a quick dry twist out routine and if your hair is wet you will have to wait until it dries completely or you’ll be in a worst state then what you started with.

2. Cream Styler

Next, you will want to grab a nice cream styler. One of my favorites is Curls Blueberry Bliss Twist-n-Shout cream. This is a great product for defining your curls without the need to combine it with anything else such as a gel.

3. Set Time

Last, of course, you will want to set your hair. This is why if I’m performing this simple routine prior to a date I’ll do this first before getting everything else together. During the set time, I’ll do my make up and get dressed etc. Maximize your time until the last minute to get the best results.

All you are left to do is gently unravel your twists, fluff your roots with a pick for volume, and position each curl to your liking.

It’s possible to come back from a messed up hairstyle, it just takes a little patience and manipulation!
